Chelsea confirm Bournemouth have signed £10m Goalkeeper

On Tuesday, Chelsea confirmed the sale of Asmir Begovic to Bournemouth for a fee reported to be around £10m.

Its a deal that has been in the pipeline since last January. But for Celtics insistence that Craig Gordon would not be allowed to speak with Chelsea, Asmir Begovic would have already signed for Eddie Howes south coast side.

As with any transfer deal, there is two sides to the story. From the Chelsea point of view, the statement released on the Official Website stated as follows:.

Asmir Begovic will join Bournemouth in a permanent transfer on 1 July. The Bosnian international goalkeeper departs Stamford Bridge following two seasons at the club having signed from Stoke City in the summer of 2015.

The 29-year-olds professional attitude, friendly nature and ability to perform when called upon made him a popular figure with Chelsea fans, team-mates and staff.

Begovic made his debut as a substitute on the opening day of last season before a sustained period in the side following injury to Thibaut Courtois.

During that time, he made his Champions League debut, and was in goal towards the end of the campaign too.

This season, Begovic appeared in domestic cup action, starting all three of our matches in the EFL Cup as well as the FA Cup third, fourth and fifth rounds.

His final game for the club was the recent 4-3 victory against Watford, three days after we had wrapped up the Premier League title away at West Bromwich Albion.

In total, Begovic made 33 appearances for the Blues, keeping 10 clean sheets. We thank Asmir for his contribution over the past two years and wish him well in his future career.

Its a fair statement and does pay tribute to the man who stepped in when required but as time move on with a total lack of playing time, we began to see that he was not the man to challenge Thibaut Courtois for a regular start under Antonio Conte.

Having signed Begovic for £8m in the summer of 2015, to make a £2m profit on the 29-year-old who, without question, will be fantastic for Bournemouth is a good deal all round.

On the flip side, the Bournemouth perspective is as follows on their Official site with a quote from Eddie Howe:.

Asmir is an outstanding goalkeeper who has proved himself capable of performing at the highest level over a number of years.

He is at the right age and the right fit. He is a leader as well and exactly the kind of character you want in the team.

Asmir will provide great competition to the excellent group of goalkeepers we already have here and his experience will prove invaluable in the dressing room and on the pitch.

I look forward to him being a very important player here for years to come.
