Youtube daily report Aug 26 2017

Hi there. Today I'm on my way to Jerome in Arizona.

I'm going to do a bit a wine-tasting, have some barbecue for lunch

and take a look at one of America's Scenic Byways for which this video is about really.

I have a playlist about those byways where I to try to drive down as many of them as possible,

This is another one I can check off on the list I suppose.

So let's take a look at it.

I have been to Jerome a bunch of times before but I haven't actually driven through it,

so I missed that the Scenic Byway completely, so yeah.

I'm going to change that today hopefully so let's see what happens.

The Mingus Mountain scenic road starts in Prescott Valley,

goes over Mingus mountain and all the way to Jerome and so it descends into Verde Valley.

I will start here with a quick time-lapse for the impatient going exactly that way.

The road itself doesn't take a long time to drive, so you should take some time to

check out the views along the way and also spend some time in Jerome.

Jerome is an old mining town with a population of less than 500,

and I would say on a day like this there's at least as many tourists.

Almost a 100 years ago when the copper mine was still running, the population was over 5,000 people and

some sources of about 10,000.

But the mine was closed in 1954 and so today the main focus of the town is tourism.

You can find tastings room it's if you want to go sample the local wine,

and yes they make wine in Arizona in case you didn't know.

There's art galleries and 2 museums, a tattoo parlor and a lot of strange things.

There's also a few hotels there if you would like to spend the night.

Don't forget to take a look at the so called ghost town, where you can find a lot of weird stuff,

including an electric car from 1902, which shows I guess that EV's are not a new invention.

The town also seems to be popular among people on motorcycles.

Personally I like to visit Bobby D's barbecue, but doing that before going wine tasting

might mess up your taste buds, so plan around that.

The reason we visited Jerome back in 2013, was to visit Caduceus Cellars and taste their wine

and go buy some merchandise in the puscifer store.

Since then we have been back every year.

if you're interesting in going mountain biking or hiking or paragliding,

I've seen there's a possibility of doing that on Mingus mountain as well.

I'll leave you here with some music and drive down Mingus Mountain scenic road,

going the other way than the time-lapse I showed before.

Have a nice day!
