Hi community of awesome, I'm Ava Jae and this is bookishpixie.
Since it's the last vlog of 2016, I thought I'd do a New Years resolution vlog because
it's about that time when people are thinking about resolutions, and I did one last year and
that worked out well, so let's do it.
The one thing I like to remind everyone about resolutions is to pick things that are completely within your control.
So rather than resolving to get published, for example, which has a bunch of things out
of your control, instead you may want to resolve to send out a certain number of query letters,
or to finish writing your manuscript, or finish revising, or get critique partners—things that are within your control.
So don't forget that.
Okay, so, my resolutions for 2017. Here we go.
First, read 70 books.
So this was actually my goal for this year, um, but as of this recording which is about
a week before you guys will actually see it, I'm up to 66 books.
So totally within the realm of possibility that I will read four books in the next two
weeks and meet my goal, but because this has been so challenging I'm not going to raise
it anymore; this seems to have been a good goal for me and I don't wanna stress myself
out about it, so I'm gonna stick with 70.
And 70 books is a lot, and I mean it's like seven times what my goal was maybe five years
ago so I'm perfectly happy with that.
Second, finish revising INTO THE BLACK.
So this is partial deadline and partial resolution because I really do actually have to finish
revising INTO THE BLACK, um, it's in my contract, but I'm really looking forward to more revisions.
I've already done partial revisions I am really proud of this book and where it's going, and
I can't wait to see what the revisions ahead of me will bring, and I'm super looking forward
to sharing it with you guys in the fall.
Third, first draft THE RISING GOLD.
So this is partial deadline and partial not.
I say partial because it's not actually in my contract that I need to first draft it
next year, but it *is* in my contract that I need to turn it in the year after, so I
will definitely be first drafting it next year so I don't stress myself out squeezing
it in the year after, and that's going to be kind of bittersweet because I will be finishing
my very first trilogy.
But it's something I'm looking forward to because it's really special, and should be fun.
Fourth, work on other projects.
So this is kind of a vague header because I [don't] really know exactly what projects
I'm going to work on next year; I know that I would like to revise at least one of the
projects that I first drafted, and I'd also like to first draft something new, but I don't
want to set anything into stone because I'm not 100% sure how I'm going to organize the
projects and what I'll work on first, second, third, et cetera, but the point is I would
definitely like to make some progress on my non-BEYOND THE RED projects.
So that should be fun.
Fifth, keep working out.
So last January I started working out with hand weights, and I was a little hesitant
to do so because in the past my autoimmune disease has forced me to stop working out—I
can't jog, for example—so that was a little scary but I did it anyway, decided to just
give it a try, and it has gone really, really well.
I'm really happy with the results to so far; I feel a lot better about myself, it's given
me more confidence, and it's also improved my posture, which is a great thing, so overall
super happy with that and definitely want to continue it.
And sixth, start working outside of my home office.
So for the longest time I've only been able to work in my home office because I have a
desktop and you can't really lug those around, but after saving up for ever and ever and
ever, I just recently got myself a laptop, which I am really excited about because I
can now work outside of my house.
I think it's actually going to help me a lot because it was feeling really isolating for
me to be stuck working at home all the time and not being able to work anywhere else,
so I think it'll help me emotionally a lot to be able to just get out and work where
I want to, and that should be nice.
So those are my New Years resolutions, and I wanna hear yours, so let me know what you're
resolving to do in 2017 in the comments below.
So that's what I've got for today!
If you liked what you saw, don't forget to subscribe and comment, and I'll see you guys in 2017.
Happy New Year!
