Civiltop Air Unboxing & Hands-On - 12.5" Thin And Light Celeron N3450 Laptop - Duration: 12:31.

hi guys Chris here with the civil top air now this is a new brand for me and

this particular laptop is powered by the Celeron N3450 gigabytes of ram 128

gigabytes of SSD storage and it is very thin super light it weighs just over a

kilo so a very portable machine but it has a definite deal-breaker for a lot of

people and that is it only has on the side here a USB 3.1 type C port and then

a 3.5 millimeter headphone jack on the right of it so if you want source side

port then this clearly is in the model for you but what it does have is

fingerprint security super portable a full metal build and a 1080p 12.5 inch

screen so let's have a look at it now in greater detail this one I picked up from

Gearbest now I also believe that this is also the under Xiaoma 21 which is very

similar model but that one has full sized USB port on it so the notebook

here comes in only gold unfortunately I would have preferred a silver version we

have a user manual that is in English and yes they have included and adapters

we're going to need this of course because this is all full-size USB 3 HDMI

and then the type C for charging because this has only one type C port on it type

C to type-c cable and the charger here 2 prong I think it's - yeah two prong us

store that just flicks out and it is rated to 12 volts 2 amps so the main

attraction of this notebook is its weight and they claim it weighs just

over 1.4 and it is one point zero eight kilos which is really light okay so very

light very thin and an all-metal design and not a lot here to show you port wise

this is the breaker for many it doesn't even have a

microSD card slot on it which I feel is a bit of a design error so just the type

C port on here and a status LED on the left side on the back we do point some

plastic here this is for the wireless AC antenna reception and Bluetooth and on

the right side they have at least included a 3.5 millimeter headphone jack

that supports microphones now that you can see if it can be opened up with just

one hand not quite and that's as far as the lid will go back because the top of

it the bottom so those would say is actually touching right here so why go

back any further because the feet aren't high enough just to give you idea how

super synthesis you can see their side on but yet it is really really thin I'm

going to measure it comes in at seven point seven millimeters there now with

the lid this is the thickest part around here I think it's around 12 millimeters

so very thin so it's got a pre applied protector on the palm wrist which is

made all out of metal the keyboard pressing down hard here seems to be

quite firm key feel good good travel to them so get this removed and they have

actually put some stickers on there that we don't often see on the Palmer s time

counselor I'm a fan of that and at the top there's also a screen

protector and along the front here we have two microphones either side of the

front-facing 2-megapixel webcam the screen looks glossy to me but I'm not

too sure until I pull off the screen protector here that's on there and yes

it is a glossy display actually it's not a glossy display I can see underneath

it's a matte display this is a screen protector and I just pulled off the top

layer right because there are a couple little specks of dust along here so you

can decide whether you want glossy or matte just by removing the protector

that's on the screen and inside the touch pad here we do have a fingerprint

reader there for fingerprint security so you can use Windows hello to unlock that

by just placing your scanned finger on top of it and it

should unlock straightaway time to power it on now the power button location is

in a bit of an awkward position and it's not any more resistant than the other

button so it could accidentally be tapped

now there's a way around us of course that in Windows settings you can set the

power button to actually do nothing so powered up really quick it came up with

administrator account that someone has already created which isn't a good sign

so normal would probably go back and do a full factory reset just to be safe but

I think it's just because someone's gone and set it up and check for fault

possibly gear bears that have done this so first look at the screen I've got at

100% brightness at the moment and the viewing angles and everything seem okay

I'll show you those in just a second but that is the brightness at zero percent

which is very dim which is going to make it ideal for using late at night with

absolutely no lights on twenty-five percent fifty seventy-five and then back

on to 100 D which seems to be brighter now so you can see that it has decent

viewing angles definitely an IPS panel doesn't shift out either like those team

panels do to me it looks just like the same screen that I've seen on the show

me me notebook err the 12.5 inch version so just a couple of things here to point

out in the device manager the SSD 128 gigabytes no idea what brand it is first

I thought it was going to come with an emmc 128 gigabyte one but it's good to

see the views in SSD our benchmark that later on in the review and we do have

the same Intel dual band wireless AC the three 165 chipset that I've seen in many

other devices very common and it does perform quite well now there is a

problem here with the eland fingerprint reader that's for the added security

that's built into the touchpad here of course for some reason it looks like

this is not going to be working at the moment doesn't have the drivers

installed properly there so I'm going to have to try and solution that and fix

that find a solution I should say but you should never have to do this when

you get a new device have a problem straight away so I'm not good to see

this so just testing out the keyboard here it actually seems fairly decent

a lot better than the vo v book version three that I've just recently looked at

we had the boys keyboard and the world this one feels really good there's like

no flex on that refirm decent feedback from the individual tees they're good

travel now there's some good news about the touchpad it is detected in Windows

settings as a precision touchpad so what this means is we're able to disable

those gestures but got full control over it the accuracy of it and the speed

seems good so the finer movements and quite accurate we do have incorporated

left and right mouse buttons in there so it's not just only gestures it's not one

of those horrible trade plans like that but overall so far so good we're able to

close things down no problems I do feel that it said touch pad that I'm going to

be able to use without having to resort to plugging in a mouse which is great

because remember this only has one port on it so we don't want to be losing one

of those ports or having to using the depth of should I say on the type C port

just to use a mouse okay so I've just struck a rather major issue here with

the CD key they've used it says here that Windows is activated using your

organization's activation service and telling me I need

to change the product key which is crazy this is a brand new laptops or wine

earth do I have to supply it or buy my own key here this is really bad that

should not be happening at all

so while I can't see where the speakers are their internal ones is no speaker

girl whatsoever on the bottom of it you can hear from that that they've got a

bit of volume to them they sound alright there is a tiny hint of bass some meds

and a bit of treble there so the speakers aren't the worst I've heard on

these laptops out of China have a one terabyte hard drive here and my type C

adaptors so I'm going to check and see if it's going to be out of power that's

Drive take we hit the confirmation beep there from Windows and yes that is

working which is great to see that it can power external hard drives now that

included a depth only gives us one full size USB 3 port but you can of course

use other ones for example let's have it one that I've got there has three USB 3

ports there so one on this side full SD card reader one USB port there and then

another and of course in the type C and therefore charging and full size HDMI

now I did check this out I went over to my 4k monitor plugged it in it worked

but I'm only getting 30 Hertz that's all it does that's all the Apollo Lake can

do so 4k 30 Hertz maximum output and yes data and charging at the same time

everything was working so it is possible to use this just like a 1 port dock you

can have it all connected up to a monitor have your keyboard connected

your printer and other things and to simply go along plug it in it will

charge and can't you up to everything and for those of you who want to see if

it's going to run Linux this is then expand djaro

r17 and everything is working so far that I can see so things like brightness

that's find the audio is working but what isn't working

apart from all of that is the touchpad so touch pad driver problems there

you'll have to hunt around and find a solution for that Wireless is working I

don't know whether it will install on to the hard drive

I haven't got to that point yet ok so not exactly off to a good start here

with the civil top here the fact that I need to supply my arm or Windows 10 Pro

key to upgrade it or a Windows 10 home key I feel

is inacceptable why should this be happening when this is a brand-new

laptop so there used a forged key or some other key and really it's just not

on the other thing is there's a problem with the drivers for the eland

fingerprint reader there I need to find out and hunt around hopefully Windows

Update will have those drivers to fix that but besides that and the obvious

con that we don't have full-size ports on here or a micro SD card reader they

were going to have to use that adapter they've given us in the box at least

which means that's another hassle to always like that around besides that

it's really like really thin as you've seen super portable now the keyboard

does feel quite good to type on happy with that and the book one of the

overall is really quite good decent 12.5 inch screen the touchpad supports

gestures and we've got full control over because it is detected as a precision

touchpad with the correct drivers on there everything so if you don't like

the swipe up and down minimize you can go and disable that you've got full

control there and it feels accurate and fast so that is really good so at this

point it's really hard to recommend this because it's expensive

now the under shoulder 21 could be better than this because you got the

full size ports and this basic build and as mentioned I think it could be the

same ODM so the same guys that are making this and of course it's just

being rebadged under onder's name or civil tops name so if I do decide that

this makes the cut for the final review I will of course go of things like

battery life benchmarks gaming performance and check out just how fast

at 128 gigabyte SSD is thanks a lot for making it this far in the review and

Soap with round confetti. How to make round molds. Soap making. - Duration: 5:51.

Hello everyone! We begin with the creation of round molds. From the plastic cup, cut out the plate, roll it into a tube and attach it with a adhesive tape.

The idea for fans of soap "Galaxy".. These molds can be used to make the "planets"))

With a small amount of soap base, we glue the molds to the surface.

When the soap hardens, you need to cut the adhesive tape and take out ready sticks.

With a knife or a wet napkin smooth the surface if needed.

Sprinkle the sticks with alcohol and fill them with a warm soap base, so that they do not melt.

We put the finished soap back into the mold so that the circles are on the sides, not at the bottom or the top.

From the colored lefovers cut confetti.

To prevent the second layer spill over the edges, first pour a little amount of soap base around it.

I added glitter to this layer.

Decorate the surface of the hardened layer with confetti and fix them with the remaining blue base.

DST Ancient Fuelweaver Solo Speedrun Kill on day 25 (3:18:16) - no cheese - Don't Starve Together - Duration: 3:39:05.

The World of Don't Starve...

Our characters are sort of just plopped in this land without any context of where they are or what this place is

But there appears to be quite a rich history to this world.

And we can find traces of this history beneath the ground

where there are remnants of an ancient civilization.

Based on various clues, we know that the inhabitants of this civilization were something akin to arthropods.

Sort of like the modern day rock lobsters.

Perhaps they share a common ancestor.

We also know that, one day, these ancient arthropods stumbled upon a mysterious material that we now call nightmare fuel.

And they used it to build a vast, technologically advanced city.

But overuse of this nightmare fuel may have led to their downfall.

This appears to be the heart of their city. The aptly named atrium of the ruins.

Where you will find the ancient gateway.

I'm not sure what came out of this thing, but I don't think it was anything good.

If you've ever mined anything in the caves, you might have discovered some curious fossils.

If you assemble the fossils into a skeleton...

and give it a heart, it reanimates itself.

On the surface, this reanimated skeleton is docile and helpful, leaving ferns and lightbulbs in its wake.

But as it gets closer to the ancient gateway, it becomes more sinister.

More coherent.

And more powerful.

This is the ancient fuelweaver.

It has 16,000 health.

It deals 100 unarmored damage.

And it has an insanity aura equal to deerclops, or minus 400 sanity per minute.

Periodically, unseen hands are spawned around the atrium which can only be seen and attacked if you're insane.

and they must be attacked because while they're up the Fuelweaver has an impenetrable forcefield around it.

Being insane has a cost though

besides the inevitable shadow creatures that will spawn, the Fuelweaver has an attack that completely immobilizes insane players for almost 4 seconds

and those are 4 valuable seconds in this high-paced battle where you can lose all of your progress in an instant while the Fuelweaver gobbles up its dozens of woven shadows

3 at a time.

Each one healing 400 health points!

The Ancient Fuelweaver also imobilizes you, whether insane or not, with a little enclosure of bones.

It also spawns bones from the ceiling, which, ya know, great. Bones coming at you from all directions. Why not.

The pace of this fight is fast.

You don't have much time, if any, to dish out damage to the big guy before it spawns unseen hands or woven shadows, or both.

And when woven shadows are out and about, you're really going to want to kill them before the fuelweaver gets its grubby mitts on 'em.

First off I have to give a huge hand to the devs. This is amazingly creative boss design and lore. Great job guys.

There's just SO much to the ancient fuelweaver in terms of mechanics and lore, but even the substantial amount of hoops you have to jump through simply to get the fight up and running requires a great deal of explanation.

In fact, the hoops are what initially prevented me from considering a fuelweaver speedrun, because one of them sets a hard limit of 22 days on the run.

But then I realized there's so much to do that it'll take at least 22 days to accomplish everything I need to do anyway.

In my past runs, I sort of assume that everyone who watches my videos goes into them already with a pretty good understanding of what's going on

but I receive comments all the time that indicate that some people are... a little confused.

So because I want everyone to be on the same page, and because there's so much compexity to this run, this is going to be quite a lengthy introduction.

But I do think and hope that it'll be insightful and interesting.

If you'd like to skip ahead to the speedrun, I've placed a bunch of timestamps to highlights of the run in the video description.

I figured that'd be helpful since this is a really long video.

Okay. First let's talk about the fight itself.

I think the Ancient Fuelweaver is one of the hardest bosses to solo.

I wouldn't put him at the top, though.

In my opinion, enraged Klaus is by far the most difficult boss in the game.

Enraged Klaus is overpowered to a preposterous degree.

but that's sort of an unfair comparison.

Like I said in my enraged Klaus speedrun, I don't think the devs even attempted to balance Klaus' enraged form.

I suspect it just exists to deter people from killing the gem deer.

As far as bosses the developers actually expect you to fight, the Ancient Fuelweaver is definitely at the top of the heap, and probably requires the most skill to defeat by yourself.

Of course, obviously, as any fool can plainly see... (any Groo fans?)

the difficulty is tied directly to the gear that you have, and the strategy that you employ.

I'm not, in principle, opposed to cheap or cheesy strategies depending on the style of gameplay

like say if it's a side attraction or a demonstration of some interesting exploit, then hell yeah. I think that's awesome, and I want to see more of that.

But not for the main event, at least not for this sort of video, at least not personally.

All of that build up, leading to the culmination of the final fight where I... hide in a bush or hold the attack key?

If a paperweight can do something, I'm not sure it's worth making a video focused around it as if it's some impressive feat.

I care more about the main event being entertaining, challenging and interesting.

But maybe you disagree, and that's perfectly okay.

These are just my opinions and preferences, which I wanted to take a moment to clarify.

With that said, I'm imposing some limitations as usual, and the result, I think, is a really good fight.

so ignoring pure cheese, the ideal gear to use is...

a nightmare amulet

A lazy explorer

or two

A magiluminescence or armor

A good weapon

A Bee Queen Crown.

And some weather pains.

The weapon is self explanatory, as is the magiluminescence slash armor.

If you don't know, a magiluminescence increases your movement speed by 20%, so it's handy to quickly round the atrium killing off the unseen hands.

But if you're using a bee queen crown, I'd probably prefer armor to help preserve the durability of the crown since it's a relatively rare item that can only be reliably collected every 20 days.

The bee queen crown is a really nifty piece of armor that inverts sanity auras, so instead of the fuelweaver's insanity aura taking away sanity, it will give you sanity.

This allows you to essentially ignore sanity altogether, which is otherwise a major aspect of the fight.

The time it would take to defeat the bee queen is about the time that it'd take to gather enough cactus

especially now that the bee queen is an easier solo fight than when I fought her before.

But I'm purposely avoiding the bee queen hat because I think it makes the fight a bit too easy.

A lazy explorer allows you to teleport out of the bone enclosures so that you can kill the woven shadows before the Fuelweaver eats them.

It's definitely helpful, but not strictly necessary if you have a weather pain.

Weather pains allow you to kill the woven shadows at range, and en masse.

You could use another ranged weapon like a blow dart for this purpose, but the weather pain makes it much easier.

Once you see woven shadows pop up you'll probably feel a strong urge to freak out and spam the weather pain

but you can also calmly lead the ancient Fuelweaver around and corral the woven buggers into a nice herd that can be blasted away with one or two uses of the weather pain.

In my view, you either need a lazy explorer or a weather pain to solo this guy.

If you have both, well, that's great. Both will make the fight easier for sure.

For this fight, however, I'm going to avoid using the weather pain

but I'll put out another video as Wes where I showcase the weather pain strategy.. because doing stuff with Wes is difficult, I guess.

By the way, the reason I use wolfgang for speedruns, besides the obvious speed and power multipliers, is because I try to use general strategies that any character can use.

Anything Wolfgang can do, another character can.

It would just require longer fights, more prep time, and more resources expended.

Whereas a Webber, Wendy, Wigfrid, Woodie or Wickerbottom specific run could not be replicated by another character, so, in my view at least, it's less useful and interesting.

Plus, Wolfgang is my favorite character to play as.

There's just so much depth to his gameplay.

It's also so much fun seeing a fully decked out and mighty Wolfgang utterly annihilate hordes of surface mobs. muahaha

I view the nightmare amulet as indispensable for a solo fight with the Fuelweaver.

The nightmare amulet allows you to quickly dip in and out of insanity so that you can attack the unseen hands without being susceptible to the Fuelweaver's immobilizing insanity attack.

In theory, you can dip in and out using sanity foods, but in order to do that quickly and reliably, you need to be on the cusp of insanity, and you can't really guarantee that when the Fuelweaver has a 400 point per minute insanity aura.

With the pace of the fight, and the amount of things you have to deal with all by yourself, I don't think the fight is viable without the nightmare amulet.

Though if you have sanity information available at a glance, and you do use the bee queen crown and weather pains

I do think it's possible to make do by munching on raw green caps or Glommer goop and then recovering sanity quickly when necessary, but it'd be pretty tough.

So for the fight I'll be using a lazy explorer, a nightmare amulet, a magiluminesence, a weapon, and some cactus.

Usually I like to come up with my own strategies, but I will be utilizing one that I picked up from Helicalpuma.

I hope I'm saying that right.

So of course I'll give credit where it's due.

He figured out that you can avoid some of the bones from the snare by standing at the edge of the arena, which enables you to escape the snare without using a telepoof from an explorer.

I think that's pretty ingenious.

It's the sort of exploit I can appreciate.

You're not going to win the fight by perpetually hugging the edge of the arena.

You need to venture inwards at some point to at least get rid of the unseen hands, so it requires vigilance to know when you should hug the wall, and skill to actually get there without sabotaging the fight itself.

mmm.. I guess technically you can get rid of the unseen hands from the walls with a weather pain.. even if you aren't insane, so long as you have a target behind or around it.

Besides Helicalpuma's wall strat, I'll be swapping to the nightmare amulet at opportune times to induce the insanity attack when I want to avoid the snare.

There's a cooldown on the insanity attack though, so I can't avoid the snare altogether.

I'll also be trying to lure the Fuelweaver to one of the corners of the arena.

The woven shadows spawn in a radius around the ancient gateway.

so by luring the Fuelweaver to one corner, it'll give me extra time to smack it with a sword and kill the minions that spawned on the side closest to me while the others make the long journey over.

But if you're unlucky, you won't have any time between minion spawns to lure it anywhere.

Or take away any health before it spawns more minions that need to be dealt with.

and if you're really unlucky, it will spawn them when it's right smack dab in the middle of the arena.

This makes it so that minions are coming at it from all directions, making it difficult to get them all if you don't have a weather pain.

And if the Fuelweaver is in the middle of the arena, it's possible that some minions can spawn right on top of it, making it so that those minions are immediately consumed.

If there's a large cluster of minions, I'll try to stand near them when a snare is about to come because the snare can destroy multiple of them.

You can also manipulate the Fuelweaver to walk into the wall if you stand in this spot..

I probably won't utilize this but I think it's kind of funny.

Oh and you can also bypass the maze entirely if you stand at the edge of the map when the obelisk goes up.

I will be going through the maze properly though.

phew. okay so that's everything to do with the fight, and we haven't even gotten to spawning the Fuelweaver in the first place.

alright..

The first requirement is the ancient key.

You need to stick the ancient key in the ancient gateway.

In order to fight the Ancient Fuelweaver rather than just a generic reanimated skeleton.

You get the ancient key from defeating the Ancient Guardian.

You also need 8 fossils which can be mined from stalagmites...

or spilagmites

I'll prefer spilagmites because 1 fossil is guaranteed, and you'll sometimes get 2 per spilagmite.

Plus fighting cave spiders is more exciting than just mining a bunch of rocks.

Next you need a shadow atrium to revive the assembled skeleton.

In order to get a shadow atrium, you need to defeat a tier 3 shadow boss on the night of a new moon.

This is the hoop that sets a hard limit of day 22 on the run because of the way the moon cycle works.

There's always a new moon on day 1, then the moon rises up to a full moon on day 11

then back down to a new moon on day 21.

In order to spawn the shadow bosses, you need to find a setpiece which contains the rook, knight and bishop sculptures

then you need to find the complementary sculpture piece for each of these chess statues in order to repair the statue bodies.

As far as I can tell, the pieces are completely random as to where they spawn, so to find them it will simply take revealing a large portion of the map.

Another hitch is that you move very, very slowly when transporting the pieces.

The only way to circumvent this slowness is by hitching a ride with a beefalo, which is what I'll do.

As you can see, it'd be impossible to achieve all of this within a day's time.

Even if by some miracle the 3 pieces just happen to spawn right near the sculpture bodies, you'd still need some decently advanced weaponry in order to actually kill the shadow bosses.

so.. day 21 it is.

You need all 3 shadow bosses because of the way their leveling system works.

Only a tier-3 shadow boss drops the shadow atrium.

Then you need to actually find the location of the atrium biome.

This involves finding and fighting the large tentacles, or tentapillars, that are randomly placed in the caves.

One and only one of the tentapillars leads to the atrium.

Sometimes you can teleport to the atrium biome if it's close enough to the regular caves area though.

Unlike the sculpture pieces, there is some pattern that can be discerned in the tentapillar generation.

There is always either 10 or 12 of them per cave, and since half of them lead to the other half, that means there's either 5 or 6 warp points.

So, obviously, if you find one tentapillar, that means you've found 2, and depending on the total amount of them, each one has either a 20% or 17% chance of leading to the atrium biome.

There tends to be one tentapillar for each of the 3 mushroom biomes, but sometimes not.

There's often multiple tentapillars in the muddy and rocky biomes.

Usually one in a guano biome.

Swamp is hit or miss; it seems to be 50/50 whether there's gonna be one.

And the multi-biome rarely has a tentapillar.

Depending on if I get a lazy explorer drop from the Ancient Guardian, I might need to fight a few MacTusks as well for a walking cane to convert to a lazy explorer.

Getting the lazy explorer drop is preferable since it'd save a lot of time, but I'm not going to insist on it.

This is a really long and grueling run, and I can't be bothered to start from scratch just because I didn't get an explorer 2 hours into the run.

Even though I'm calling this a speedrun, I don't really care THAT much about the time.

And since I'll need to craft magic and ruins gear, and I'll need fuel for the magiluminescence, I'm going to be insane and fighting nightmares for most of the run while I do everything else.

So yeah, even though this is over 3 hours long, this run is jam-packed with loads of action.

There are a few bits that I'd recommend skipping

like when I'm riding around on the beefalo looking for the sculpture pieces, or when I'm picking cactus.

Nothing really exciting happens then. But most of the run is pretty good.

You can also check out the time-stamps of highlights in the description if you want to skip around to see the good parts.

Looking at the descriptions of the time stamps will obviously spoil the run though, so don't look if you just want to watch straight through.

Oh and I finally updated my key press widget thing to distinguish between left and right mouse clicks!

I'm not sure how many people pay attention to that thing, but I think it's a neat feature.

So, yesterday I was at the dentist and I was talking to my hygienist and a family friend about my plans for next year.

And I realized how important it is to care.

Like, they don't know me very well, but they both cared about me and were excited for my new adventure in college

and were excited for me to leave the house and to go do things. They were excited that I had graduated and were excited that I was going somewhere.

And they were congratulating me and wishing me luck. And it dawned on me how simple and yet how effective caring can be.

It doesn't take much to tell someone congratulations. It doesn't take much to be excited for new adventures for them.

But it really makes an impact. Like, it impacted me. I was like "wow, I'm going to school and people are excited for me"

It was just so interesting to see caring in a different way than I usually do.

It was weird because I'm not used to getting just like random caring from people around me.

And it was-it was really nice.

I think we need to care more about people we're around, um, even if you don't know them very well.

Because it definitely made me feel more ready for college

because I knew that even these people who barely knew me were excited for me, and knew th-and were like wishing good things for me.

And if people who I only tangently know are excited for me, can you imagine like how my parents feel, and how my friends, and other family members feel.

and how excited they are for me. It's just-It's nice to remember that people care.

We forget, sometimes, to care about other people because we're so wrapped up in ourselves. I know I get that way a lot.

There's something to be said about caring for everyone around you

And it's really cool. [laughs] It's really cool.

I think the world would be a lot better if everyone put just five minutes in their day caring about the people around them

because you have no idea how much that little bit of caring can make someone better about themselves, and about the future, and about what they're doing and where they're going

It's really very cool to have these people excited for me and telling me that, like, it was gonna be fun and that I was going to love it.

It was very nice.

Share more kindness and care more about people around you.

Really there is no like- this is a pretty filler type of video, but be nice to people around you and care about people around you.

And take the time to ask them about themselves and to make them feel like what they're reaching for isn't a waste of time. [laughs]

Just subtle acts of caring, I think, can go a long way in making the world a better place.

Hello fellow educators

Today I'm going to talk to you about

Information literacy for our gullible student readers

who believes everything on the internet

Yup, we've all seen it happen.

So what is information literacy?

Well, although there is no set definition of information literacy

American Library Association define it as

(read quote above)

So it's basically sets of skills to

purposefully gather and use information we obtain

So why should we teach evaluating educational websites?

Anyone can add information on the website

without credibility or accuracy now

Great examples are Wikipedia, blogs, youtube, etc.

So with everyone contributing something on the internet

students today are now faced with

having too much information to gather from

So what should we do?

We should equip students with

"Research strategies, authorship, and meaning making."

So help students filter

and gather meaningful information

This is a funny cartoon I found

We've all seen it happen

We teach students about digital citizenship

That is one issue here

But sometimes students believe everything on the internet

over what the teacher teaches

So how do we evaluate websites?

As Bob Ross says, practice

So here is an unfortunate but easy way

to remember how to evaluate websites

The C.R.A.A.P. Test

C for currency

So dates and references

R for relevance

So look at the url, the title, are the images

and all those things related to the information you need?

A for Authority

Who is/are the authors?

Do they have any credentials?

Or are they provided on the website somewhere?

A for Accuracy

Are the evidences provided verifiable?

Are there any biase?

Are there any grammatical or technical errors?

and P for Purpose

What, why, who is the intended audience?

Are they writing to sell something?

To inform something?

Or are they making an argment to make a point?

Now, there is no one way of evaluating websites

The C.R.A.A.P. test was one of them

There are other features that you can consider

such as functionality

And the article on the ABCs of Website Evaluation

Goes from all the way from A to Z

and does a great job with all the other features as well

Such as graphics, navigability, and requirements

Like technical requirements

And at the end of this slide

I also have a link to another one called

the DISCOVER test

that you can also check out

So how do we promote information literacy?

How can we transfer our evaluating skills

to a student who may have a harder time

differentiating between facts from fiction?

Here are some lesson ideas

In the beginning

select the websites for students to practice

Have them practice using

the Jigsaw website evaluation reading

So have them work in groups

and present it in the group

why and how they evaluated it

It could be a Gallery Walk

Have students work with a group

and have that group present to other groups in the class

Or it could simply be a weekly news article

But instead of just presenting the article

evaluate the websites first

And with more skills

have students engaged in research-based lessons

Have students evaluate them

before actually gathering information

from those websites

A great way to submit those could be

just a worksheet or a Google Form

of specific lesson plans

for different grade levels and subjects
