Hello and welcome to the WrestleTalk News!
I'm Oli Davis.
John Cena & Shinsuke Nakamura Plans Last night's episode of Smackdown - which
you can watch my review of right here on WrestleTalk's YouTube channel (cheap pop me in the comments)
- featured a terrific No. 1 contender's match where Shinsuke Nakamura beat John Cena
clean to face WWE Champion Jinder Mahal at Summerslam.
Wow.
That's an actual sentence.
The winner was actually leaked by the Dirty Sheets podcast before the match, where they
correctly reported Nakamura would win clean in the middle of the ring.
If you flicked over to the WWE Network immediately following Smackdown to watch 205 Live, though
- in which case, you're one of those four people - you would've been met with Baron
Corbin attacking Nakamura after his win.
Cena then ran down for the save, put Corbin through the announcers' table, and re-raised
Shinsuke's arm in celebration.
Cage Side Seats are reporting a rumour that the original plan had Corbin interfering in
the actual match, costing Cena the win - starting a feud between the two.
The article continues that this would be Cena's last programme on Smackdown before moving
to Monday nights after Summerslam, where he's being advertised for the Raw pay-per-view
No Mercy in September.
Nakamura/Cena Botch The finish to Nakamura vs Cena was arguably
the best part of the match - Cena hitting a second AA and rolling through to deliver
a third.
But Shinsuke reversed it into an exploder suplex and a Kinshasa to win.
Rather worryingly, though, that exploder suplex dropped John right on his neck.
That's how we do things in Japan, John.
Now get up on the top rope so I can piledrive you through a table!
In addition to the painful-looking slow motion replay, you can tell it's a botch by Nakamura's
post-match reaction - walking towards John saying "I'm sorry", to which Cena seems
to reply, "Don't be sorry".
Thankfully Cena kicked out of his potential injury at two.
Bayley Injured Bayley, however, might not be so lucky.
During Bayley's countout victory against Nia Jax on Monday's episode of Raw, she
did such a good job selling her shoulder, many thought she was actually injured.
Going by an article on WWE.com, that's because she is:
"Dr. Chris Amann told WWE.com, "We've determined the injury is shoulder-related,
and she will be going under further diagnostic testing later this week to determine the extent
of the injury and also establish a timetable for recovery.""
The problem with WWE.com articles is that they publish kayfabe (or 'in-storyline')
ones alongside genuine news stories like suspensions or releases.
Bayley really might have injured her shoulder, putting her Summerslam match against Raw Women's
Champion Alexa Bliss in doubt; but it also could just be a work to gain sympathy from
the fans.
Meanwhile, Brock Lesnar has threatened to leave WWE on Raw!
And how did the Summerslam poster potentially spoil Nakamura's win?
