Hello, This is Fryske Rider
with today: something special.
These little boxes
and this big one here, contain
Contain something very special, they contain a HID Xenon light.
A conversion kit from halogen to
a HID. I figured i'd record that
and show you
what's in the box and i'll take you outside afterwards.
To install the thing.
Eh. Right.
I've had a HID before.
I've had a conversion kit before, but it died.
I think this has something to do with that.
I don't know how well you can see it, but
This is open.
I think some moisture
got in there and that's what ultimately
killed it. Now of course i got a new-
I do need light, so I reinstalled
an original headlight. An original Halogen lamp
I mean. That's what i put in.
And thats made by
Osram. Its a nightbreaker, but.
Compared to Xenon
A Halogen lamp is as orange as...
Yes.
Name something. As orange as:
Exactly! I've got the evolution 2 system here.
Which is made by Hilox. The other kit
that's laying over there, that's the
Old evolution 1 system.
Whats in the Evolution 2 box then?
As you can see, nice box, nice logo.
This is what's inside. Three boxes
Containing:
A relay cable, I had already look at it and found it to be
inconvenient.
Because this is a cable where you have to
seperately
Get power from the battery.
Well I found it to be inconvenient because the old system didn't require that.
This has always worked well.
And why would you change that?
So I send a message to
Hilox, and they said: 'Well we also have this plug and play cable'
So I got that from them. This doesn't come in the box!
So that's something to remember. Okay! What else is in there?
The lamp of course!
Now, with the lamp its important
that you
do your best as not to touch the glass.
That because
the skin has naturally occuring
acids and such, and if you touch the lamp
and the lamp gets hot, and such a lamp gets hot.
then those acids will eat in on the
glass which will break down sooner. In other words
If you touch the glass, then
You will effectively shorten the lifespan of your lamp.
Alright. That was the lamp.
And the ballast is in here.
The ballast starts up your lamp.
It'll deliver a kick of around 25000 Volts.
So the lamp starts burning. The ballast has this
bracket which you can use
to mount the ballast to something.
The bracket has this adhesive tape, which we will use.
I'll just install it where i used to have my last kit as well.
Alright, that's what's
In the box.
I already have experience installing the kit, so it shouldn't take long.
I'll also show you the difference between my
"Orange" Halogen lamp
And the HID Xenon, and of course i'll show you
How to install the kit.
Right.
We're outside now. I haven't done anything yet.
I just want to show you how it looks like now.
As you can see, pretty yellow light. Standard Halogen color, I suppose.
Alright, then we'll start with the HID conversion.
In the case of my 1100
I specifically got a plug and play cable.
Because:
The other cable that comes in the package
requires a connection to the battery.
Which is a pain in the ass with this motorcycle, so I wanted
a plug and play cable instead.
First step:
Is removing
The headlamp. Its very simple. Just these three bolts.
I've replaced these with stainless steel bolts, because
I had lost a screw and I thought: Well
Then
I'll just replace all three of them.
There.
And then this one remains.
Two long bolts and one short if i'm not mistaken.
Now the unit will fall out.
And there's the whole thing.
Like I said: Luckily i've got a plug and play cable.
So the installation won't take long.
Pull off the plug.
Get rid of this grommet.
And then we arrive at the 'wonder of the GS'
This wonderous system.
Loosen the ring.
Which comes off easily.
Simply, press.
And off comes the lamp.
which gets replaced by this one. Its important with this lamp
Because its a H4 Bixenon lamp. Its important that you
know in what orientation to put the lamp.
Alright. Luckily I know this lamp comes apart.
So I don't expect any trouble.
So then you put this one back in the ring.
which I have to do
without the camera.
This is how the orientation should be.
So
When you put it in.
The metal cap should be straight.
I'm not entirely sure if this is correct, but we'll find out soon enough.
Er, Yes.
Back in like so.
Oops.
I'm sure this is correct.
Alright.
Next step: This is the old plug of the headlight.
Which we will put through the hole in the back.
I don't know how well you can see this, but put it through the hole in the back.
We don't need this one any more.
Lead the cables of the HID lamp through the hole as well.
Here through the back.
There.
Then the unit can be fastened already.
Now the lamp's in the unit.
And i'll take you to the other side.
What I said: three plugs.
One, Two and Three. Yeah seems about right.
right.
Now, these two plugs, these fit- All of these plugs
Only fit in one way. So you cannot do anything wrong.
There.
All fits only in one way.
The other.
I hope you can see something.
Click.
And then this one. This one controls
The motor in the lamp when you
switch to high beam.
And then there's this plug. This is the original
plug that would normally
sit on the halogen lamp.
So i'll put you back in the front.
And we'll put the bike on the ignition.
ooh
You see?
And that's all it takes to install a HID conversion kit.
Now comes finding a spot to mount all the boxes, that'll take the longest.
