Cherubs, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte by George Seurat is one

of the most recognizable images in the world, and it's a strange scene.

It features a collection of people who have come together, from different social classes,

to lounge in this idyllic landscape on a perfectly sunny day.

They all have exceptional posture and they wear beautiful clothes.

The image has appeared so frequently in my visual experience that I had never really

paused to think about just how quirky this is.

This could be because the more obvious talking point is the style of the painting- the painting

represents the start of pointillism.

It's a huge canvas covered in dots of paint.

The awe that this inspires perhaps kept me from questioning the composition..

I mean, it's just a bunch of dots, how could someone take the time to do this?

But the composition is interesting, if we can get over process and take a look at it.

Everyone is rigidly posed.

Very few people actually interact.

Look at these two, walking together perfectly upright, perfectly separated.

Of the forty or so characters depicted, only a small fraction seem to be aware of anyone

else in the image.

Even if they appear in a group with others, they seem remarkably alone… and this loneliness

becomes even more pronounced when you stand a bit closer to the canvas, or zoom in closer

on a high definition image of the picture (I'll put a link below).

The characters don't really have faces… the primary marker in distinguishing individuality.

They're simultaneously lumped together as generically human and completely alone.

On the surface this painting looks like such a lovely scene, with the sun shining and boats

passing by, but once I actually started looking at it I became really sad.

I started to understand why the philosopher Ernst Bloch once described this painting as

a "landscape of painted suicide".

This was painted in the 1880's, a period when the population of Paris was spiking due

to a blossoming industrial economy.

There must have been a certain sense of solitude within those unprecedented masses-- a feeling

of lost individuality and an impersonal relationship with the sea of humanity that surrounded each

person individually.

Which brings me back to the first thought everyone has when they see this image: it's

just a bunch of dots.

Rather than mix the pigments on his pallet, Seurat used individual dots of color that

don't look like much of anything until you stand a few feet away from the canvas.

All these dots exist alone… without interacting with the dots around them.

This seems to represent the cultural paradox of extreme urbanization-- that even though

people are consolidated and closer to each other, the actual human experience is one

of loneliness, a loneliness good art tries to rescue..

So here's a question I'm left with.

This painting is extremely well known today, but the artist couldn't sell it in his lifetime.

Why is it so widely distributed today even though it was ignored when it was produced?

The Metropolitan museum of art even voted against purchasing the painting in 1911, and

yet today the painting seems inescapable.

What about this image has appealed to our culture the last few decades?

Ravioli stuffed with asparagus

Ingredients for 25 ravioli diameter 6 cm: 200 g semolina 100 g of water 350 g asparagus 60 g cashew flour 1 shallot oil and salt

Mix semolina, water and salt

Rest the dough for 1 hour

Cook shallot stalks of asparagus and oil for 5 minutes

Add the asparagus tips, salt and cook for another 5 minutes

Pureed asparagus and cashew flour

Roll out the dough into the pastry 1 mm thick

Arrange the asparagus filling on top of the first puff pastry

Close with the second sheet, cut into ravioli shape

Cook the ravioli in boiling salted water

Season with oil, walnut kernels and parsley

I congratulate you on your brilliant performance at the Olympics, of course, congratulate you on your medals which you've brought for our country.

Some time has passed away, have you managed to have a rest, to relax?

Only one day has passed away after our return. At the airport our fans lifted our spirits, they were meeting us with flags, and we felt we were a team!

To say the truth, no, I haven't managed to relax, because yesterday the shedule was very busy too.

However, let's return to the events in Korea, to the Olympics: 2 silver medals.

With hand on your heart, what is it for you? Is it a joy, that you have two medals (for you and for our country)?

Or is it anyway a bitterness, that none of these medals is gold?

It is rather a joy. The Olympics were my dream from my early childhood. Even when I was a small girl, I was thinking: "this!"

I remember I had my first interview... "What would you like to be?" Well, I didn't say, that I'd like to be an Olympic champion, that I'd like to skate at Olympics.

I just dreamed of feeling the Olympics... and now I return with a medal, with TWO medals! So it is a joy.

I can't but ask about your emotions and sentiment now, I'll tell why. Why I can understand your disappointment either.

In my life (we were talking with you about that) I had a defeat, more than one defeat.

During many years - or I'd better say during 2 seasons - I had been winning all the competitions,

like you had been winning all the events in which you had participated,

then at the Europeans (just like you) I lost to my rival for the first time, to the one who had been practicing in the same group with me.

I was completely torn up.

It seems you had the same situation at the Europeans, when you lost to Alina Zagitova.

Now the Olympics is over. I understand, that it is not a pleasant topic,

but could you tell in a nutshell maybe what's going on inside you? (it is important for our dear viewers)

I'm a person who... yes, I give in to emotions. It happens, but usually nobody sees that.

Usually it happens in the depth of night or when I'm alone in my room.

I shut in my room to sort out my feelings, alone, in silence.

I try not to give way to such emotions, because I understand, that in my case it is just a dead-end road.

These Olympics and Europeans became a lesson for me. I guess I'll remember this lesson throughout my life.

You practice in one group with Alina Zagitova, under Eteri Georgievna.

I know, that in many interviews Alina and you were telling, that often you even help her in some real-life situations. How do your relations develop?

Actually, I'm a non-confrontational person, I feel how I should skirt contentious issues.

I feel, that the talk is on the way to a conflict, and I try to avoid it.

So in everyday life... we are human beings. All of us are human beings. We socialize.

And if I see, that a person really needs help, I will help. If I really can help somehow.

As for the sport... maybe I said quite harshly at the press-conference at the Olympics, yet after the Olympics I really can say so:

sport is a war, where one has to fight and to gnaw. When you go to the ice, all the skaters from your warm-up and from other warm-ups are your rivals,

in some sense you feel they are your enemies (not personal enemies, but physical ones) - and you need to beat them.

There was a phrase in your answer: "I skirt contentious issues"... some controversies. Did you have ones?

There is no relashionship without controversies. In my opinion, after some small conflicts, if we find a decision, the relashionship becomes stronger.

I would't say, that I like small controversies, but I'm OK with them, I treat them as a matter of course. No two ways about it.

Did you communicate with Alina after FP (in the individual competition)?

After the individual competition? Yes, sure. I guess the first thing that I did - I ran to congratulate her.

The girl has won the Olympic title! It happens not every day, sorry.

Then we were sitting side by side in the plane. Unfortunately, Alina was sick, her temperature rised, she slept all the time in the plane.

So I can't say, that we didn't want to communicate, we just coudn't do that, because the girl was sick.

Tell, please, what do you think: does the presence of Alina in your group help you to develop as a figure skater?

Or the other way round, does it create an unfavourable climate for working?

I can remember our work with my coach Alexei Nikolayevich Mishin at the time when I practiced in one group with Zhenya Plushenko...

it is a mini rivalry not only at events, but even at trainings: one has done something, another one sees that - we have eyes -

you want to do the same, strain after it. Then you do something, your competitor watches you and makes progress either.

So does the presence of Alina helps you to develop or is it a deterrent from the viewpoint of psyche?

When you always have to see somebody who watches you and wants to become stronger than you, it is like the stairs, on which we outrun one another.

Yes, it whips up. It whips up, it makes you move on, but sometimes you should bonnet this fire in your eyes, in your body -

when you feel, that your competitor outruns you, that you want to become stronger, that you CAN be stronger...

sometimes we should bonnet this fire, because it can do harm, because injuries are the main enemy for an athlete.

It is important to remember, that reckless behavior (when you try to use the strength which you are not ready to use at the moment)

can end up with irreversible consequences, with injuries which won't let you work for the result anymore, even if you'd like to.

My Bonneville Land Speed Record Attempt… - Duration: 13:16.

well good morning YouTube welcome to the Bonneville Salt Flats here in Utah we're

gonna have some fun today it is a beautiful day up here in the mountains

we're on BLM land obviously you see I'm ready for an adventure today on the TW

200 look at this a strange strange place yeah this is the site of several land

speed records of the past I think the 60s or 70s was the last time

any record was broken out here but people still come out here to try and

today we're gonna have some fun on the bike before we get out of here so let's

see if we can break some records out here what do you say

what do you guys think of my view the salt flats out there it almost looks

like snow off in the distance nope just salt Utah is so strange I feel

like I'm in another country which reminds me when was the last time like I

even saw another human being it's been four or five days you could have fooled

me as far as I know it's just Jax and I out here in the world

apocalypse and that's fine by me boy boy I want to stay here one more night and

then we'll head out in the morning for new adventures on east on the Lincoln

Highway Wow yeah let's stay here one more night does

that does that make you feel better about yourself when you scratch that

thing won't go aside I'm glad I got leash go okay go play outside Oh

flop that a desert flop

like my duct-tape work there guys how's that look

yeah go ahead and stick around till the end maybe I'll put a blooper in at the

very end of the video but the lens is broke and the holder for the lens is

broke so I need to pick up a new one of these soon eventually sometime anyway

blooper at the end maybe well I tell you I have used the bike a lot out here at

this site right here just three miles to Lincoln Highway is a little gas station

down there tourist shop since I love this place so much I got a Bonneville

Salt Flats blue magnet and it features the blue flame which is a famous famous

rig that was out here rig it's a flying machine basically I may have been wrong

about my stats but in 1970 the blue flame same spot where I had the bike out

here earlier a couple days ago he hit 622 miles per hour

they call it a flying rocket because it's literally like above the ground

there in the Salt Flats but that's fast that's a that's a fast rig a Blatz

burger

hey checking back in guys do you know this is actually day four out here

that's right mmm in the past if I ever did something

like this I may not talk with you guys as much I may not share as much I may

just let three or four days in the same spot go by and try to keep the content

fresh but in this case you know I I really felt like I needed this I really

felt like I just wanted to do non touristy stuff for a little bit and just

kind of experience nature so that's why this video probably has a totally

different feel than normal because it's not like going out and looking for

quirky stuff it's about just living the RV life in the middle of the desert off

solar and a couple times I've tilted the panels in the middle of the day I don't

think it does much this time of year you know especially when the Sun moves over

there and they're tilted you'll actually get less so it's better to keep them

flat for the most part it's been pretty windy out here I did have a fire last

night well my propane fire it was really nice and peaceful and it's kind of

strange being in the middle of nowhere and then just to have a fire and wonder

if people can see you from like miles away singing to yourself and dancing

around like like an idiot but I love it it's fun

Jax loves it out here and like I said from time to time things may just feel a

little different out here this Lincoln Highway trip is not all about Lincoln

Highway it's also about just relaxing and seeing new nature and I love Utah

the weather is perfect boy have I earned this sunshine oh my goodness I've earned

it a lot as for the water situation you see I've got the three levelers out on

my tires on this side that's because on the other side of my RV this will make

sense do I think I tried to explain this before but since I was sloping down that

way a little bit where the pump is it's basically on this side of the RV for the

water tank if you're tilted too much you can have water in the tank and not be

able to pump it through your system so by kinking that back up like that

essentially what I did was I allowed there to be a little

more water and it looks like I have more water than I thought I did and that

being the main reason actually why I stayed here another couple days so I was

gonna have to get on the road for fresh water and then I didn't then I was happy

so when I preach to you guys that if I find an opportunity to top off water I

always do it I mean it guys even if I know I'm a 3/4 full of water if I get

the opportunity to bring the hose out and top it off I always want to because

it could be all the difference at the tail end of a boondocking trip where you

love it so much but guess what you got a lead because you're out of water and

actually I may have to Oh like why am i hearing myself I was rendering the video

that you're watching yeah hang on anyways world I'm gonna be saying

goodbye to the silver island mountains here in Utah and getting back on the

road I would have to say out of all the places I've been in the last two months

in this country this is my favorite spot absolutely

it's not even that remote I mean I can get back to Lincoln Highway in three

minutes on the bike I think a lot of my viewers out there have gotten really

used to me traveling around and sharing quirky stuff and moving every single day

so often times when I post a video like this it gets a lot less views it gets a

lot of hateful comments it gets random hundreds of more thumbs down because a

lot of the people out there think it's my job to entertain you with fresh

quirky content and I've been that to myself in a lot of ways but you know I I

do feel it's important to point out that this was a lot more fun than traveling

staying here at this spot here for me and so as a future retirement planned I

may do more of this in 20 30 years of YouTube still around

oh okay I gotta see new stuff too it's all good I understand you guys are just

around for the journey you can express your opinions all you like I'll take

that into consideration but be mindful that this is my life

my sanity as well I'm the one out here talking to a camera with nobody for

three square miles around me so guys have a wonderful terrific day Jackson

rig that was out here rig it's a flying machine basically I may have been wrong

about my stats but in 1970 the blue flame same spot where I had the bike out

here earlier a couple days ago he hit 622 miles per hour

they call it a flying rocket because it's literally like above the ground

there in the Salt Flats but that's fast that's a that's a fast rig a Blatz

hey checking back in guys do you know this is actually day four out here

that's right mmm in the past if I ever did something

like this I may not talk with you guys as much I may not share as much I may

just let three or four days in the same spot go by and try to keep the content

fresh but in this case you know I I really felt like I needed this I really

felt like I just wanted to do non touristy stuff for a little bit and just

kind of experience nature so that's why this video probably has a totally

different feel than normal because it's not like going out and looking for

quirky stuff it's about just living the RV life in the middle of the desert off

solar and a couple times I've tilted the panels in the middle of the day I don't

think it does much this time of year you know especially when the Sun moves over

there and they're tilted you'll actually get less so it's better to keep them

flat for the most part it's been pretty windy out here I did have a fire last

night well my propane fire it was really nice and peaceful and it's kind of

strange being in the middle of nowhere and then just to have a fire and wonder

if people can see you from like miles away singing to yourself and dancing

around like like an idiot but I love it it's fun

Jax loves it out here and like I said from time to time things may just feel a

little different out here this Lincoln Highway trip is not all about Lincoln

Highway it's also about just relaxing and seeing new nature and I love Utah

the weather is perfect boy have I earned this sunshine oh my goodness I've earned

it a lot as for the water situation you see I've got the three levelers out on

my tires on this side that's because on the other side of my RV this will make

sense do I think I tried to explain this before but since I was sloping down that

way a little bit where the pump is it's basically on this side of the RV for the

water tank if you're tilted too much you can have water in the tank and not be

able to pump it through your system so by kinking that back up like that

essentially what I did was I allowed there to be a little

more water and it looks like I have more water than I thought I did and that

being the main reason actually why I stayed here another couple days so I was

gonna have to get on the road for fresh water and then I didn't then I was happy

so when I preach to you guys that if I find an opportunity to top off water I

always do it I mean it guys even if I know I'm a 3/4 full of water if I get

the opportunity to bring the hose out and top it off I always want to because

it could be all the difference at the tail end of a boondocking trip where you

love it so much but guess what you got a lead because you're out of water and

actually I may have to Oh like why am i hearing myself I was rendering the video

that you're watching yeah hang on anyways world I'm gonna be saying

goodbye to the silver island mountains here in Utah and getting back on the

road I would have to say out of all the places I've been in the last two months

in this country this is my favorite spot absolutely

it's not even that remote I mean I can get back to Lincoln Highway in three

minutes on the bike I think a lot of my viewers out there have gotten really

used to me traveling around and sharing quirky stuff and moving every single day

so often times when I post a video like this it gets a lot less views it gets a

lot of hateful comments it gets random hundreds of more thumbs down because a

lot of the people out there think it's my job to entertain you with fresh

quirky content and I've been that to myself in a lot of ways but you know I I

do feel it's important to point out that this was a lot more fun than traveling

staying here at this spot here for me and so as a future retirement planned I

may do more of this in 20 30 years of YouTube still around

oh okay I gotta see new stuff too it's all good I understand you guys are just

around for the journey you can express your opinions all you like I'll take

Korean Air's Cho Hyun-min relieved of duty following her "gapjil" controversy - Duration: 2:14.

Four years ago, Korean Air's heiress made headlines by ordering a taxiing plane to head

back to the gate because she was unhappy with how her nuts were served.

Now, another daughter of the company is in hot water... for her own display of deeply

embedded sense of entitlement.

According to our Kan Hyeong-woo... this latest incident further enraged the public..... who

witnessed the unchanging attitudes by the rich and powerful for too long.

Korean Air is once again under fire.

Last week, Senior Vice President Cho Hyun-min, daughter of the company's chairman, made headlines

for allegedly throwing a bottle of water at an advertising firm manager in a meeting last

month.

Cho denies throwing the bottle at the man, but admits that she did push him.

Korean Air officials said Monday that Cho has been removed from her duties until police

finish investigating.

And audio recordings newly released by local internet news media... reveal Cho yelling

at another person, presumed to be a subordinate.

Although she has apologized for what she called her "foolish behavior," local police launched

a preliminary investigation… after the incident was first reported.

The police are said to be looking into whether the heiress abused her power or broke any

laws.

Cho's powerful family has been embroiled in scandal before.

Cho Hyun-min is the younger sister of Cho Hyun-ah, infamous for the so-called "nut rage"

incident four years ago... in which she ordered a taxiing aircraft back to the gate in New

York... because she was unhappy with the way a flight attendant had served her macadamia

nuts.

Cho Hyun-ah was found guilty of violating aviation law and sentenced to a year in jail

but she was released after an appeal.

A petition launched last Friday on the website of the presidential office... has so far been

signed by more than 55-thousand Koreans... demanding that the airline remove the word

"Korean" from its name and stop using a Korean national symbol as its logo,... saying the

owners' behavior "degrades" the country and the company.

In their reports, foreign news outlets have explained the concept of "gapjil",... the

unfortunate cultural practice of some executives in Korea who abuse subordinates and contractors.

Top diplomats of China and Japan hold talks on handling North Korea issue, hoping to set ... - Duration: 2:44.

As the date for North Korea's historic summits with Seoul and Washington inch closer... neighboring

countries are jostling for position to raise their voices in the negotiation.

Beijing and Tokyo are a part of that diplomatic blitz crowd.

Over in Japan, their foreign ministers held a rare meeting.

Lee Ji-won shares with us what was discussed.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited his Japanese counterpart Taro Kono in Tokyo on

Sunday to discuss ways to improve their relationship, as well as the issue of North Korea's nuclear

program.

It marked the first time in eight years for China's top diplomat to visit Japan alone.

At the meeting, the two sides agreed that the countries should continue to impose economic

sanctions on North Korea,... and that China and Japan must closely cooperate to achieve

their common goal.

"I hope our two countries can work together towards our common goals and cooperate together

so North Korea will completely and irreversibly denuclearize in a verifiable manner."

The two sides also shared thoughts on thawing their frosty relations, including to agree

on seeing their disputed territory regarding the East China Sea as an area of peace, cooperation

and friendship.

"I see this meeting as Japan having a forward-looking view towards relations with China.

Through this visit, I hope during the high-level exchange, we can exchange opinions."

This comes after Beijing and Tokyo saw their ties strained to the limit from a dispute

over the ownership of a group of uninhabited islets in the East China Sea, known as Senkaku

in Japanese and Diaoyu in Chinese.

The two foreign ministers also held the 4th China-Japan High-Level Economic Dialogue on

Monday.

But some experts say the thawing of Tokyo-Beijing relations could be down to Seoul and Washington's

upcoming summits with North Korea.

"Japan is concerned that the U.S. might not be actively responsible for its safety,...

so it's reaching out its hand to China.

Also, Japan fears being shut out of negotiations on North Korea's nuclear program, and China,

on the same note, wants to take Pyongyang's nuclear issue into multi-party talks."

Japan's foreign minister had in fact visited South Korea for the first time in over two

years last week, with North Korea being one of the issues discussed.

The expert said Japan will continue to highlight its diplomatic presence,... but with U.S.

President Trump preferring direct talks with North Korea, whether or not talks with the

North will develop into multi-party ones remains to be seen.

Coordinated air strikes on Syria and its impact on North Korea - Duration: 2:40.

In response to Bashar Assad's recent chemical attack on civilians... the U.S., Britain and

France launched precision airstrikes at three targets in Syria.

While the attack was meant to send a strong message to the regime... concerns grow over

its side effects... including how the move could alarm North Korea.

Here's Cha Sang-mi with a closer look.

President Trump addressed the U.S. from the White House last Friday, local time, saying

he had given the order for the U.S. military -- in conjunction with Britain and France

-- to launch airstrikes on Syria.

The airstrikes came around a week after an alleged chemical weapons attack on civilians

in the rebel-held town of Douma on April 7th.

The Pentagon confirmed the airstrikes hit three sites: a scientific research facility

in the capital, Damascus, and chemical weapons storage facilities, as well as an important

command post near Homs.

Speaking at a briefing late Friday,...

U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis said the strikes were to send a strong message to Syrian

President Bashar al-Assad.

"But right now this is a one time shot and I believe that it sent a very strong message

to dissuade him (Assad), to deter him from doing this again."

And there's some debate over that message, and whether it was simply targeting the Syrian

president or also aimed at North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, ahead of the expected U.S.-North

Korea summit.

"The North Korea will kind of feel frightened or concerned about the recent strike on Syria.

Clearly the focus of the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is how his regime would be guaranteed

in security and safety."

However, another expert says the United States has been taking a very different approach

for the Middle East and North Korea, and Washington was always hesitant to use direct military

power against Pyongyang.

"There was always a very wide divergence between the U.S. policies towards the Middle East

and North Korea.

Even if there was a need to react to North Korean challenges always the U.S avoided using

military force.

So I think the Syrian airstrikes will not alarm North Korea overly much."

The expert added that rather than the airstrikes against Syria, Pyongyang will be more interested

in the U.S. relationships with Russia and China,... and that the U.S. trade war with

China and confrontation with Russia over Syria could benefit Pyongyang when it comes to negotiations

with Washington.

Chinese President Xi Jinping might visit North Korea in June... following the summit between

Washington and Pyongyang.

Citing multiple sources,...

Japanese daily Yomiuri Shimbun says the matter appears to have been discussed when the regime's

leader Kim Jong-un and Song Tao,... a senior Chinese diplomat,... met over the weekend.

In a regular briefing on Monday, Beijing's foreign ministry did not confirm that Xi would

be going... but mentioned high level exchanges are important in developing bilateral relations.

According to the ministry, the Chinese leader is open to mutual visits with his North Korean

counterpart... and wants to maintain close engagement through various channels.

When Kim Jong-un went to Beijing himself earlier this month, he did ask that President Xi visit

Pyongyang.

Japan walks tightrope between U.S. and Russia regarding Syria strikes - Duration: 1:46.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has been treading a fine line regarding the U.S.-led

airstrikes on Syria.

This is because the PM is set to hold one on ones with his American and Russian counterparts.

Park Se-young zooms in on Tokyo's reaction.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was quick to respond to the precision airstrikes launched

by the United States, Britain and France on Syria's chemical weapons facilities.

"We fully support the U.S., British and French stance of not permitting the use and spread

of chemical weapons."

Abe added that he will bring up the Syrian issue when he meets with U.S. President Donald

Trump in Florida later this week.

And in a reference to North Korea, he said Japan will work with the U.S. and the international

community to maintain peace and stability in East Asia …amid the growing threat of

nuclear, biological and chemical weapons in the region.

However, with Abe also scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in May, …he

was careful about his wording regarding the military action strongly opposed by Moscow.

Although he expressed support for the reasoning behind the strikes, Abe only expressed "understanding"

for the action taken.

"We also understand that this measure was taken as one to prevent further degradation

of the situation."

With Abe set to discuss Tokyo's territorial dispute with Moscow over the Northern Territories,

the Japanese government has been urged by local media not to antagonize with Russia

before the May summit.

N. Korea goes 'low-key' ahead of summits with S. Korea, U.S., but aims to strengthen ... - Duration: 2:50.

North Korea usually celebrate its founder Kim Il-sung's birthday with various cultural

and military events.

This year, the regime decided to keep it low-key.

But Pyongyang provided a special welcome to the Chinese delegation to strengthen relations

with Beijing.

Oh Jung-hee sheds light on the North's adjustments... made ahead of its summits with Seoul and Washington.

Until last year, North Korea has celebrated April 15th -- the birthday of the regime's

founder Kim Il-sung -- by not only holding various arts and sports events but showing

off its military power.

In 2017, the North launched a Hwasong-12 intermediate range ballistic missile... and held a large

scale military parade.

In 2016, the regime fired a Musudan IRBM.

But this year, no particular military movements of such kind were reported... and Pyongyang,

at its national meeting commemorating the founder's birthday, made no mention of its

nuclear power.

Celebrations were mostly focused on festivals and the current leader Kim Jong-un paying

tribute.

The regime seems to have adopted a 'low-key' policy ahead of its highly anticipated summits

with South Korea and the U.S.

But at the same time, North Korea is also strengthening relations with China.

Over the weekend, Song Tao, the head of the Chinese ruling party's international liaison

department,... arrived in Pyongyang, leading China's art troupe to celebrate Kim Il-sung's

birthday.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un met him face-to-face,... unlike Song's previous visit last November.

Pyongyang's state-run Korean Central News Agency reported...

Kim and Song discussed "issues of mutual concern and the international situation" -- which

could highly likely mean upcoming Washington-Pyongyang summit.

Kim is known to have said it is his duty as (quote)"a close friend" to welcome and specially

treat the delegation... as they were directly sent by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

"If North Korea holds talks with the U.S. without improving its relations with China,

then it would have a very unstable base to fall back on.

China won't be able to minimize or abolish international sanctions, but it can provide

other kinds of support such as daily necessities and rice."

Meanwhile on Sunday, Kim Jong-un's wife Ri Sol-ju watched the Chinese artists' performance,

and for the first time, Pyongyang's state media called Ri the "first lady."

She's been referred to only as Kim Jong-un's wife beforehand.

Experts interpret this as a sign of the regime trying to place itself at the same level with

other nations.

Ri has also accompanied Kim's summit with Xi Jinping... and stood alongside China's

first lady Peng Liyuan.

Hello and welcome to week number 13 of our class! I cannot believe we only have

literally three weeks to go until we're done...this semester has truly flown by!!

This week we're going to be studying chapter 12 which is all about marriage

enjoy the class because all of us can relate to relationships, families etc. So...

if you enjoyed this material consider registering! This week, we are going to be doing a

great overview of marriage and family. Your PowerPoint that I have for you goes

a little bit beyond what your chapter goes through and just know that in terms

of Family Studies, this is the tip of the iceberg. There is so much more to learn!

For something special, we're going to be study polygamy and how it is practiced

by fundamentalist Mormons. When we study this I sometimes have Mormons in my

class and I want everybody to know that we are studying how fundamentalist

Mormons practice polygamy...mainstream Mormons certainly don't and I want to

make that distinction very very clear! I have an excellent video for you along

with an article and then your discussion will be centered around the issue of

polygamy, so I think it'll be an interesting, different topic for us to

study in this chapter so let's go ahead and read and study chapter 12... let's talk

about polygamy and watch an excellent video... and take your quiz! Of course and

please please please be working on those book reviews, they are due in just a

couple of short weeks and I want to make sure you all get those done because remember,

I don't accept late book reviews! You guys have been doing excellent! Thank you

so much for all your hard work and hang in there because we're almost to the

This happens to everyone.

But why it happens?

Let's find.

So, let's start.

To understand why we sound weird when recorded, we need to know how hearing works.

Outside sounds are heard through air conduction,

means sound waves reach our ears through the air medium.

It vibrates our eardrum.

Three small bones present in the ears, amplify these vibrations. Then sound enters the internal ear.

It vibrate the special cells present inside, cells send the signals to brain.

This is how we hear sounds.

We hear our voice through air conduction as well as bone conduction.

Our own voice originates inside our body.

When we speak our muscles and bones and vibrate, especially our skull.

Our internal ear is inside our skull itself, therefore vibrations directly go to our internal ear.

We hear it because of the vibrations in the bones, therefore the name is bone conduction.

But any sound outside our body, can be heard through air conduction only.

But the question is still unresolved!

why our recorded voice seem different.

When we speak, our bones transmit low frequencies more efficiently as compared to air,

that is why our own voice sounds deep to us.

But when we hear our recorded voice, then bone conduction part vanishes, and our voice sounds high pitched.

Interesting thing is, other don't find any difference between your original and recorded voice, because they have heard your voice through air conduction only.

It means your real voice is what others listen or what you hear when recorded.

So, don't worry! Your friends and family has been listening to your this voice since beginning and are used to it.
