Youtube daily report Jun 16 2017

good morning Gornick morning today I'm going working in 24 hours oh that makes

no sense I'm going to work a 24-hour shift today so today's video can't

really be a vlog related one so I thought it would go into the garden here

and talk to you guys I think this is the best place I'm sorry if I squint a

little bit but I'm looking into like really bright stuff I thought we would

talk about the future up apps again today because I made a video about this

maybe half a year ago and it has changed a little bit this is not as general and

I'm going to try not to keep it as technical I realize that the last time

and most of my vlogs really are really technical see I really liked yesterday's

video and I'm gonna make more of those but I'm sorry if they are too technical

for something actually I don't think so I think most people are going to

understand everything that I've talked about and hopefully I'm going to try and

keep it that way all of the technical terms honestly if I don't explain it

it's not super important but see I started thinking about this when I was

in London actually I arrived to the airport about 19 hours early or

something like very early and it was ridiculous because I arrived so early

that I couldn't I couldn't check-in I couldn't go into the airport if like

through security so I ended up having to sit in the lobby and just sort of yeah

figure out my own stuff to do and so I started developing this app and image

recognition apps and right after I started oh I'm really sorry if it's

really windy I'm very sorry I'll try and cover up I can't really sit inside the

house so this is this will have to do and I started developing this image

recognition app and I really thought about it a lot

and this is like the new trend because there's come out some really new

software it's been out for a couple of years now but it's really started to get

really good now you can start learning the software and the images by itself

which is insane so now you can have your users help

develop a good app that can recognize different types of imagery and like

we've seen it from like Vivino and apps like those and that's definitely gonna

be the new thing it's gonna be image recognition app in general

so I started looking into that and I wanted to do one that made to like help

people pick out their shoes or their hats so there's something like that and

and a lot of works goes into it and it would be amazing to make it I'm

definitely not giving up on it but it has to be very specific and I've seen I

have a friend actually who's making one and of course I'm not

gonna like steal his idea I would never do that but the problem with all of

these apps are that they're very similar so as soon as you don't have a very

specific goal like for instance Vivino which is an app to recognize wine

bottles that's really all it does and that's a very specific thing but that's

also like now they have the database and you can't really compete with the

database they have so they definitely have the best blind recognition app so

you need to find a topic like that and we're gonna see a lot of them come out

who uses barcodes and that's the like there's no multiple angles so as long as

you have a couple pictures of a barcode you kind of have enough to be consistent

in your recognition so I can definitely see that being like sort of the start of

it but I really can't wait to see the entire wave of like image recognition

like there's gonna be apps where you can just sit watching the TV for instance

and then pause it and take a picture of someone's hat and then buy it straight

from your iPhone like that's gonna come out in a few years and I think it's a

really brilliant idea but it's just building up the database to be able to

do that with every single product out there it's just not possible right now

so it's very interesting to see when that will be possible and I thought it

would be pretty interesting to mention especially because my my blog is very

app my minded lately and I love that I really love apps and that's probably

gonna be what I'm gonna be working on the rest of my life so I'm not gonna

turn that down but I'm not trying not to make it as technical so even for all the

people out there who doesn't care about apps like I still think this is a very

interesting thing like being to be able to just snap a picture of someone's

shoes and then buy them straight from the same app is amazing to me and I

really hope that's gonna come out soon the technology is there now at least we

just need the databases so that like the databases basically needs to have about

50 pictures of every type of shoe so that's what I mean when I say user

driven and databases because then whenever a person takes a picture of a

shoe you have a picture of that shoe in your database

and you need well you need more than 50 pictures of each shoe but if you have

about 50 pictures of each shoe you can have a a decent success rate with the

the recognition software as it is right now if I really think that's very doable

50 pictures is a lot but let's say you have all the wine bottles in the world

like getting 50 50 pictures of those is not impossible like not at all

impossible so yeah it's a it's very interesting and I really hope that

that's gonna be coming out soon and I'm really sure that today's video is not

gonna be any longer but I need to go to work and I need to leave here in a very

short amount of time I think I have like half an hour to edit this and upload it

before I have to drive all the way to 2e Cass where I work but before I sign out

like a big quick update in regards to the university stuff they called me

yesterday and I missed the call because I was outside for like 10 minutes and

then I came in they the head cold which of course is unlucky but hopefully

they're gonna call again today like we are a lot fingers crossed Vidya it catch

me on instagram at Jonas is live and if you have anything like you'd like to

discuss link a lot of people do just let me know in the comments down below or PM

me and I really do get back to every single one my channel is still very

small so I have enough time to reply to every single one of you yeah that's

gonna be it for this video guys thank you so very much for watching and let me

know what you guys think like is image recognition going to be the next big app

thing or is it not it's a new way of gonna come in and sweep it like we saw

with the the VR headsets for instance yeah enough about that and I'll see you

guys tomorrow take care

I got a condo in the head baby go watch you and your lesson buddy

How to Create a Website Layout with Photoshop CC from Wireframe - Duration: 15:18.

Hi everyone!

Today we're making a website layout design in Adobe Photoshop.

If you don't have Photoshop, you can either start a free trial or buy it, I'll put the

links below.

In a previous video we made a wireframe model for a website in Balsamiq Mockups and now

we're adding the visuals on top of that same wireframe.

Let's open the wireframe image.

Go to file - open and find the wireframe PNG file.

You can make it bigger by choosing the magnifying tool.

Then go to Layer - New - Layer.

You can name it background.

Choose the Paint Bucket Tool and the color white.

Make sure the background layer is selected and paint it white.

The wireframe picture we're using as a guide is under the background layer and we can see

it by setting the background layer invisible in the Layers tab from the icon that looks

like an eye.

To help you place the elements, use rulers.

Set them visible by clicking View -> Rulers.

Drag rulers onto the image to create a grid for the banner, menu, content areas, some

elements like images and footer of the page.

Remember to save the project.

Go to file - save as and save it as a Photoshop file.

Add a new layer by duplicating the background layer and name it background color.

Make this layer smaller than the background by going to edit - transform - scale so you

can drag the layer smaller and a bit of the white background will show in the edges after

we color this layer.

Press enter to stop transforming the background.

Give the background a gradient color by choosing the background color layer and choosing the

Gradient tool from the left menu.

You can choose the type of the gradient and the colors.

Apply the gradient by right-clicking, moving the mouse and clicking again over the background

layer.

The colors I chose don't really fit the images I'll add, but they can be changed later on.

If the white background doesn't show in the edges, scale the background color layer again.

Add the banner background with the rectangle tool using the rulers as a guide for the size

and placement.

You can change the color from the properties and give the layer a name in the layers tab

so you'll find it more easily.

Add a banner image.

Click File -> Place embedded, choose the image and click Place.

You can change the size of the image by holding down shift and dragging one of the corners

of the image.

The scale will stay the same.

Press enter.

Add the title by clicking the T icon in the menu on the left and drag the text area onto

the banner.

Write the title and change the font, size, alignment and style in the text menu above.

Use the Move tool to change the placement of the title.

Add a background for the navigation with the Rectangle tool.

Add the navigation links with the text tool.

You can also underline one of the links to make it seem like it's selected.

Add a new rectangle below the navigation as a background for the first content section.

Select the banner title from the layers tab, right-click it and click Duplicate Layer...

You can change the name.

This will be the title for the new section.

Move it higher in the layers tab so it becomes visible.

Move the title to the right place and change the text.

If you need to select an element, you can press down ctrl and click on the element and

it becomes selected.

Add another text box for the see more or continue reading link.

You can make text look like a link by changing the color and underlining it in the Character tab.

In my website layout this is a gallery section so I'll add some images.

Click File -> Place embedded (or place linked), choose the image and click Place.

Hold down shift when you change the size of the image to keep the proportions.

Press enter, when you're done.

You can set the background layers invisible, if you need to see the wireframe underneath.

I changed the

gradient of the background and underlined the first navigation link.

You can duplicate the last section's background for the next section.

Move it in place and go to edit - transform to be able to change the height.

Do the same for the title and change the text.

I'm making an about section, where I'll add an image and some text.

Add a text box and go to type - paste lorem ipsum in the menu above to add placeholder

text.

I'll also add a see more or learn more link at the end of this section.

The link would lead to another page with more information.

There's one more section like this in my layout design.

I'll repeat mostly the same steps as before: duplicating the rectangle and title and adding

an image.

This time the image is a print screen picture of a YouTube video thumbnail.

In the actual website, this would be an embedded video.

I duplicated the placeholder text and changed the size of the text box.

Next, there'll be two sections beside each other.

I'm duplicating the last title and moving it higher in the layers.

The last two content sections are Contact and Subscribe.

I'm aligning the titles and adding a picture of my email list opt in freebie.

Let's make an input box for an email address.

Take the rectangle tool, choose fill color as white and add a 1 px wide stroke.

Let's make a subscribe button too with the rectangle tool.

Change the color by choosing Color overlay from the fx drop down menu.

Choose the color you want.

You can also add inner glow and a drop shadow.

You can try different settings and see the difference in the little preview.

I tried the inner glow, but didn't like it so I set it invisible in the layers tab.

I added a text box inside the button and some free social media icons in the contact section.

And an email address and the social media account links beside the icons.

Again, you can underline the texts to make them look like links.

Finally, add a smaller rectangle for the footer area.

And you can add copyright information, for example.

You can hide the rulers by pressing Ctrl H.

Save the website layout as an image by going to the File menu and choosing Export -> Save

for web -> PNG-8 and click save.

Here's the finished visual design for the website layout.

This video was a part two for the wireframe video.

I'll also make a brochure design video using InDesign with this same theme, it will be

a brochure for an art exhibition.

Thanks for watching!

Socially Responsible Ways to Dispose of Electronics – Electronic Recycling Tips – DIY in 5 Ep 56 - Duration: 3:34.

Ooohhhh yeah!!

We've had a good run old chap…

Hey everyone and welcome to DIYin5.

I'm Trisha Hershberger and in this episode we will tell you how to recycle

or donate those old electronics that have been collecting dust in the closet.

If you want tips to breath new life into said gadgets, then don't forget to subscribe

so you won't miss any of our upcoming episodes.

Let's be real... we all get excited when we get the latest & greatest gadget but as

time moves on these new toys become old and slow... and suddenly you want something new again!

Do you find yourself thinking "now what do I do with this"?

Electronics aren't made to last forever and all tech companies don't mind if you

upgrade every year or two. Wink wink, nudge nudge...

Because of this, all these old gadgets usually end up in your closet or your garage for years!

It's like an old friend that you just can't bear to get rid of so you just keep it!

But, my friends, it's time to let go.

So what's the best thing to do you ask?

Donate or recycle!

Donate your old PCs and phones to groups that will fix and clean them and put them back into use.

Even that old Windows XP system can probably be used by someone else.

But... there are electronics that even charities won't accept.

That's when you know it's really bad

and you might need to check yourself into gadget hoarding rehab.

But did you know that old electronics or "e-waste" are potentially dangerous?

They can be filled with toxic metals and chemicals that are fine when being used but hazardous

when sitting in a landfill.

So where do you go?

♫ ♬ Captain Planet, he's our hero! Gonna take pollution down to zero! ♫ ♬

If Captain Planet was your personal hero as a kid and you're into non-profits,

then e-Stewards might be right for you.

They have a mission to create a toxic-free future and are campaigning for everyone's

right to a clean environment.

You can check out a list of e-Stewards recyclers here.

By taking it to any of these sites you are guaranteed that your old stuff is recycled safely.

If big box stores are more your jam,

then Best Buy probably has the best retail recycling program out there.

If you go on their website, it lists out what the store will and won't accept.

Just be aware there are some items listed, like TVs, which cost $25 to take.

As a bonus Best Buy also has a Trade-in program where you can trade in some items for a gift

card which you can put toward a shiny new device.

Now if you're a Tetris master or have pro packing skills then Office Depot has a Tech

Recycling Service where you buy a recycling box and put as many devices in there for a

flat rate of $5 to $15, as long as it closes of course.

OK, competition time!

What's the oldest tech you still have laying around in your closet or garage?

Let us know in the comments below.

I think I still have an HTC Tilt laying in a drawer somewhere…

Those things were really cool back in the day, I swear!

Now if you just can't part with your gadgets we've got other videos for you.

If you have an old Android tablet you want to turn into something productive,

check out this video here.

Thanks so much for watching and I'll see you next time with more DIY in 5!
