License vs Non-License Career Options The Early Childhood Education major leads

to a Baccalaureate of Science in Education degree. With this degree a graduate can pursue

graduate school or coursework in a variety of fields such as education, social work,

human ecology related fields, therapeutic fields, and others social science focused

areas of study. A graduate with the ECE B. S. in Education degree can also pursue employment

in early care and education where teaching certifications are not required. Such positions

may include Early Care and Education Center - teacher,

administrator, curriculum specialist, owner

In-home Early Care and Education

Head Start – teacher, administrator, family outreach worker

Early Head Start – family advocate, classroom education and care professional

Human services and family support agencies – advocate for families, home visiting program

specialist

Child care resource and referral agencies - adult trainer and support specialist

In addition to the B. S. in Education degree, the ECE major prepares future early childhood

educators and special educators for two Wisconsin teaching licenses. A candidate who successfully

completes all ECE teaching licensure requirements will be endorsed for two licenses including

(1) early childhood regular education (DPI code 1777) and (2) early childhood special

education (DPI code 1809). With the ECE B.S. in Education degree and teaching licenses,

a graduate can pursue employment in positions such as

Birth to Three Early Intervention (in WI County-based programs)

Public schools – early childhood special education including 3 and 4 year olds, K – 3rd

grade Special Educator

Public schools - 4K – 3rd grade classroom teacher (including K4 and K3 classrooms in

child care settings as part of district partnership program)

Human services and family support agencies - Family Resource Centers

Charter schools through third grade
