Youtube daily report Sep 4 2017

South Korea conducted a missile drill,... hitting targets in the East Sea.

The simulation exercise of a strike on the rogue state's nuclear facilities was held

before the crack of dawn on Monday... in response to the hermit kingdom's latest provocation.

Kim Hyun-bin takes us to the thick of the action.

The South Korean military gave its own response to Pyongyang's sixth nuclear test by firing

off a ballistic missile and air to ground missiles.

The simulated target was North Korea's Punggye-ri nuclear test site.

South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff says the drills were aimed at warning the regime for

its latest nuclear provocation.

The military fired a land-based, Hyunmoo-2-A ballistic missile -- which has a range of

300 kilometers -- ... and a SLAM-ER missile from an F-15K fighter jet.

Officials say all the missiles accurately hit their designated targets.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff say the drills were conducted against a target in the East Sea.

The range to the simulated targets was set in consideration of the North's nuclear test

site in its northeastern province.

(Korean) "This exercise shows that our forces can keep

our citizens safe from any threats from the North and proves that we can destroy the source

of attack and key enemy facilities."

Seoul and Washington are also planning to hold a combined military exercise in the next

few days to jointly respond to the recent nuke test.

North Korea conducted its sixth and most powerful nuclear test to date on Sunday.

Experts say it was six times stronger than the fifth test and eleven times more powerful

than the fourth.

S. Korea's spy agency not ruling out possibility of further provocations - Duration: 1:54.

The National Assembly's intelligence and defense committees briefed on the latest security

situation.

Based on their findings, even after the unprecedented nuclear test, further provocations may be

in the pipelines.

Kim Min-ji shares with us their analysis.

South Korea's intelligence agency says North Korea is ready to carry out another nuclear

test at any time.

After a parliamentary briefing by the National Intelligence Service on Monday,... lawmakers

quoted the spy agency as saying that construction of the third tunnel at the North's Punggye-ri

test site was complete,... and work is underway on another.

The spy agency said that Pyongyang's latest test was carried out in the second tunnel.

It confirmed that the test was the most powerful to date,... adding that further analysis was

needed in order to determine whether it was a hydrogen bomb or an electromagnetic pulse-based

bomb.

The intel agency said Pyongyang appears to be raising tensions and bolstering internal

solidarity ahead of the anniversary of the regime's establishment on September 9th,...

adding that the regime could also launch another ICBM towards the North Pacific.

In light of the growing provocations,...

South Korea's defense ministry says it is considering the deployment of powerful assets,

including nuclear powered aircraft carriers and strategic bombers.

During a parliamentary briefing,...

Defense Minister Song Young-moo said that he requested that the U.S. deploy its strategic

assets to Korea on a regular basis.

Seoul's defense ministry also noted that it has detected signs of the North preparing

for ballistic missile launches.

Song added that in a National Security Council session held after the North's nuke test,....

top officials from South Korea agreed on the need to boost military measures rather than

pursue dialogue with Pyongyang.

CNN Student News - September 4, 2017 | Worldwide Celebration of Shakespeare`s Anniversary - Duration: 10:01.

CNN STUDENT NEWS starts now. Hi, I`m Carl Azuz for CNN STUDENT NEWS. We are happy to

see you. It`s Monday, April 7 and we are going all over the world today starting in Afghanistan.

There was a big election there on Saturday. One that would determine the country`s next

president. Afghanistan`s been led by President Hamid Karzai since 2001. That`s when the U.S.-led

coalition kicked out Afghanistan`s former rulers, the Taliban who were protecting terrorists.

The Taliban threatened voters in the run up to this election with violence. At least 20

people were killed by insurgent attacks across the country, but that combined with bad weather

couldn`t keep people from the voting booths. There were a couple frontrunners for the title

of president. Preliminary results will be announced at the end of the month, but some

say that no matter who wins, the people will.

Standing in the rain, some waiting for hours, the people of Afghanistan lined up, each holding

their voting card, their ticket to democracy.

Um: We vote for him to win the future, we want to build the future for this man.

COREN: It was hope for the President Karzai would provide that future during his 12 years

in office. But it`s now his successor who this Afghans are banking on.

How does it feel to be here tonight?

Fantastic. Proud. Happy. Successful. I feel really good because I believe today is my

day. Today is the day, which is people of Afghanistan can go and vote it freely.

Following weeks of high profile attacks and Taliban threats to disrupt this elections,

the capital was unlocked down. Every man, woman and child searched before entering the

polling station. Inside voters queued again, this time to deep their forefinger into the

ink, before being given the ballot papers.

UM: Today I came here to select my next president and I hope to be a good person and to help

the people and to survive the people and to bring change in Afghanistan.

COREN: Voter turned out exceeded expectations. Well and 50 percent of eligible voters cast

their ballot. Remarkably, one third of them were women.

Several polling stations ran out of ballots and voting hours were extended by an hour,

due to heavy turnouts.

The resilience of these people is truly inspiring. Despite all the attacks and threats of violence,

Afghans have turned out in encouraging numbers to cast their vote in polling stations around

the country. They strongly believe that after so many years of war, they too deserve a peaceful

and brighter future.

Democratic elections are also taking place in what`s known as the world`s largest democracy.

India is officially a federal republic. Its population is 1.2 billion people, the second

highest population in the world. And because more than 814 million of them are eligible

to vote, the election that starting in India today is being called the biggest election

the world`s ever seen.

Opinion polls show that the political party that`s led India for the last ten years could

be in trouble. The economy has slowed down, there`ve been some high profile scandals involving

corruptions. And about 30 percent of the population leaves in poverty, so change is in the air.

But with so many people voting this election happens in phases. The last one of those ends

on May 12, and the results should be in by May 16.

The plane hasn`t been found, but the mystery about what happened to Malaysian Airlines

Flight 370 has gotten deeper. A Malaysian government official says after the plane`s

transponders stopped sending tracking information, the jet flew a wayward path around Indonesian

airspace. Was it taken this way intentionally to avoid radar? As investigators consider

that, two search ships might have picked up a signal over the weekend. They were in two

different search areas in the Indian Ocean. What they heard might have been the ping that

flight data recorders sent off after a plane goes down.

The ships can`t confirm, this is what they picked up and the batteries powering the signal

only last a month or so. The flight disappeared on March 8. More ships are headed to this

area`s west of Australia to listen in. The search has been massive, the cost of doing

it massive.

The search for Flight 370 will likely rank as the most expensive in history. Think about

it. The scope unprecedented. 21 nations, 80 ships, 61 aircrafts. Now, most of the money

coming from military training budget. Think about it, that makes sense. You`ve got all

of these countries usually spending money doing mock exercises. This is something real.

So money are coming from those training budgets. Also, some from humanitarian budgets. And

for the U.S., the money is now shifted, it`s coming from Navy operations in some cases.

So, the Pentagon originally allocated $4 million for the search. 3.2 million spent between

the 2nd of March and the 24. One source the military telling us, this general rule cost

about $100,000 a day, this operation. Some of these aircrafts, think about it, cost $10,000

an hour to operate.

Now, other countries are pitching. And these are the big Seven. The big seven here: the

Australians taking the lead, officially taking the lead of the investigation ending the week.

The prime minister there saying, everyone paying their own cost right now. They are

not keeping track, quite frankly. They are really trying to get out there and solve this

mystery. So, if you do the back of the envelope math, based on what the U.S. is spending,

we can estimate the search probably costing more than $21 million per month. So, how does

that compare with other aviation disasters? Air France Flight 447 two years search after

that crash in 2009. That was about $50 million. TWA Flight 800, that was about 40 million,

1996, one of the longest investigations the NTSB ever conducted. Swiss Air 111. This went

down off the coast of Nova Scotia, in 1998. Search recovery investigation took four years

and cost $39 million.

Time for "The Shoutout." In which Shakespearean play would you find the famous quote "All

the world is stage, and all the men and women merely players." If though knowst it, shout

it out! Is it, "As You Like It," "Much Ado about Nothing?", "Twelfth Night" or "All`s

Well That Ends Well." You`ve got three seconds, go.

This is a tough one, but the quote is from Shakespeare`s comedy "As You Like It." That`s

your answer and that`s your "Shoutout."

Quick look at William Shakespeare by the numbers. We just named four of his 37 plays. He wrote

more than a million words and made up more than 1000 of them. He was born 450 years ago

this month, and his work has been translated into more than 80 languages. It`s been performed

in places and in front of audiences far beyond the globe theater in London.

This month marks William Shakespeare`s 450th birthday and people around the world are celebrating

from Stratfordians to Syrians. Yes, Syrians. 100 Syrian children have just performed an

adaptation of King Lear in one of the world`s largest refugee camps located in Jordan. The

Zaatari Camp is home to over 100,000 Syrian refugees over half of whom are under the age

of 18. Many of the children are not educated and have never read or seen any of Shakespeare`s

work, but they are no strangers, of course, to the tragedy of the human condition. And

this particular play, a story of exile, a land divided by rival groups, a tale of human

cruelty seems especially relevant. While the refugee camp may seem like the unlikeliest

of places to discover Shakespeare, the playwright himself might not have thought so. After all,

mentioning faraway places was common in his place. In both Macbeth and Otello, in fact,

Shakespeare mentions the Syrian city of Aleppo. Another reminder that Syria is one of the

oldest centers of human civilization, which makes the current violence there seem even

more tragic.

North, south and east - it`s a tridirectional roll call today. In the land of 10,000 lakes

we`ve got the Spartans on the roll. They are watching at Rocori High School in Cold Spring,

Minnesota. In the South, right near Mobile Bay, Alabama, great to see the trodgents (ph)

of Daphne High School in Daphne. And northeastern New Jersey at Schalick High School, hello

the Cougars watching in Pitts Grove.

When the game of Tetris came out in 1984, no one had a 65-inch HDLCDTV to play it on.

But even if someone did, this is better: a Drexel University Associate professor worked

with the Tetris company to make this happen in Philadelphia over the weekend. People played

the game from half a mile away. LED lights were placed on the glass facade of a 29 stories

skyscraper to make it possible to game on. Don`t know yet if they broke their record,

but when all the pieces fall together like this, the sky scrapers the limit. There`s

no question it was a blockbuster, it brought delight with delights and made for one fine

Gameboy. That`s our show for today, I hope the rest of yours is a great one. I`m Carl

Azuz.

2017 Mazda MX-5 RF Premium - Behind the Wheel - Duration: 5:44.

Imagine if you will what may have transpired

one bright day at the headquarters of Mazda in Japan

Let's take a good car, Miata

make better, add metal, watch the whole world go nuts

well

Inside the city or just outside, it's the best of both worlds

compact, light and fun

It has been on the wishlist of many even before its inception

The MX-5 was introduced back in 1989

and this Mazda Retractable Fastback or RF for short

is the 4th generation of the world's best selling roadster

Now it was announced late last year

and made its Philippine debut

at the 2017 Manila International Auto Show

Look at this thing, it's eye candy, it's jailbait even

Too much? Sorry

Anyway, it's basically a regular MX-5 except that

its got strapped with a hundred and thirty pounds more weight

thanks largely to this

but we'll get to that later

Trunk space is not hampered by the folding roof

which folds nice and neatly right under there

over here we've got the secret button to open the trunk

You got a great space here basically

enough for our camera equipment

or roughly the size of a medium size suitcase

which is great for you and the missus to get away for the weekend

Unless you're my wife who likes to bring a mini fridge

wherever it is that she goes

I'm not kidding I've got that documented

Anyway, enough with this chit-chat chit-chat let's go for a drive

The engine and transmission of the RF are exactly

like the ragtop MX-5. It's a very spirited

2-liter mated to a very quick and agile 6-speed automatic transmission

Now, there are no manual RF's in the Philippines

as of yet, or ever, we really don't know

But what we are sure is that

there are plenty of people out there going "boohoo"

The interior mirrors most Mazda cars out there

which is not necessarily a bad thing

For starters, its got a 7-Inch touchscreen display

located on the center of the dashboard

which doesn't interfere with my line of sight

and is controlled by the commander knob way down here

which I can use without taking my eyes of the road

Check this out, 10km/h

The metal roof adds to the sturdiness of the car

as well as security and protection

noise interference is down compared to the ragtop obviously

Plus, because it's a solid top the airconditioner

has an easier time cooling the cabin

so you don't necessary have that "toaster oven feeling" for very long

And in just 14 seconds

the RF goes from a beautiful ball gown

to a bodacious bathing suit

that would make even Pia Wurtzbach stand up and applaud

Oh my goodness this car is so much.. Oh! Oh!

So much grip! You push, you point and it goes

this thing is so much fun

and as you slow down

it engine breaks for you, Oh! You hear that? Oh!

Oh I gotta get one of these. This is too much fun

Let's hear that engine break again

Oh yeah

Pop it on sport mode and just have fun

Oh my goodness this is too much fun

So, let's crunch some numbers

This Premium RF is 2,250,000 Philippine Pesos

The standard RF is 2,180,000 Philippine Pesos

a difference of 70,000 Pesos for Nappa leather

Now, let's go the other way. The top end MX-5 ragtop

is available at 1,980,000 Philippine Pesos

which essentially translates to 200,000 Pesos

for this, a retractable hardtop

Now, is it worth it?

Well, if you consider the Philippines's torrential rains

blistering sun, you got added protection and security

and plus added rigidity to the entire body

then our take on it would be definitely a yes

However, 70,000 Pesos for Nappa?

We'll leave that up to you guys

But if its a difference between the MX-5 and the RF?

Yeah, definitely

10 RIDICULOUS Laws You Won't Believe Exist! - Duration: 11:03.

Everyone knows we need laws to keep us safe. But some laws can be a little crazy

Here are the top 10 most ridiculous state laws, Stay tuned to number one to see why it is impossible to break.

Number 10: Massachusetts, can't sing only half the national anthem.

If you start with "oh say can you see" in Massachusetts,

you'd better remember the rest of the words, because it is illegal to sing only part of the star-spangled Banner.

According to the law, you cannot sing the anthem other than "as a whole and separate composition."

In fact, violators can be fined up to $100.

The same law makes it a crime to play the national anthem as dance music,

which is really too bad because you could imagine the national anthem making a really rockin mix with a Katy Perry song!

The law is listed as a crime against government in the state,

So it was presumably intended to stop people from disrespecting the anthem. Which makes sense, but what if you have a really bad voice?

Honestly for some people...continuing to sing the anthem would be more of a crime against humanity than stoping!

Number 9: Alaska - can't be drunk in a bar

In Alaska, it's not illegal to get drunk in a bar,

But it is against a law to remain there once you are drunk.

And, you can't get around this law by hopping from one bar to another because it's also illegal to enter a bar when you're drunk.

You also can't wait outside and pay someone else to get you a drink because the same law makes it a crime to deliver

alcoholic beverages to a drunk person.

Ok, I think I finally have a way around this. Nope! Still not! You can't even get around the law by owning the bar,

because it's against the same law to serve drinks while drunk!

That clever Alaskan legislature...always one step ahead.

If you have to leave a bar when you're drunk, you might wonder why you'd go there in the first place.

But for us the bigger question is, in a state as cold as Alaska

why would you want to throw the drunk people outside?

If this were really enforced wouldn't it be a safety hazard to have all those drunks wandering around in the snow?

Someone might...pass out on a moose!

Number 8: Colorado - snowball fights are illegal.

Speaking of snow,

Colorado has banned the classic winter pastime of throwing snowballs.

The same law also bans catapults, which definitely seems more reasonable.

But it makes us wonder,

why on Earth are the two grouped together? Is it a slippery slope?

Do Colorado kids start out throwing snowballs and work their way up to siege engines?

We're also not sure how this is enforced.

Do the police round up roving games of eight-year-olds and throw them in the pen?

Do they raid snow Forts and arrest kids just for having piles of ammunition?

Or is there an exemption to owning snowballs for "personal use?" Now, one would think that relying on informants could work,

but it's risky. You know that any kid who testifies is going to get pelted the minute he walks out of court.

All in all, enforcing this law

might not be the best use of Colorado's police resources and our guess is it's pretty far down on the cops list of priorities.

Number 7: Wyoming - no pictures on public land.

Most Ridiculous laws are old ones, but here's a law that was passed as recently as 2015.

It is now a crime in the state of Wyoming to take pictures on public land if those pictures are

"submitted, or intended to be submitted to any agency of the state or federal government."

Apparently there are some

polluted streams in Wyoming, and the state wasn't happy that people were taking pictures of them as evidence that they violated water quality standards.

So they banned the pictures.

Problem solved...right?

Number 6: Rhode Island - must warn drivers when passing.

You probably broke this law if you've driven in Rhode Island. When passing another car, you must give a

timely, audible signal like honking your horn.

Failing to do so could get you an $85 ticket.

Maybe this law dates back from the days when cars were rare,

but, imagine nowadays if everyone honked their horn every time they passed another car.

You couldn't hear yourself drive!

In fact, obeying this law could be dangerous. If you honk your horn at every car you passed, how long before you trigger someone's road rage?

They'd be furious! They'd probably try to run you off the road...the whole time you'd be trying to communicate using hand signals

"I'm not mad at you, I'm just trying to obey this stupid law!" So if you find yourself driving in Rhode Island,

our advice would be...lay off the horn and risk the ticket.

I should also mention that following our legal advice is never recommended,

so you're on your own.

Number 5: New Jersey - can't wear a bulletproof vest when murdering someone.

Now here's a law that goes into the "is that really necessary" bucket.

In New Jersey, it is illegal to wear a bulletproof vest when committing a murder.

While we can all agree that wearing a bulletproof vest while committing a murder is a bad thing,

you would think what's really bad about this is the, you know,

committing a murder part! Not the

Wearing a bulletproof vest part, right? And there are already, you know, laws against murder.

You might think that the idea is that wearing a bulletproof vest shows that someone

expected to get into a gun battle,

so maybe it proves they planed the murder?

But you shouldn't need a special law to use that as evidence for premeditation. And the law also applies to other serious crimes like robbery,

rape, assault, and kidnapping.

This law was probably created just to give the police more to charge a suspect with, but we highly doubt it would impress a jury.

Imagine the prosecutor saying, "not only did this man rape and murder a young woman, but he did it while wearing a bulletproof vest!"

Our not so unexpected legal advice here? Don't commit murder!

Number 4: Oklahoma no bear wrestling or horse tripping.

Say that one 10 times fast!

But this is actually a twofer! The same

Oklahoma law Prohibits both bear wrestling and horse tripping. But, strange enough, no other animal mistreatment is mentioned.

Apparently the tripping of Bears and the wrestling of horses is

completely legal. No, this law is very specific.

It doesn't just make it illegal to promote, engage in, or be employed at a bear wrestling

exhibition or horse tripping event, it also Prohibits giving any substance to a bear,

injecting any substance into a bear, or causing a bear to ingest or inhale any substance for the purpose of bear wrestling.

It's good that they added for the purpose of bear wrestling, though,

I think they wanted to clarify that it's okay to cause your bear to ingest or inhale

substances as long as you don't force them to wrestle afterwards!

Horse tripping is defined as causing an animal of the equine species to fall or lose its balance.

But, the drafters of the law made sure to add that it does not include the

lawful laying down of a horse for medical purposes, or for the purposes of identification.

Clearly bear wrestling and horse tripping were (or are) a real thing in Oklahoma?

So it's not ridiculous to ban them, but... you'd think they could have made the law a little more general. Otherwise,

what's to stop wolf biting and cow lifting from becoming that next big craze?

Number 3: Nevada - can't use x-rays to determine shoe size.

It's a misdemeanor in the state of Nevada to operate or maintain

any shoe fitting device or shoe fitting machine which uses fluoroscopic,

X-Ray or radiation principles. These shoe fitting machines, called pediscopes, were a big thing in the mid 20th century.

Salespeople used them to draw in customers, claiming that the machine would give them the perfect fit!

Customers would try on a shoe, then put their foot in the pediscope.

The idea was that the salesperson could directly see where their toes were inside the shoe.

In reality, the pediscope didn't help that much in determining

shoe size, because shoe size doesn't just depend on your bones,

but also...you know...on the flesh around them. Which the x-Ray didn't show anyway!

And of course it isn't healthy to expose yourself to radiation.

The pediscopes were supposed to have shielding so that the x-Rays only hit the foot,

but there was always leakage and sometimes the shields were removed to improve the image quality, or make the machine lighter. The salespeople

themselves were the most at risk, since they were exposed to radiation many times a day,. But it certainly wasn't healthy for anybody.

Eventually, everybody figured this out and pediscopes went the way of the dodo bird.

But Nevada was way ahead of the curve and banned these machines in 1960. The law is still on the books!

Number 2: Pennsylvania - Can't barter a baby

As far as we know,

Slavery and human trafficking are illegal in the state of Pennsylvania just like everywhere else.

But apparently those laws weren't enough for the Pennsylvania legislature because they enacted a law to ban the trading or

bartering of infants. Here's where we're somewhat confused, though.

We're not sure if the prohibition against trading is meant to cover trading your baby for some concrete good - like a really nice car, or,

if it's meant to stop people from swapping babies with each other. Like, "hey

Johnny's really great with a bottle. I'll trade you him for Suzy and a first-round draft pick!"

But if you do get caught bartering babies in Pennsylvania don't worry too much, because there's a silver lining. It's only a misdemeanor!

Number 1: Washington - no harassing Bigfoot.

Our prize for the most ridiculous law goes to Skamania County, Washington,

where it's against the law to hunt or harass the creature commonly known as sasquatch, yeti,

bigfoot, or...giant hairy ape.

This law was passed in 1969 after a film had come out

supposedly showing the creature. It made killing Bigfoot a felony punishable by five years in prison.

In 1984, Skamania County

realized that the felony charge exceeded its authority, so it reduced the killing of Bigfoot to only be a misdemeanor.

It also updated the ordinance to declare Skamania County a sasquatch refuge.

Now, we have no word on whether it's legal in the county to trap unicorns or steal gold from leprechauns.

Which law did you think was the most ridiculous? Let us know in the comments below!

What Happened vs What's Next: Late Work Product - Duration: 3:24.

Hello, I'm Tony Mayo,

The Business Owner's Executive Coach.

There's a common situation in business.

Well, in life,

when someone has been tasked

to deliver something at a particular time

-and it's not ready.

You've probably been in this situation many times yourself.

I'm sure you'll be in it many times again.

We'll talk about integrity elsewhere,

but for today, think about this,

put yourself _in_ this situation.

You walked to the person's desk, you asked for the report,

and they say "It's not ready."

What's your automatic,

almost instinctive knee-jerk response?

"What happened?"

Right?

And the employee starts to explain, or excuse, or describe

what happened that prevented them from having it ready.

And, like a helpful, insightful manager that you are,

you start to solve these problems for them.

But _think_ about this.

When the two of you are talking about what happened,

what period of time are you dealing with?

It's the past, right?

Now, how much power do the two of you have over the past?

Zero.

Why we talking about that?

It does no good.

Here's a better response:

Go to the person's desk, at the appointed time.

You ask for the deliverable.

Employee says "It's not ready."

And, you say, "What are you going to do next?"

or "When can you have it ready?"

Now, what period of time are you talking about?

The future, which is where we're all going to live.

Let's make a plan for that.

Now, talking about the future

really involves some planning, some detail,

and also some restoration of trust.

[Chuckle] I don't think employees are children. They're adults.

But, there's some situations in parenting

that bring out into broad relief just _basic_ human behavior

that shows up in the office too.

It was a big threshold of maturity

when I trained my children to take responsibility

for something they'd done or hadn't done by apologizing.

The next step, even more powerful,

was at the end of that apology,

to explain how they were going to get better next time.

I want to be convinced by the child or the employee

why I should believe this new deadline, this new promise.

What are you going to do differently?

Why can I rely on you now more than I did before?

Because after all, I don't want my employees

or my children to be sorry. I want them to be successful.

So let's talk about the future and describe specific steps

that can be taken

to make you more successful in that future.

Of Monsters and Mushrooms by Lesley Herron

Chapter 9, Entoloma

Attila pointed his jaw up and to the side, doing his best to appear somewhere between

pensive and triumphant.

He adjusted his feet, squared off his shoulders, and tried to puff his chest out.

Attila wasn't sure how much longer he could this heroic pose.

His legs were trembling with aches from running and a single bead of sweat threatened to roll

over the bridge of his brow and into his good eye.

But he was desperate to make certain that everyone had time to see him this way.

"Knock it off, you idiot.," Vel grumbled as he gave his duster a hearty shake, releasing

the dirt into the air in thick plumes.

The merc didn't even have a chance to respond when Errik's hand shot out and shoved Attila's

mask, forcefully, on his face.

He stumbled back, tripping over Evan, and landed in a heap at the bottom of the rubble

pile.

"What do you mean by idiot?,"Attila asked, his voice a little waspish.

Not even a thank you!

That ungrateful cyborg!

Attila had found the way out, saved Vel, -and- still had time to kill the worm.

What more did he want?

"I'm not the one who was running the wrong way in the tunnels."

Vel could feel a vein tighten in his forehead, and that all too familiar throb of a migraine.

He shoved his arms back into his duster and reached down to wrench Attila off the ground.

He set him down roughly, and continued to glare at him from behind his mask.

"Yeah, but only an idiot would endanger, not only himself, but those around him in

a vain attempt to show off.

Because...," Vel paused, gesturing at the pile of rubble behind him.

"...only an idiot would block our only way home and think that it's something to celebrate."

Errik moved between the two, trying to save Attila from his brother's murderous wrath.

"Hey!

Stop.

It's fine.," he began, his voice reflecting the unseen smile he was offering to Vel.

"It's not that far back to your place from here.

And, at least now we don't have to worry about Madam Whisper coming after us."

Errik hoped some of these truths would convince his brother to back down.

"Not that far back!?," Vel snapped.

Errik dropped his arms back to his side, and took a step back.

Nope.

It hadn't worked.

"It wouldn't be that far back if we could -fly-!

But hacking through that forest, it'll take days!

And, correct me if I'm wrong, but -somebody- left all of our provisions behind!"

Errik made a noise of surprise and indignation.

He was affronted that Vel could even throw that in his face.

"You told me to!"

"And since when have you -ever- listened to me?

Between you and the witless wonder here, it's a miracle we've made it this far!"

Attila felt something snap within.

You can only be pushed so far before you just can't take it anymore.

He threw his hands up in frustration.

He'd had enough.

"Fine!," he shouted, picking up his hat.

He gave it a good thumping, fixed the brim, and shoved it on his dust covered head.

"This -idiot- will find his own way to the gate!"

He gave an all mighty huff through his mask and swiveled on his heel.

He stomped off down a broken alleyway before disappearing out of sight.

Errik shot an unseen look at Vel, and crossed his arms in disappointment.

Evan added to the guilt by offering up his own disapproving stare.

Attila tried to rub the granules of dirt from his mechanical eye, but stopped when his finger

hit the glass lens of his mask.

He gave another indignant huff as he rounded the corner.

He certainly was -not- an idiot.

He was the most intelligent, the most talented, and positively the most handsome of all the

citizens in Three Hub.

He had managed to make a working carburetor out of a stick of gum, a tin can, and a broken

inhaler.

Okay, so it didn't run for long, but it had worked!

He kicked a rock angrily and looked up.

The way Errik had described it, they would be marching through the heart of the mushroom

forest.

But the end of the alleyway opened up onto a wide street, littered with abandoned vehicles

that were more rust than metal.

Dead trees lined the sidewalks along the pavement like the ribs of a long deceased behemoth,

and just beyond was the remains of a sprawling, prewar metropolis.

The remains of Harmony Valley.

Attila stepped over the withered fiberglass skeleton of along abandoned baby stroller,

and into the open.

Great fissures had fractured the street, leaving one side of the city a foot higher than the

other.

The parts of the streets, walkways, and alleys that weren't filled with debris were covered

in the same red spongy moss that blanketed the mushroom forest.

He followed one the moss filled fissures to an intersection.

Towering structures, steel buildings, and toppled sky scrapers were spread out before

him, slowly being consumed by a wide variety of giant mushrooms he hadn't seen before.

There were large umbrella shaped mushrooms that blocked out huge swathes of sunlight,

ones that formed thick hexagonal netting between the gaps in the buildings, and mushrooms with

long sweeping tendrils that looked like phosphorescent creeping vines.

They crawled up the sides of the prewar monoliths, using the skyscrapers to reach ever higher

where the wind was the strongest to carry their spores.

Through all of the vines, moss, and oddly shaped mushroom protrusions, Attila could

recognize an old faded store sign.

"Ooohooohooo."

He jogged through the street, jumping over moss filled apertures.

He was unable to contain his glee.

His anger towards Vel was forgotten as he pushed against the remnants of a glass door.

"I don't understand why you have to be so crass all the time.," Errik shot, unwavering

from his stance.

"He -did- save us from the worm."

"Yeah and almost killed all of us in the process."

Errik tapped his foot angrily.

Vel snorted.

"Even if he did, everything we've endured, up to now, is -his- fault.

And here we are, stuck in the one place we don't want to be stuck in."

"The tunnel would have collapsed anyways, and one or all of us might not have made it

out.

Say what you will, but he did stare down a borer worm while we ran away!

I just...," Errik paused, dropping his hands finally.

"I just don't understand why you have to be so hard on him, or so resistant to this

expedition."

"Because you know how I feel about this place.," Vel muttered, shoving his hands

into the pockets of his coat.

A flicker of movement beyond his brother's shoulder caught his attention.

There, scurrying among the rabble of a desiccated building, was a warbling mass of black inky

goo.

It shifted and swirled, as if it were trying to figure out what would be the best body

shape to move around in.

Vel watched as it sprouted an odd number of animal like legs and began to wobble about.

He turned his attention back to his brother.

"I hate it here, and if you could see these little parasites running around you would

too.," he mumbled, his eyes flickering back to the Unseen.

"Look.

I get it.

This place sucks.

For a lot of reasons.

But I needed more information on the gate anyways.

I wouldn't have even suggested it if I didn't have my own agenda.," Errik said, his hand

gesturing lazily in the direction of the gateway.

"You said you wanted to go home.

Well, this is how I figure that out."

Vel was only half listening now, as the lone Unseen was joined by several others.

They were spawning and swarming in a small group of twisted and horrific looking monstrosities.

They chittered and clicked at one another.

They were harmless in small numbers, but that didn't stop him from shuddering at the sight

of them.

"I'm just saying that perhaps Attila's not really a complete moron.

And that maybe, if you apologize we can all go through the gate together.

We could use his help!," Errik pointed out.

Vel nodded slowly in agreement, even though he hadn't heard a word his brother had just

said.

The swarm of Unseen had just noticed them, and was slowly advancing on them.

Evan, who was the furthest from the group, was idly examining a filth covered forgotten

doll.

He lifted it up by it's arm, watching the dirt cascade off it.

"What happened here?," he asked, turning the doll in his hands.

Vel moved over and plucked Evan off the ground, tucking him under his arm like one would a

wayward child.

One of the uglier Unseen, in the form of a seven legged misshapen rat, lunged at Evan.

Vel gave it a heft kick, sending it flying back into a pile of debris.

"Let's go find the idiot and get out of here."

"Hey!

I know how to walk you overgrown can opener!," Evan snorted, as he jabbed a tiny fist into

his captor's ribs.

Vel dropped him, wincing.

Errik clapped his hands together, happily.

He spun around for a moment, as if to gather his bearings.

"Um.

Do we have any idea which direction he took off in?"

One of the buildings in the distance collapsed in a small explosion, sending up a cloud of

dust and smoke like a beacon.

Vel sighed, and pointed in the direction of the plumes of black haze billowing out from

the skyline.

Hopefully, he thought, as they took off in a run, Attila's actions hadn't caught the

attention of any of the nastier Unseen.

"Attila!," Errik called out, looking at the destroyed building in despair.

He heard only his own voice backing back at him, echoing off the narrow alleyways.

Vel began pulling out chunks of concrete and drywall, tossing them behind him.

He couldn't be sure what he was doing, or why, as he heaved another hunk of debris behind

him.

The building was completely demolished.

No one could survive this kind of damage.

"Oh, hey guys!"

Vel froze, his hand still gripped around a sizable piece of concrete.

He turned slowly around to see Attila standing, unharmed, in the parking lot of an abandoned

sporting goods store.

He was cranking back on the winch of a makeshift catapult, a bundle of propane bottles loaded

into it's business end.

"What in the hell...," Vel said, dropping the chunk of concrete back into the pile.

He stepped closer to Attila, staring up at the giant machine.

"...is that?"

Attila slapped the side of the siege weapon.

"Nice, right?

I call her Bessie!

She's a bit hard to aim, but packs a wallop!

I'm still working out how to carry her though..."

Evan let out a maniacal cackle of delight as he circled the catapult.

He placed his tiny hands on the frame, and gave it a loving stroke.

"The damage I could do with one of these!," he chuckled, as if speaking to only himself.

"I think...," Errik said, cutting in before Vel could fly off the handle again.

"...what he meant, is -why- did you build a catapult?"

"How else am I going to rescue Brig?

I needed some hardware!

Wanna see the rest?"

Before they could answer Attila was heading for the front of the shop, beckoning them

to follow.

He stepped through the broken display window, and pulled something out from behind the register.

He turned with a smile, brandishing a rocket propelled grappling hook, made from a boating

anchor, some rope, and a modified scuba tank.

"For if we fall down one of those buildings!"

Vel followed the others slowly, careful to step over a spring loaded crossbow.

It wasn't filled with arrows, but pocket tasers strapped to tent stakes.

He could feel a muscle spasm under his eye.

Errik grabbed Vel by the arm, stopping him.

"Remember, you said you would apologize so he'd go with us."

"I did what?"

Vel certainly didn't recall agreeing to any such thing.

Errik gave a visible huff, and folded his arms in front of himself again.

"Fine.," Vel replied through grit teeth.

Evan pointed at one of the more unique contraptions.

"What's that for?"

"This one's for if we run into those pesky Un-visibles that Errik told me about!,"

Attila said, almost beaming with pride as he picked up a hair trigger weapon that was

loaded with twenty different colors of spray paint cans.

Vel couldn't do it.

Even on his best days, he could never apologize to someone like Attila.

"Leave that piece of junk here and let's go!," he barked, trying to keep his temper.

Attila turned his back on the group and walked inside the building, stepping over a broken

mannequin defiantly, muttering under his breath.

"You're the piece of junk..."

Vel whirled around, his hand gesturing angrily as Attila stomped off into the store.

"I can't do it!"

Errik shook his head and only made to shoo his brother off, who after a minute of coercing

begrudgingly relented.

Vel followed Attila into the store, and immediately wished he hadn't.

Filling every corner and rafter of the building was trembling masses of the same black inky

goo.

They pulsed and throbbed, as they began to separate.

"Attila...we need to go.

Now.," Vel said, trying to keep his voice calm but urgent.

"Why?

So you can boss me around some more!?

Who made you the boss, anyway!?," Attila replied simply, his voice uneven.

He was busy digging through a pile of bungee cords, measuring them against his spray can

contraption, and didn't seem to notice the look of panic on Vel's face.

The Unseen were separating from the masses, and began to take on individual forms.

They fell to the floor like giant drops of tar, and began to pry themselves up into twisted

animals.

Vel, more urgently this time, pleaded with Attila.

"Look.

We -really- need to go.

Now.

It's not safe here."

Attila stopped foraging, dropping his packs of cords in favor of the conveyor belt off

the register.

"You know, now that I think about it.," he started, ripping the band of rubber up

with great effort, keeping his back turned on Vel.

"I've done all the work.

Who sweet talked Lola into helping?

Me!

Who seduced the rule of the Under Well?

Me!"

The louder Attila's voice got, the more active the masses of Unseen became.

"And who killed a giant worm that was about to eat everyone?

Oh yeah.

ME!"

He finally managed to pry up the belt and stumbled back.

"All you've done is get us all tossed in jail!"

Vel raised his hands, desperately trying to calm Attila.

"Lower your voice!"

"No!

You've been a negative Nancy since we first met!

I don't understand why.

Okay, so Trash-bot demolished some of your home.

But that wasn't my fault!"

He examined the belt, shrugged, and threw it over his shoulder.

"Okay, so it wasn't -completely- my fault.

But, you should be nicer to me!

Like your brother!"

Attila finally looked up at Vel to thrust an accusing finger at him.

The Unseen were now amassed in an impressive army of countless twisted rats and birds,

crawling and screeching towards them slowly.

Vel could handle the small ones, they would scatter once you've killed a few and showed

them you weren't spineless.

But it was what was creeping out from between a rack of dusty overcoats that worried him.

It had the overall shape of a large cat, with a long tail and four large pawed feet.

But the bones of the spine stuck out of it's gooey back, and it's head was on upside down.

Goo poured form it's mouth, nose, and it's eye sockets landing in puddles beneath it,

only to be absorbed back into it's body as it stepped in them.

It opened it's jaws, and began to flatten itself to the ground, circling them.

Hunting them.

Sheer panic over took him, and before he could stop himself, Vel blurted out a hasty apology.

"Okay, I get it.

I'm an ass.

I'm sorry.

Can we go now?"

Attila contemplated Vel's apology for a moment, weighing it's sincerity, before finally conceding.

"Fine, but first you have to admit my inventions aren't junk."

Vel felt that muscle spasm under his eye again.

"They're awesome and wonderful.

You're the frigging Tesla of our age.

Now lets go!," Vel urged in a whisper.

"What's taking so long!?," Errik asked, pushing his way past a beheaded mannequin.

"We really need to try and get to the gate before it gets-"

Vel silenced his brother by clamping his mechanical hand over his mouth.

They exchanged a look in silence, and Vel nodded slowly.

He gestured towards the register Attila was standing by.

Mistaking Vel's actions for a hug towards his brother, Attila abandoned his quest for

springy cord and was ready to bring it in.

his arms opened to embrace them.

Evan peered out from behind Errik, looking around at just what Vel was pointing to.

He couldn't see anything, but Vel was clearly stressed out about something.

Then he saw it.

An unmistakable paw print in a thick layer of dust.

And then another.

And then another and they were headed their way.

"Uh.

Guys...?"

"Run.," Vel urged, giving Errik and Evan a shove as he grabbed Attila by the poncho

and yanked him out the door as the inky jaguar pounced.

The spray can ballista fell to the ground and misfired, sending gouts of blue, green,

pink and orange in all direction.

The cat took a face full of teal and roared.

There was a sudden clamorous sound that rent the silence of the city.

The creatures gave way to the chase, scrambling over anything in their path, and bursting

out from the broken windows.

They spilled out into the streets, piling on top of one another in their attempts to

follow.

"What the heck is that!?," Attila called out, breaking into a run.

They clambered over bent street lights and broken vehicles trying to outrun the swarm

of brightly colored Unseen behind them.

They turned down a darkened alley, dodging a crumbled wall and ducking beneath a rusted

ladder before exiting out the other side.

Tucked away, safe from the collapsed buildings and showing only a few signs of damage, was

a grand structure built to last.

Stone construction, four stories high with the front engulfed by a giant plexiglass atrium.

The skull of a long forgotten reptile peered out at them from behind the grime covered

windows.

"Go!

In there!

Now!," Vel ordered, looking over his shoulder to see the inky cat prowling after them, the

swarm of Unseen following on it's heels.

They ran into museum, slamming the doors closed behind them.

Attila and Errik wedged a stone slab, covered in hieroglyphs, in front of the door.

They took an unsteady step back as the door gave a heavy shudder beneath the force of

the Unseen slamming themselves into it.

The weight of the slab held the door shut and the creature tried again, to no avail.

Evan slid a dusty mop through the door handles for good measure.

The whole first level had been entirely devoted to the atrium.

It was spacious, with what was once a gleaming tiles of sparkling granite.

The lobby had, at one time, housed a forest of trees.

They were now dead and rotted away from years of neglect, creating a cemetery of towering

ghosts.

Mingling among the ghosts, were the towering skeletons of long extinct animals, including

the large dinosaur dominating the room.

The atrium rose up two stories before curving back in, creating a half dome where the trees,

and the exhibit, would have gotten the most sun.

What little light could get through the dirt stained windows was suddenly blocked out as

swarms of Unseen began crawling and sliding around on the glass.

Bright streaks of paint cut across the panes as they tried desperately to get in, unable

to break through the barricade.

But the safety glass proved no easier.

They slid off the slick surface, piling on top of one another at the base of the atrium.

"Are we safe here?," Evan asked, his tiny hands fidgeting nervously over the handles

of his knives.

" 'cause I think there's more of 'em showin' up!

Look!"

Intermingled with the lines of color, claw marks and smudged grime were appearing out

of nowhere.

Vel could see hordes of Unseen starting to fall into the existing pool of creatures.

Some of the approaching forms dwarfed the feline.

"Sure...," Vel lied, looking around nervously.

"But, we should move further inside just in case."

Even if the front of the building held, it wouldn't take the Unseen long to find the

vents or any cracked windows or broken doors.

Hopefully they would give up before then.

The barricade gave another resounding thud.

"Whew.

Well, it could be worse!," Attila said, his voice showing no signs of panic.

He had his hands on his hips, looking up at the dinosaur like it was any other day at

a museum.

Vel watched a stream of dust drift down from the ceiling as the building gave an ominous

shudder.

He turned to glare at Attila, as the ground beneath them gave another unsettling rumble.

"I hate you, so much."

What started as a four chapter short story has now evolved into a full length novel with

over 20 chapters planned out already.

When Lesley isn't torturing poor Attila, or subjecting Vel to mental anguish, she loves

to draw, craft, and binge watch Netflix.

S. Korean military holds live-firing missile drill in response to N. Korea's nuke test - Duration: 1:32.
