From the most technologically advanced to the largest trucks ever made, here are 9 of
the most bizarre trucks in the world!
#9 Hitachi EH5000AC-3 The EH5000AC-3 is Hitachi's largest rigid-frame
hauler in the history of the company's existence.
They use a unique hauler technology that has lasted them through the ages.
In addition to the timeless technique, they've added a brand new, high-efficiency Advanced
IGBT AC-Drive system.
Hitachi is one of the most eco-friendly companies that produce hauling trucks.
They can raise profits by lowering fuel and maintenance costs.
They are able to spend less, to make more, and get more done in the process.
The machine itself weighs about 550 tons, but has a payload of 325 tons.
With a 2,850 hp, the Hitachi EH5000AC-3 knows how to get the most out of its fuel.
It also has safety measures built in.
A Slip/Slide Control System will add traction in slippery conditions, such a rainstorm or
when ice is on the roads.
Not to mention, this makes sharp turns much easier as well.
A pitch control system will allow this truck to drive over rough roads with ease.
Meaning, the driver won't lose any of its load when off-road.
With LCDs, heating/cooling controls, independent cabs, monitoring cameras, and much more, it
is likely this machine is the most advanced and well thought out truck in the world.
#8 BelAZ 75710 As the make suggests, the BelAZ is a manufacturer
based in Belarus.
As of 2016, it is the world's largest, highest payload capacity haul truck.
The BelAz 75710 is equipped with a two-axle setup yet the wheels are a four to an axle!
Because of this, it also needs eight large 59/80R63 tires.
Four-wheel drive and four-wheel hydraulic steering is seen on this truck.
A funny addition considering its turning radius is only 20 meters.
It can be loaded to a capacity of nearly 500 short tons and still drive as usual.
Though empty, it still weighs over 350 tons.
It is 66 feet long, 26 feet tall, and 32 feet wide.
That's about three times as tall as a Giraffe.
Rather than using the power of one single engine, it is powered by two 65-litre 16-cylinder
diesel engines, each of these engines having 2,300 horsepower.
Since the fuel consumption is 198 g/kWh per engine, there is an option to use only one
engine when carrying smaller loads.
At its best, it can travel 40 miles per hour.
BelAz believes in this 2013 truck so much, that they have invested $644 million in increasing
its total production capacity.
#7 Caterpillar 797F The Caterpillar 797F is Caterpillar's largest,
highest payload capacity haul truck!
It appears to be every little boy's dream to drive one of these when he grows up as
the 797 series is the perfect Tonka truck model!
The Caterpillar 797F was first mentioned to the public at MINExpo International in September,
2008.
This guy was the successor to the 797B.
The 797F has a higher payload capacity and a more powerful, more efficient engine than
its predecessor.
Because of these increases, Caterpillar could meet the needs of mine operators' so they
were able to increase the efficiency of their work.
They also saved money by reducing the costs considering the payload was much higher, meaning
less trips, less fuel, less time.
The payload capacity? 400 short tons!
The horsepower?
A gross 4,000!
The top speed?
42 miles per hour!
This truck is fully geared with a rear axle mounted, computer controlled, seven speed
planetary transmissions that is equipped with an integral lock-up torque converter.
#6 Bucyrus MT 6300AC You have to see this military-style machine
to believe it!
Built for mining, it is a sight to behold and a wondrous machine unlike any other!
The Bucyrus MT6300AC is an off road, double-axle, ultra class, diesel/AC electric powertrain
haul truck.
It was designed and manufactured by Bucyrus International Inc. in America.
The MT6300AC is the company's biggest, highest payload capacity haul truck, and closing in
on the highest in the world at 400 short tons.
Even fully-loaded, this hauler can reach speeds of up to 40 miles per hour.
On February 19, 2010, the Terex Unit Rig MT6300AC was re-branded which created the Bucyrus MT6300AC.
This took place when Bucyrus International Inc. took over the mining equipment area of
Terex Corporation.
You may know Bucyrus makes as Caterpillar's UnitRigs as in 2011, Caterpillar took over
a good part of the Bucyrus trucks.
#5 Dekotora The Dekotora is definitely the most highly-decorated,
flashy truck on the list.
Some might say it looks more like a Barbie van than any truck they've ever seen.
Hence why it is on this list!
Expect the unexpected!
The Dekotora is an abbreviation for "decoration truck" that is commonly seen in Japan.
It is usually displayed with neon or ultraviolet lights, extravagant paints and stainless or
golden exterior parts.
These can be found on the inside and outside of the trucks.
They are normally used to celebrate events, advertise for businesses, or just to have
fun.
For this reason, they are commonly known as Art Trucks as well.
In 1975, Toei came out with a movie series called Torakku Yarō (or Truck Guys) that
focused on a trucker who drove a flashy, garish truck all over Japan.
Soon after, the trucks started popping up everywhere as fans decorated their own rides.
At this time, those who wanted to drive such trucks had to get creative as decorations
so big and bright were not so easy to obtain.
In the 1990s, Gundam, a Japanese anime featuring robots with mobile suits, heavily influenced
fans of Dekotora as they mimicked the cartoon.
#4 Liebherr T 284 What's the largest dump truck in the world?
The German-made Liebherr T 284.
Could this be the most impressive truck on the list?
Perhaps!
Take a look to decide for yourself if this monstrosity should be number one!
Liebherr is a German heavy equipment company.
They make it their goal to continuously create bigger and better dump trucks than ever before.
That's why they have the biggest Dump Truck in the world!
The Liebherr T 282B is their largest model.
The company worked long and hard to create this crazy model, but the record set really
made all of the effort worth it.
The new Leibherr T-284 has the highest payload in the entire dump truck industry.
Although it has the latest LITRONIC + AC Driving System, it can also figure out on its own
the best way to extract the power of the diesel engine!
This will use less fuel, yet more power.
But it really needs all that power considering it weighs 203 tons, and can hold as well as
carry at a generous speed up to 365 tons!
Even then, it can reach 4,023 horsepower!
Though the times may be the most defining feature on this guy, as they
The best part is that you can buy one for yourself!
The worst part?
It cost $3.5 million.
Good luck with that investment!
#3 The Caterpillar 797B Caterpillars are most likely the most popular
heavy equipment machines in the world, and definitely in the US.
They are big, powerful, and useful.
But none of them are more outstanding than the Caterpillar 797B.
CATs can do everything, but the 797B can do anything.
The Caterpillar 797B is an off-road, double-axle, mechanical powertrain haul truck manufactured
by none other than Caterpillar Inc.
Its main purpose is for high production mining and heavy-duty construction applications all
over the world.
The 797B is the second installment in the 797 series.
It was released in 2002 and became an instant hit.
It remained in production for a whopping seven years, only to be discontinued in 2009 when
the 797B's successor, the 797F hit the market.
At one point, the 797B was Caterpillar's largest, highest payload capacity haul truck model.
The 797B is equipped with a rear axle mounted, computer controlled, seven speed planetary
transmissions with an integral lock-up torque converter.
As well as six 11,680 lb Michelin 59/80R63 XDR tires.
#2 Komatsu 960E-1/960E-1K The Komatsu 960E-1 is an off-road, rigid-frame,
double-axle, diesel/AC electric powertrain haul truck manufactured by Komatsu America
Corp.
Bright, big, yellow.
This brilliant Komatsu could outdo Caterpillar as far as Tonka models go!
It is Komatsu's largest, highest capacity haul truck, with a payload capacity of up
to 360 short tons.
It was introduced in 2008 and has 3,500 horsepower.
The V18, dual-stage turbocharged diesel engine is coupled to a General Electric GTA-39 insulated-gate
bipolar transistor alternator that sends electrical power to twin General Electric GDY108 induction
traction motors, with one induction motor located on each side of the rear axle.
The 960E-1 cannot be driven on public roads because it is so large!
One would be knocked ut into the ditch if such was attempted and an oncoming car approached
the vehicle.
It must be shipped separately in parts as it cannot be shipped all in one load.
How much does it eight?
Over 635 tons.
But that doesn't slow it down as it can still reach 40 miles an hour.
That is one powerful truck!
#1 Bigfoot 5 You can surely tell by the name that this
truck means business.
In fact, it is in the Guinness book of world records for the biggest monster truck in the
world.
So, how could it not be number one?
In 1974, Bob Chandler who was a construction worker drove a Ford F-250 4x4 pick-up truck.
He was so rough on the truck that the parts needed replaced regularly.
Unfortunately, it wasn't easy to find the parts to replace them back in 1974.
So he created Midwest Four Wheel Drive, to fill that 4x4 gap.
Over time, to sell the business, he added parts to his truck, even some which made it
bigger.
The first Bigfoot had 48-inch tires, four-wheel steering and a supercharged eight-cylinder
engine.
A few years later, they were hired to show up in parades across the country.
He then started experimenting, and wondered if the truck could crush scrap cars.
The event was filmed, and proved his success.
He repeated the scenario at car events and gatherings before he decided to go even bigger.
Bigfoot 2 had 66-in-tall by 34-in-wide tires that were recycled from a fertilizer spreader.
Its axle once belonged to a military truck, and its 640-cubic-inch engine ran on alcohol.
By 1983, Bob had a sponsorship with Ford.
From there, he started building an entire line of Bigfoots.
In 1986, the biggest one to date was built.
The Bigfoot 5 stands was 15 ft 6 in tall and weighed 38,000 lbs with 10 ft tires.
Over twenty Bigfoots have been built, but number five has thus far been the biggest,
baddest, and craziest of them all!
Which one of these trucks was your favorite??
