Croatia's Luka Modric wins FIFA best player of the year award

Croatia's Luka Modric wins FIFA best player of the year award.

   Luka Modric ended Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi's decade-long domination of football's individual awards by being crowned FIFA's best player of the year on Monday.

The Real Madrid and Croatia midfielder starred for both club and country as Madrid won a third straight Champions League, and he inspired Croatia to reach the World Cup final for the first time.

He beat Ronaldo and Liverpool's Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah to the prize.

Modric's success means Ronaldo remains tied with Messi having won FIFA's award in different guises five times each.

At 33, Croatia's run to the final was the culmination of a brilliant career for Modric that had often been overshadowed by Ronaldo's goalscoring in their time together in the Spanish capital, before the Portuguese left for Juventus in July.

Modric scored twice and also netted in penalty shootout wins over Denmark and Russia, but it was his playmaking ability that caught the eye in winning the Golden Ball for the best player at the World Cup.

"It was an unbelievable season, the best season in my life," said Modric.

"I'm still not realising how good a year I had collectively, individually, and I'm very proud for everything I achieved this year and it will be remembered forever." For a sixth straight season, Ronaldo was the Champions League's top scorer with 15 goals and also scored four times at the World Cup, including a hat-trick against Spain in a thrilling 3-3 draw to open Portugal's campaign.

However, Portugal's last 16 exit to Uruguay in Russia and Ronaldo's failure to score in the semi-finals or final of the Champions League opened the door for Modric.

Neither Ronaldo or Messi attended the glitzy ceremony in London with both in action for Juventus and Barcelona respectively on Wednesday.

For the first time in 12 years, Messi was not among the finalists with third place going to Salah for his incredible 44-goal debut season with Liverpool that carried the Reds to the Champions League final.

However, a shoulder injury suffered early on in the final robbed Salah of the chance to help Liverpool lift the trophy and also meant he was far from peak condition as he led Egypt's World Cup bid.

Despite scoring in each of his two appearances in Russia, he bowed out with the Pharaohs bowed at the group stage with three defeats.

Salah did not go away empty handed, however, as he picked up the Puskas award for best goal for his strike against Everton in the Merseyside derby last December.

Modric was joined by Real team-mates Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane and Marcelo in the FIFPro team of the year, also featuring David De Gea, Dani Alves, N'Golo Kante, Eden Hazard, Kylian Mbappe, Messi and Ronaldo.

France's World Cup-winning coach Didier Deschamps won the best coach of the year prize in recognition for his work in leading Les Bleus to success in Russia.

Deschamps, who became just the third man to win the World Cup as a player and coach, beat off competition from Dalic and his former France team-mate Zinedine Zidane, who won a third consecutive Champions League title with Real Madrid before resigning in June.

Thibaut Courtois won the best goalkeeper award for helping Belgium reach the World Cup semi-finals as well as the FA Cup with Chelsea before a summer move to Madrid.

Brazil's Marta was crowned best women's player for a record sixth time for her role in winning the Copa America to beat out Lyon duo Ada Hegerberg and Dzsenifer Marozsan.

Lyon boss Reynald Pedros did win the award for best women's coach, though, after winning the Champions League with the French giants.

Humanoid Mech Tutorial - Animating Procedural Walk (3ds Max CAT) - Duration: 9:25.

Hey, fellow animators, I'm Miloš Černý.

Today we will be creating this walk cycle for a humanoid mech.

It will be done using 3ds Max CAT as usual and we will use it's procedural Motion Layers.

I have a similar tutorial of animating a run for a wolf already.

You can check that one here.

The model is a Mech or a Robot but I was trying to animate the walk as a human like.

Because that's the model I had and most of you want to animate your custom models anyway.

So it's better to show it on something with a mesh then just a basic CAT human rig.

But let's start already.

Go to a Motion Panel and create a Motion Layer.

You will probably have something like this.

But don't worry, it can get better.

Open up CATMotion Editor and let's start setting things up.

First change the speed of the animation to be a little slower.

To 30 frames for example.

Also let's change the timeline to 30 frames so it loops nicely.

Ok, first thing.

Let's fix the knees.

Find "TargetAlign" under the Ankle and set the first value to 1.0.

Much better.

For the Pelvis, let's scale down most of it's movements.

Twist can be scale down to 20%.

WeightShift even more, down to 12.5%.

And Roll as well, to something like 50.

Ok, let's move the Pelvis a bit lower by changing the OffsetPos for the X axis.

Now rotate the arms so we have a better idea of the overall pose.

Also maybe let's rotate a KneeAngle so the knees point a bit outwards as they move.

Offset it up by maybe 30.

With the Chest, we have to do something similar as we did with Pelvis.

Scale down Twist to 75% and also offset it to the left by 5.

The Roll can be scaled down to 10%.

And for the Pitch we have to build a curve.

Set -3 value for these two points.

You can see that it jumps up and down a bit already, but let's bend it a bit more,

by offsetting the whole curve down.

Twist can be offsetted to the left even more.

And let's offset Roll by -25 as well.

The head is awful at the moment.

Offset it's Y position, so it moves a bit back.

Twist doesn't have to be here almost at all.

And Roll even more so.

Pitch needs a curve again, so let's build one.

Set it to -5, -10, -5 and -10.

But it's still bad, because we also have to offset it to the side.

Ok, this looks much better.

We don't need lift at all for the head at the moment.

Let's move on, to the arms.

However, we have a little problem here.

3Ds Max has this bug here where Twist and Swing do the same thing.

It's only in newer versions of 3ds Max because it wasn't there in 2014 or even 2016 I think.

But it's ok, because we can work around it.

I will show you in a minute.

Let's change the Bend for now.

Something like this.

Also the Swing.

So the arms move to the front a bit more.

We also need to change the swinging of palms by changing HandFlopX, to minus 150%.

So the curve also flips.

It's already much better but it also has to be offsetted to the left.

To bend fingers a bit, change DigitCurlAngle.

Offset the whole curve by 15 for example.

Now some more details to do.

Like bringing Pelvis even lower.

And changing the tangents of the bottom points.

You can see how it affects the animation.

The jumps up and down are much snappier.

Now, the position of Collarbones.

Take a look a Y axis.

Now the pose looks kind of aggressive.

But if we bring the shoulders lower,

it's immediately more relaxed.

Which is what I want.

But such a simple detail changes the feel of the whole animation.

Also, you should sometimes play the whole animation with the bones hidden.

Because the animation usually feels different when you hide them.

You can see that the animation is still not ideal and that it needs some more work.

We need to add more movement to the upper arm but because of that bug, we couldn't

solve it procedurally.

However, we can add an Adjustment Layer and fix it there.

Just key the upper arm on frames 0, 15 and 30.

Then move the arm a bit back on frame 0 and do it for the last one as well.

For the other arm it's very similar.

But, do the offset on the frame 15.

Don't forget to set those animations for both upper arms to loop.

So the animations stays the same even after you change your timeline.

It looks better now, but the bending of the arms is too much.

Let's scale it a bit down.

Palm to maybe 50%.

And arm bending so it's almost straight in it's extreme,

but not bent so much in the other extreme.

Pitch for Chest could be offsetted a bit so it's not so aligned with the Pelvis.

Also the arms move to the back too much.

So let's offset them by 5 degrees to the front, but without autokey turned on.

So the offset applies for the whole animation, not just this frame.

And now, this is what we have.

We haven't touched the legs at all for now, but we will do that in a next video.

Try to look at the animation from different angles.

Also with CAT you can switch with one click between walking on spot and walking in space.

So use that as well.

There is almost always something to fix and this animation is not the greatest either.

We will continue with it in a second part, but hopefully even this should be sufficient

as a guide of what you should look at and what parameters are interesting in the Motion Editor.

So that's it for this part, but I wanted to give you a heads up.

I will be again abroad a lot during the upcoming 30 days or so.

So I will not be able to work on the videos too much.

But, don't think that I have abandoned the channel or stopped doing videos at all or something.

I will be again able to work on them hopefully in the second half of October, so things will

get back to normal again.

Tarta cu Trandafiri din Mere / Rose Apple Tart (English Subtitles) - Duration: 7:27.

Hi my dear friends!

I'm Beatricia, welcome to my channel!

Today we're going to make an absolutely wonderful tart

with apple roses!

Aside from looking sensational it also has a very delicate taste

and will certainly make an impression on any dinner guest!

Let's begin!

First, we'll make the crust. Place the walnuts

in a food processor or blender.

This tart doesn't contain any flour

and the sugar quantity is also quite small.

Process the walnuts until you get a

sand like consistency.

Transfer the walnuts to a bowl and add the brown sugar

or regular sugar, a pinch of salt,

an egg white and some melted butter.

Mix everything well

until everything comes nicely together and the mixture becomes like a paste.

Transfer the mixture to a tart pan.

My tart pan has a diameter of 24cm.

Spread the mixture as evenly as possible

on the surface of the pan.

Bake the crust for 10 minutes in an oven preheated to 200°C

The crust will turn brown quite quickly so keep an eye on it to avoid burning.

In the meantime let's work on the vanilla and maple syrup pastry cream.

In a medium bowl add the egg yolks,

the maple syrup, vanilla paste or extract,

corn starch and a small amount of milk from the total quantity.

Pour the rest of the milk in a large saucepan

and bring it to a boil.

Whisk together all the other ingredients

until combined. I'd like to mention

that the maple syrup used is a perfect alternative to sugar in desserts

and complements all the other flavour combinations of this tart.

However, it is important that it's of good quality. If you can't get maple syrup

you can substitute it with brown or ordinary sugar or any other syrup you like the most.

When the milk has come to a boil, pour it slowly

in the main mixture while continuing to whisk.

This way we're tempering the egg yolks to avoid causing them a temperature shock.

After adding in all the milk, bring the entire mixture back to a medium low heat.

I prefer to take a clean saucepan so that the skin that formed on the bottom from the milk

doesn't get in the cream while we'll be stirring.

Keep whisking continuously

until the cream gradually thickens.

The cream is ready as is the crust.

Now spread the cream over the entire surface to fill in the tart.

Next, prepare the apple roses.

Fill a large bowl with cold water and

squeeze in the juice of a large lemon or two smaller ones.

The lemon water will help to avoid the apples from turning yellow.

Next, take 4-5 medium sized apples,

cut them in half, remove the core and cut in slices.

It's very important that the slices are as thin as possible

to be able to roll them after.

Transfer the slices to the lemon water while we cut the rest of the slices.

Next, drain the apples from the lemon water and

pour boiling water over them.

Leave the apples in the boiled water between 3 to 5 minutes

until they become soft. If you leave them in for too long

they will start to loose their colour vibrancy.

So leave them in just until they're soft enough to roll.

Drain the apples again from the hot water

and now we're ready to start creating the roses.

Begin with a smaller slice by rolling it on the inside,

then take bigger slices and fold them all around each other

until you get the desired size.

The roses are really easy to make,

but I'm warning you they do take some time.

At this stage you may benefit from the help of other family members

or if you've got children this can also be an interesting and fun activity for them.

Place the roses on the pastry cream

and of course you can arrange it

in any way you like to achieve the desired shape.

Continue until you fill the entire tart with roses.

Bake the tart for a further 5 minutes at 150°C.

Finally, brush the roses with some jam.

I chose to stick to the main theme and so I used rose petal jam

that I've heated up a little in the microwave.

To remove the tart ring, I placed the pan on top of a smaller bowl

and carefully pushed it downwards.

Of course, this is only possible with removable bottom pan.

With an ordinary tart pan this tart will be much more difficult to make

because the crust is very fragile.

The tart is most delicious served warm.

It's very well balanced, it's not too sweet.

My husband loved it so much that I had to make another one just a couple of days later!

This why I had to share this recipe with you as well.

You always want to go up against the best.' Reed has even got something up his sleeve to tease the galleries again but he is keeping that to himself for now

'You'll just have to wait and see,' he said, mischievously. On Friday afternoon at East Lake, the 28-year-old Masters champion finished his round with five successive bogeys and then practised for an hour afterwards in the boiling heat

'I know I'm not playing great here, but the Ryder Cup is a totally different beast,' he said

'When they call my name out on Friday, I'll be ready to go, don't worry about that

' No one doubts it. Not with a record of seven points from nine matches, with just one loss

But such a record makes him a prize scalp. 'I know they're going to be coming for me and I'll have a target on my back,' he said

'When I play for my country it just gives me a whole extra dynamic to my game and my personality

' As if Reed needed any further motivation, he did a double-take when told how long it had been since the last American victory in Europe

He knew it was a while but had no idea it was actually 25 years ago. 'You're telling me I was three years old the last time we won on foreign soil?' he says, with mock outrage

'We've gotta change that. We are way more focused than we were in 2014. The guys are playing better and we're heading over with a real purpose
