(Bobby) On game day, I don't play for me
I play for the crowd, for the people
I started out playing drums on all my mother's furniture
So my dad bought me a set of drums
and I was playing in a band, getting paid, when I was in 8th grade.
Now it's different
because I'm doing the payout.
I'm the proprietor, the owner
I think that's the curse of being a manager having a business
It's all gonna fall back on the company.
(Lisa) Music is everything to us.
Bobby and I have a marriage and a small business, the band
represents us, and when it comes down to the entertainment industry
you don't have but one chance to make it right.
(Bobby) I always knew my wife.
Her father was a minister at a church that I played drums at.
I asked her one night to come to a club where I was singing
I took the mic, I went to her table,
I got down on my knees and I sang to her.
And her response was "I know Bobby's not playing with me"
I got lucky man. She does it all.
She sings, she books, arranges shows,
we do parties, we do balls
weddings, corporate events.
They don't see the blood, sweat, and tears
having to speak with the client
and then putting the right unit together
to fulfill whatever the needs are.
(Lisa) The music industry is difficult.
It's a landmark to say we've even survived 25 years.
My whole life is about this.
I don't know anybody that gives this much for
a small business as I do.
(Bobby) When you get personnell, that's hard
because you gotta look for people that can play the music
and have to look for people with the attitude to
see the dream that I have.
(Lisa) Bobby is very good at bringing musicians together.
He grooms them.
(Bobby) With me it's a total passion.
You have to have that music in your heart, in your soul.
You gotta want to do it every day.
(Lisa) I have to tell you that I quit every week
for 25 years, but I keep coming back
because this is me, I feed off the stress.
Can I walk away? What would life be?
It's something about this industry that just draws you in.
(Bobby) The music scene here is just outstanding.
It's everywhere.
We do everything, I mean, rock and roll, rhythm and blues, gospel
(Lisa) The musicians here are so soulful and talented.
They all have something to offer.
It's taken for granted though.
(Bobby) If you shut the music down, we'd ruin the economy.
Restaurants, venues, you have to have music,
it just has to be there.
(Lisa) Small businesses need each other.
We have to work together.
(Bobby) Imagine walking down Bourbon Street with no music

(Lisa) Even though sometimes it's stressful
when I see the band enjoying themselves
because they're feeding off the audience
then I know that you've succeeded.
It's about crossing mountains, going through valleys
to get where you want to go.
I wanna see everybody smiling.

(Bobby VO) Because of my passion
because I never want to give it up, I've lost a lot
but I believe it's worth it.
When I come on stage after 25 years, it's a zone.
I just feel like I'm in my own world.
I don't see the audience.
I know the band is behind me but I don't see the band.
Everything that I'm hearing is inside me.
The band, I'm hearing and I'm feeling inside me.
The audience, I'm looking dead at them
but I'm feeling them inside me.
I don't know how I could explain it no better than that.
New Orleans is inside me.
I play for New Orleans.
