Inflammation has got a pretty bad rap over the years and it's even been
associated with cancer. But what is inflammation and how is it connected to
cancer? Hi, I'm Nikki, the Truth Fairy from ChoosingDifferently.com and I'm here
to help you find your way to heal cancer. Inflammation is a natural and normal
process that occurs in your body in response to a threat to its health.
Whether that's a microbe, something in something you've eaten, an injury to
your body and plenty of other things as well. And inflammation has three main
purposes. Firstly, to remove the irritant, the threat, the thing that's actually
causing the problem in your body. Secondly to remove the waste products
from any cells that are damaged in the process. And thirdly to initiate healing.
Normally inflammation is a good thing because it responds to threats to your
health and helps to bring your body back into balance. The problem arises when we
constantly bombard our body with external irritants: pollution, pesticides,
cleaning products, allergens, stress, lack of exercise, smoking, microbes, you name it!
We're constantly overloading our system with these irritants and the
inflammatory response in the body simply can't keep up. And we go into a state
of chronic inflammation where it's constantly chasing to try and remove the
irritants, try and get rid of the waste products and try and get healing
happening. But it simply can't keep up. So what does the research say about the
connection between cancer and inflammation? Well, in the scientific and medical
community it's a recognised fact that there is a strong connection between the
two. And in fact many cancers do arise from sites where there have been infections,
inflammation or injuries. And in fact some people go so far as to describe cancer
as a wound that won't heal. It's also known that the inflammatory system and
the environment it creates in response to these irritants creates the perfect
environment for cancer cells to survive, to thrive and to spread further
throughout the body. So there is a strong connection between the two. So what can
we do about inflammation? Well, typically our first response is to take an
anti-inflammatory drug, like steroids or allergy drugs. The problem with these
solutions is they interrupt the inflammatory process. Sure the
inflammatory response goes away but what we're left with is the very thing
that the inflammation was trying to deal with. The irritants, the waste
products and the healing response that's just not as strong as it could be. So a
better way to approach this is to reduce inflammation naturally and support the
body as it tries to remove toxins and initiate healing. And one of the key ways
to do this is to change your diet. And in fact there are many anti-inflammatory
diets out there and I'll put links to some of those in the description of this video.
And not surprisingly they are very similar to many anti-cancer diets. They contain
less red meat, less processed foods, lots more plant foods, fermented foods and
foods that contain omega-3 fatty acids. Other ways to reduce inflammation
naturally include removing common allergens from your diet, strengthening your
immune system, using herbs and supplements, improving the health of your
gut, drinking plenty of water to help with detoxification, cleaning up your
environment, whether that's cleaning products or personal care products,
getting more sunshine, getting regular massages or using dry brushing, getting
lots of rest and relaxation and making sure you're getting enough sleep. So in
short, yes, there is a strong connection between inflammation and cancer. And
having chronic inflammation in your body makes it more likely that cancer will
develop and also makes it harder for cancer to heal once it has developed. But
remember that just because these two things happen together doesn't
necessarily mean that one causes the other. And keep in mind what inflammation
is trying to achieve: remove the irritant, get rid of the waste
products from damaged cells and initiate healing. So now it's your turn to take
action. Firstly I want you to see if you can identify the main causes of
inflammation in your life. Secondly, see if you can take steps to remove or
reduce these causes of inflammation. And thirdly, think about what else you can do
to support your body as it detoxifies and tries to heal. You might
