ALMOST TWO DAYS. 2-ROBERT: A
STAPLE IN THE WIMBERLEY
COMMUNITY IS A COMPLETE LOSS
AFTER A LATE NIGHT FIRE ON THE
DOWNTOWN SQUARE.2-SHANNON: THE
CYPRESS CREEK CAé WAS
BUILT IN 1937â| A BIG
TOURIST DESTINATION YOU MAY
HAVE VISITED OVER THE YEARS.
INVESTIGATIONS BELIEVE THE
FIRE STARTED IN THE KITCHEN,
BUT HAVEN'T RELEASED MUCH
ELSE. KXAN'S LAUREN LANMON
JOINS US LIVE WITH HOW THE
COMMUNITY IS DEALING WITH THIS
LOSS.
ALL AFTERNOON LOCALS HAVE BEEN
WALKING BY SOME TAKING
PICTURES AND OTHERS JUST
LOOKING AT THE CHARRED CAé
SHAKING THEIR HEADS. THIS WAS
SOMETHING THAT REALLY MEANT A
LOT TO THE PEOPLE IN THIS
SMALL COMMUNITY WHO NOW SAY
THEY WILL PULL TOGETHER TO
HELP THE FAMILY AS MUCH AS
POSSIBLE. JANICE DANEMAN,
WIMBERLEY RESIDENT: "THEY WILL
BE SORELY MISSED FOR AS LONG
AS THEY ARE REBUILDING,"IN A
SMALL TOWN, IT ONLY TAKES ONE
BUILDING TO BRING EVERYONE
TOGETHER. JANICE DANEMAN,
WIMBERLEY RESIDENT: "IT DOES
FEEL LIKE OUR HOME AWAY FROM
OUR HOME,"IN WIMBERLEYâ|
THAT BUILDING WAS CYPRESS
CREEK CAé. CHRISTY
DEGENHART, ACE HARDWARE OWNER:
"WE'VE HAD BREAKFASTS AND
LUNCHES AND I'VE HAD CHRISTMAS
PARTIES THERE, IT'S JUST BEEN
PART OF MY LIFE FOR OVER HALF
MY LIFETIME,"EARLY TUESDAY
MORNING THE CAé BURST INTO
FLAMES, THE OWNERS LIVING ON
THE SECOND FLOOR NARROWLY
ESCAPED. IT'S A TOTAL LOSS,
750-THOUSAND DOLLARS WORTH OF
DAMAGES. AND AS THE WIMBERLEY
COMMUNITY WOKE UP TO THE
NEWSâ| THEY DIDN'T JUST SIT
BY, THEY IMMEDIATELY STARTED
DONATING AND GATHERING
SUPPLIES. JANICE DANEMAN,
WIMBERLEY RESIDENT: "I KNOW
ALL OF US WILL HELP THEM
REBUILD THEIR LIVES AT CYPRESS
CREEK,"JANICE DANEMAN SAYS
SHE'S HELPING BECAUSE THE CAÃ
© SERVED AS SAFE GROUND FOR
THE COMMUNITY DURING THE 2015
FLOOD. OTHERS ARE PITCHING IN
BECAUSE THEY TOO HAVE LOST A
BUSINESS IN WIMBERLEY TO A
FIRE. CHRISTY DEGENHART, ACE
HARDWARE OWNER : "WE REBUILT,
IT TOOK US A YEAR AND IT WAS A
VERY DIFFICULT YEAR AND WE
KNOW WHAT TRISH AND RANDY HAVE
AHEAD OF TRISH AND RANDY HAVE
AHEAD OF THEM,"THROUGH IT ALL
THE CITY SAYS THEY ARE A
FAMILYâ|AND WILL DO
EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO RESTORE
THE PLACE THAT WAS MORE THAN
JUST A CAé. CHRISTY
DEGENHART, ACE HARDWARE OWNER:
"WHEN THERE'S A DIRE NEED,
EVERYBODY COMES TOGETHER AND
THAT'S WHAT WIMBERLEY IS."
