- If your tombstone had more than just a little dash
to explain your life, what would it say?
Legacy.
We all talk about it, we all want it.
We all want a good legacy, we all want our legacy
to be inspiring.
I shouldn't say we all want it, a lot of us want
our legacy to be one that people will be proud to talk of.
So two generations from now, three generations from now,
what do you want to be said about your legacy
from now, because today is part of your legacy.
Yesterday was part of your legacy, and tomorrow will be
a new part of your legacy.
So what are you doing to create it?
What are you doing today to make your life
the legacy that people can learn from?
So what can you do today to create your legacy?
One, decide which direction you're gonna set your sails.
You've gotta pick a point on the compass
and then go that way.
You can't just sit here and be wandering back and forth
and be like a ship without a rudder and no engine
to drive it forward.
I shouldn't say you don't have to.
Many people, that's how they live their life.
But if you're on this page and you're watching me,
my guess is you're not somebody that likes to just drift.
So what I want you to do right now is I want you
to take out a sheet of paper, and maybe you're driving
and you're watching this on your mobile device,
which you shouldn't be doing!
(laugh)
But I want you to get a sheet of paper and I want you
to write down on the left-hand side the things
you don't want, and I want you to write down
on the right-hand side the things you do want.
And I don't want you to think about it.
I mean, I don't want you to spend a whole lot of time,
you know, I'm not even qualified to do that,
or I'll never be able to get rid of that
cause that's part of my family, or that's my job,
I hate my job.
No, just write down the things you don't want.
Just write em down.
Well Sean, you're all about attraction
and the law of love and joy and bringing things in
to our life.
Yes I am.
The challenge is that it's too easy
to talk about that as an instructor, as a trainer,
as a mentor, as a speaker and say, oh, you just need
to think positive.
And we get all excited when we're in that social
energy called an event and we go,
what do I do now that I'm home?
So I know you can recognize the things you don't want.
Those you know right off the top of your head, right?
Write them down, because when you write them down
and if you start in one direction,
if you start one step in that direction or that direction
of something you don't want, you'll recognize it.
And you get to make a decision right then.
You get to decide either you're gonna keep going,
or you're gonna stop.
Lynn Grabhorn, who's passed away, Lynn Grabhorn
in her book, "Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting," says,
"when you give something 15 seconds of time
"in your mind, it starts to take on
"a life of its own."
So you've got about 15 seconds every time
you come up to a decision point to whether you're
gonna let it live or you're gonna change it.
So the next 15 seconds, are you gonna work on
something you want?
Are you gonna take time to move forward
towards the direction you want, and here's where you do
need that social energy, that social proof,
that social environment, that community.
You do need to have that, cause that's when you say
it's easy cause I know the path that way,
but I don't know what the new path is this way.
You gotta find that community.
You gotta have that mentor, you gotta have that book.
Now a mentor doesn't mean a person, a live person
like me, it means Napoleon Hill, Earl Nightingale,
Oprah Winfrey, somebody that when you get ahold of them,
you go ah, I can do it.
Does that makes sense?
I hope it does.
Write down the things you don't want.
Then decide the things you do want,
and when you're doing something different, guess what,
you might be on the right path.
