Portable Journalism: An international network of stories. - Duration: 1:49.

In the year 2000 I took a laptop, a

digital camera, and I left my home in

Chile to write and cover. My office was

the cyber cafe. My stories were published

in media in latin america. I wrote my

first books and I led workshops on how to

survive by writing stories around the

world. In the year 2009 in Buenos Aires I

founded the School of Portable

Journalism (Escuela de Periodismo Portatil)

which offered

storytelling workshops to Spanish writers

and journalists. Today we have teachers in

Latin America, Spain, and the United

States. During online workshops for

students connected in more than 200

cities the School of Portable Journalism

in alliance with the University of

Guadalajara Mexico created

Nuevas Plumas, a prize for young writers

more than 1,000 new journalists have

participated. Here at Stanford

University we are developing the next step

in portable journalism: A platform

that connects the new journalism talent

with media. In Silicon Valley we created

the first census of freelance journalists in

Spanish. Portable journalism is education,

is connection, is opportunity, but really

it's a way of life.
