What do EPFL students think about the Rolex Learning Center? - Duration: 5:17.
In 2010, the Swiss Federal Institute in Lausanne (EPFL) inaugurates the Rolex Learning Center. Eight years later, the Library gives the floor to the students. They express about the architecture and services of the "Rolex".
To me, the most impressive part is under the Rolex.
It gives a surrealist impression.
I think I came here more than a thousand times in five years. The Rolex is like home for me.
When do you come at the Rolex Learning Center ?
Every day.
Early, if I manage to get up.
During revisions.
When I have time.
Between two courses.
I live here!
Why do you come at the Rolex Learning Center?
Mainly to work, review for exams, do exercises.
All my friends are here, so we take a few breaks.
It is our way of being together.
To borrow books or to study.
To study my lessons, because it is much more difficult at home.
What do you think about the architecture and the layout of the building?
It is impressive. The architecture is very curious.
When you see it from the outside, you want to go in. Once inside, you are pleasantly surprised.
It is a big space without any wall. There are windows everywhere.
I like watching outside when I am working, so I find it very enjoyable.
It is very beautiful.
The Rolex is an icon for EPFL and Switzerland.
It is beautiful from outside and inside. But, the layout is not convenient at all.
Open and complete. Sometimes we spend full days here because we can find everything we need, like catering.
It allows us to work, have lunch, and go back to work without leaving the building.
I find extraordinary the way acoustics is handled.
I mean, there are no walls, and still you do not hear what is happening in silent areas.
Your favorite place?
The Library, because we can work calmly.
Inside the Library, between the silent and the calm area. There, I can get a balance: I do not fall asleep but still I can work.
I go to the Mathematics section of the Library. Students consider this area as the quietest one in the building.
I really enjoy working in the bubbles.
There is a kind of small and private atmosphere, where you can work in groups and release projects.
While having a closed space where you can focus, you are a little freer to discuss when needed.
However, given the number of students with projects to do, I think there should be more of them.
I appreciate the large silent areas.
There is so much people around you that you forget the environment and focus in your work.
I like the beanbag chairs area to have a rest.
I also like working at the cafeteria or having breaks there. You can discuss without the environment being too noisy.
What about the 7am-midnight 7/7 opening?
The schedules are wide enough to allow me to come after work and continue to study until late in the evening.
If I arrive at 4pm, I would like to keep working until very late in the night.
During exams periods, the Rolex should be open 24/24.
What do you think of EPFL Library?
There are many resources available to support us in our work.
Other types of books are more entertaining and allow us to clear our mind.
I try to go at the Library when I have to do research for my classes.
It is convenient to borrow documents by myself.
What is missing at the Rolex Learning Center?
Work places during revisions.
It is true that we need more space to work.
However, it is complicated because the infrastructure and the numerous slopes do not allow adding more tables and chairs.
A better ventilation in the summer, because it is a little warm sometimes.
The Rolex Learning Center in one word?
A wave, because of the design.
Useful.
Tranquility.
Surprising.
Effective.
Huge.
Beautiful.
Bright, spacious.
Unconventional. Yes, that's the word.
And EPFL Library?
I would say tranquility.
Light.
Silent.
Studious.
Complete.

THE ORDINATION
Better to rely on God than men.
In my anguish, I prayed to the Lord,
He answered my prayer and proltected me.
The Lord is with me, I am not afraid,
no man can harm me.
Better to rely on God...
than on powerful men.
All the nations have encircled me.
In the name of God, I will destroy them.
People heckled and badgered me,
but the Lord defended me.
My strength and my hymn are the Lord,
He is my salvation.
He's got it wrong.
You've put them the wrong way round.
You have to put the "e" next to the "n".
Then, it'll say, "You are an eternal priest".
Come here, look! See? "You are..."
Oh yeah. I'll change it.
Great. Thanks.
He's Vietnamese, so he makes mistakes.
There hasn't been an ordination here for a long time.
The best thing would be to put the offerings on the altar.
Maybe at the sides, cause of the kids.
Go right.
No, left.
One on each side.
Who's in charge here?
There aren't meant to be any candles.
There are only candles during the procession.
There are only two candles.
Who's in charge? You?
Okay, I'll have to tell you exactly what to do.
Even the chalices.
Who's gonna take the chalices outside? Not you?
Sorry, but we won't use those two candles.
Leave that. I'll give you a chalice instead.
No, I'll give you two chalices.
You take that. Gently, there's already wine in it.
Instead of standing here, I'm gonna put you over there.
Four chalices. We can use all four.
We'll put them there, and you carry them.
I'll put them here instead of there.
You're not too tired before the big event, are you?
I'm a bit shaky.
A bit shaky? There's no need to worry.
Just follow my lead.
That's what I tell couples...
who are getting married, the same thing.
You don't need to worry in the church.
Everyone's looking at you,
but all you have to do is follow my lead.
We can tell you what to do as we go along.
Is your parish big?
This parish includes around 50 villages.
And I think there are around 12,500 Catholics.
But maybe only around one thousand praticing!
My own family aren't really practicing Catholics.
Your family?
Yeah, they go to church from time to time.
And yet you're a priest?
I would like to thank the entire parish...
for welcoming me here today.
This is a first for me too because this is the first time...
I will have ordained a priest.
So, I am very happy to ordain Jean here today.
Well Jean, you have been a brother for a long time,
and I know you well.
I have admired your courage...
and stamina on the path to Jesus Christ.
You left your beloved Vietnam...
many years ago and looked after boat people.
Then, for more than three years, you took...
on many responsibilities in a refugee camp.
I see it as a sign from God that you are the first priest...
that I will ordain in my diocese.
You are what some would call a stranger.
But we know that there are no strangers to Christ.
You are a brother, and when you are ordained...
in a little while, you will become my son.
Let Jean Hoang,
who is to be ordained a priest please come forward.
Here I am.
Do you judge him to be worthy?
After inquiry among the people of Christ...
and upon recommendation of those concerned with his training,
I testify that he has been found worthy.
With the help of the Lord Jesus Christ, our Savior,
we entrust to his mercy his son Jean,
whom he has chosen as a priest.
We ask him to grant Jean all the gifts of his Spirit.
Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
Saint Peter and Saint Paul, pray for us.
Saint Andrew and Saint John, pray for us.
All holy apostles, pray for us.
Everyone from Yvonand is waiting for you.
I was the first non-Swiss priest ordained here.
You're the first non-European. Let's hope it continues!

Maybe he's not as bad now.
No, I saw him yesterday so I know he's just as bad.

So Johnny, we're gonna work together.
And we're gonna make lots of progress this year, right?

Right, let's get to work!
Switzerland means working...
and being on time.
If you want to do well at school or at work,
you have to be on time...
or even a little early.
And the most important thing is to work hard.
Switzerland isn't very rich. It's a very small country.
It doesn't have oil or gold.
But in Switzerland, as our parents say,
we work our fingers to the bone...
because we work and work and work...
all the time.
Me, I.
Come on, everyone. The hands, come on!
Me, I. Come on.
Come on, use the hands.
We use our hands a lot here, it's important.
Me, I.
Only one. Me, I.

I live in Lausanne.
Bellevaux!
Oh yeah, Bellevaux!
Lausanne is fine. Give her some freedom.
There are always several answers.
There isn't just one right answer,
there are lots of them.
That's life!
Here, we try to teach you about life.
I'm not the King or the Queen.
I don't know everything.
I'm here to teach you how to adapt to life...
here in Switzerland,
to teach you to speak and write French.
You've seen how it is in your countries.
Things are never white...
or yellow or green or red, right?
You're going to McDonald's ?
McDonald's is at the station.
You can go down to the lake. It's just down there.
It's nice, there's wind, there are birds.
You'll see, you'll find out for yourselves. Bye.

L'INALPE de Fernand Melgar - collection Premier Jour - Duration: 7:59.
Inalpe
At the beginning of June, the cows are taken to the Alpine meadows
where the grass is softer. This day is called "inalpe".
Saphir is getting impatient!
- Hi! - Hi!
- Are you ok? - Fine. And you?
- How was the exam? - Fine. It took 15 minutes.
- With whom? - Professor Balourd.
- Michel? - No, Roland.
They're warming up already.
They know it's the day of the inalpe.
Be careful not to be overthrown.
How many are we?
We'll be four. Without the herder.
Two hours to herd them together?
Oh no! It'll be done in 45 minutes. No problem.
- Because there's several of you! - Yes, and then there's you!
Come on. You'll lead them. Come, come!
Come on, let's go. Don't you want to?
Come, come, come!
That's it! Come!
Go!
Go!
Go, go, go!
Come here!
Go!
Go, go!
Take the fence off now!
Come on, Bobino, go!
Look at them fighting. Beautiful!
Wow, look at that!
She's strong, isn't she!
Already having the blues, Fabrice?
Oh, no! No chance of that today!
- Cheesed off about school tomorrow? - That's right.
Right, guys!
Call them to say I'm ill tomorrow.
So I can stay here.

This Is What Meghan Markle Eats In A Day - Duration: 3:25.
Between her impressive career and work ethic, her effortlessly gorgeous aesthetic, and her
wealth of knowledge on all things lifestyle, people are clamoring for more details on all
aspects of Meghan Markle's life.
Chief among those topics are her food preferences and eating habits — because, let's be honest,
she's got "Health Goals," "Life Goals," and "Squad Goals" all rolled into one.
Here's what the lady who is marrying Harry eats on the regular.
Juice jolt
While most people rely on caffeine for energy when that mid-afternoon slump hits, Markle
takes a different approach.
She told Delish that green juice is a, quote, "food-as-medicine philosophy" for her, and
told Shape that she relies on it and kombucha to help keep her going during long hours on
set.
She elaborated on this in an interview with TODAY:
"If I blend some apple, kale, spinach, lemon and ginger in my Vitamix in the morning and
bring it to work, I always find that sipping on that is a much better boost than a cup
of espresso."
California love
Growing up in Los Angeles led Markle to embrace fresh, whole foods as a way of life.
As she explained to the lifestyle blog EyeSwoon, Californians ...
"... are so spoiled with our produce there, and my love of simple ingredients prepped
well is completely linked to that."
Her California faves?
Chopped salads, sushi, grilled fish tacos, and acai bowls.
Which brings us to ...
Her breakfast favorite
The owner of Revitasize, Markle's favorite Toronto-based fresh juice shop, told E! News
that Markle used to come in multiple times per week for her beloved acai bowls with a
rotating blend of superfoods added in.
Markle also provided her favorite acai bowl recipe to EyeSwoon, noting that it's an indispensable
part of her morning routine.
Weekend indulgence
Markle doesn't totally cut herself off from less-than-healthy foods — especially on
the weekends.
Speaking to Delish, she explained that she's come to embrace Canadian specialties like
poutine, which is French fries covered in gravy and cheese curds!
"Mmm!
That's really good!"
She told EyeSwoon that macaroni and cheese is one of her all-time favorites, along with
other kid-friendly fare:
"I throw some frozen peas into it and have this gooey, simple, childlike meal.
I used to cook it for the kids I would babysit and I always enjoyed feeling like a kid and
eating it with them.
I'm also not averse to eating tater tots.
With ketchup and sriracha."
Kitchen tricks
Markle's love of food and cooking means that she has some fantastic culinary tricks up
her sleeve.
For example, she explained to Delish that she likes to add a squeeze of lemon juice
to steaks before serving them.
She also has a strategy for making a surprisingly rich pasta sauce: slow-cooking a zucchini
for four to five hours, which leads to a quote, "filthy, sexy mush":
"The sauce gets so creamy you'd swear there's tons of butter and oil in it, but it's just
zucchini, water and a little bouillon."
Go-to snacks
Speaking with TODAY, Markle explained that carrots with hummus and crackers is her "trifecta
snack."
While the combination may sound surprisingly simple, she says …
"... it satisfies so many senses — the savory taste, the textural crunch, the unctuousness
of the hummus."
She also enjoys making kale chips drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with Himalayan
pink sea salt, calling them her "healthy potato chip alternative."
This girl loves greens so much, she even grills them …
"You can grill lettuce and it has the most amazing flavor."
"I've never heard of that."
"It holds up!"

here in Switzerland,
to teach you to speak and write French.
Bye.
