Heater controller box for my racks over here three two one
greetings everybody this is Paul the inventoryking hope you guys are all
having an awesome day and enjoying your fish if you guys can't punch the subscribe
button and click on that notification bell I would be honored for you guys to
join me on my fish keeping adventures by subscribing and joining the fish pack
now all the costs for this project are going to be in the description below so
if you want to know around what this cost
check the description we're gonna be building a DIY temperature controller
box for three aquariums 1 2 3 3 aquariums yeah I got these racks here in
my fish room 1 2 & 3 this box is going to control these 3 aquariums
there's heaters in each one so this video is a step by step with some speed
up hope you guys enjoy please comment down below what you think like the video
let's go so what I'm using for the build obviously is this plastic case I got
three single electrical outlets I got three indicator lights and three STC
1000 temperature controllers so the point of this is I want to use this to
control three aquariums on one rack I'm going to make the template for this so
what you can see here is I got the outlines all done on the case here so
that I can cut them out all right what I'm gonna do now is use the Dremel and
the bit and I'm gonna go ahead and get everything cut out I'm going to start
with the top
okay so now we're at a point where you can see here that I marked these spots
I'm gonna go and get my drill and drill that out that's for the electrical plug
outlets all right so as you can see we got everything laid out we're cut we got
everything taken apart so gonna go ahead now and put it together
alright let's go ahead and start assembling this so what I did was I
drilled a hole right down over here and the cord is gonna go ahead and go
through that what we need to do now is we need to work on assembling the
controllers themselves what we're going to do is we're gonna wire it through the
side and then just feed the cable through if that makes any sense so first
things first let's go ahead and strip some of this back so that we can see
what we're working with as far as this big cable is concerned there we go
alright so we have here your your hot wire you got your earth wire right here
and you got your neutral right there I like to cut all this off just because
it's less in your way when you're starting to work on it be prepare
there's gonna be all this little hair looking stuff that comes out of these
just be ready for it like that okay so that is our starting
point now what we want to do is go ahead and work on getting this wired up so on
the side here it says this is where the power is so you're gonna put a hot hot
into here and then you can see that that is going to be right right in here
so we're gonna feed hot into here and then we're gonna split that hot off over
to the heating side and go from there and then the neutral gets hooked up back
up on this side layer so we're gonna go ahead and go through it here's the
diagram right on the controller it's a you know pretty pretty easy - pretty
easy to work with okay so let's go ahead and shut this we'll move this out of the
way so I ended up picking up all of the this cable over from Lowe's it was cheap
easy nice all that good stuff and I'm gonna use I'm gonna allow myself some
extra room on here so we're gonna go ahead now and start stripping this back
okay so we need to strip that back and this
is gonna go into here now obviously I made that too big so what we're gonna do
is just cut a piece of that off there this is gonna go right into there
perfectly like so and then screwdriver right here on the connector there is a
we need a smaller one there is a flathead screw that crimps it
down so that is what you want to do there so we got the cable in on the
power side of the controller okay so now what we need to do is we need to go
ahead and connect that to this side so we're gonna go ahead and cut this we're
gonna go ahead and cut this short about right here okay now we need to go ahead
and shape it back and then we need to cut ourselves a piece that we're going
to be able to go from here to here so let's go ahead and we're going to
strip some of this back here
and I don't see us needing any more than
that that should do it there there okay we know this is a little big so we're
gonna go ahead and cut that and then make sure that this is loose over here
beat this into the power power side actually cut it a little too big but
that's okay so we're gonna fit it into the power side here and then again
you're gonna get your flat head and you're gonna screw it down to tighten it
up okay in and in so now that we got this part done obviously you could see I
cut it on this piece a little long but we're gonna be able to use this so that
is okay so I'm gonna go ahead and I'm gonna cut it about here then we're gonna
go ahead and strip this back and then this is 14 gauge wire okay now we need
to connect these two actually we're gonna do this we're gonna go ahead and
cut it here we're gonna strip some of this back
and we're going to connect these two together
okay so now we need to go ahead and strip this next piece off make sure you
know it's not too big now these three are gonna go together like so okay
then we're gonna go ahead and twist them together be patient with this it is you
know the because of the jacketing is real smooth on the kama wire it gets a
little hard to hold sometimes so go ahead and then get a pair of pliers here
hold the hold the cable twist them together have a nice pair of pliers just
so it's all together you want this to be together so it does not come apart
okay now we need a wire nut here we got our wire nut we got our three all
connected here we're going to go ahead and get this on here and that ain't
going to go anywhere so that is the first step to what we're doing here is
we're going and we're right this is where our main power is going to come
from so it's going to come into here run into this power side then it goes into
this power side and then we need to run power from here on out so what we're
going to do is we're going to set up all three like this
all right so as you can see we got all three of them wired up on the first part
which is awesome now what I want to do is we're gonna go ahead and run a
neutral wire here so on this part of the diagram here we got the power the second
terminal on this first one is your neutral so I'm gonna cut a piece of
neutral a decent size get it in there tighten it down so it's just it's done
it's ready to go I don't have to bother with that anymore
alright so we got that part done now what we need to do is run some more
power line down over here so we're gonna go ahead and we got our black here we're
gonna I would say probably about that much we'll do four where we need to go
right now
and
and right there okay so again strip a small amount back for what goes into the
connectors on the actual controller
so now this part so we have our power running into here then it ties off and
runs into here now we need to run that power now this one is for this power so
we're running power to the controller that tells the heater to go on and off
and this needs to run down over here
all right so like I said now we are totally ready to go so now we need to go
ahead and install those on to here
okay so here we go go ahead and we'll feed the first one through
like so
now these go on this part of the actual controller and this is to help cinch it
down so that everything stays in tact
like that
like that so it keeps it tight you can see there keeps it tight on the face I'm
gonna get the rest in there
all right so we've got the first part of this done
we got the controller is wired up and we got the power cord coming on in so the
next thing we need to do is work on the plugs and the LED indicators now the
next part of the project like I said is getting the plug in the LED light hooked
up now these are gonna go off of the line that's on the heater terminal
because you want this to control when it turns the heater on and when it turns
the LED on so this is on this line on this side so what I need to do is I'm
gonna go ahead and like this
this I'm going to go ahead and I'm going to split it off here just like I did on
this so that I could run to each one so we need the same thing again we need to
get a couple of pieces here that we're gonna connect it all together with
get rid of that there and go ahead and there and then now we need to get rid of
this
so to help with this I'm gonna go ahead and and get these two semi started just
so it's a little bit easier and then this sucker is gonna go here like this
again like I said be patient the because it's solid cable it it tends to be a
little tough to work with sometimes but just stick with it it all makes sense
it'll all end up working when you're working with small wire I found it you
know small pieces like this I found it easier to have another set of pliers to
help hold it all to help hold it all together if that makes sense
there we go now they're all on there in a nice way gonna go ahead and cut some
of the excess off right there and then slip this sucker on
and we are in business so that is how we set this part up of the build so this
sucker is gonna sit here we're gonna connect over to here and over to here
you can actually get that thing and the points kind of in the way there but okay
so now we need to go and feed this through the front side of the front
panel okay so we're gonna go like so
and then this thing goes right here gets tightened on
nice
now we need to get this sucker here and
okay so here's what we're up against I got that twisted there so it just gives
us more space so we need to go ahead and strip some of that back and we need to
strip some of that back so these are AC switching so it doesn't matter which one
I put them in but you want to make sure that you put that you want to hook this
up correctly this is an AC LED so it's switching so you know it's it's okay if
it goes on either one now when you're hooking up a plug the black hot line
goes to the brass screw so make sure you always put black to brass and all we
need to do now actually I think we're gonna go ahead and set it in here first
because I don't have a whole lot of room and we just want to make sure that we
have enough room to get this all done
you know now action well no that's in there tight nevermind
so we got that inside there and trusty screwdriver to tighten it down
that ain't going anywhere now this is gonna go so now we could stand this up
here bring this around here like so this is gonna go into again black to
brass this is gonna go and on here like this we're gonna go ahead and tighten it
down
like this and now we just arranged it so this is gonna get set
actually they're gonna do this hold up because it's a little tight note to self
give yourself some extra room all the time it'll make a difference it's easier
and all that stuff there we go that'll do
that will do
so that goes there so what we need to do now so we can screw this in is we need
to run the neutral and the ground or the earth so what I'm going to do is I'm
going to go ahead and get all of these put on first
all right so as you can see we got the we got the the LEDs hooked in and the
plugs hooked in all to the hot now we need to go ahead and get all the neutral
ran which is going to be the same thing it's gonna go from this white to this to
this so we need to go ahead and actually do that so we can actually start
fastening all this down
all right so as you can see we got the ground on each plug and then we got the
positive are the live and the neutral hooked up everywhere now I made one
mistake which it will be easy to fix and that is I forgot to have a mainline that
ties all the neutrals together so I'm going to pull these caps off these three
and I have bigger caps here so I'll be fine I think those ones are bigger
anyway I'm gonna pull these off get some white tie it off so that we could tie
those together so that was the only mistake I made and let's go ahead and
get that going okay so I got that fix like I said I got the extra neutrals out
I had to use a bigger nut here to fit what I was trying to do here because
just the way it was these ones weren't fitting so I had to get an off odd one
OCD okay so what we need to do now is actually get the we need to get the
plugs here screw it in and that stuff is right here
so we're gonna go ahead
okay so right here is where I got the screw
hole okay we can see that that's there let's go ahead and get this next one
okay
so then I got to get this little tiny it's like a makeshift washer nut thing
and twist it on here so that it could tighten down so let me go ahead and get
that done now awesome awesome awesome so we're at the point now where what we
need to do is we need to connect the neutrals together like so obviously got
to strip them got a cup connect those together connect these together connect
these together and then connect them up to here
so we are getting close to the end of the project now all we need to do is
connect all of this to the power plug and we're gonna be set so let's go ahead
here and actually that's probably actually good enough
well actually I'm gonna go and I'm going to strip this back just a smidge more
okay so first things first let's go ahead and connect the black since we
have plenty of room I'm gonna go ahead and cut this a little bit just so
there's not too much wiring in here so we don't need that anymore now go ahead
and shrimp this back now all we need to do is just literally wrap these together
like that cut it down
get why night
now what we need to do is we need to connect the cable to the outlet so let's
go ahead and unscrew this outlet as first
all right so we've got we got it put together there's a few little things I'm
gonna tweak on it I'm gonna add see if I could find some mini bolts here for the
outlets I need to put the guards back on to this but you could see there it is
the inside everything's good now I'm gonna have to figure out how I want to
run this probe each one of these has a probe on it so I need to find out
can we pull this out here I need to find out where I want to drill on the case so
that the probe wire could come out but yeah check it out check it out kind of
complicated kind of not looks pretty cool
okay everybody so just to give you guys again an idea of how this works
obviously we have the power coming in here so let's start off with the
controllers though how it works you've got your power coming in you bridge it
over to this one which is the heater controller and then you run power out of
it to your light and to your plug and then again hook your neutral up so again
once the probe registers what we want it'll it'll tell this switch here to
turn on which will lead the power down into the light and the plug and that's
how it works and then the rest of it I just bridged everything together to make
it work as one unit but what's awesome is I'm going to control three aquariums
with this box it is the moment of truth
three two one go check it out it is working awesome ones in Fahrenheit and
these two are in Celsius as you can see it says Inc burped on them I ended up
changing it out because the previous ones only went in Celsius so you hold
down the s you go to the C F click the s go to Fahrenheit click the power boom
they are all in Fahrenheit now the probes are inside right here on
each one the probes are in here what I need to do is I need to find a spot that
I want to drill these out on to get them into the tanks so that's why it's
reading what it's reading because it's in the inside now let's say that I want
this one here to be set at 75 degrees that's what I want the temperature when
it's in the tank so you're gonna go ahead and you're gonna hold this and
you're going to click on here so right now it's set to 71 so let's go ahead and
set that to 75 now soon as click this watch BAM so now the power
from the power that ran into here the controller is telling this here turn on
you're not at temperature so when I have this on the wall I will have these
lights on indicating when they come on and off which is awesome this one was
set way down so let's go ahead and get this one up as well again this is for
the example but check that out isn't that sweet
boom Shakalaka oh man I think that is so cool so again you're gonna set it to
what you want as a right now power is running to this and I don't want them to
be on obviously so I'm gonna go ahead and power these suckers down like so and
that's it that's it so let's go ahead and actually fire him back up Shazam
okay so let's go ahead and test it out now I just finished building this
obviously here in the summer I don't need to use it on any aquariums and I
started it in the wintertime so we're just gonna do this as the test so I have
the probe here for this controller I'm gonna go ahead and hold the probe and my
body heat you'll notice that it's gonna raise the temperature on the controller
here so you can see it going up because of my body temperature so we're gonna
use this cup of water we're gonna put this ice cube in here so that it
obviously gets really cold now I'm gonna use my GoPro battery charger as an
example we're gonna plug it in to the outlet now I have this set to go off at
68 degrees so theoretically once this hits 68 degrees this light should turn
on indicating that power is running to discharger let's go ahead and put the
probe into the water I have it set to a 2 degree difference so just like all
heaters so watch this you're gonna see this kick on so I know that the
controller is running now that should turn on once it gets two
degrees below 68 and that will prove that power is running and working you
can see it's going down it's going down there we go almost there almost there
boom there you go so see how that light turned on so now power is running from
the controller the controller told the power to run through here and turn these
on so we know that this works this is absolutely awesome so what did you guys
think of the video I would love your comments down below and if you could
like the video this was something that I thought would be super cool there's lots
of people out there who have built stuff like this I just wanted to do a triple
heater controller box for my racks over here I thought it was cool hope you guys
enjoyed it again if you could like the video comment down below
