Morning! Welcome to day two of Booktubeathon. It is quarter to 7:00 at the moment
and I'm so tired. It's only day two though so hopefully I can figure it out because we've
got a long way to go. This morning I am just watching some update vlogs from
some my favorite Booktubers and I am making a ball of yarn. Now you might be
wondering, "Riley, why the heck are you making a ball of yarn?" Today's Instagram
challenge is to take a picture of your favorite classic. My favorite classic is
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee and yes, this is my copy from when I first
read it when I was in ninth grade. I read it over the summer leading up to high
school and I took it literally everywhere with me. It got soaked in a
rainstorm, I think. The cover fell apart, but I still really love this book and if
you don't know, twine is a big symbol in To Kill a Mockingbird. So I don't have
twine per se, but I have yarn. So I'm going to make a ball of yarn.
I have this black kind of frilly yarn. I guess that's a good descriptor for it. But
I also have this white and I have this dark green. So I have a couple color
options so I'm going to make a couple balls of yarn. I am going to take my copy
of To Kill a Mockingbird with me and then maybe on my lunch break or after I get
out of work, I will find a tree and take my picture. But follow me on Instagram to
see my picture because I'm sure by the time you're seeing this it is live.
Anyway I'm just sitting here with my coffee trying to wake up and for my
goals today I want to finish Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde, which I'm going to be
able to do easily. I'm very invested this story. It is so cute and that would be my
"hyped read" completed and then I want to read a few more stories. I only
read one story yesterday and I wanted to read two so if I'm feeling up to it
maybe I'll read three stories today and then I'm going to continue my audiobook
when I leave for work and when I come back from work. So that's the goal for today. I
think those are pretty attainable. When I get home today I will do the video
challenge and show you guys what that is. Anyway I'm going to get back to my yarn
ball making and I will check in with you guys in a little bit. Hello! I am walking
to go get lunch and it is so cold out today at the heat in my building for
work is on. It's the middle of July and the heat is on in the office building! WHAT?!
Anyway I'm off to get lunch. I'm getting sushi and spring rolls because that's
all I would eat if I had the choice. I'm going to read some more Queens of Geek
on my lunch break and I'm going to check in with you guys when I'm officially out
of work. Hey guys! I have just left work and I am now
on the lookout for a good tree that I can use for my Instagram challenge. I
can't think of any parks that are close by to here but I'm in a pretty wooded
area. So hopefully I can find a tree somewhere that would work for this challenge.
Let's go on a tree hunt together, shall we? So it seems like all of the really
good like, To Kill a Mockingbird trees are in people's yards. So I don't want to
disturb anybody by breaking onto their yard [laughter] and just taking a picture so
I'm scouring the sides of the roads for like a park or just a tree that doesn't seem
to belong to anybody. I'll figure it out at some point. I'll let you know when I
find the right tree. Alright. I just pulled over into a little like, market
parking lot and there's some trees around here and I'll see if I can do
something with them. Let's go.
Alright, I think I got something I can work with. So Instagram challenge is done.
If you didn't notice that in yesterday's vlog, I am putting my link to my
submission in the description of each day's vlog. So if you want to go and look
at my Instagram challenge submission for the day I'm going to link it in the
description so go ahead and check that out. So now I am going to stop and grab
some more caffeine because I need caffeine to function right now and then
I'm going to head home and I'm going to do the video challenge for the day and
then I am going to read more Queens of Geek. I read like again 30 pages on my
lunch break. I was doing a little bit of watching other people's day 1 vlogs
because that's probably the funnest part besides reading and interacting with
everybody. Seeing everybody's vlogs. So I did a little bit of watching that
during my lunch break and then I read for like 30 minutes so I got like
30 pages done. But goal is to finish that tonight and then get some Zombies versus
Unicorns reading in. So that's the plan. So let's stop and get some caffeine. Get
home and go from there. Hey! So I just made it home and I am going to do the
video challenge. So today's challenge is the Say My Name challenge and what we
need to do is take one of your favorite books and spell out that book's title
using other books. So for this challenge I'm going to be using The Little Prince
by Antoine de Saint-Exupery, I think is how you say his last name. This has been
one of my favorite books for a very long time and the story just kind of stays
with you once you read this book so I think I'm going to use this one for this
challenge, so let's go over to my bookshelf and pick out some books.
[hip hop instrumental music]
Alright. To spill out The Little Prince I have These Broken Stars, The Help (not
including the "the" in the title) Every Heart a Doorway. "Little", which consists of
Little Women, Infinite Jest, The Handmaid's Tale (counting the "the" in this one), The Twenty-One
Balloons, Lumberjanes, Everything Everything. "Prince" is consisting of Peter
Pan, Room, I'll Give You the Sun, Never Let Me Go,
Church of Marvels, and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. Here's what we got.
That was a lot more difficult than I thought it was going to be. I couldn't find
"E"s anywhere on my bookshelf. It took me so long to find "E"s. But it was a lot of
fun. I really enjoyed doing that challenge. So thank you Naya for coming up
with that challenge. It was a blast. I cleaned up my books and I just got into
so comfy clothes so now I am going to read Queens of Geek and try to finish it.
Brett and I are watching The Challenge tonight at 9:00. It's about 6:20 or so. So
I'm going to read until the challenge starts probably. Hey everybody. So it's
about 10:00 p.m. now and Brett and I were just watching The Challenge on MTV
which... I love that show. It's so good. It's so trashy but it's so good. Who
doesn't love a good trashy reality television show? So I was going to end
the vlog here so I could start getting it edited but I wanted to check in with
you guys and let you know that I finished Queens of Geek which I loved. I
thought it was so cute and so fun. There is great, great representation for a lot
of different things in here. Anxiety, autism, bisexuality, there's
a plus-sized character in here which is wonderful and she's a main character.
They talk about slut-shaming. They talk about consent. They talk about like, what
a good and bad relationship is. It's just really, really great, and the premise is
just overall really fun. There's great friendship in here. It talks about kind
of just embracing who you are and what you like and not being ashamed of it and
it's just so good. I saw myself in the character Taylor a lot. Like, my 18 year
old self I saw in Taylor and I just - I just really loved this book and I had
such a wonderful time reading it and I would definitely recommend it. This is my
"hyped read" and I think the hype is worth it. This is, I think, the fun summer
contemporary read that I wanted from When Dimple Met Rishi and didn't get. It is just
so fun. So cute. I can't say enough good things about it
and I totally, totally would recommend it. I'm going to give this four stars. It's
so great and I hope you guys pick it up and check it out yourselves as well.
Especially for all you nerds out there who love geeky things. You will totally
love this book. So other than finishing Queens of Geek, I
did listen to two and a half more hours of my audiobook. I'm still really
enjoying it. Really loving it. I didn't, again, get to any stories in Zombies
versus Unicorns but I am working from home for the rest of the week. So that
gives me more time to actually read. I don't have a commute in the morning and
in the afternoon so I can do more reading. I can sleep in a little bit more.
I'll probably have more energy tomorrow and so I'm looking forward to that and
I'll definitely try to knock out some short stories tomorrow because I'm
neglecting my short story collection right now. Anyway, Booktubeathon day 2 is
over for me. Still going strong. Still having a great time and I can't wait to
continue on today 3 tomorrow. I hope you guys enjoyed this look if you did please
leave a big thumbs up. Subscribe if you haven't
already. I am vlogging all throughout the Booktubeathon so I will be seeing you
guys tomorrow. Bye!
