Youtube daily report Jun 22 2017

Oh, hi there.

This is Barry your sort of anonymous and somewhat boring host.

And in this video, George and I will show you how we here

at Think Tank TV PH record our audio for our Youtube videos

with the most budget friendly yet highly efficient audio equipment

to produce the best price to performance ratio

that many start up Youtubers and podcasters can benefit from.

♫Static Noise♫

So last episode, we had a handful of people saying

that having comedic commentary and memes included was excessive

and just downright annoying.

In the previous scene,

I tried my best to do the plain jane informational approach.

Sorry guys...

It's just not my cup of tea.

Gotta have that flare,

that punch!

just like how George and I will show you

how having decent audio equipment can make or break

the impact of Youtubers' and podcasters' feature presentations!

After we roll out the intro!

♫ROLL INTRO♫

Having great looking video with the best vlogging point and shoots,

DSLRs,

and the latest and greatest phones

will still suck if it isn't matched with crispy noise free crystal clear audio.

Majority of content creators are so engrossed on video quality

and don't stop to think that a lot of Youtube views

are actually listened to while multitasking on something else.

Now if you're audio is crap, guess what?

Most likely they will click onto the next video.

Don't believe me?

Here's an analogy.

Ever watched a pirated movie that was obviously recorded

straight from a movie screen [and had] crappy acoustics?

Oh common, don't deny it.

You know you're guilty.

Pare, I'm a cop.

I kid! Just kidding!

Just like you, we here at ThinkTank TV PH do not condone piracy

and gotta show support to the creative minds that bring us the best of entertainment.

More so, we uphold high bitrate audio recordings

without breaking the bank with the following tools! Lets start off with

the XLR mic we use majority of the time, which is the Audio Technica AT2035.

Aside from the fact that this has a matte black rugged construction,

personally I believe that this is the best sub $150

entry level pro-sumer XLR cardioid large diaphragm microphone

because of its ease to handle sound pressure levels.

It is the younger brother of the more commonly used

Audio Technica mic here in the Philippines, the AT2020 USB version.

So what makes this an upgrade from the older bro?

Firstly, it boasts a switchable 80 Hz high pass filter

and a -10 dB padding to help with the noise floor.

I betcha you're scratching your head right now wondering what

does this mumbo jumbo uber technical lingo is all about?

So, noise floor is that hiss,

that sound of supposed silence.

That's the background noise even when your neighbor's dog isn't barking,

that rooster isn't cuckoo doodle doing,

or that damn tricycle on the sidewalk isn't trying to ring your ears off.

When you turn on the AT2035's high pass filter,

it practically removes a lot of the low frequencies and humming in your room.

Now regarding the -10 dB padding,

what it does is that it essentially prevents that clipping

or crackling when you raise your voice abruptly every so often.

It is quite forgiving when you squeal the pitch of your voice

and prevents you to have to rerecord a line where

an exciting reaction would be difficult to reenact.

Wow...

Recording with an XLR mic, you can't simply

just connect this straight to your computer.

You must be thinking,

"Damn it Barry, this isn't a budget video.

You're just setting me up for a let down when you tell

me that I'm gonna have to buy a mixer, an amp,

and a bunch more hardware."

Don't worry. I got you guys.

No, no need for all that.

You will only need an Audio Interface for the mic to power up with

and then the interface would attach to your PC or Mac via USB.

I found one for less than $100 in the entry level section of Focusrite,

which is the Scarlett Solo 2nd Generation.

This tiny box allows a single XLR input,

a single instrument feed,

allows you to attach your headphone for monitoring

and allows you to attach RCA outputs in the back.

Oh if you are wondering why my Scarlett Solo

is not Scarlett Red like shown on the box,

it's because I vinyl wrapped it matte black

to match the theme of my desk setup.

Not impressed huh? Since you're thinking…

"Damn it Barry! You're doing it again.

Why don't I just buy a mic that can connect to the computer right off the bat

so I wouldn't have to get an Audio Interface?"

Well, here's where quality over seeds being stingy.

Having an XLR mic doesn't only mean you can record a much fuller and crispier audio.

But because its being recorded in analog,

you can manipulate the highs, mids, and low frequencies and the gains.

This will surely cut hours of editing time needed

when you are trying to master your audio file.

Let me demonstrate to you guys three typical scenarios:

Right now I'm talking to you guys straight

from the built in mic of this Sony A6300.

Yeah, the camera can shoot 4K quality videos.

By the way, do you guys like the quality of my visuals now?

But as you can see and hear the audio is just utter crap.

Crap... Crap and did you hear that?

That was painstakingly crap!

Next in line, I'm speaking to you with a Rode Micro

3.5mm mic that is connected directly to the computer. (He meant camera.)

Its much better than the microphone built in with the A6300.

But it still lacks that "umph,"

that would fill up your viewers' speakers with crystal clear audio.

Last but not the least, let's go back to what you were hearing for most of the video.

This is the AT2035 attached to the Scarlett Solo,

which I've recorded through Audacity with the noise reduction filter to cut

the electric fan whirling,

airconditioning,

dogs barking,

and roosters crowing.

Nope, no equalization or sound effects had to be manipulated

on Garageband or Adobe Audition to attain this crisp sound.

The AT2035 out of the box comes with a shock mount

with 3/8s threading to attach to a mic stand or boom arm

and also with a nice leather bag for storage protection.

At current time of recording, there's a combo package being offered on Amazon by Beach Camera

right now for $189. [It] comes with the AT2035,

the Scarlett Solo,

a Pop Filter with a Mic Stand Clip,

and a 10 foot Monoprice gold plated XLR cable.

That's an instant $60 savings!

Why not apply that extra savings onto

a Boom Arm from Neewer,

a Vertical Surface Mount from Heil Sound,

and a much better looking and

compact pop filter from Sywon?

Do you hear that? That's a crisp and full sounding recording

of the beat of your heart

with the Best Budget Audio Recording Setup for 2017!

Sounds like a good deal to me!

Well this brings us to wrap up this

Audio Technica AT2035 Cardioid Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone

and Focusrite Scarlett Solo 2nd Generation Audio Interface review.

Phewee...

That was a mouthful.

Still weary of shopping on Amazon from the Philippines?

Check on the link on the top right of this video.

There are also links below the description as to where we purchased the gear you saw.

We hope you enjoyed our budget audio recording setup so much

that it's making you itch to go smash that like button.

But if you didn't,

well hey! Go hit that dislike button

so we can see how much more room we have to improve.

But we'd prefer that you don't

because we'd wanna get you to subscribe,

click on the notification settings,

write a comment below too

and tell us what was the best feature of the mic or of the audio interface.

Until then,

this is Barry your not so anonymous but ever so awesome host

and George signing off for Think Tank TV PH

where we enjoy taking Tech from all over the world

and fitting it in a Pinoy Budget Meal.

If you think it,

we'll make it!

Panel – Innovation City - Duration: 8:21.

[MARK KINGWELL] The city, in a way, is the most important machine that humans have ever created.

And I like to think of it, and forgive me because this is a philosophical kind of reflection on the city,

but just like the human, the city has both material and non-material life or substance. So, we have the

built environment, we have the streets, the sewers, the buildings, the subways, the vehicles that are

moving through it. And then we have something which is non-material. We have the spirit of the city,

the nature of the city. And you can't have one without the other; you know, you can neutron bomb a

city and all the material structures are still there but the life has been taken, just like you can end the

life of a human being and still have the material substance before you in the form of the body.

So that's, it seems to me, the key to why every city is unique and this attempt to reverse-engineer one

kind of success in one place and replicate it in another place just gets the uniqueness of cities wrong,

right, cities are as unique individual humans. And for the same r easons. So we can think about the city

in all kind of ways. We can ask, you know, do we want a more innovative city, what would that

mean? But maybe we should be asking other questions as well, like do we want a more just city? Do

we want a city that is more tolerant, that is more dedicated to the long-term life goals of its inhabitants

both living and to come. And this, I think, starts to get us into what I think is the interesting material

underneath all of the talk of innovation: what we are up to? What are we innovating for? And for

whom? You know, there's a long-standing series of arguments in justice theory about our obligation

to future generations. What do we owe to the people who are not yet among us? We have a deep,

profound human obligation to those who are to come after. We also have an obligation by the way to

those who came before us. So, when I, you know you think about the built environment, here we are

in Old Montreal among all of these, many heritage buildings, and we have an obligation not to just

disrupt those for the sake of some perhaps, you know, allegedly innovative purpose. We have an

obligation to keep what's good, as well as to improve what to come.

[ALBERTO GALASSO] It's a big question like what makes an environment more innovative and I've done, you know, quite a

bit of work, especially with one of my colleagues at the University of Toronto, Ajay Agarwal, to try to

understand what makes a city of a region more innovative than others. Like for example, you know,

you try to ask the question, can we replicate the Silicon Valley model in Toronto and the key finding

in all that literature is what we are going to say is you need an ecosystem. So it's not just one thing or

two things or multiple, complimentary things that have to happen at the same time. And, you know,

just to give you an example of what I did, the most important one. First of all, you need the right type

of people. Typically people make sure you need a lot of scientists, a lot of engineers in your city. But

that's not enough, okay? You need also, for example, companies that are able and have the experience

to take something new, something different from the latest version of the product, something

completely different and be able to kind of scale it and make sure that goes from two, three crazy

users, the ones who tried for the first time, to a mass diffusion of all the new technology. You need the

right type of consumers, too. You need those that are willing to try new things and also we noticed

that there is in some environments the huge interaction between consumers and companies in term of

providing feedback and even in term of providing input in the innovation process itself.

The key example is you usually give in business school is medical instruments. Something like 20

percent of the patents in medical instruments have a practicing physician listed as inventor and the

reason is there is a lot of back and forth going on between those that will use the technology and the

company that already developed the new technology. You need good universities. You need, you

know, the right set of policies. A lot of people say that, you know, San Francisco — the success of

San Francisco — is all driven by the fact there is very little enforcement or no compete agreements in

California, but these type of policies may kind of help a lot. You also need the right type of managers,

the right type of firms. I heard before, you know, thinking about small firms, scientists at the small

firms, scientists thrive in small firms. What we find in the data is it's not really environments where

you have only small firms that thrive. Not either those that have a lot of large firms that thrive, but are

those are that have some kind of asymmetrical distribution as you can be sure you have a lot of start-

ups but also a lot of big, large company that tend to kind of interact often with the start-up, that tend to

have a 30 percent premium in patenting and patenting per inventor. Okay so we look for example at

the chemical industry in the '90s compared to places like Atlanta and Portland and you see that the

number of scientists and engineers working the two cities roughly are the same, but because you are

organized differently and in Atlanta, you also this large, large small start-up configuration, you see the

premium. So there are all these sorts of things. Like a large airport, for example, looks like you makes

the differences in term of like accessing to knowledge and going to conferences. So, it's very hard to

give a recipe of what makes a region or city more innovative or what I say from the research that I've

seen is that you really need a lot of complimentary things happening at the same time.

[JAMES EVANS] You know, having spent some substantial time at Stanford and their efforts to create every Silicon

Valley and glen around the world with the check list, you know, of institutions and it's just ridiculous.

I think that's, you know, the answer, is these things are grown. Humans are bad at thinking of high

combinatorial problems in the first place and so the idea of kind of inventing one from the ground up,

you know, like what is it about Singapore? Was it, like, the separation from Malaysia? Was it, you

know, its relative isolation and, you know, it's like the answers are like all these things and more. So, I

think designing huge innovation systems from the ground up is very fraught with — well again, it's

innovative, you know, but this is an enormous kind of accountably infinite space of possible

combinations and a very few of them will be successful.

[ALBERTO GALASSO] We noticed in a business school, for example, talking with people that live in cities like Toronto,

Montreal and go to San Francisco. You are asking like why is it you are relocating your start up there?

And one of the thing that comes out is really there is something about the culture there. If my business

doesn't go well here, I am kind of stamped for life instead there is considered, you know, you can

retry and do it again, do it better, that's considered a plus. This view of kind of failure may also kind

of be different across cities, across regions, across states, and that may also have a profound impact in

overall innovation activity and in an environment.

Wayne Dyer - Focusing On What You Want - Duration: 11:40.

WAYNE DYER☯ just the right way at the perfect time previously I talked a great deal about

trust and about this knowing and about shifting your perceptions out of this

idea that somehow you are separate from the divine intelligence that is

universal the obvious thing to remember about a universal intelligence is that

if it's universal it is in all places therefore it is in all that you want and

all that you are and so manifesting is the ability to realign your intention

with that divine intelligence and know that it will show up but one of the

things that we have a tendency to do as individuals is to become impatient our

ego says to us I want what I want and I want it now

and we have a tendency to try to tell the universal intelligence or to tell

God or the metaphor that I used earlier as God is like the ocean and we are like

a glass and so we are really a glass of God if you will we are at peace of God

but when you separate yourself one little drop of water separated from the

ocean alone literally can't make anything happen it's very weak and so on

and it is only when you unite yourself with that ocean when that drop of water

becomes united with the ocean it can do anything it is part of the universal

when you unite yourself with this divine intelligence instead of separating

yourself from it then you know that this ocean will provide it will provide for

you in precisely the right way that it is supposed to and in exactly the right

time there's a wonderful poet that I have quoted in this program several

times and I want to quote him again his name is roomie

well Rumi wrote back in the early part of the 13th century

his poetry is still quoted today and it's something that I would recommend

you look at yellow luden Rumi and he had a poem that is called the servant who

loved his prayers and I'd like to share that with you as I talked about this

idea of detaching from the outcome and letting go of your need to make

something happen as you demand it to happen it's called the servant who loved

his prayers at dawn a certain rich man wanted to go to the steam bath

he woke his servants in quar Oh get moving get the basin and the towels and

the clay for washing and let's go to the bath SimCorp immediately collected what

was needed and they set out side by side along the road as they passed the mosque

the call to prayer sounded some choir loved his five times prayer please

master rest on this bench for a while that I may recite surah 98 which begins

you who treated your slave with kindness the master sat on the bench outside

while soon choir went in when prayers were over in the priest and all the

worshippers had left still some croire maned inside the master waited and

waited finally he yelled into the mosque soon

choir why don't you come out I can't this clever one won't let me out have a

little more patience I hear you out there seven times the

master waited and then shouted soon quas reply was always the same not yet he

won't let me come out yet but there's no one in there but you everyone else is

left who makes you sit still so long the one who keeps me in here is the one who

keeps you out there the same who will not let you in will not let me out the

ocean will not allow its fish out of itself

nor does it let land animals in with a subtle and delicate fish move the land

creatures lumber along on the ground no cleverness can change this there's

only one opener for the lock of these matters forget your figuring forget

yourself listen to your friend when you become totally obedient to that one

you'll be free roomie and this idea of knowing that that

divine intelligence will work in exactly the order and the preference and the

time that it is supposed to in the course of miracles there's this often

quoted passage that says infinite patience produces immediate results and

it sounds like it's a contradiction doesn't it it sounds like a paradox if

I'm patient infinitely patient then I will have to wait a very long time you

know I talked earlier about these tomato seeds that we used to plant and how the

essence of tomato nests was in every aspect of that tomato and yet that very

essence was something that isn't in the physical world at all the cause of

tomato as we discover and we look at those seeds and we look at the dust

that's in the seeds and then we try to find out what's in the dust and

ultimately we find out that there's just an energy in there it's just a wave

there's something that's invisible to the naked eye there's something that

doesn't even exist in a physical world there are no particles at all see when

when you're a child you think like a child as it says in Corinthians 13 and I

can remember as a child when those tomato shoots surfaced above the ground

sometimes in June back there in Mount Clemens and they would come up about

four or five inches above the ground I remember one time getting down there

and looking at those tomato suits and trying to hurry them along and I got

down on my knees and I started tugging it as a little boy maybe three or four

years old and remember mr. Scarface no no no you can't do that and I was like

trying to hurry it along and this idea of attempting to hurry along the divine

intelligence it's something that we do with our egos all the time obviously

creation reveals its secrets by and by by and by as it is supposed to as it is

ordained and when you get down there and start tugging at those shoots in sight

and I remember pulling that one and up I pulled one just a little bit too hard

because they're still not firmly in French they don't have very long roots

tomato plants you can pull them out with hardly any effort at all and I pulled

one right on into my hand and I was the end of that tomato there

was no possibility because I was attempting to do something that

interferes this principle of detaching ourselves from outcome along with having

infinite patience is really essential to your manifestation process it is

inconsistent with what we have a tendency to think is the way things

should be working because if I do everything that I'm supposed to if I

follow all of these principles and I set down all the rules and I get it all

organized then I expect that I'll have results that's the time in our lives

that I referred to earlier in the very first principle of being the warrior

going from the athlete to the warrior that's the time in our lives when we set

our goals and there's nothing wrong with setting goals I've written about it and

talked about it on many programs right here at night and elkanah

and in many of my books but the idea of thinking that

goals and then just going about and having them show up is still the

thinking that keeps us sort of stuck back at the warrior phase of our

development it inhibits us from moving to higher places higher places where and

we can we can begin to manage the coincidences of our lives which sounds

like a contradiction doesn't it if it's a coincidence you can't manage it if

you're managing it then it's not a coincidence but when you begin to

transcend some of these paradoxes when you reach a higher level so setting

goals is one thing and it's something that we do at the in the earlier stages

of our spiritual development and we continue to do it and these stages that

I talked about earlier are not things that we go into and then never go back

to we go back we come out of it we go back we're always moving in and out of

these stages the question is what is my primary emphasis is my primary emphasis

not only on setting goals but in falling in love with those goals and then

insisting that those goals show up when I want them to show up that is

inconsistent with manifestation and with spirituality and higher consciousness

what you have to do is have your goals which is what a tomato seed is it's

really a goal for tomatoes but you have to then relax and turn your thoughts and

your ideas and your consciousness and your awareness to your own purpose and

know in your heart that it will manifest you see the key to relaxing about what

it is that you would like to see manifested is the certainty of the

outcome if you have a certainty as it says in the Course in Miracles if you

have a certainty of the outcome patience is easy if you are uncertain of the

outcome if you're not sure how it's going to work out or if things are going

to fall into place the way you would like them to

if you have that uncertainty then you will not be able to be patient so

patience infinite patience is really like a trusting in God and when you

trust in God you're trusting in the wisdom that created you and when you

trust in the wisdom that created you you're trusting in yourself as well

because you can never be separate from that wisdom so patience and trust and

awareness and higher consciousness are absolutely essential
