LASIK Surgery
It is the morning of my LASIK surgery.
What I did before today... scheduled my free consultation. It took about 90 minutes.
They gave me some liquid tears. It's not just saline, there's a little more in it.
It's just a simple eye drop to help keep your eyes moisturized.
They told me to use them a few days, multiple times a day, before the surgery.
I went out and got some polarized Ray Bans (sunglasses).
Then I also went to Home Depot (hardware store) and picked up some safety glasses
because they're cheap and I thought I should just wear them. (I wore them in the shower for the first few days)
They are slightly yellow tinted with camo edges.
I figured if I have these I can use them for chopping wood or whatever.
For one week, they're going to give you these little plastic cups to go over your eyes.
And you're going to tape them on. So I picked up some clear tape.
And if I don't use it, it will go in a first aid kit.
I got some more of those liquid tears.
For the fist day and then the first week, I don't know how washing my face is going to work. (You aren't supposed to splash water on your face)
I was a little concerned, so I went out and got some face wipes. This is something I never really use because I feel like it's wasteful.
I really like the Honest Company and like having these baby wipes.
I would have used these if I didn't find something in the beauty section I liked.
The only other thing I am going to take with me is my hat. Just to help block the sun with the visor.
I will probably be wearing for a few days when I take the dogs out.
As far as any other prep... I obviously just showered.
Did the dishes, I'm doing laundry right now,
Any groceries and food prep to help Josh out because he is working.
And I gave the dogs baths.
I like being stinky...
And I'm going to clean. Just like sweep up, clean the bathroom and all that.
So that way it's all good and I won't have to do anything for the first few days after my surgery.
One of the main things when I was looking for surgery was I just wanted to see a price.
Everyone just wants to know how much it costs.
The standard price, at this location, is $2,199 per eye.
Because Josh is an Army Veteran, they let me get a 20% off discount. So that is awesome.
The grand total for me, with the discount and everything, is going to be $3,518.40.
24 hours after LASIK Surgery. It has been 24 hours since my surgery and I feel great.
I went for my follow up, they checked my vision and everything looks good. So I'm very happy.
My vision is 20/15 which is slightly better than 20/20. And they said that is just the first day and it could be better than that.
A few things that have changed... one thing was the eye drops.
These are are the artificial tears. These are preservative free.
They come in little individual use vials.
I only have to use these for the first week when I'm using the medication and then just finish them up. Then I can use the bottles I previously showed.
Another thing that I had to buy was two different prescription eyedrops.
I ended up buying some Walgreens brand Tylenol PM because I was afraid I wasn't going to be able to sleep for very long after my surgery.
They recommend you go home and sleep for 2-6 hours.
So I got in, they did the laser to cut the flap, and that took about 30 seconds per eye.
And then I got up, walked to a different laser and then it was 16 seconds for one eye and 14 seconds for the other.
So it's a super quick procedure. Your eyes are totally numb and you can't feel a thing.
My eye doctor was so informative on every little step and what was happening.
So I knew exactly what he was doing, what was going on, where I should be looking... all that. So that made me feel really good.
After my procedure was done, the Optometrist looked at my eyes just to make sure everything looked good.
Then they gave me some sunglasses and told me to go home and go to sleep.
I probably went to bed at 6 o'clock and woke up at 9 and I felt fine.
My eyes didn't burn at all or hurt or ache.
I drove myself to my follow up appointment. I am clear to drive and do anything I want except swim and those few things for the fist week/month.
They whole procedure was really, really quick. It took like 15 once I was in there.
And now I can see!
So yeah, it's pretty awesome to not have to wear anything and I get to wear sunglasses.
Right after, in the car, was the only time I felt any pain... when the numbing was wearing off and before I could get home to got to sleep.
My eyes were just tearing up, just streaming, like it was just pouring out. And they were starting to get that sand in your eyes feeling.
It didn't last too long and when I woke up from my nap, I didn't have that feeling at all so I was really happy.
There is one thing, when they put the flap back and smooth it out, they use this circle thing
and push... they put it over it and really press on it to ensure there are no wrinkles or bubbles.
And I think that caused a little bruising to my eyes.
It's probably kind of gross.
So you can kind of see the red arches on the top. That's the only thing we could think of that would cause that.
So if you're thinking about doing it, it's not as bad as it seems.
It's a little expensive but a lifetime of glasses, contacts and going to eye doctors and all that... it's a good trade off if you don't want to do that.
I would recommend it to anyone.
I am really happy with the doctor and the location that I went with which is LASIK Plus in St. Louis, MO.
1 week after LASIK.
Yes, our hotel room is a disaster. We are leaving, hopefully, tomorrow. We are headed to go camping.
Just went for my LASIK... it's been 1 week exactly. I went for my follow up.
Both of my eyes, together and on their own, are 20/15. And I am don't with my medication and taping my eyes up when I sleep and all that.
I actually washed my face, like splashing water, for the first time today... so that felt great.
So it's getting late. We need to pack up everything in this room, put it in the trailer, and then we're done.
Josh just left so the truck is not out there but that's our little trailer by the dumpster.
You guys ready to go to Colorado. Hmmm? Ready to go to Colorado? [brown dog is making whimpering noises]
Shhh... Maynard, that's enough crying.
About 2 weeks after LASIK surgery.
Alright, it's Monday, August 1 so I have had my LASIK surgery for about 2 weeks now and everything is great.
I stopped the prescription eye drops after the first week and it's been fine.
I keep looking around because my dogs are with me and there are black bears in the area.
It was a little... it felt like I had been wearing contacts all day after I stopped because the steroid drops help with the pain or anything you're feeling.
I'm just using those regular Blink in the bottle. And that I will probably be using for quite a few months up to 6 months.
Just like... in the morning your eyes still feel a little dry. Not as bad as the first week and it gets better every day.
I just keep my eye drops right next to my bed so that way I can stay in bed with my eyes closed and put them in and go about my day and don't even think about it.
I still have that bruising above my eye. They said it could be 3 weeks until that's gone.
I have wanted this for so long. (I got glasses when I was 7 and contacts when I was 10)
My mom said that my cousin got his in the 90's. Ever since I first found out about it and he got it, I'm like, I need that!
I'm 100% happy.
The rest of the video is the actual surgery. (2x speed) After 1 month, I felt 100% back to normal.
Thanks for filming, Josh!
Taping the eyelashes back.
Inserting devise to hold the eyelids open.
Opening the flap that was cup earlier.
Calibrating to my eye and making correction with laser. (about 15 seconds)
Putting the flap back in place and smoothing it out.
Making sure it has adhered nicely without wrinkles or bubbles.
One eye done!
Same process for the other eye.
Thanks for watching. Music credits.
