Hi everyone, today we'll test old motherboard and HDD

which I've got from my subscriber a couple of months ago

DTK motherboard, model PIM-TB10

In fact is an example of earliest geneartions of PC

Visually in pretty nice condition

AMD 10 Mhz clone of analogical Intel CPU

Coprocessor socket, it's missing in this config

BIOS chip

BIOS settings could be set only with this DIP switch

There is no graphical BIOS interface which is standart for that time

Here we can set number of disk drives, monitor type, FPU presence etc.

640 KB RAM onboard

this is maximal size for this particular motherboard

8 bit SLOTS for expansion boards

Next, 5 inch MFM HDD from Seagate, model ST 225

21 MB 3600 RPM

Looks solid, and weight a lot - 1400 g

List of defective sectors on sticker

Every HDD has its own list, it also can be empty

Decorative plastic cover, which is often could be missing

Weird that often its in black color, but most cases of that period were in light tones

Longshine LCS-6210D controller for HDD, I used to work with them

For HDD connection two ribbon cables are used

Here's how they look

Western Digital Floppy controller

Can work with 1,44 drives

Also have an option to connect external floppy drive

This is board from my collection and I am happy to have it, because not all controllers of that period could work with 1.44 drives

Acumos AVGA1, can work both in 8 and 16 bit slots

Interesting that PSU which I use for testing different AT boards, also produced by DTK

It's time to press START button

Hope you would hear me nicely, because this system is pretty loud

Can't skip RAM test

By default, system boots form floppy and then from HDD

This order couldn't be changed, so you shouldn't leave diskette inside when system is booting

Since every MFM HDD should be formatted only with controller which is used together with it, I refomatted this HDD,

Create partition, clone DOS from bootable floopy

DOS 3.3 is used here

Let's do some benchmarks

Our system is twice faster than original IBM PC XT

let's test hdd

Not a big advantage comparing to IBM

105 KB/second, not even close to modern systems

Next some kind of graphics editor

you may choose resolution here

let's shoose L 256 colors

I didn't connect the mouse, so cursor speed won't be fast

here we can choose the pattern

Sorry if keyboard is too noisy, it wasn't designed for silence

Here how it works

It is pretty usable, despite it look outdated

1400 KB size

let's use utlity to view some pictures that come with editor

Pretty normal for 80ies, not a large variety of colors

These pictures have larger resolution

much cooler look, 1988, probably 256 colors

Next the most inetersting part is gaminnnnng

Not from all of the games it is possible to quit normally, sometimes it's needed to restart system

I don't show you full qualification, I am on 4th place in easy level mode
