Japanese ambassador due in S. Korea after nearly three-month absence - Duration: 0:40.

Japan's ambassador to South Korea will be returning to Seoul after a near three-month

absence.

He was recalled to Tokyo to protest the installation of a new statue dedicated to wartime sex slavery

victims... outside the Japanese consulate in Busan.

The country's foreign minister Fumio Kishida said Ambassador Yasumasa Nagamine and consul

general Yasuhiro Morimoto will be heading to Seoul Tuesday afternoon.

Kishida explained Japan needs to get ready for the launch of a new Korean administration

next month... and facilitate information-sharing on a higher level to counter North Korea's

growing threats.

An official from Seoul's foreign ministry expressed hopes of more active coommunication

between the two governments.

Japan's ambassador to South Korea is returning to Seoul after nearly three months out of

the country.

He was recalled to Tokyo in January to protest the installation of a statue dedicated to

wartime sex slavery victims... outside the Japanese consulate in Busan.

Japan's foreign minister Fumio Kishida said the ambassador and consul general to Busan

will arrive back in South Korea on Tuesday afternoon.

South Korea's defense minister met with America's top naval officer in Asia for talks.

South Korean Defense Minister Han Min-koo met with U.S. Pacific Fleet Commander Scott

Swift at the defense ministry in Seoul on Monday afternoon.

The meeting takes place amid growing speculation that the regime is preparing for its sixth

nuclear test... as well as growing concerns that North Korea could conduct multiple missile

provocations throughout the month of April for celebratory or strategic purposes.

The North is slated to convene its rubber-stamp legislature,... the Supreme People's Assembly,...

on April 12th.

Three days later it will celebrate the 105th anniversary of the birthday of regime founder

Kim Il-sung on the 15th.

During a visit last year, Swift had told Korean reporters that he believed North Korea has

the desire and "theoretical capacity" to strike the U.S. mainland.

This time around, Swift said he is willing to discuss additional ways in which the South

Korea-U.S. alliance could respond to situations that emerge on the Korean peninsula.

Meanwhile, Seoul's defense ministry also said on Monday that South Korea, the U.S. and Japan

have begun conducting an anti-submarine drill in waters south of Jeju island.

South Korea has dispatched its 45-hundred-ton Kang Gam Chan destroyer, while the U.S. deployed

the USS McCampbell, armed with the Aegis ballistic missile defense system.

Japan has sent its Sawajiri destroyer, which is equipped with helicopters.

A ministry spokesperson said the drills had been proposed at trilateral defense talks

in December... and are aimed at countering possible ballistic missile launches from North

Korean submarines.

South Korea and the United States have agreed to strengthen their military alliance in light

of the escalating threats posed by North Korea.

The commitment came during talks on Monday between Seoul's defense minister and Washington's

top naval officer in Asia.
