Hey, it's Pastor Allen, and we're doing
a study on "Preparing Our Hearts," and
in this particular session, we're going
to talk about "What to Pack for the Adventure."
I like that.
I like to travel, and packing is always a
part of travel - especially if you're going
overseas, what do you need to take - because
you probably can't replenish it if you didn't
get it or you need more.
So your packing becomes a strategic part of
the journey.
Well, it's true in your spiritual journey as well.
I want to make three simple suggestions in
this session.
One, is you want to be sure and pack your prayer life.
In James, chapter 5, it says if you're in trouble, pray.
It doesn't say if you're in trouble panic,
or if you're in trouble get anxious.
If you're in trouble, pray.
Now I don't know about you, but I feel like
I spend most of my life in trouble.
So I better learn to pray.
Stop saying, "I don't pray," and just
begin to invite God into your daily life.
Some simple one line prayers will help a lot:
"Lord, help me today;" "God, help me
at work today;" "Lord, bless my family
today;" "Give me the strength I need;"
"Lord, forgive me for missing the opportunity today."
Whatever that is, but on a routine basis,
give the Lord a one-line invitation into your life.
It will change everything.
Now, in Corinthians, it says that though we
are many parts, we form one body in Christ.
So the next two items in your packing list,
is we need to pack a little bit of team work
and a little bit of leadership, because we're
going to have to do this together.
Christianity is not an individual sport.
We only make maturity – we only grow up
in the Lord – collectively, together.
Now that's awkward because we're imperfect
folk, and we'll have to learn to love one
another through difficult times, help one
another up when we stumble.
That's easier if you'll know you'll
need help up sometimes.
We all do.
Together, we can grow up in the Lord.
Don't give up if the people around you have
disappointed you or you feel like a disappointment.
God has people in His Body to help us.
I want to pray for you before we go: Lord,
thank You for every person.
I know they're precious to You.
Give us the wisdom to invite You into our
lives, the courage to lead, and the boldness
to do it in community.
Thank You for what You're doing in our generation
and in us, in Jesus' name, amen.
God bless you, and don't you give up!
