This time, I am going to give you a
different type of video. This is about a
prime minister of a king who turned into
a monk and embraced celibacy. It's a
great learning for everyone. That's why I
just translated this poem from Tamil to
English. What happened was, the Prime
Minister was met by Lord Shiva himself,
who after a brief initiation got into
divine bliss, incredible bliss. But then
it did not last because he went back to
his old ways of life -- of woman, wine and
partying. And then he felt sorry, after a
while, for rejecting God and then getting
back to a life of the senses.
And he regretted it and then he composed
this fantastic poem which I have
translated for you into English. And then,
I will also read the Tamil later on for
those people who can understand Tamil.
Now, first the English transubstantiation.
It's not a translation. There is an
adaptation of some sort.
"You reached me." Let me start from the
beginning. "You reached out to me, but I
rejected you, Shiva. How ignorant I have
been to your Grace.
Your Grace could have given me heaven
and earth. Now you left me.
I am abandoned. My Karma victimized me.
Sever my karmic junk, my Lord, And
enslave me. Being God's slave is all the
freedom. It's in the practice of the
dog's owner to forgive his disobedient dog." [end transubstantiation]
This is the English. And I'm going to read
the Tamil for those who can understand
Tamil. [Sings in Tamil:]
He cannot bring out the spirit
of the original into the translation. That's why I read the
