This press conference
took place on the seventh of July
2014.
This man, Sergey Kurginyan,
Travelled to the so-called DPR (Donetsk People's Republic)
to
analyze the situation at hand and
also for a discussion with representatives of the armed forces of the separatists
Kurginyan is a
political activist and head of the "Суть времени"
(Formally "Суд времени")
movement.
His political positions have been described as ultra-nationalist
leftist, he has strong ties to the Kremlin and he is also a theatre director.
This man is Igor Bezler
He was, at the time of this press conference, the head of the separatist forces in Gorlovka.
This man is Yuriy Yurchenko, a poet and playwright.
And this man is Pavel Gubarev,
the so-called governor of the so-called DPR, although it should be noted that neither Bezler nor Gubarev
introduced themselves to Kurginyan, so in fact this is about the moment
where Kurginyan actually realized that he was talking to the so-called governor of the so-called DPR.
According to everyone in this press conference,
Kurginyan is representing "Russian Civil Society,"
but it has been argued that he might actually be representing the Kremlin.
And that's the subject of this video: the extent to which there are indications for that in this press conference
Now, Kurginyan makes it quite clear that he is representing Russian Civil Society and not the Russian state
Society´s interference is not the same thing as a government decision to send in the military. Those are absolutely
different things.
A military interference by the government, which I
support, but which is not happening, is the first scenario;
total passivity is the third scenario; and the second scenario is this kind
of support, which is being provided at the moment.
And by the way, am I the only one who finds that a bit suspicious that one person can apparently represent the entirety of
Russian Civil Society? I mean, "Civil Society" isn't even an organization. It's just the people.
Did they all get together and elect him or is he just saying "Civil Society" and meaning the Russian state?
If you watch the video you'll also notice that this whole assertion that he is
representing Russian civil society seems a little bit forced. He just throws it in there a couple of times
-like when he remembers about it-
And all the rest of the time, everyone is just speaking about "Russia." Even in this little forward which he
added on afterwards to the press conference before uploading it here on his channel-
The important thing is not
who
won [the argument during the press conference] and who lost,
the important thing is that Russia (!) doesn´t lose, and especially, that the common people do not lose.
Also, at one point in the press conference Yurchenko repeats a
criticism first voiced by
Strelkov-
...unvarnished, rather candid
reproaches towards the leadership of Russia, stating that
the promised support was not provided [by the leadership of Russia].
And you said that such statements (you did not mention Strelkov by name) are lies -This is literally your claim, I´m quoting you here-
The fact that we all reproach ourselves...
We had to look those old people who we left behind in the night in the eye...
-And I reproach myself-
But the responsibility, I think,
I am convinced, lies with the esteemed Russian regime [best translation I could find for "власть" in this context] - the responsibility for this --
a heavy responsibility- Kurginyan:"And you are not responsible at all, or what?" Yurchenko:"We?"
Okay, so that's basically all you should need to hear.
He's basically saying that
lack of support from the Russian regime is the reason that the separatists had to
retreat from Slaviansk.
(I don't think he says Slaviansk, but that's one of the subjects of this press conference - they've just retreated from Slavyansk.)
You should also have noticed two things.
The first thing is the fact that he is
repeating this accusation to Kurginyan at all, and the second is that
Kurginyan takes it so personally- you know, shooting back "and you are not responsible at all, or what?" That, to me, is
quite a strong indicator that Kurginyan
is actually representing the "Russian regime," that is, the Kremlin.
Also, have a look at what Yurchenko says right afterwards.
Kurginyan:"And why did you leave?"
Yurchenko:"...we left? I´ll explain it to you.
Here, these rusty machine guns- Thank you for them, but it is too little! We´re operating with hunting rifles..."
