Although known to us in the West as Resident Evil.
The series official title in Japan is Biohazard.
The title of the seventh installment intentionally combined the Western and Japanese titles -- for
marketing reasons.

There have been some bizarre collector edition items over the years remember that Master
Chief helmet you thought was so cool when you were 14 and then immediately threw away
when you realized it was lady repellant?
Well, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard's collector's edition comes with a freaking house.
For 180 bucks, this can all be yours as well as a metal case, a VHS box and a bloody finger
USB stick that's actually pretty cool.
Reminds me of the Resident Evil 4 chainsaw controller.
Best thing about that was convincing other kids it was the only way to play Animal Crossings
*haha* I had a strange childhood.

Resident Evil: Biohazard will be the first main installment of the series to be completely
first person.
One of the game's producers stated in an interview that this was due to the developers goal to
bring the series back to its horror roots.
It was determined that first person was the best way to present horror to players, essentially
eliminating any barriers between them and the action on screen.
Hopefully Freddy Fazbear doesn't show up.

The game is set 4 years after the events of Resident Evil 6 -- in the fictional city of
Dulvey, Louisiana.
The protagonist's name is Ethan, who, unlike most of the series main characters is a civilian
that lacks proper combat skills.
It's been stated that although there are connections with previous entries of the series, Resident
Evil 7 will feature an entirely new cast of characters.

Following the game's announcement at E3 2016, it was revealed that the director would be
Koshi Nakanishi who previously directed Resident Evil: Revelations.
Nakanishi stated that, after playing all of the first-person horror games out there, such
as Outlast, they decided to contrast many of them by allowing players to fight back
with weapons.
Hopefully, we can still get a rocket launcher...
I mean, the game takes place in the Bible Belt, so I'm assuming you don't need a license
for one.

With the world of VR still in it's infancy, the news that Resident Evil 7 would be VR
compatible was exciting to many.
An ad posted on Reddit, revealed that the game will be exclusive to Sony's VR for 12
months suggesting that the game will eventually be supported on other platforms, like the
Oculus Rift, down the line.

Resident Evil 6 wasn't exactly what most fans of the series had hoped for.
Many have suggested it was the evolved, more action-based gunplay that came from Resident
Evil 4 and 5 that influenced the developers to push the game in a sloppy direction.
Regardless, Resident Evil 7's producer, Masachika (pronounced: Masa-cheeka) Kawata, has ensured
fans that their criticism was heard.
Saying that the game will return to its survival horror roots and leave the more gun-heavy,
action gameplay for a separate release.
It's good to know the devs are listening.
#3
The original 1996 Resident Evil was actually a huge influence on the latest installment.
Director Koushi Nakanishi was a huge fan and described it as a touchstone for him and his
creation of Resident Evil 7 -- as well as Revelations.

Based on the small, backwoods, southern town-vibe Resident Evil 7 has, it's not a surprise that
the game also has a lot of Western influence.
Nakanishi has stated that the atmosphere is very comparable to 1970's and 80's American
horror films.
A lonely house out in the fields or in the middle of nowhere in the countryside where
there's nobody to call for help.
He describes the Southern United States as being perfect because of how isolated and
helpless characters can be.
And finally: #1
VR will apparently bring a lot to Resident Evil 7.
Nakanishi describes first person as much more panic-inducing.
He says that he loves the feeling of claustrophobia you get in a first-person perspective.
And that losing the gap between the player and the character is one of the great things
about first person horror.
We'll also finally get to open those classic resident evil doors in actual, playable first
person.
It only took 20 years!
And there you have it.
