One of the first jobs I applied for

after delivering newspapers,

this was now the big time, I was 16,

I could make an hourly wage,

was at Mills Fleet Farm.

This is like a tractor supply kind of store,

and I wanted the job because it,

A: paid well,

and B: I could ride my bike and work my shifts.

And part of the interview process

was a fifty question honesty test.

And have you ever lied to get a job?

Well they would ask questions like:

Have you ever lied?

Have you ever stolen anything?

Have you, and this is my favorite,

have you ever watched a movie

where the criminal was so clever

you hoped he got away with the crime?

Well,

I was honest on the honesty test,

and when they asked if I had lied I said, "Yes."

When they asked if I've ever seen movies,

I'm like, "Of course, I've seen movies where

I wanted the bad guy to get away."

Ironically, I didn't get the job

because I was honest on the honesty test.

Being honest is a pretty essential quality

for human beings to have relationships.

In his book, Willard Harley writes,

and this is "His Needs, Her Needs",

These are one of the top two things

that a wife wants in a husband.

Even ahead of financial stability,

she wants a husband who is honest.

So what that means, she would rather have

a poor husband who is honest

than a rich husband who lies.

So there's hope.

Women are not the only ones who detest lying.

In the book of Proverbs, it tells us that

Why is that?

Because lying destroys relationships.

Have you ever tried to hang out with someone

who never tells the truth?

It's not very fun.

And it destroys, not only, the relationships

we have with people or with our spouse.

It destroys the relationship we have with God.

And so God says, 'Hey, I want you to be honest.

I want you to be completely forthright

with the lies you've told or

how you've bent the truth to make yourself look better.

Even if you've lied to get a job.'

God says, 'Be completely honest with me

because I already know.'

The fact that he already knows

what we've said and what lies we've had.

We can hear the truth from him.

And the truth is this.

Even though we've already sinned,

even though we've already lied,

God says, 'I forgive you in Christ.'

Now to tell the truth all the time,

you might not be able to get a job at Mills Fleet Farm,

but I guarantee our God will delight

when you come to him and tell him the truth.

And he'll delight to tell you the truth

that in Christ you are forgiven.

Let's pray.

Heavenly Father,

Help us always to tell the truth

no matter what the cost.

Today we're heading South for the first time this year

well, actually not, we went to Ventura this past winter

and to Santa Barbara

but like we used to do for Memorial Day

it's a long weekend

we're going to head down to LA

to the Malibu area

and see if we can catch some waves

Well, there are 3 ways to get to LA from San Francisco

First one is Highway 1

which is the most famous

it goes along the coast

but it takes like 10 hours or so

it's gorgeous

you should do it at least once in your life

I used to do it once a year

but please, don't do it this year

because, I think 10 days ago or so

there was a massive slide

and the road is closed

and I heard it's going to take like a year to get fixed

it's a pity

but there are other 2 alternatives

one is the interstate 5

it is a straight highway, super boring

but it's the shortest way from Sacramento to LA

you might be able to get to LA from SF in 5 hours

if there is no traffic

I normally don't take it because it's too boring

I only take it when it's like a weekend trip

for instance when we went to Trestles or the Open of Surfing

this is a fast way to leave on a Friday and come back on Sunday

but otherwise, I don't take it

I normally take 101

which is where we are right now

it's also a freeway but some parts go along the coast

it goes through Santa Barbara

and now that we're heading to Malibu

it's actually faster than taking the 5

when you're around the Santa Barabra area

You can see Rincon and many other spots

and after Ventura I take Highway 1

through the Santa Monica mountains, which is beautiful

We are around Santa Barbara

Almost in Malibu

It's like 90 minutes left

and my friend has just called me

and apparently conditions are bad

that's why I brought the longboard

it's been a while since the last time I took it out

but I want to surf

particularly because I want to use the 3/2 suit

I'm so sick of the winter

let's see!
