Hey Youtube, thanks so much for stopping by :)
With the release of the Gladion Battle Theme, I'm going to be closing up the Pokemon Sun
and Moon Easy Collection.
It's been an amazing ride, really - first of all I guess I've gained 250 subs in the
last two months <3, and that's really really heartwarming...but what's more heartwarming
than that is the comments I've got: some people telling me that they really enjoyed this whole
new idea of making arrangements accessible to people.
That's the direction I will bring my channel in in the months ahead.
From now onwards, I'm going to focus entirely on playability, so that means that every single
release I make should feel good to play on the piano.
It won't be unnecessarily difficult, it won't be unnecessarily extravagant, it won't be
too intricate, and it should sound like the original while being as simple as possible.
I cannot gurantee you that every single sheet will be easy, but it will be as playable as
possible.
And if you really go and take the time to go master them, they should feel good to play
on the piano.
Every sheet I release should make you feel like a real performer.
The irony is that easy arrangements were a lot harder to pull off than hard arrangements.
And it's funny that I never thought it would be this fun to use so much theory to get my
arrangements right.
Because to get an easy arrangement right, I needed to have nothing but the fundamentally
elemental stuff.
So that's just the very basic rhythms of the track - the very basic structural ideas, the
very basic harmonic ideas, and the melody.
Nothing else, otherwise it'd be too intricate - that's not what I was going for in this
project.
I had to get nothing but the bare essentials.
And it worked out!
:) I do a lot of analysis - for the Gladion I did at least four pages of it, incuding
one structural one.
And it was really fun, because I'm that kind of guy - I just love theory :p
It was fun and meaningful.
And that's the way I want to bring the channel forward.
I want to use theory and a bit of hard work to give you guys the best, most playable arrangements
you will ever get.
The goal of this channel once I started out was to try to get as many people to play the
sheets that they loved, from the games that they grew up with.
To get as many people to play those sheets as possible, so they could recreate the moments
that they really cherished.
That was the basic idea.
And I realised that, by making sheets that sounded good on playback but were really too
hard to execute properly...it just didn't work with the idea.
And so moving forward, playability is going to be my main focus.
Just a quick sneak peek at the weeks ahead - I've got something prepared, and it's called
"The Quiet Collection".
So yep, it's another collection of arrangements.
I think I'm aiming for five videos, and the first one is definitely going to be "Vector
to the Heavens" from Kingdom Hearts 358 / 2 Days.
If you haven't heard the track before, then...it's such a waste :p.
It's beautiful - it's really beautiful and...y'know, I really wish I could say more, but I promise
the video will show everything I need to say.
It's a pretty hard track.
It's got lots of layers, it's got lots of strings, and the piano part, if you try to
transcribe it, just doesn't really sound right.
Because there are so many layers that make this track really work.
Now, this is going to be the first challenge of playability I'm giving to myself.
And I hope you guys, y'know, enjoy the final product.
The idea is that, this is a hard track to arrange, but I'm going to make it as playable
as possible for you guys.
So that's just an idea of what's going to happen in the next few weeks: the most sensitive,
the most tear-wrenching tracks I've ever heard in my experience with playing video games.
And I think it's opportune to share with you guys why I only release one video a week.
So the fact is that I'm a Singaporean guy, and I currently have to serve my "obligation
to the nation".
It's what the call National Service.
Basically, it's two years of military service, and I'm about to finish it...in nine months.
Yeah, it's going to take some time.
Until this magical date right here when I'm finally relieved of my service, I can only
release one video a week.
Cuz the reality is that five days a week, I can't come home.
So that means that I won't have my audio gear for five days a week, and in the 48 hours
of weekends, I'll come up with one video.
But it has to cap at one video.
Some of you guys might be a bit surprised by this, because...I mean, it's kinda surprising
:p
But what I'd like to add on to that is that passion really carries.
When I first heard that I was going to be in a stay-in vocation, which means that you
have to be in a camp five days a week, I guess I was kinda sad, because I really wanted to
improve my musical skills, but at the same time I knew that if I couldn't touch the piano
five days a week, there was no way I could polish up my skills enough to, for example,
do an accompanist job in the weekend.
So that was really saddening.
And then I found myself writing music while in camp.
Route 216 was the first arrangement that I did, and it came out with nothing but the
OST on my phone and manuscript paper.
And then I realised I could arrange.
And so this thing happened and now I'm releasing one video a week.
So that's something for all you full-time workers or full-time students: don't give
up on your passion because of time problems, because your passion will carry you.
And music is a really nice passion to have, because it just relieves your stress and brings
you to another world.
Especially when it's VGM - the main feeling of VGM is nostalgia, and that's pretty beautiful.
And I hope that with playability being my focus in the future, you guys can really get
to try out the tracks that you love; you guys get to learn the tracks that you really want
to pull off, whether you want to show it off to your friends, or maybe you'd just want
to play it yourself.
But you guys get to play it.
And when you recreate those moments yourself, it's truly beautiful.
And that's a promise.
So until next time, take care, and much cheers :)
