Elgato HD60 S vs. Atomos Ninja 2 - Game Capture Showdown - Old and New 720p60 vs. 1080p60 - Duration: 6:55.

In the days before the market growth of "gaming capture cards," us YouTubers had to be VERY

creative about how we captured gameplay for YouTube.

Really early in the YouTube days, us without money had to hook our game consoles up to

a VCR and record to tape, then convert to DVD and then rip to PC.

Fast forward, and we had to get very creative about adapting old professional video equipment

for recording out game consoles.

The Black Magic Intensity Pro was never intended to record video games, but it did a decent

job.

Nowadays, we have an entire market of gaming capture cards.

But your beginner YouTuber may still not be able to afford such devices.

As I try to cover frequently on my channel, buying older used electronics is almost always

an easier route than finding a hidden way to afford the expensive stuff.

So what if you had access to non-gaming production gear?

From a colleague, family member, auction lot?

Many electronics can be obtained for super cheap from auctions and used sales.

I'm EposVox, here to make tech easier and more fun today comparing the video recording

quality of the Elgato capture cards - namely the HD60 Pro and the HD60 S - and the Atomos

Ninja 2 professional video recorder.

The Ninja 2 records video to a very high bitrate ProRes video format, but at a maximum of 720p

60FPS.

The Elgato cards record a 1080p 60FPS video feed a much more lossy H264 format.

My question was whether or not the ProRes files - with MUCH higher bitrate and better

color information - could create higher-quality game footage files than the super lossy recordings

from gaming capture cards.

So grabbed my PS4 out of my gaming setup, and recorded a match in Rocket League and

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.

These games support theater mode replays, which means I can record the exact same match

and conditions at 720p with the Ninja 2 and 1080p with the Elgato.

How did the two systems compare?

The answers kinda surprised me.

First, we've been looking at a comparison on Rocket League, split vertically down the

middle.

The Ninja 2 is one side, and the Elgato is the other.

Can you spot a difference?

I was quite surprised as to how well it held up, even splitting over to a horizontal split.

They record frame times slightly differently, so there is a bit of mis-alignment, but it's

hard to truly tell which is which.

Let's flip on over to Black Ops 3 for a moment, again, vertical down the middle.

And horizontal.

Keep in mind these are un-touched, un-edited other than scaling the Ninja footage from

720p up to 1080p.

For the last blind test, here's one device by itself….

Spotting differences is one thing, but can you really tell which is which?

YouTube compression trashes footage, so this helps show that you can compete with the "big

leagues" in video quality, even without the "normal" gear.

Plus, you can render to higher bitrates from the ProRes files than with Elgato's file.

The higher bitrate you give to YouTube, the better your end result can look, as long as

you don't surpass your recorded bitrate.

So let's jump into the details for a moment.

Zooming in on the Black Ops 3 HUD, you start to see where the 720p resolution becomes a

serious limiting factor in the video's quality.

The Elgato's HUD stays just a little sharper around text and the icon when zoomed in.

Not only that, but there's some seriously-distracting chromatic aberration-looking distortion that

occurs around the text on the Ninja 2 recording once you zoom in enough.

Zooming in on the gun, the logo is a little blurrier and has a lot more jaggies on the

720p Ninja recording, whereas the on the 1080p Elgato copy it is most smoothed out and clearer.

Gun textures are just ever so slightly clearer on the Elgato, as well.

Zooming in on a specific texture here, you can't really tell any difference.

Black Ops 3 uses dynamic resolution scaling that changes on the fly to keep performance

smooth, and textures wind up looking the same on both recorders.

Jumping back to Rocket League, the HUD is quite a bit sharper, though more jagged, on

the Elgato recording at 1080p.

The same applies to the car.

Sharper, but more jagged.

However when in motion, certain aspects don't stand out as much at 1080p, like the spikes

on the wheels.

Textures actually get more blurred at 1080p in Rocket League, so the deeper color information

provided actually gives a sharper-looking image for many aspects of the game while recorded

to the Ninja 2.

If we zoom in on the goal, the Elgato's recording has a much more jagged look, which

does not compress well at all.

So the Ninja recording isn't quite as sharp, but looks overall much better.

Live action camera footage can be a lot easier to scale than computer-generated game footage,

so the 720p limitation of the Ninja almost outweighs the benefit of higher bitrate and

deeper color information.

But once you run it through YouTube compression, it's more than usable as a proper gaming

capture device, without needing a computer to do the recording - just a 2.5" hard drive

or SSD.

I just wanted to experiment and play around.

I expected the Ninja 2 to look much better upscaled, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Repair and Refresh 29 Year Old METABO Drill - Duration: 10:15.

Chuck hasn't been used a long time.

I connected a temporary wire to see if the drill is working.

IT WORKS!

However, perhaps not; /

The switch was very dirty.

So I cleaned all the places of contact.

I re-glued with epoxy.

Problem solved :)

When I was sure the drill would work, I started to clean it.

The brushes were in good condition, so I did not replace them.

Drill is from 1988, I forgot to capture the marking.

Chuck will be repaired later.

All elements cleaned (as much as I could).

I use grease for bearings and gears.

Everything works very well :)

Me and my boyfriend are going to meet in Hongdae

which is a place that I recommended you to visit in Korea

I know I really had to bring my camera

But I was in a hurry

So I just brought my cell phone, I forgot to bring my camera

So right now I'm waiting for the bus here, it's a bus stop in Korea

And it'll come in 8 minutes I guess :D

In almost every bus stop in Korea, it has a screen like this

It actually reflects me because of the light

But it shows the bus number and how many minutes left until my bus is coming

Britain's biggest warship HMS Queen Elizabeth is set to sail under Forth Bridge - Duration: 9:55.

After nearly a decade of construction, Britain's biggest ever warship will set sail for the

first time today - with the Russians watching - in a historic moment for the Royal Navy.

Weighing 65,000 tonnes and measuring 280-metres long, it is so large its captain yesterday

described it as the UK's new 'sea base' - which will take the fight to any adversaries across

the globe.

But before the £3.1billion aircraft carrier can start policing the seas, it has to successfully

navigate out of its Scottish dockyard without clashing with its first enemy - a bridge.

All eyes today will be on Chief Petty Officer Andrew Vercoe as he steers HMS Queen Elizabeth

out of the dock at Rosyth and into the North Sea in a nerve-racking ten-hour operation.

With the aid of 11 tug boats and two pilots on the shore, the state-of-the art new 'national

symbol' will have to squeeze out of the basin with just 14 inches to spare on each side.

Then the 733-strong crew will have to wait for a low tide and the perfect wind conditions

before it passes under three bridges in the River Forth in a process that has been simulated

some 30 times.

As the carrier approaches Forth Bridge, which has stood between the dockyard and the open

seas for 127 years, Commodore Jerry Kyd will get out a sextant navigation tool used in

the 18th century.

Then, with the captain's approval, the ship - with its hi-tech radar atop its mast bent

at 60 degrees - should, hopefully, sail under the bridge with just 2 metres to spare.

Pedestrians will be cleared from the bridge in advance, just in case.

Speaking about the first mission, the navigating officer, Lieutenant Commander Jeremy Brettell,

said: 'We have got pilots, we have got tugs, and we have spent a lot of time simulating

this.

'When I do this for the first time it should fit pretty good.

Everyone onboard is really excited, we want to get out there and do the job at sea.'

Navy chiefs expect it to be shadowed on its maiden voyage by Russian submarines, which

have been spotted off the coast of Scotland previously.

Commodore Jerry Kyd, Captain of the carrier, said the Russians will be watching as the

aircraft carrier sets off for sea trials.

He said: 'You can't have a ship of this scale and this strategic nature not to attract interest

from all sorts of avenues, particularly potential enemies, and they'll be watching with interest

I'm sure, as we watch them.'

It is feared they will attempt to record the unique sound it makes underwater, known as

its acoustic signature.

They may also be joined by spy ships from a Russian base on the Baltic Sea and by Tupolev

Tu-214R spy planes that could record its 'radar cross-section', or how it appears when detected

by radar.

Its acoustic signature and radar and are details Moscow would need to track it or target it

at a later date.

The carrier will have Merlin anti-submarine helicopters from 820 Naval Air Squadron onboard

which will fly out if it is suspected that Russian submarines are nearby.

Cdre Kyd downplayed any suggestion Moscow was a threat, saying: 'When we sail this ship

we will come under the interest of many groups both inshore and offshore.

'If that offshore someone is a state actor, then we have proper procedures and assets

in place, obviously sufficient to ensure we have full protection of the carrier.

'I'm not worried in that, it's tried and tested, whether it's an aircraft or another ship coming

close to us we will deal with it as necessary.'

After the sea trials, it will head down to Portsmouth where it will handed over to the

Royal Navy.

It will take onboard the most advanced stealth fighter jet in the world - the F-35B Lightening

II jet and will be protected by a frigate and a destroyer to deter Russian ships from

getting too close.

The carrier will likely deploy to the Gulf first, where warplanes could take out jihadists

and Royal Marines could be dropped on the beaches.

As the F-35 jet bombs bunkers and hideouts on land, the carrier could use its radar to

tack objects the size of snooker balls 20km away, send drones to spy on the enemy, and

can fire its machine guns at 6,000 rounds per minute.

The carrier, along with its sister ship HMS Prince of Wales, is part of a £6.2billion

project to make the UK help other nations 'police the world', senior naval officers

have said.

It is expected to be the backbone of Allied air power for the next 50 years.

The first seagoing Captain of the ship, Cdre Kyd, said the carrier was a 'national symbol'

and was a 'strategic necessity' that will enable Britain to pack a 'serious punch'.

He said: 'You look at all the premier nations around the world and why is it that every

nation in the top tier are investing billions of dollars in aircraft carriers?

'The reason being is they provide the government, very simply, with an incredibly flexible tool

that is not just about war fighting.

'This is about deterrence, coercion, political signalling and providing a huge sea base - don't

forget it is not a ship - it is a sea base.'

He said it was a base for disaster relief, humanitarian assistance, defence engagement

and selling British industry abroad.

'It is a fantastic backdrop to all that is good about the country and this is why it

is national symbol, and not just military power projection, but also about British ambition,

about being a globally outward facing country', he added.

HMS Queen Elizabeth, the second ship to be named after the Queen, can fit up to 36 Lightning

II aircraft.

But Britain will have only have 24 F-35s to fly off HMS Queen Elizabeth when it enters

service in 2020.

This has led to claims that when the second carrier comes into service 18 months later

it would be a 'gigantic white elephant' - with no UK assets to fly off it.

By 2023, the Ministry of Defence has committed to having 42 of the jets in service - which

will be tasked with obliterating UK enemies with laser-guided missiles and bombs.

As a result, the US will fly off the carrier with their aircraft - as may other countries

such as Italy who eventually buy the jets.

There is even a US flag flying in the operational room of the ship.

Asked about concerns the carrier will be a 'white elephant', Cdre Kyd said: 'It would

seem odd, as a maritime island nation not to have a Royal Navy that could do that job

for you, so the investment in these aircraft carriers for me is logical, is rock solid

and a strategic necessity.'

He added: 'If push comes to shove and you have to go and sail somewhere where you haven't

got land based aircraft, like the Falklands in 1982, what are you going to do?

'Just leave and give up?

Is that the solution for the Government?

'No, these assets are being bought to give a global presence and a serious punch anywhere

you want.

I think it is a pretty good investment.'

Quizzed about the military budget, he said: 'There is no point having a hollow carrier

strike group force, it has to look good be trained and integrated with all those force

elements.'

He warned: 'Every department in government has to live within its means and we will have

to take some judgements I imagine in the future.'

The last time Britain had an aircraft carrier was in 2014, when HMS Illustrious was decommissioned

and then sold for £2million leaving a huge gap in defence.

HMS Illustrious defended the UK for 32 years but is currently being dismantled in a Turkish

scrapyard and being made into pots and pans.

Cdre Kyd was the commanding officer of the carrier, known as Lusty.
