New Mexico senator proposes bill to drop Secretary of Education position - Duration: 2:07.

THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO

HAS HAD A BOARD OF

EDUCATION, BUT ONE

SENATOR IS HOPING TO

BRING IT BACK. AN

ALBUQUERQUE DEMOCRAT IS

PROPOSING THE

BOARD, AND SAYS IT WOULD

REPLACE THE SECRETARY OF

EDUCATION . NEWS 13'S

REBECCA ATKINS IS LIVE

IN THE NEWSPLEX WITH

MORE. REBECCA.

DEAN IN 2002, VOTERS DID

AWAY WITH THE STATE

BOARD TO GIVE THE

GOVERNOR FULL POWER TO

DECIDE WHO WOULD HOLD

THE

POWERFUL POSITION OF

SECRETARY OF EDUCATION.

BUT

THIS SENATOR WANTS THAT

POSITION ELIMINATED.

TAKING POLITICS OUT OF

EDUCATION... THAT'S

EXACTLY WHAT SENATOR

MICHAEL PADILLA PLANS TO

DO WITH HIS NEW BILL.

0:22 "Today we have a

situation where we

appoint a secretary of

education, everytime a

governor comes and

goes." 0:28 SENATOR

PADILLA SAYS THE

GOVERNOR DECIDES,

REGARDLESS OF WHAT A

CANDIDATES

QUALIFICATIONS MAY BE.

1:09 "That to me, is

alarming." 1:10 SO THE

ALBUQUERQUE SENATOR,

DECIDED TO COME UP WITH

A BILL ELIMINATING THE

POSITION ENTIRELY. A 10

MEMBER SCHOOL BOARD

WOULD TAKE ITS PLACE.

1:51 "If you have a

question about public

education, you can go

right to them, and

they're you're voice on

the 10 member state

school board." 1:57

PADILLA SAYS THE SCHOOL

BOARD WOULD HIRE OR FIRE

A STATE SCHOOL

SUPERINTENDENT.

3:07 "We should have a

licensed educator in

this role because that

way they would better

understand what's going

on in the classroom

everyday." 3:12 AND

PADILLA ISN'T THE ONLY

ONE HOPING FOR BIG

CHANGE IN STATE

EDUCATION. SENATOR BILL

SOULES OF LAS CRUCES IS

PROPOSING A SIMILAR

BILL.

5:30 "I completely look

forward to working with

him on this because I

think we both have the

same goal in mind." 5:34

BUT, THIS ISN'T THE

FIRST TIME PADILLA HAS

INTRODUCED A BILL OF

THIS KIND. HE FIRST

got it almost all the

way through the

Senate and onto the

Senate floor, but we

were able to do much

more fine tuning." 7:14

HE SAYS HE'S CONFIDENT,

THIS TIME, HIS BILL HAS

A FIGHTING CHANCE.

4:31 "With the

composition of the

legislature changing the

way that it just did, I

think we're in much

better shape to get this

all the way through."

4:36

SENATOR PADILLA HAS

ALREADY INTRODUCED THE

BILL, SO HE ANTICIPATES

IT WILL BE HOTLY DEBATED

EARLY IN THE LEGISLATIVE

SESSION. DEAN BACK TO

YOU.

OKAY REBECCA. SENATOR

PADILLA SAYS IF BOTH THE

HOUSE AND THE SENATE

SUPPORT THIS BILL, IT

WILL GO STRAIGHT TO THE

VOTERS IN 2018.

Interviews w/ Creative Women- Martina Valarezo Retórica - Duration: 3:48.

The project "Retórica, letrada o labiosa"

started as an inquiry about the everyday language...

in connection to... or referring to the language

that we use to insult

to make fun of other people

and that usually refers to

sexuality and, above all, to femininity.

It uses women and femininity to insult and denigrate.

From there, it expanded to

a personal search

so I decided to go out of my own bubble

and talk with other women

to know about their experiences too

and how they see this language?

how they handle it?

how do they react to it?

You repeat what your mom

your grandma, your greatgrandma said

and so on until

we get to Adam and Eve.

In that sense it really

caught my attention

that in Spain "la solterona" (the bachelorette)

is demeaning

very demeaning

and the bachelor is

like a golden boy.

We always find that huge gap

through the language

how we model it

Yes of course here too.

Being a bachelorette

is a bad thing.

One of the most decisive moments

of the project

was when I realized that

I could do so much with it.

That there are many ways

to interpret these voices

these female testimonies.

While I was drawing and writing

while I was listening to these experiences

that I already had talked about

and that I had recorded

I was thinking about

all the ways to present them

of drawing, or painting them

and even just present the audio as it is

let these voices be heard

Sometimes words are like breathing or a heart beating, powerful and vital

but also unconscious. They repeat themselves

their bricks build ideas on us the people.

Choi Soon-sil denies most allegations against her, but said she's ready for life imprisonment - Duration: 2:41.

We begin with a special in-jail parliamentary hearing.

Members of a bi-partisan parliamentary committee investigating the biggest political scandal

of the year... had to travel to a detention center in Seoul to question the woman at the

heart of the case.

Was it a productive outing?

Park Jiwon starts us off with what they got out of the unusual approach.

The session was held behind closed doors for two and half hours,... and only eight of the

18 panel members were allowed in.

During the meeting, Choi apologized for the confusion she caused to the nation... but

denied most of the allegations against her.

The chair of the special committee panel said Choi hardly answered to any questions faithfully.

:YTN "Choi Soon-sil said she is very much sick

due to depression and cardiac disorders, and the panel had much difficulty in progressing

the session, as she hardly gave any sincere answer."

The panel of lawmakers said she denied most allegations, and said she does not know other

key figures involved in the scandal,... such as former senior presidential secretary Woo

Byung-woo and former presidential chief of staff Kim Ki-choon.

Lawmakers also said that Choi said she's prepared for life imprisonment.

They added Choi became very sensitive when she was asked about her daughter's issue.

"She cried when her daughter's issue was raised.

She didn't seem to show remorse or be guilty on other charges, but she shed tears regarding

her daughter's matters."

Choi's lawyer issued a statement that the session violates the court's decision that

her client is not allowed to see anyone but him until mid-January.

The committee said in response... that it is executing the official duties of parliament...

and the visit was therefore not in violation of the law.

Meanwhile, other six panel members held a similar closed-door session at another detention

center with former presidential secretaries Jeong Ho-sung and Ahn Jong-beom.

Park's former personal secretary Jeong acknowledged that he regularly sent official documents

to Choi,.. saying President Park trusted Choi a lot, and they two held frequent discussions

on diverse matters.

Former senior presidential secretary for policy coordination Ahn Jong-beom said he just followed

President Park's instructions... in regards to allegations that two government-linked

foundations, the Mir and K-Sports Foundations,... forced big corporations to pay hundreds of

millions of dollars in donations.

Park Ji-won, Arirang News.
