I`m here at Yanagawa City
Yanagawa is one of Fukuoka Prefecture`s most famous sightseeing spots.
I`m very curious what I can discover here. Let`s go and check the city out!
Yanagawa City can be easily access from Nishitetsu Tenjin Station in 50min, without changing the train.
Yanagawa City is representing one Fukuoka Prefecture's most famous sightseeing spots.
Yanagawa is known primarily for its hundreds of kilometers of canals.
In the past, the area was mainly wetland. To improve drainage of the city, canals where build all over the city.
Nowadays, these canals are used for taking tourists on short cruises in riverboats. It`s called Kawakudari in Japanese which means literally going down the river,
Our presenter Kin got the chance to try the Kawakudari boat tour at Shogetsu Punting Station.
All information are available in English, Korean, Mandarin and Cantonese.
The price for adults is ￥1600, and for children ￥800.
This boat tour starts from the Shogetu Punting Station and ends at Okinohata.

In Japan there are buildings along the river. You can see the scenery around while walking
In China, sightseeing areas and residential areas are separated. So it's really interesting to be at a place like this.
It looks like that you can`t pass under the bridge If you don't have a flexible body.

The boatman sings folk songs, that have been passed down over generations.
The emotional voice of the signing boatman combined with view from the ship are the unique charm of Yanagawa.
We arrived at our destination point, called Okinohata.
Okinohata was a fishing village before.
These days, you still can feel the glory of past eras and it's also popular stroll spot.
It's a calm area
Here you can really calm down and relax
In Japanese, you say Ochitsuku to express that you calm down.
It feels really good being here at this quiet and calm place.
You can enjoy the area around with it's beautiful view while you take a stroll.
At Wakamatsuya restaurant you can get a taste of Yanagawa's local cuisine famous for steamed eel, called "Unagi no seiro-mushi".
Unagi no seiro-mushi is steamed eel on top of rice. The rice is mixed with characteristic tare sauce.
This is what Yanagawa is famous for!

In Okinohata you can find a museum named Ohana. There you can learn many things about the history of Yanagawa City.
From early February to late March Sagemon decorations are displayed in the streets of Yanagawa.
During that time you can experience a quiet different atmosphere of the City so you should check it out if you can.
My trip ends here
I took a interesting riverboat tour and had a very delicious steamed eel dish.
I learned many things about the City's history as well and at the end of my trip, I took a relaxing stroll.
I highly recommend this place as a sightseeing spot.
