How Social Media Killed Traditional News | Oliver Luckett - Duration: 6:05.

For all of the history up until this point, our communication structures have for the

most part, especially mass media systems, have been very top down and they've been controlled

by a few people that had distribution control.

If you look back the church was really the first broadcast network.

The church built out a very defined architecture of communication that was coming from a centralized

place where very few people could have the word of God come down to them and they had

the ability to transcribe – this was at a point when literacy was very rare and so

you had only a few people that were illiterate that could transcribe this holy word – and

then they would distribute it out to a local market where you had a big impressive building

that had lots of iconography and lots of beautiful images inside of it and the tallest building

usually in the town and they would ring with the steeple at 8:00 a.m. and we would all

congregate for mass and we would listen to one message from one incontrovertible truth,

from one source.

And that's not too dissimilar from television architecture.

You have a group of people in suits in New York or in Los Angeles and they're deciding

what's going to be on television and then they distribute it to those towers.

And at 7:00 p.m. prime time we aggregate around a television that's been brought into our

home and we watch this one incontrovertible truth and this signal from a top down approach.

And when the Internet started enabling people first with this underlying network architecture

of TCP/IP that allowed us to transcend time and distance, that allowed any node on the

network to contribute to the system, and then we started seeing things like video sharing

and a photo sharing that allowed us all to become publishers.

And then we had this kind of this layer of social that is redefining everything where

every single person is now a contributing node on the network, and every person that

is part of that uses emotions and memes and content to distributor things in a horizontal

fashion.

And so what that's doing is destroying the ability to discern what is authentic; what

is not, what's real; what's fake, what's commercial; what's non-commercial, what's sponsored; what's

non-sponsored, what's a good idea versus a bad idea.

And so when we exist in this freeform society where every node on the network can contribute

something to the network, and it has no checks and balances if you will, there is no top

down authority that's editing it or deciding what's real or not – then suddenly it becomes

every node on the network's responsibility.

We're all having to learn a pattern of behavior that we're all responsible for the propagation

of this content.

Because the one interesting rule is it's very difficult to make a mass media statement in

a cellular holonic structure nodal network because you have to get a bunch of people

to agree to share it and agreed to propagate it.

No big media company can buy their way into the system anymore.

But at the same time if everybody is on a balanced playing field then people that are

hackers or people that scam the system or people that kind of arbitrage the new ad features

that emerge or decided to take this path, have an advantage over some of the tried-and-true

institutions, you know, especially in things like the context of fake news that's been

happening a lot.

The idea that a bunch of Macedonian teenagers that are arbitraging ad dollars on Facebook's

system can put hundreds of stories into a network that people believe, these fake news

stories, when a New York Times or a Wall Street Journal refuses to pay for play in a system

like Facebook.

And so you have this great imbalance because we haven't learned yet how to - we haven't

taught ourselves yet how to discern what's real and what's fake and how to look at sources

and how to see them for what they are.

And that's also because of a lack of transparency.

We're living in these systems now that are controlling our ability to disseminate information

and we have no transparency whatsoever when it comes to algorithms.

Why this does content behaved this way, why one day when I post something to 500 people

does it reach and the next they only five people reaches?

And so until we have visibility into that system and into these algorithms we're going

to be at a bit of a loss and a bit of a grabbing in the dark trying to make sense of this new

communication architecture.

I quote Aldous Huxley, paraphrase him basically says: The only part of the universe you can

possibly control is yourself.

And now more than ever that kind of social responsibility is upon each one of us.

Because now we're in a holonic system, a cellular holonic system that we are all responsible

with the propagation of the right information, positive information, negative information,

fake information.

We're all responsible for it because we're all part of a metabolic factor inside of the

system.

The sharing of these memes is propelled by emotions.

So human emotions are the metabolism of this system.

And you can tap into human curiosity and the whole range of emotions from anger to laughter

to desire and so we're seeing that played out in real time right now.

Alberto Contador's Trek Speed Concept Time Trial Bike - Duration: 4:06.

- We are at one of the Trek–Segafredo team

very first get-togethers for the 2017 season.

This is the time trial bike that Alberto Contador

is currently riding as he experiments with his

position in his quest to get the perfect TT set-up.

(slow techno music)

There have been a couple of changes to the UCI's

rules regarding time trial bikes over the winter 2016

that mean that there are some slight differences

on Contador's time trial set-up and possibly most

riders time trial set-ups for the 2017 season.

So the UCI have abandoned their three to one ruling

regarding the frame and the fork.

Contador's Trek speed concept frame remains unchanged,

but Trek are now able to use their time trial fork,

which has wider fork blades and is the most

aerodynamic shape they can currently produce for forks.

So, in essence Contador's time trial bike has got

more aero just by a slight rule change.

Another thing that you'll notice about Contador's

bike is that the finish is very similar to the time trial

bikes that riders like Bauke Mollema and Ryder Hesjedal

raced last year.

And the finish is almost a lack of finish.

There is some paint there, but it weighs in

at under 20 grammes, so it very much looks like it's just

a raw carbon fibre finish with a couple of stickers,

which it isn't.

Like I said there is paint, but it's significantly

lighter than a full paint job on the time trial bikes

As time trial bikes with disc wheels different

shapes are often kind of heavier than road bikes,

anything you can do to get the bike towards the lower

UCI weight limit is seriously beneficial.

If we look at the build on Contador's bike,

like I said, it's very early in 2017,

so he's still experimenting and kind of working

towards the final set-up that he will use in the races,

but his saddle is a Bontrager Serano RXL,

moving forwards the handlebars are Bontrager Speed Concept,

so they're designed to fit perfectly with the Speed Concept

frame set, make that one unit and make it significantly

more aerodynamic.

Contador's arm rests are custom and on the extensions

he has Dura-Ace Di2 shifters.

As you might imagine, front mech and rear mech

are Dura-Ace Di2.

The chain set is Dura-Ace with a SRM power meter

and his cranks are 175 millimetres long.

The chain rings on his time trial bike are

46 inner and 54 outer.

The cassette, that's also Dura-Ace

and that's an 11 through to 28 on these wheels.

Pedals are a change for Contador for this season,

like the bike and they are Dura-Ace.

Like the bars, the brakes on the Trek Speed Concept

are also designed to fit perfectly with the frame set

so the bike is more aerodynamic and Contador

can go as fast as possible.

So these are Bontrager brakes for the Speed Concept frame.

So the wheels that Contador has on this bike today

is likely to be his standard time trial set-up.

At the rear he's got a Lightweight disc wheel.

At the front he's got the Bontrager Aeolus 7 wheel.

Unusually Contador actually has a particularly kind of

large range of wheel set and

wheel set depths at his disposal.

So he could also use the Aeolus 6,

which is 60 millimetres deep.

And the Aeolus 5, which is 50 millimetres deep.

The tyres that Contador is running right now are

Veloflex, so he's got a 25 millimetre up front

and a 23 millimetre in the rear.

But Trek–Segafredo actually have an open tyre choice,

so they're not tied to any tyre sponsor which

does allow you to change tyre brands, tyre treads,

tyre widths depending on the conditions and what

would suit them best.

Like I said at the start of the video,

Contador and the team are still working on his final set-up

on the bike, so things like position, final component

choice are not yet fixed, which means that the final

weight of the bike we probably don't know just yet.

Anyway, but the mechanics assured me that

the bike weighs in at around 7.8 kilos right now.

Which when you think about it, looking at previous TT

bikes is actually super light for a time trial bike.

Let us know what you think of Contador's brand new

Trek Speed Concept time trial bike for 2017

Hello, this is Chaeyeon.

Nice to meet you. This is Tzuyu.

We opened up the "2013 KBS Song Festival" by singing along to Cho Yong Pil's "Bounce".

Not only did Cho Yong Pil, our senior, take over the music scene this year,

but many rookie groups that appeared like comets...

We've gathered all the singers who received your love here!

We welcome everyone to this festival to celebrate!

There's also special collaborations between seniors and juniors,

as well as competitive team stages, so stick with us until the end!

Before we officially start the stages, we've prepared a video of music trends in Korea.

Let's take a look!

The reason why 2013 was full of great music was because of the competition between seniors and juniors.

That's why the competition is just as fierce in today's festival as well, right?

Yes, that's right.

We have a total of 20 teams here today at the "2013 KBS Song Festival".

These teams are artists who've promoted between November 19, 2012 and November 17, 2013.

They rank in the Top 20 with the highest scores regardingsong and albums sales, and broadcast promotions.

From these 20 teams, one team's song will be chosen as the Song of the Year, right?

That's right.

The pre-scores, and the SNS and text votes from our viewers will be tallied up.

The first 7 teams will be chosen in the first act,

and in the second act, the SNS and text voting will take place with those 7 teams.

And finally, the Song of the Year will be chosen for 2013!

The 2013 Song of the Year will be chosen in a fair method.

Chaeyoung will explain how you can participate in the voting.

I'll let you know.

It's very simple.

To pick the Song of the Year, text the name of your artist or their number to #8989.
