I recently read about a 57-year old man in China named Mr. Yang.
Mr. Yang was working on a home improvement project in his house when he started to feel sick.
He kept working, trying to power his way through it.
But eventually, the pain in his head, in particular, was so, so difficult to work with
that he decided he needed to take a break.
And eventually, because it didn't go away, he decided he needed to go to the doctor to get it checked out.
After the initial exam, the doctor couldn't find anything wrong with him
and so he suggested a CT scan since the pain was in his head
And that's when they discovered that Mr. Yang had an 8 cm. long nail embedded in his head.
Apparently, one of the pieces of lumber that Mr. Yang was working with had a nail in it
and when it hit the blade, it sent the nail flying into his head, just above his left eye,
so quickly he didn't even notice it.
He just kept working, so focused on what he was doing.
Can you imagine being so focused on something that you are completely oblivious to a nail in your skull?
Maybe you wish you had that ability
because after Christmas suddenly we become aware again of all the things that we
were worried about before Christmas began;
before all the distractions of the parties and the gifts and the presents
and the kids and and all those different things.
And now we're suddenly aware again of the, the things that stress me out
and the worries and the bills that need to be paid and all the different things that weigh
on our hearts and minds.
And if that's ever been the case for you,
you wouldn't be the only one.
I think of the wise men that we read about in Matthew, chapter two.
It says that they saw a star
and when they saw the star, they traveled a long ways away.
And as far as I know, on their journeys they didn't have a nail in their brain.
But think of all the different reasons their hearts may have been full of a little bit of pain.
They were at least a thousand miles away from possibly the only home they've ever known.
Possibly leaving behind wives and children and friends and family that were telling them not to go,
asking them, "What do you think you're going to find there?"
You know, "Will it be worth it? Maybe you'll find nothing.
Maybe you'll carry all those expensive gifts and you won't be able to give them to anyone.
Maybe you'll find nothing."
Or maybe they would find a king so determined to be close to us that he would be willing to grow up
and go through his own moments of pain.
Except, unlike Mr. Yang, someone who would not be oblivious to the nails digging into his skin.
He would feel every bit of it as it rubbed against his bones and sliced through his skin.
Because he really was that determined to show you and me just how focused he is on your life
and on your needs and how determined he is to stay by your side through absolutely everything.
That's what the wise men found when they came to see Jesus,
a God who was entirely focused on them.
and a God who is entirely focused on you through everything.
I think you know that everyone goes through times of pain in their lives.
We have a book and a DVD bible study that's designed to help you get through those times
by keeping our focus on the power of prayer and on the wonderful promises that we find in God's Word.
These gifts are yours with any type of donation of any size to Your Time of Grace.
