- The Wahoo Elemnt Bolt is new to the market,
so we thought we'd devise a challenge
to see what they, and us to be fair, could do.
- That's right.
And seeing as we have found ourselves
on the amazing cycling roads of Flanders, in Belgium,
we thought we would try and tackle
as many bergs and cobbles as we possible could,
in the shortest stretch of time,
starting right here
on Tour of Flanders street.
You ready?
- I think so.
- Go! - Let's go.
(upbeat techno music)
- [Simon] Okay, let's backtrack a bit, shall we?
The Elemnt Bolt is a GPS bike computer that works
in tandem with your smart phone,
meaning that set up and data transfer
both from the unit or from your phone,
are really straightforward.
We've plotted a route using the website Ride With GPS.
- [Matt] Hold on a minute, Si.
You say we.
You mean Lloydy did.
- [Simon] Yeah.
Yeah, Lloydy plotted a route because he knows the area
like the back of his hand,
and he laid down the challenge.
- [Matt] Yeah, so now we've got to tackle
13 of Flanders' toughest climbs in less than two hours.
So you can see why we're trying to get
a little bit of a move on.
Now Dan has shared his ride with us
and then because our Ride With GPS accounts are synced
with our Wahoo Element apps,
the ride automatically uploads
and then we just have to send it to the device
and follow turn-by-turn instructions.
- Yeah now up first, today, climb-wise
is the Knokteberg,
a relatively steady start, 1.3 Ks in length,
6% average gradient.
- Steady start?
- Kind of steady.
(upbeat techno music)
- Now coming up next,
we have the classic Flanders climb,
the Oude Kwaremont.
It has to be said, mate,
I've got a bit of a confession to make.
- Hm?
- So, I'm partial to the odd bit of Strava.
I've actually starred the segment coming up
and that'll mean that all the details
have automatically downloaded to the Element Bolt,
so it's telling me that we're about to start it
in 182 meters,
and when we're on it,
it's going to tell us exactly how we're doing
in relation to the KOM.
So I thought,
with all that in mind,
we might as well just have a pop at it.
- You mean tackle the Oude Kwaremont KOM
and try and beat Niki Terpstra
and Greg Van Avermaet's time?
- Yeah, exactly!
- Go on then.
- Yeah! Come on then!
43 meters to go.
(dramatic techno music)
- Come on, Si.
- I'd forgotten how hard these are.
(dramatic techno music)
- How did you do, Si?
- Let's not talk about it, mate.
- Oh, well, okay then,
let's think of that as a bit of a warm up.
- Yeah, I've done it for the Koppenberg as well,
that's coming up.
- I like that one.
- All right, let's do it. - Okay.
(upbeat techno music)
- Yeah, they come thick and fast,
these bergs, don't they?
- Yeah, short, not very sweet.
- [Simon] Kind of sweet.
- [Matt] Sweet when you watch them on telly.
Although, there's a real strange sense of satisfaction
as you tick each one off.
(techno music)
- Hey, that's it mate, puncture.
Matt, puncture.
- Stefan, have you seen Si?
- No. - I'll just check where he is,
on the map.
(unit beeps)
Oh, he's halfway down the Haaghoek.
I'll send him a text.
(pump clacking)
(Bolt notification tweets)
- Matt Stephens.
Where are you?
You numpty!
Uh, knew I should have turned off notifications.
(upbeat music)
- Right then, Si.
That was the start line
for the final climb of the day,
the Berendries.
I'll bet you've got this one starred as well.
- I have actually, mate.
Do you want to give me a lead out?
- No. - Right, 'spose I owe you one.
Do you want me to lead you out?
- Go on, mate.
- Fair enough.
Last climb of the day.
Let's give it everything.
(upbeat music)
- [Matt] So, there you go.
Well, I've lost count of the amount of climbs
Hellingen we've gone up today,
but there's no doubt about it,
that was the most action packed 60 kilometers
you could ever hope for.
- That's absolutely right.
That was brilliant, wasn't it?
- Yep. - Absolutely brilliant.
Anyway, having pressed stop on our Element Bolt,
the stats will automatically have uploaded
to our phones, and then onto any other app
that you authorize your Element to share it with,
so like Map My Ride or Strava, for example.
Which reminds me, Matt.
Did you get the get the Berendries KOM?
You mean, did I beat the time of Greg Van Avermaet?
- Yeah, did you beat Greg?
- Well, not on this occasion, no.
- Ugh... - Well, let's take a look
at another important function,
considering I'm completely and utterly knackered.
The Take Me Anywhere function. - Yes.
- Type in, beers.
- Take Me Anywhere, okay.
- Is there a bar nearby?
- There is.
Funnily enough, there is a bar nearby, actually?
- Should we head off then?
- Well, anyway.
I don't want to go back down the Berendries.
I'll find another one.
- Let's go that way.
- Do you know what's weird, Matt?
Is that we went for a two-hour ride,
and we started pretty much at dawn,
and it's now getting dark.
- It's got a little bit nippy
and the sun is pretty much set.
That's really odd.
- That is weird.
