The problem with the "english" nosebands
Hey guys!
Welcome to this new video that I've planned to make since a long time and that means a lot to me!
Today I want to tell you something that hardly anything is written abot yet
but that is so logical that it should really be common knowledge.
What I'm talking about is the very common "english" noseband, not even the flash strap,
and why I really disadvise you to use it!
If you're interrested to hear more, stay tuned!
The basics - how is a horse's mouth constructed?
To understand what I want to tell you, you first need to understand how a horse's mouth is constructed.
The thing is, that the lower jaw is slimmer than the upper jaw.
When they eat, they are grinding with their teeth which naturally causes tooth tips.
Those tooth tips are the reason, why a horse regularly needs a dentist.
The thing is, that the tooth tips recur in a few weeks or months, which is faster then the next time they see the dentist.
The context - what is the problem with the english noseband?
The tooth tips are something natural and wouldn't be a problem, if we humans wouldn't interfere.
Because by using a noseband - and I really mean only the noseband, the flash strap is a topic for another video -
so here I'm talking only about the noseband - I'll show you one, just to make sure we're talking about the same thing -
because what happens if we're using a noseband is that the cheek tissue is pressed against the tooth and therefore against the tooth tips.
And if the horse is chewing then - which we actually want it to do -
then the tooth tips rub against the cheek tissue, which can obviously cause cuts and pain.
The solution - which alternatives are there?
The one who actually puttet me up to this was Mr. Falk, as on so many other things
who is just a great horseman and always thinks for the sake of the horses.
Other than from him, I hardly ever read anything about this topic even though it's so evident
and that's why I really felt the need to tell you about it!
The discussion wheather you want to use a noseband at all or not is really another one, just to clarify that again
and if you want to use a noseband, there are nowadays so many alternatives to those common plain nosebands
for example the Micklem, that we really like to use, the drop noseband if your horse's mouth is long enough -
otherwise there is the risk that it is placed to low and causes breathing problems, or the figure eight noseband
In short, every noseband that avoids that section behind the bit.
So if you want to do something good to your horse, replace the plain noseband with another one
even though the dentist visits you regularly.
I hope the video was interresting for you and that it gave you a new approach to this topic
and please share this video or tell it to other people that as many people as possible hear from that and start thinking about it.
Then I hope to see you in another video soon, subscribe us that you never miss a thing on our channel! :D
See you next time, bye! ♥
