Youtube daily report Aug 3 2018

hey, welcome to 12tone! despite plenty of inner turmoil, it's hard to deny the success

of The Police: starting with their second album, Regatta De Blanc, they managed an incredibly

impressive streak of five consecutive #1 albums on the UK charts, with many of their hits

crossing the pond to the US as well.

they've also had a lot of #1 singles, including Walking On The Moon, Every Breath You Take,

and Don't Stand So Close To Me, and looking through the list I'm noticing a weirdly strong

connection between how well the song did and how long its name was, but setting that aside,

today I want to look at their very first #1 hit, Message In A Bottle.

it starts like this: (bang) and the first thing I want to highlight is the chord shapes,

because they're a little unusual.

if they were normal triads, it'd sound something like this (bang) with a root, a fifth, and

then a really high third, but instead they've taken these top notes and lowered them all,

hiding the chords' qualities and giving the whole thing a bit of an unsettled sound.

it's a great use of a technique called quintal harmony, where chords are built from stacks

of 5ths instead of the usual stacks of 3rds. still, though, they behave pretty much like

normal chords here, so for the rest of the video I'm just gonna pretend the progression

is this: (bang)

this confused me for a while, because when I listen to the song, none of these sound

like the I chord, and I think that's because none of them are.

here, check out the second phrase of the melody: (bang) do you hear how that D# at the end

is pulling up with all of its might?

that's because it's what's called a leading tone, and it wants to resolve to the root

of the key, E. the rest of the melody reinforces that: it's basically just walking back and

forth between the root and the 3rd, two of the strongest notes in that key.

so then what's going on with the chords?

well, I think it's a variation of this classic progression, (bang) often called the Doo-Wop

Changes. this is, like, the definitive example of functional harmony, which as we've mentioned

before is the idea that different chords in a key have different functions, or jobs to

do.

these first two chords have tonic function, which means they provide a sense of rest.

they're like home base.

then we go to this chord, which has subdominant function, meaning it adds some instability

and takes you away from home, then this chord has dominant function, which means it points

you back.

this predictable cycle of tension and release has been used for centuries, but it was especially

common in the pop music of the 50s and 60s.

the Police do it a little differently, though: they start here (bang) and when we're on the

dominant chord, expecting a resolution back to I, they go to F# minor instead, which has

subdominant function again.

this subverts your expectation, adding dissonance when you were expecting a chance to rest,

and then it jumps to the C# minor and starts over without ever actually playing the E.

I think there's something really poignant about the fact that, in this song about a

castaway, even the chords can't seem to find their way home.

from there, we move into the first half of the prechorus: (bang) and it seems like we've

changed keys.

we're in A major now, and the progression couldn't be simpler: we've got tonic, subdominant,

and dominant, all in order.

we've even got a I chord this time, but there's still something sneaky going on here: we've

also got an E chord. it's the home chord we were looking for earlier, and it even shows

up right as the vocals sing "to the world", but it's not actually the I chord anymore.

it's kinda like a mirage: it's the home we were trying to find, but when we get there,

it's not really home at all.

we've also switched from the complex sound of quintal harmony to just straight-up power

chords, which are chords with just two notes: a root and a 5th. ok, I guess technically

that's still quintal, but it's also a very common rock sound, as basically the simplest

form of harmony.

what exactly it symbolizes here is up for debate, but I like to look at it as representing

the more optimistic, idealistic message of this part of the song.

it's a single-minded determination to reach out and send that SOS, and the harmony simplifies

itself to match.

next we get this (bang) and the melody's sitting on A the whole time so it's safe to say we're

still in that key, but again, we've lost the I chord.

instead we have the VImi and the IV, which is like the beginning of the verse progression,

but in the prechorus's key.

this is the "I hope that someone gets my" bit, and moving away from the root again helps

emphasize that desperation: even the fake home we constructed in the first half of the

prechorus is fading away.

finally, we get to the chorus (bang) which is a bit ambiguous.

we could probably still analyze this in the key of A, but when I listen to the song, the

note in the melody that feels most like the root is this E here, so I think we've switched

back to the verse key. in fact, these are the first two chords of the verse progression,

just sustained for longer and decorated a bit differently.

this A chord is especially interesting: it incorporates an F#, making it what's called

a major 6 chord, a fairly common substitute for a standard major triad in jazz.

it just adds a little extra color, but again, I think this song uses chord complexity to

represent despair, so seeing such a rich sound doesn't bode well for the fate of that bottle.

the bass also does something interesting: it starts on A to match the chord, then halfway

through the bar it walks down to G#. this kind of implies a weak resolution back to

the I chord (bang) and the melody follows along, but the guitar doesn't.

technically it's still sustaining that A chord from before, but that's quieted down enough

that I wouldn't necessarily analyze the two together, so I think this is best viewed as

sort of a ghost chord: there's kind of an E major here, but also kind of not.

draw whatever metaphor you want from that.

anyway, at the end of the chorus we get this (bang) where that G# walks down to an F#,

and this chord should be familiar as the final chord of the verse progression which, again,

interrupts our journey back to the I chord.

it hangs on that for a bit to get us good and lost again, then we go back into the verse.

but before we wrap up, there's one last thing I want to address: melodic range.

in most songs, the vocalist sings the verses fairly low, then they jump up high for the

chorus, but here it's backwards.

the verses are high, bombastic affairs, while the choruses settle down into the lower part

of Sting's range.

and the dynamics of the whole piece follow suit: The verses have this driving, syncopated

rhythm, while in the choruses the main guitar part is just playing whole notes.

so why?

well, again, there's a couple metaphors we could draw, but my favorite is that the verses

take place on the island, where the narrator's actively doing stuff, but the choruses take

place on the open ocean, and there's nothing to do there but wait for that bottle to be

found.

there's a certain helplessness to that, and dropping the intensity of the vocals captures

that feeling pretty well.

and that's pretty much it.

we run through those sections a couple times, then end by looping the verse progression

until it fades out without ever making it home.

it's a fascinating piece of harmonic storytelling, using fairly limited tools to sculpt a narrative

you can easily follow without even listening to the words.

in the end, it's just trying to get home, and who can't relate to that?

anyway, thanks for watching, and thanks to Patreon patron Hector Bonte for suggesting

Leo ran away - Duration: 5:53.

I have decided to run away. This freedom tastes so sweet

wait what the fuck are you doing here Ken!?

K: I saw you going outside and I wanted to get some air as well

L: that's not why I went out

K: then why did you go out

L: (internally) if I tell him he'll probably tell N just to be annoying

I'm taking a walk

K: me too, let's walk together :)

L: go away

N: Leo hasn't returned from is coffee run and it's been 30 minutes already.

He's run away.

H: Why did you even believe he was getting coffee at 4 in the morning?

N: You know that addict drinks 11 cups a day, how would i have known he lied to me

H: The fact that you know it means he's run away speaks volumes of your relationship. (ouch)

And why am I here?

N: To help me find him of course

H: I never signed up for this

N: and I never signed up to be your babysitter, so suck it up

and wear your scarf properly

H: I can't believe N hyung is making us search for Leo hyung at 4 in the morning

H: I don't get paid enough for this shit

R: but you don't get paid for this shit

H: oh right...

Should we run away?

R: yeah good idea

Let's take a taxi to the airport

H: I heard Spain is lovely around this time of year

R: do you have money for the tickets?

H: I told you I don't get paid enough for this shit.

R: Let's get N-hyung to wire some then.

H: Make up a good lie.

R: don't worry I got this.

K: Stop running Leo Hyung!

L: when I said go away I meant it!

K: I wanna walk with you not run!

L: Piss off

K: Did you just buy 6 cups of coffee?

You already drank one!

L: I'm gonna need a lot of caffeine if I'm gonna be dealing with you

K: How rude >:(

N: Excuse me but have you seen a man a little taller than me,

brown hair,

cat like eyes,

the cutest pouty lips,

and the cutest frown on his face,

a 10 out of 10 would bang,

should be on the cover People magazine voted as the sexiest man alive

HB: she left

N: I didn't even get to tell her what he was wearing

HB: I don't think she wants to know.

This isn't the place

to place a missing person announcement about your non-related giant kid.

N: he's not my kid

and anyway I can sense where Leo is without their help

HB: Sense?

How so?

With your dick? :)

N: I swear on my fucking non-existent patience Lee fucking Hongbin

if you don't cut your sass I'll cut your fucking balls of--

HB: oh look Hyuk is calling

what up?

H: oh hey, is N Hyung there?

N: Did you find Leo?

R: We have a lead that says he's heading for the airport

N: What!? Why? Where's he flying to???

R: Spain

So we're gonna need you to wire some money so we can buy tickets to go after him

N: In your fucking dreams

R: He hung up on us.

H: I told you to tell a good lie

R: I didn't even get to the lie!

N: Let's go

HB: Where to?

N: The airport of course

HB: But Ravi obviously lied

N: Yeah but we have no other lead so let's just go.

K: Aren't we going to far from the dorm?

L: I'm taking a walk

K: we are on the train...

L: Well geez Ken I can't walk everywhere now can I?

K: Where are we going anyway?

L: Towards freedom

K: Say what now?

L: You heard me

K: Is that a place?

Let me look it up

Most of the results point towards the USA.

Are we going there on foot?

L: Of course not.

You can't cross the ocean by walking.

Oh right of course ...

Hey why is this train headed towards the airport?

K: Leo Hyung?

N: That fuck (Leo) decided to run away too damn early,

I haven't even had my morning coffee yet

When I find him I'm pulling him back by the whiskers

HB: You know he's not a cat and doesn't have whiskers.

Unless you mean his pubic hair (lol)

N: It's too fucking early for this you unwanted sperm

HB: harsh

N: Don't test me

R: Well we're on the train to the airport anyway, can't turn back now

H: Do you think I can charm the employees in to giving us free tickets?

R: Perhaps if you had any charm

H: Fuck you I'm well charming

R: Yeah and Santa Claus exists

H: Yeah I know

R: Hyuk we've been over this Santa Claus doesn't exist

H: Lalalalala I won't hear any more of this blasphemy

L: We need to hurry and get that ticket,

my 6th sense is telling me we're being followed

K: You mean your Hakyeon senses

K: You mean your Hakyeon senses

N: He's close by, I can sense him

HB: haha with your dick :P

N: CAN YOU F*CKING NOB HEAD STOP FOR JUST ONE SEC—

H: Hey look!

(HB and N)

R: No wonder my Hongbin senses were tingling

H: You have those?

R: Of course,

it's called GPS

H: You know that's illegal

R: The less he knows the better

H: (internally) and more ammo for my Ravi/Hongbin inventory

L: A one-way ticket to 'freedom' please

K: Hey look it's N hyung!

L: Oh fuck

N: Leo for fuck sake why did you run away. And Ken why are you here?

Ken why are you here?

K: Wait he ran away?

When?

L: I was just taking a walk

N: To the airport?

L: Yeah.

Don't you sometimes do that?

N: Real funny,

we're leaving

H: hey look they found him

R: N-hyung will you pay for our tickets to Spain now?

N: Could you tone down that gold digger personality for a minute

H: Can we go to the North Pole instead?

I wanna meet Santa Claus

N: Hyuk for the 100th time he doesn't exist—

H: Lalalalala shut up dream crusher!!

HB: You found your giant kid,

can we leave now?

N: Yeah we're leaving now,

so no more running away Leo

L: ..........

L: … You can't stop me *runs away*

N: OH FOR FUCKS SAKE LEO I'M GONNA CUT YOUR FUCKING BALLS--

wtf was that even...

How to Live for Christ in These Last Days | Part 2 | Bayless Conley - Duration: 28:31.

Today on Answers with Bayless Conley:

Before His second coming to earth, yes, there's certain things that will need to unfold.

But nothing else need happen before the rapture.

That could happen at any moment, my friend.

There are many questions you are faced with every day.

We are all searching for answers that will make a real difference in our lives.

It's hard to imagine that these answers might be right in front of us.

Get ready to discover answers in the Bible with Bayless Conley.

Hello friend, glad to have you with us.

You know, not too long ago I spent a weekend talking to the church about certain end time

events.

Things that were prophesied that were going to happen.

Some of them that were hidden that God did not reveal until the church came in these

end times.

And we're going to get into a part of this right now that… well, it is going to happen.

I'm just telling you it will happen.

If you've got a Bible, grab it because this will not only impact you it's going to impact

the entire world.

Something the Scripture is very, very clear about.

So, we are going to get into the Word.

We are going to study some of these end-time events.

Get ready.

Here's Bayless Conley with part two of his continuing message from last week.

Friend the day is coming when there will be a shout and the sound of a trumpet.

And those that have already died, that have laid their bodies down in the earth, they'll

be reunited with their bodies, but it won't be the same body, friend, it will be a resurrected

body, a glorified body like unto His glorious body.

The moment after that we will be caught up together with them, to meet them and the Lord

in the air so we will ever be with the Lord.

Paul talks about it in 1 Corinthians 15, look at it there with me.

1 Corinthians 15, verse 50.

He's talking about our physical bodies being corruptible, being mortal.

Verse 50 says,

Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does

corruption inherit incorruption.

Behold, I tell you a mystery:

Everyone say, "A mystery."

All right.

Here is God's second secret.

I tell you a secret, a mystery.

We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed—in a moment, in the twinkling of

an eye, at the last trumpet.

For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then

shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: "Death is swallowed up in victory."

"O Death, where is your sting?

O Hades, where is your victory?"

My friend, the first secret was the church.

The age of grace, this season where humanity has to repent and receive mercy from God.

But the second secret and it can come at any moment, is the catching away of His church,

in the moment, in the twinkling of an eye, those that have died in Christ will get a

new body back.

And the rest of us, if we're here when that happens, we'll be changed in a moment, because

corruption, mortality can't inherit the kingdom of God, so we will get immortal bodies, like

unto His glorious body.

I love Jesus' resurrected body.

He can eat honeycomb and fish and then walk through a wall.

Man, I want one of those.

Who knows, maybe we'll be able to travel at the speed of thought.

It's going to be an amazing thing and it will happen, my friend, the shout, the sound of

the trumpet in a moment God's church, His bride, be caught up together with the Lord

in the clouds.

But then there's the second great prophetic event.

The first one was the first coming of Christ.

The second great event is the second coming of Christ to earth.

The first time He came, He came as the Savior to extend mercy.

The second time He comes, He will come as a Judge, executing wrath.

The first time He came, it was to stand in our place and take the penalty for our sin

and provide salvation.

The second time He comes is to set up His earthly kingdom and to destroy sin for all

time.

And friend, the second coming of Christ to the earth should not be confused with the

rapture.

The rapture is the return of Christ to remove all believers from the earth before the time

of God's wrath and we meet Him in the clouds.

The second coming is the return of Christ to the earth with His saints to put an end

to the great tribulation period, to defeat the antichrist and his evil world empire.

The rapture is secret and instant.

But at the second coming, every eye will see Him.

Jesus spoke of it in Matthew 24, in verse 30.

Where He said,

Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the

earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with

power and great glory.

Revelation 1:7,

Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him.

And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him.

Even so, Amen.

As I mentioned, the rapture is His coming for His saints.

The second coming is when He comes with His saints.

Look with me in Revelation, the 19th chapter if you would.

We're going to read something and before we read it, it's important to know that throughout

the book of Revelation, even previous to where we're going to begin reading in chapter 19,

the picture of believers in heaven that have been there for some time, that have been washed

in the blood of the Lamb, they're wearing garments that are washed white and pure.

It's a symbol of what the blood of Christ has done for us.

Several times throughout the book of Revelation, believers that are already in heaven are wearing

these white garments.

We pick it up in Revelation 19, verse 11.

Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse.

And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and

makes war.

Alright, He's not coming to extend mercy and grace.

He's coming to judge and to make war.

Verse 12,

His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns.

He had a name written that no one knew except Himself.

He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.

And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white

horses.

Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations.

And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron.

He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written:

KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

Friend, when Jesus comes back, it'll be to put down His enemies and those that have continued

in wickedness and continued in rejection of God.

And He will set up an earthly kingdom.

But it's completely different than His first coming.

You know in Acts chapter 1, when the disciples were gathered with Jesus on the Mount of Olives,

suddenly, a cloud appeared and Jesus ascended into heaven on this cloud and they're standing

there looking at Him go up.

And an angel appears and says, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing upward?

This same Jesus is going to come back just as you saw Him go.

His feet lifted off the Mount of Olives in a cloud.

And He's going to come back the same way.

And you know Zachariah chapter 14 prophesy's about it.

Says that He will come and stand on the Mount of Olives and it will split in two and His

saints will be with Him.

And He's there to execute judgment.

Judges verses 14, or Jude verses 14 and 15, the Lord comes with 10 thousands of His saints

to execute judgment.

Now, there's certainly certain prophetic events that need to come to pass before the second

coming of Christ occurs.

There's things that need to unfold.

The rise of antichrist, the seizing of the power of the nations and the nations being

deceived.

And Jesus spoke in detail about many of these signs that would immediately proceed His second

coming in Matthew 24, and in Luke chapter 21, He spoke of wars.

He said there'd be wars and rumors of wars.

Nations deceived and the nations gripped with uncertainty, great public upheaval, great

natural disasters, earthquakes in different places, famines, diseases, great persecution

against believers and a great apostasy, a great falling away from the faith.

But He said also this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world to all nations

as a witness and then the end shall come.

This gospel will be preached in all the world to all the nations.

The word nations is ethnos, literally means every ethnic group, Jesus said every ethnic

group will have a witness of the gospel before the end comes.

My friend, I don't know if you know it or not, but you are living in the only generation

that has ever existed that that will be a possibility.

And I know some will say, "Well yeah, but I think there's other things that need to

happen first."

I agree with you.

Before His second coming to earth, yes, there's certain things that will need to unfold.

But nothing else need happen before the rapture.

That could happen at any moment, my friend.

Before I am finished preaching this message, there could be a shout and the sound of a

trumpet and in a moment we're changed and caught up together with Him in the clouds

to ever be with the Lord.

There's nothing left to be fulfilled for that to happen.

Here's the question, knowing these things, how should we be living?

I think we need to live soberly, prayerfully.

I think it's important that we live generously toward the kingdom.

Because you're not taking anything with you, friend, none of it.

I think we need to live filled with comfort and filled with hope.

And I think we need to be doing all we can to reach people for Christ.

While the opportunity is here, while the door of grace and mercy is still open.

You know in the days of Noah, as long as that door to the ark was open, there was still

hope.

But once God closed the door, hope was gone.

Jesus Christ is our ark of safety, my friend.

And right now the door is open.

But it will not always be open.

I've shared this before, but it's many, many years ago, more than 30 years ago.

My wife and I were at a local tailor shop.

I was getting a coat altered.

And this tailor was one of these guys, sort of bigger than life, he was a really large

man.

And he was just throwing out a string of cuss words, really loud, in his shop there, very

inappropriate.

I'm with my wife.

And on top of just cussing up a blue streak, he's smoking a big cigar.

So my coat and everybody else's garments that are getting tailored, they're going to take

them home and they're going to smell like cigar smoke and he doesn't care.

So he's cussing and smoking a cigar.

And I'm there filling out the little paper that I'm going to come back and get it in

four days or five days or whatever, and the Holy Spirit spoke to me.

Said, "Talk to this man about his soul."

And I didn't do it.

And my wife and I went out of the shop.

And I opened the car door.

She's getting in.

The Holy Spirit spoke to me a second time, says, "Go back in and talk to him about his

soul."

And honestly, the man intimidated me.

And I didn't do it.

Got in the car.

As soon as I got behind the driver's seat, that burden to do it just sort of lifted and

I didn't think about it anymore, it was gone, until the next day.

I was talking to a friend on the phone.

They said, "Hey, did you hear what happened to the tailor this morning?"

I said, "What do you mean?"

He says, "The tailor."

I said, "Well, I know him.

What happened?"

He said, "He walked into his tailor shop this morning, soon as he walked over the threshold,

he fell dead of a heart attack."

I said, "You're kidding."

He said, "No."

I hung up, and I remember I went and knelt down and realized I had that man's blood on

my hands.

God said in the book of Ezekiel, if don't warn the wicked to turn from his wicked ways,

I'll require his blood at your hand if he perishes.

And I got down and said, "God, I'm so sorry."

Now, thank God for other blood, the blood of Jesus Christ that cleanses us from all

sin.

I repented and said, "Lord, wash me clean.

I am sorry.

Forgive me for my disobedience.

Forgive me for yielding to fear."

And I made a promise to God.

I said, "If I ever have the slightest impression to speak to someone again, or if you ever

talk to me about doing it, I will obey You."

And as far as I know, from that day to this day, I've kept that promise.

And I share this story for this reason, you don't always have as long as you think you

do.

You don't have forever to respond.

And you know an interesting thing happens when we know the truth and we say, "Yeah,

yeah, I know.

Not yet.

Not yet."

Our heart begins to get calloused.

And it becomes easier to say no the next time and easier to put it off the next time.

And it becomes more calloused and more hardened toward the voice of God.

And the fact is, we don't all have as long as we think we do to share with people.

Some of you, it's been on your heart to write somebody a letter.

Do it.

Maybe a cousin, maybe somebody you know in jail, maybe somebody else.

And share your testimony with them.

Do it.

To talk to that neighbor over the fence.

You've had the thought several times.

Well, I wonder if that was God.

Listen, the devil will never tell you to share Christ with someone.

Do it.

Seize the opportunity while you have it because we do not have forever to share the good news

of Christ.

And right now, there is a working of God's grace in the world as we share the gospel,

the Holy Spirit will confirm and convict and convince people's hearts of the truth, but

friend, the Holy Spirit will not always be working in that way.

Right now, between those two events, during this time of mystery, this time of grace,

the opportunity exists, but it won't always be there.

Now, in a moment, I want to invite you to pray with me.

You may have come in here with a friend, maybe come by yourself, but I don't think it's a

coincidence that you're here or that you're listening to me right now.

Now, if I could talk you into accepting Christ, somebody else could talk you out of it later

on.

But if you respond to a revelation, that if you somehow sense God has been speaking the

secret language of your heart, and you know His fingerprints are on your life.

You know He's been drawing you to Himself with cords of love.

If you'll respond to that revelation, no one can ever take that away from you, friend.

It's more than you just making a mental decision to do something.

It's you opening your heart to the Savior and being changed internally.

Because the truth is, like me, there's more to you than meets the eye.

You are an eternal being that will spend eternity somewhere.

And it's that person on the inside I'm talking to you right now.

It's that person on the inside that the Holy Spirit will wash free from the taint of sin

and make you into what the Bible calls a new creation.

Now if it helps you right now, just close your eyes for a moment, only if you want to

though.

Sometimes it helps to block out distractions.

And I just want to ask you, if you have the sense that God, however, He's done it, has

been somehow communicating with you.

Maybe it was through this message.

Maybe through some other means.

God has a myriad of ways to speak to people.

And you want to say yes to His gift of salvation.

There's not a better time than right now.

If you're a backslider in the house, you once were on fire for God, but now your fire's

just about gone out, there's a few embers there and if you don't fan them into flame,

everything's likely to go cold.

I've got good news, prodigal son, got good news for you prodigal daughter, God's not

mad at you, but it's time to come home.

The Father's scouting the horizon waiting for you to begin to make that move.

When you do, He will run to meet you.

I'm just going to count to three.

If you want to get in on this prayer, pray it from your heart, talk to God for a moment.

I'm going to ask you to lift a hand when I get to the number three and the only reason

I'd ask you to lift a hand is I believe it can help your faith begin to move toward God.

Because the Bible says faith is always expressed through action.

Just think of it as a reflection of your heart reaching up to God, your hand just is mirroring

that.

I'll acknowledge the hands.

You can put them down.

And then, I'll lead you in a simple prayer together when we talk to God.

One, two, you want in on the prayer, three, just put your hand up.

God bless you.

Hands all over the auditorium.

Alright, just put your hands down.

Everybody in the house put a hand on your heart.

Tie your heart around these words.

They mean nothing without your heart behind them.

Just say it out loud:

Oh, God.

I come to You.

With all of my heart, I believe.

I believe that You sent your Son, Jesus Christ.

To die and pay the penalty for my sins.

Jesus, thank You for Your great love.

That You would sacrifice Yourself for me.

I believe the price has been paid.

I believe You've been raised from the dead.

And I accept You now as Lord and Savior.

I give You my life, Jesus.

Wash me clean.

Give me a fresh start.

From this moment forward.

Wherever You lead me.

I will go.

Amen.

Woman VO: Stay tuned at the end of the program today for a special inspirational thought

from Bayless.

Friend, let me tell you something that I know you don't know.

You might think, "Well, how do you know I don't know it.

You don't know me."

Well, I just know you don't know this.

You don't know how much God loves you.

I don't understand, I don't comprehend how much God loves me.

We maybe have a thimble full of understanding but, you know in truth the reality is bigger

than the Pacific and Atlantic oceans combined.

God's love for you is massive.

It is beyond description.

Now I hope you prayed that prayer with us to accept Christ into your life.

It's the most important thing that's ever happened to me.

It changed me radically.

It changed my trajectory.

It changed my eternal future.

It changed my eternal destination.

And it does the same for every person that truly embraces Him with an honest heart.

Jesus changes lives.

But once a person embraces Christ, believes in what He has done, believes He was raised

from the dead, what are the next steps that that person is to take?

It's very important.

Because embracing Jesus, that's not the finish line, that's just the starting gate.

So where do we go from there?

Well, I did a little bit of filming on our church campus and I talked about the next

steps that we need to take once we've embraced Christ.

I'd like to go to that little video segment right now.

I want to share with you some things that will help you because you didn't just hit

the finish line.

You sort of just hit the starting gate of a whole new life and here's some things that

you'll need to do.

If you want to be fruitful and really enjoy your relationship with God and grow in your

relationship with God.

Number one.

Talk to God every day, that's called prayer.

Don't use some high religious sounding voice when you talk to Him.

Just be yourself.

Be honest with God.

If you're afraid tell Him you're afraid.

If you have needs bring your needs before Him and ask Him to help you.

If you need wisdom, ask Him for wisdom.

If you're perplexed about something bring it before God and talk to Him about it.

If you're happy tell Him.

If you're mad at Him tell Him, He knows it anyway.

He loves an honest heart.

But then once you get through talking to Him you need to get quiet and listen in your heart

for Him talking to you.

Because what He says is more important than what you say and what I say.

That's the other side of prayer.

We talk to God, we listen for His answers.

And then second, get yourself a Bible.

They're not that hard to find.

At least in most places, they're not.

Get yourself a Bible and begin to read it every day.

That's food for your spirit.

It's a light on your pathway.

It will give you wisdom on what to do and God virtually speaks into every situation

of our life and gives us wise counsel and guidance.

And as well as when we read His Word as well as guiding us it literally does build us up

with strength.

You could say feed upon the Word of God.

The Scripture says, "Desire this sincere milk of the Word that you can grow thereby."

Third thing you need to do is become part of a believing community.

Find a church where people are not ashamed of Jesus.

Where they love Jesus, where they love the Word of God.

Find some community there.

Be a part of it.

Go regularly and listen to the Word of God preached or listen to it taught.

Get involved in a small group but just get involved with other believers.

We were never meant to live this life on our own.

And then finally, talk to somebody else about Jesus.

Tell someone else what's happened to you.

Use your own words, tell your story, you don't have to be eloquent, you don't have to be

polished.

Just be honest.

Tell someone about Jesus.

You'll be surprised, God will use you and I guarantee you there's someone in your world

right now, in your family, in your workplace, at school, in your neighborhood, someone that

desperately needs to hear about Jesus Christ.

They need to hear your story.

And God will use it.

Even if you seem to stumble over every other word, I'm telling you, God will use what you

say to someone else about Jesus Christ.

And if you'll do those four things, talk to God every day, get into His Word, join a community

of believers and then tell somebody else about Jesus you're going to be okay.

Thank you for having taken the time to sit with me right here.

Actually, I would love to look at you face to face, enjoy a cup of tea together, I'm

a tea guy, not a coffee guy and just talk.

I'd love to hear your story but you know in your own world God's going to provide what

you need.

He's going to provide who you need.

I want to tell you God loves you more than you have the capacity to understand it.

He loves you fiercely, He loves you unashamedly, He loves you eternally.

And for what it's worth, I love you too.

God bless you.

Hi there.

I've written a little booklet about the cross.

Something I believe can benefit every believer.

PA Severance Tax - Duration: 4:28.

In Pennsylvania, unconventional natural gas is a huge part of

the state's economy, so of course, it's also highly political.

Some Harrisburg politicians, including the governor, are claiming shale

gas producers are not paying their fair share of taxes and that

Pennsylvania is the only state that doesn't have a severance tax.

Is that true? Or do some Pinocchios need to be handed out?

Let's begin with the severance tax, which is a tax on oil and

natural gas production. It is true that Pennsylvania is the only

major producing state that doesn't have a severance tax.

But making that claim is highly misleading because

Pennsylvania is also the only state that imposes an "Impact Fee."

And that impact has been big!

$1.4 Billion has been generated since 2011.

Funds have been spent on such things as public infrastructure like

storm and sewer systems, social services, information technology,

public safety and environmental programs.

Harrisburg politicians complaining about the state not having a

severance tax on unconventional shale gas production, when they are

fully aware there is an Impact Fee are trying to deliberately deceive

the public. For that, we give them 3 out of 5 Pinocchio's.

Now lets consider the charge that the shale gas industry is not

paying its fair share in taxes. The best way to do that would be to

compare Pennsylvania to other states, but that's not so easy to do

because no state applies their taxes and tax breaks in the same way.

Pennsylvania's Independent Fiscal Office calculates an effective tax rate

for the Impact Fee, at an average of 3.6% since the fee was created.

That's quite a bit less than Texas, for example, which has a

7.5% severance tax. But that tax rate comes down significantly in

real terms because of discounts for unconventional wells over a

decade and another steep discount for drilling costs.

And if you're comparing Pennsylvania to Texas, you need to mention that PA has

the second-highest corporate income tax rate in the country at a whopping 10%!

And Texas doesn't even have a corporate income tax.

Nor does Ohio, Pennsylvania's regional competitor.

Louisiana is another big natural gas producer. In 2017, the Pelican State

charged a severance tax of just under 10 cents per MCF, but Louisiana

doesn't tax horizontal wells for 2 years or until the well has paid

for itself. That's not confusing, is it?

West Virginia has one of the highest severance taxes in the

country at 5%. But maybe that punitive tax explains why

Pennsylvania produces nearly three and a half times more natural gas

than West Virginia, even though the two states have similar geology.

This kind of apples to straw- berries to bananas comparison

is what exists across all producing states, so it's darn near impossible

to compare one state's taxes to another. However, there is one solid barometer

to consider, which is where investors are putting their money,

and that means where do you find the drilling rigs?

In recent years Texas has claimed the largest number of rigs by far.

Pennsylvania, the nation's second largest shale gas producer,

hasn't attracted near the number of rigs as the industry leader.

Certainly low gas prices don't help, but neither does talk of adding a

severance tax on top of an Impact Fee on top of a sky-high

corporate income tax. Harrisburg politicians who are trying to claim

that Pennsylvania shale gas producers aren't paying their

fair share in taxes ought to take a look at where the drilling rigs

are working. Their Pinocchios, 4 out of 5,

could wind up sending more rigs to states like Texas and Oklahoma.

That's all for now, but more Pinocchios will be awarded to

Pennsylvania politicians in the months ahead.

For the Clear Energy Alliance, I'm Mark Mathis.

Power On.

Why Cody Wilson is Pushing for 3-D Printed Guns | NYT News - Duration: 1:52.

"I believe that I am championing

the Second Amendment in the 21st century."

This is the man who's trying to disrupt

the U.S. firearms industry

and test the limits of the First Amendment.

"I think access to the firearm is a fundamental human dignity.

It's a fundamental human right."

30-year-old Cody Wilson is a self-described

gun rights advocate and crypto-anarchist,

which means he believes in decentralization

of information.

He's also been labeled one of the

most dangerous people in the world.

"It's become kind of culturally edgy

in the gun world

to have your own ghost gun."

Wilson started Defense Distributed in 2012

and later used it to share the plans

for one of the first, functioning

3-D printed guns, a plastic pistol

he called "The Liberator."

Now he's trying to let anyone download blueprints

to make guns at home.

"Defense Distributed's goal isn't really personal armament —

it's more the liberation of information.

It's about living in a world where you just

download the file for the thing

you want to make in this life."

Wilson claims that it's his First Amendment right

to upload blueprints for firearms

ranging from handguns to AR-15 rifles.

But critics say his methods are a form of open-source terrorism.

Plastic firearms will be able to slip

through metal detectors.

Guns printed without serial numbers

will be difficult to trace.

And some fear the mass production of

unregulated firearms could fall into the wrong hands.

Defense Distributed first published its blueprints

online in 2013.

The Obama administration ordered the company

to pull its files.

But the designs had already been downloaded

more than 100,000 times.

Since then, Defense Distributed has been embroiled

in a multiyear legal battle.

Although the Trump administration

appeared to have cleared the way

for Wilson to publish his blueprints,

his multiyear legal battle is ongoing.

East County Eats Ep 59 - D Wings & Ribs in Santee - Duration: 2:42.

(upbeat music)

- Where can you get awesome

wings, ribs, wraps, pizzas, fries?

All that good stuff in Santee.

We're at D Wings & Ribs in Santee.

Let's check it out.

(upbeat music)

East County Eats is all about showing you

the coolest restaurants in and around East County.

I'm Kyle Whissel, with Whissel Realty,

and this is East County Eats.

Mario, how are you?

- I'm really good Kyle.

Good to have you here.

- Yeah, so tell us a little bit about the restaurant.

- Alright guys, so this restaurant

has been open for about six months,

and we're a group of friends that's been

in the restaurant business for about 10-15 years.

So we decided to open a wings and ribs restaurants

because we love wings and ribs.

- [Kyle] Who doesn't?

- Everybody in San Diego.

You know we have a lot of competition around town.

- Yeah.

- So what distinguish us from everyone else

is the way we prep our wings and our ribs.

The way we do our wings,

we oven bake them for 30 minutes,

we put a rub on them,

and then after that we finish them on the deep fry

to give them that crispy finish.

- I love it. Very cool.

Let's head back into the kitchen and check it out.

- Alright. Let's go.

(upbeat music)

At this moment we're at the kitchen.

We're gonna start making the fries.

We throw them on the fryer for about three minutes

until we get the golden crispy look.

Once they're ready, we'll bring them out.

We'll put them on the boxes.

We'll set them up, and then we get the pulled pork.

We throw it on top of the fries.

We put our sauces on it.

We put our chipotle dressing on it,

and then for the carnitas,

what we do,

instead of doing the barbecue we do

our famous cilantro dressing.

(upbeat music)

- Alright, so as always I'm eating the pork dishes.

Kyle doesn't eat pork.

So I get the honor of tasting this.

We have half is carnitas, half if pulled pork.

I'm really stoked to try this out.

I'm a big carne asada fry fan,

and this is the barbecue

kind of play on that.

(upbeat music)

The pork is really well done.

It's really juicy.

The fries are still crispy which is great.

Especially with all the sauce.

This is really good.

I'd definitely do it again.

We're here in Santee at D Wings & Ribs.

Check it out.

This is something I will definitely be ordering again.

Thanks so much for watching this weeks episode.

This is East County Eats.

Understanding Message In A Bottle - Duration: 6:32.

hey, welcome to 12tone! despite plenty of inner turmoil, it's hard to deny the success

of The Police: starting with their second album, Regatta De Blanc, they managed an incredibly

impressive streak of five consecutive #1 albums on the UK charts, with many of their hits

crossing the pond to the US as well.

they've also had a lot of #1 singles, including Walking On The Moon, Every Breath You Take,

and Don't Stand So Close To Me, and looking through the list I'm noticing a weirdly strong

connection between how well the song did and how long its name was, but setting that aside,

today I want to look at their very first #1 hit, Message In A Bottle.

it starts like this: (bang) and the first thing I want to highlight is the chord shapes,

because they're a little unusual.

if they were normal triads, it'd sound something like this (bang) with a root, a fifth, and

then a really high third, but instead they've taken these top notes and lowered them all,

hiding the chords' qualities and giving the whole thing a bit of an unsettled sound.

it's a great use of a technique called quintal harmony, where chords are built from stacks

of 5ths instead of the usual stacks of 3rds. still, though, they behave pretty much like

normal chords here, so for the rest of the video I'm just gonna pretend the progression

is this: (bang)

this confused me for a while, because when I listen to the song, none of these sound

like the I chord, and I think that's because none of them are.

here, check out the second phrase of the melody: (bang) do you hear how that D# at the end

is pulling up with all of its might?

that's because it's what's called a leading tone, and it wants to resolve to the root

of the key, E. the rest of the melody reinforces that: it's basically just walking back and

forth between the root and the 3rd, two of the strongest notes in that key.

so then what's going on with the chords?

well, I think it's a variation of this classic progression, (bang) often called the Doo-Wop

Changes. this is, like, the definitive example of functional harmony, which as we've mentioned

before is the idea that different chords in a key have different functions, or jobs to

do.

these first two chords have tonic function, which means they provide a sense of rest.

they're like home base.

then we go to this chord, which has subdominant function, meaning it adds some instability

and takes you away from home, then this chord has dominant function, which means it points

you back.

this predictable cycle of tension and release has been used for centuries, but it was especially

common in the pop music of the 50s and 60s.

the Police do it a little differently, though: they start here (bang) and when we're on the

dominant chord, expecting a resolution back to I, they go to F# minor instead, which has

subdominant function again.

this subverts your expectation, adding dissonance when you were expecting a chance to rest,

and then it jumps to the C# minor and starts over without ever actually playing the E.

Welcome, New Bucknell Parents! - Duration: 2:22.

It's hard to find a school like Bucknell

that's small enough to make everybody

feel welcome and big enough to feel

that there's something more even beyond

the people that you know.

The surroundings are beautiful. The town

and the way that the school integrates

into the small town of Lewisburg is

really wonderful.

Downtown Lewisburg just encompasses

Bucknell so well. It has that down home feel.

Very family oriented.

And I think, you know, a lot of it has to do

with getting to know people and getting to

connect with the Bucknell family around us.

Wearing my Bucknell hat around New York City

as an example probably started more

conversations than anything else

I've ever done.

I was a little concerned about how my

daughter would fit into the culture, but

she has made so many new friends.

She's on a first name basis with some of

her professors.

What made us welcome as Bucknell parents

is the fact that our son felt welcome instantly.

Fellow students helped us move in

or basically moved us in.

There's so many ways in which

Lauren and I have felt welcomed as part

of the Bucknell family.

The biggest, of course, is the parent weekend.

We organized a tailgate with the parents

of all of our son's hall friends

and that turned out to a really big event.

Meeting some of the students. Just meeting

so many great professors and

getting to form a bond and a relationship

with them that's been really great.

What you will see on visiting day is what you

see each year thereafter.

The consistency and warmth and welcoming

nature of the school is great.

Welcome to Bucknell!

Gryffin - Tie Me Down (Lyrics) ft. Elley Duhé - Duration: 3:39.

And tie me, tie me, down, down

And tie me, tie me, down, down

And tie me, tie me, down, down

And tie me, tie me, down, down

Hold me up, hold me up

You can take me home, You can never let me go

and Its been eating me alive

Swear to never let you down

Cause I never want to leave your side

Hold me up, tie me down

You push and you pull but you should stay, stay

Cause nobody wins these waiting games

And I'll put my hands around your neck

So wrap your arms around my chest

And tie me, tie me, down, down

And tie me, tie me, down, down

And tie me, tie me, down, down

And tie me, tie me, down, down

Hold me up, hold me up

You can take me home, You can never let me go

and Its been eating me alive

Swear to never let you down

Cause I never want to leave your side

Hold me up, tie me down

I'm right here baby so please

Praying to god that I feel the same

I want you down on your knees

I want you out in the pouring rain

So don't try cause you'll end up losing it

You're not shy so baby its useless

Don't hide, you're wasting your energy

Nine lives until you fall at my feet

And tie me, tie me, down, down

And tie me, tie me, down, down

And tie me, tie me, down, down

And tie me, tie me, down, down

Hold me up, hold me up

You can take me home, You can never let me go

and Its been eating me alive

Swear to never let you down

Cause I never want to leave your side

Hold me up, tie me down

I'm right here baby so please

Praying to god that I feel the same

I want you down on your knees

I want you out in the pouring rain

Thinking that we got time and you want to keep it in

You've got too much pride to make any promises

And two times you let it slip from your lips

Don't lie, I know you been thinking it
