Today, I am celebrating twelve years of making videos here on my YouTube channel! So I wanted
to share with you some of the tips and lessons I've learned along the way, in case you're
also a creator or you're thinking about becoming one.
Make videos that make you happy. Whether it's to relive a fun vacation that you went on,
help you be less homesick when you're away at college, or teach someone how to do something
you love, making positive videos can be a great way to cheer up yourself and others.
There's something so wonderful about knowing that you've made someone smile and at the very
least, you can look back at those videos and enjoy the memories associated with them.
Don't be afraid to make lots of different kinds of videos. One of the ways that I've
managed to stay interested for this long is by starting lots of new video series, experimenting
with new formats, and just making whatever video I'm most excited about at the moment.
A lot of people feel like they have to start a whole new channel if they want to try making
videos on a different topic, and you can totally do that if you want to, but I've always
felt like it's okay to test out something different here or there. It is my channel,
after all. And you might be surprised by the response! Remember that your audience is growing
and changing as much as you are. And you need to be happy with what you're making too.
Try out new skills and don't get discouraged if you're not great at them right away!
There's only one way to get better at all of the various skills associated with making
video content so jump in and get some practice. I didn't have any kind of video production
education until last year when I got into YouTube NextUp, so everything else for my
first 11 years on this channel, I just figured out on my own and improved over time. If you're
new at this and you're feeling inadequate compared to some of your favorite YouTube
channels, scroll back and see what they were posting when they first started! And if you've
been making videos for a while like I am, it can help to go back and rewatch some of
your older stuff to see just how far you've come.
If it fits with your format, try asking a question in every video! One thing that I
love about social platforms like YouTube is that they are not one-sided. Use your videos
to start conversations and get to know the community around them! Which brings me to
my next tip, which is reply to people. Even if it's just to thank them for a
nice comment or answer one of their questions, cultivating the community around your content
can be one of the best things about making videos. And don't just stay in your own
comment section - watching creators who are similar to you and commenting on their videos
can be a really great way to make friends! Comment sections can be toxic sometimes, but
I feel like adding some thoughtful and kind comments into the mix can help to counteract
that. And you never know who will read one of your comments, relate to it, and click
through to your channel because of it! One of my former networks actually found me because
I was leaving lots of thoughtful comments on a bunch of their partners' channels.
Make friends on the platform. Whether they're watching your videos, making similar content
to yours, or attending the same in person events like VidCon, you probably have a lot
in common. Plenty of people will tell you that cross promotion and collaboration are
really important for channel growth, but they're leaving something out - that it can be lonely
making content at home by yourself and it's not always a completely rewarding experience.
Having people to talk to and learn from who actually get it can be so important for your
emotional well-being. I value the friendships I've made over the last 12 years here so
so much, whether we've collaborated on a video or not. Actually, a lot of times we'll
be together for a whole weekend and then laugh when we realize that we didn't film anything
at all. And that kind of relationship can be so wonderful. Sometimes I feel bad about
asking to do a collab, so we just spend time together and that's okay too.
Value what you bring to the table. It can be so easy to sell yourself short, to undercharge
potential sponsors, and to let people get you down. What you do is important because
you have the power to make someone's day better, to teach them something new, and to
remind them that they are not alone. Yes, there are occasionally things that you can
learn by listening to your critics, but a lot of the time, they're probably just echoing
the things that you already know and feared about your own inadequacies. Don't let them
convince you to stop trying.
The algorithm will change. The culture will change. The technology will change. But at
the end of the day, your channel is yours and it can be whatever you decide. I'm not
usually interested in jumping in on trending topics or creating controversial content that
will get me seen by more people. I know that the current algorithm rewards long-form daily
videos but I also know that I can't create quality content that quickly. So I make what
I am most excited about when I can manage to get it done, and eventually some of the
people who get excited about those things too have been able to find me. Sometimes things
I make catch on. Usually they don't. Opportunities come and go. Last year, I got chosen for YouTube
NextUp after applying three times, but also VidCon didn't invite me back after doing
performances and panels there for four years. But I'm still here after twelve years because
I like expressing myself creatively through video content and I love the community I've
found here. I do have to remind myself of that sometimes and I've taken breaks when
I've needed them, but you've been here for me when I'm ready to come back. And
for that, I am truly grateful.
I know that things are very different now than they were when I first started back in
early 2006, so if you are a creator too, tell me the most important thing you've learned
through making YouTube videos! And if you're not a creator (yet at least), tell me what
kinds of videos you'd want to make if you were. I hope that maybe this inspires you
to give it a try!
Thanks for a wonderful 12 years (so far) and I'll see you soon.

2019 Aston Martin DB11 Volante Coupe First Drive Review - Duration: 6:01.
The DB1 1 in any of its kinds is a car anyone would want to be seen in.
Classically proportioned yet altogether modern, it moves Aston Martin forward without transgressing
too abruptly with its past.
In generating the droptop Volante version, designers constructed sure not to mess too
much with the coupe's gorgeous silhouette.
Despite a fair bit of reshaping of the rear haunches to accommodate the existing mechanisms
for the folding softtop, they've largely succeeded.
The Volante retains the long, low-grade, athletic stance of the coupe, and, when elevated, the
eight-layer cloth roof itself suffers none of what one Aston designer calls the" soggy
umbrella" appear .
Of course, you'd be crazy not to lower the pinnacle and enjoy the full Volante experience.
Doing so takes 14 seconds( and 16 seconds to create it) and can only be done at accelerates
up to 31 mph.
It's in this state that the DB11 most purely conveys its ethos as a grand tourer for warm-weather
venues.
While many of today's automakers have misinterpreted the GT name as some sort of hard-core high-performance
suffix, Aston allows its DB11 to be a true GT car in ye olde tradition, with a compliant
journey, a comfortable interior, and an effortlessly robust but not brutal sum of power.
The last comes politenes of a version of a twin-turbocharged 4.0 -liter V-8 sourced from
Mercedes-AMG, here producing 503 horsepower and 498 lb-ft of torque .
These pleasing characters are all present in the hardtop DB11, too, and while it's hard
to assess the differences between it and the Volante without back-to-back drives, Aston's
efforts to bolster the roofless model's structural rigidity seem to have paid off.
We noticed nary a quiver, shake, or unseemly tremor during our times with the car, although
we were driving on mostly pristine roads in the south of France.
About 98 pounds of the Volante's claimed 254 -pound weight gain over the V-8 coupe are
attributed to structural improvements, and while the extra weight wasn't specifically
apparent, any DB11 can feel a little bit large on narrow European roads.
Nevertheless, we were impressed with the supple and pleasant journey character, which displays
no retrace of harshness, even with the adaptive dampers in their stiffest setting .
Aston Martin organizes the DB11' s chassis modes separately from the powertrain sets,
although both calibrations share three levels: GT, Sport, and Sport Plus.
We realized the considerable personality shifts offered by these configurations.
Set everything to GT mode and you get a loosened cruiser that combinings the aforementioned
supple journey with somewhat languid throttle reaction, lazy downshifts from the eight-speed
manual transmission, and a pleasant, subjugated exhaust mention.
Sport and Sport Plus chassis modes are hardly transformative, but they add increased heft
to the accurate steer and a little bit less conformity from the dampers.
It's the Sport and Sport Plus powertrain modes that really bring the car to life .
In these settings, the glorious twin-turbo V-8 wakes up, with more immediate response
to throttle inputs, snappier shifts from the gearbox, and a genuinely thrilling soundtrack
filled with characterful pops and cracklings.
The Volante is best enjoyed with the top down, the suspension left in the relaxed GT mode,
the powertrain in its most aggressive Sport Plus mode, and a heavy paw on the right pedal.
After all, heard something is a surefire course to ensure being met .
With the top lowered, spectators will be able to check out the DB11' s plush interior, which
is much improved during Astons of yore.
Partnering with Mercedes-Benz on its electronics has done Aston amazes for modernise the compartment,
as the COMAND-based infotainment system is eminently useable and the presentations all
show crisp and clear.
Even so, some fit-and-finish issues persist and there are elements of cheapness within.
It seems worth it to shell out a little bit extra for some of the most extreme leather
colourings and exotic materials, as the car we drove didn't quite delight with its black
upholstery and somewhat drab piano-black trim .
We've gotten this far without mentioning the 600 -hp, twin-turbo V-12 that' s such a focal
piece in top-level DB11 coupes, and that's because the Volante does without that engine
alternative.
Ostensibly, the reasoning behind the present decision has to do with the weight savings
of the smaller and lighter V-8, although there are environmental considerations too, such
as China's influential displacement tax and certain CO2 regulations in Europe.
This might seem a strange omission from a car whose mission statement is largely one
of indulging, but as we found in our first drive of the V-8 coupe--as well as experiments
of various Mercedes-AMG and -Benz examples powered by this burly V-8--the Mercedes engine
is special enough to provide a compelling alternative to the 12 -cylinder with little
to no sacrifice in performance .
The number of cylinders under the hood has little to do with the marvelous image that
the DB11 Volante projects to others on the road, which really is what this car is an
issue of.
Being seen in the balanced and powerful DB11 Volante is a treat, and so is driving it .

Island Life Phu Quoc, Vietnam - Duration: 7:06.
We're staying at an hostel called Island Life on the Phú Quốc Island
They arranged this boat tour
It includes snorkeling, BBQ and beautiful scenery
We actually have a real boat here to travel with
We just arrived to this small island
The specialty of this tour is that it departs one hour earlier than anyone else
So the whole beach is basically just for us
We're a group of ten people and we all come from Island Life Hostel
I'm pretty sure it will be a nice day with an amazing weather like it is right now
Good thing we arrived early on the first island
After staying there for around thirty minutes, more and more people begun to arrive
After enjoying a lovely lunch the beach was full of people just when we left
Then we continued to this great snorkeling spot
Lot of colourful coral
A lot of fish and sea creatures
And now we arrived on this small and quiet island and on this small beach
There's only one boat here besides ours
So we can enjoy the chill atmosphere
You can also find some coral here just in front of this beach
It has been a very nice day trip so far
This real motor boat totally kicks the long tail boats ass
A lot nicer, faster and better value for money
I certainly choose to stay longer on this beach here compared to just spending the day traveling
It was a nice day by the sea
We saw many beaches and nice sea scenery
We noticed that a cable car is just about to open here south of Phú Quốc
So in the future you can do island hopping here by a cable car
The cable car sure looks ugly
These huge pillars on the islands
I'm not sure if this is a good idea but... Anyway it will be opening very soon
The boat tour costed 600 000 dong which is about 24 euros per person
We joined the tour through our hostel Island Life
It's a lovely small hostel
There are two dorm rooms and three private rooms
We're staying at one of the private rooms which has shared bathroom and shower
One week in this room for two people is only around 100 euros so it's very reasonable
Bamboo!
The atmosphere here is very cozy and idyllic because the hostel is small
Besides the boat tour we've also dined together
And we went to the beach to make a bonfire and to hang out
And we went swimming with the sparking plankton we told about on our previous video
If you're not a beach person, you can also find nice and green nature here on Phú Quốc
Many hiking trails, beautiful and versitile nature and you can even climb a small mountain here
There are a lot of tourists already here on Phú Quốc
It's almost too late already to come here to see the paradise island
Many large resorts are being built here at the moment
But the Ong Lang Beach area where we're staying is still very quiet
So now's the time to travel to Ong Lang Beach
If you liked this video, remember to hit the "like" button
And don't forge to sbscribe!

What Bill and Melinda Gates wish they'd known - Duration: 3:03.
I have one more question from Facebook
and it is from Mark Zuckerberg.
I was so naive about different skill sets.
I thought if somebody had a high IQ, they could be good at everything.
And the idea that you needed to blend these different types of skills together,
that always, continues to surprise me.
And, hopefully, I've learned pretty much by now.
But that sort of notion that there's just this simple idea of smartness
and it could go and solve everything, I wish I'd known better than to think that.
I think I would say for Mark's friend, not for Mark himself,
is to trust yourself.
You probably know more than you think you do.
And then I'll say the other thing is that point of trusting
is trust that you can learn anything.
One of the fun things for me about hanging around my husband
in a work setting and at home is he reminds me all the time,
and he role models it for everybody,
is you can learn any field that you wanna learn.
So just because I didn't learn great biology in high school,
I actually have to learn a lot of it now for the work we do at the foundation.
He's taught me you can just go learn the fields that you didn't learn before.
And that's a really encouraging thing, to know that you can just learn anything.
What would you say?
I think it's along the lines of your first answer.
I would put it as, look at high school me and just say it's not that deep.
When you're in high school, I'm looking at you guys,
everything feels like the biggest deal in the world,
at all times, particularly socially.
There's a day when it feels like everybody hates you
and it feels like the world is gonna end that day.
Honestly, theater is is what saved me from that.
Because once I started getting cast in the school play,
I started making friends outside my grade.
And you realize, "Oh, when the drama is too deep here,
I can go into another hallway where no one even knows any of that."
That's sort of a function of the age.
I think that's a function of adolescence.
It's like everything, the stakes just becomes higher because
you're literally feeling more than you have ever felt in your life.
And sometimes that can have disastrous consequences
when you can't see the long term.
So, I would just say, "It's not that deep.
It's not that deep." That's what I would say.

Okay, well, I said I wanted to fill your inner walls
[Laughter]
Okay, are we good to go?
hi hi i am jeroen and this is the
Newest famous and disguised and this time we are featuring
the beautiful and amazing
Nochtlii!
Hi
Well rehearsed, haha
Are you excited?
I am really excited, definitely. Are you nervous?
A little bit, yes.
Everybody probably knows who I am, but I do not know who they are and what their opinion is.
So I don't know...
We will see.
That's it right? Just cut it.
CUT.
Just cut it. Cut it away.
Do you like it? To be famous?
Uhm, it has two sides, but in general I find it a lot of fun.
What do you like about it?
Of course everything on social media is super personal, so
I like it to speak to everybody face-to-face
So that's what I find cool about it. And the downside is that there
are some really creepy people out there.
Do you have an example?
For example that they want to put it in your butt and afterwards stab you with a knife, that kind of weird stuff.
Of course you have those kind of people and normally it comes from abroad
oké, but those things are really weird.
What do you think will happen if you walk distinguished in public?
Are you excited? I am very excited, but I am also a little bit nervous.
What do you think people will say? I have no idea, because normally
when I meet them in public it is always very positive
But yea, they do not know we are connected so
they could be completely honest with you and not with me
and that suddenly everything comes up and that I am come to cry
But of course, you do not know that.
We are going to distinguish you as a security guard
which fits you I believe, and then we will just see what happens.
Nochtlii is getting dressed, which has been going on for an hour or two
No idea if she's successful.. [Music]
I was thinking, I have this one too. [Laughter]
Oh Jezus [Laughter]
Shall I do your make-up? You can go outside too.
[Muziek]
How does it feel? The Make-over? Yeah, different shall I say haha. I am not sure
No one is going to notice as long as my eyes are hidden
Remove you sunglasses for a sec?
Yes then it is very obvious, even with this on my head.
Let's go!
Are you ready? No. [Laughter]
What are you going to guard? I am going to guard you.
Personal security. Manly Netherlands, eat your heart out.
*Thumbs up* Of course man.
[Music]
What do think of Nochtlii? Yea I don't know, she's hot man.
Hot? Yeah man. Why do you think she's hot? You know, just how she is.
What do you mean? Her body, nice body. What is the best thing about her body? Her butt.
Her butt? Yes, the bibs.
What do you think about Nochtlii?
I don't know really, I think she's beautiful.
Do you know Nochtlii? Yes. What do you think about her? Good looking.
What would we do with her? I would
take her to a hotel. Take her to a hotel? Yeah. Which hotel? Van Der Valk.
Alright. And then? Unfortunately that's not something I can disclose.
Is it that intense?
Yes a bit haha. I would take her out to dinner. Also in Van Der Valk? Yes, yes. Schnitzel? Something like that.
And then? And then the 18+ stuff will follow. [Laughter]
Can you name them?
I am not sure if that is appropriate for the camera. But I would screw her man.
She would probably not survive.
She would not survive? That is shocking.
Yea, certainly shocking.
Sir, could you stop filming please? What? Who are you?
Hi
So now I am very curious what you said. He said that he wanted to screw you in a Van Der Valk Hotel.
Oh. And you would not survive. I would not survive? WOW! Okay.
Not sure how I think about that. Could you tell us what you just said? Interesting.
Don't be shy, come on.
Just give her a hand.
Did you have a Van Der Valk in mind you wanted to go? Akersloot. How were you planning to go?
Come on, just be a man a tell us your plan.
With car. Car? You have a car, or? No. That is something you would arrange?
Would you not take me on a date first?
Being a bit romantic is possible, right? In Van Der Valk? In Van Der Valk? Okay.
What do you think about this Nochtlii? That these young guys say these things.
I am not really stunned to be honest.
What I can arrange is a hug with Nochtlii.
Good luck booking the hotel. If I could give you one tip;
If you're going with a girl, make sure you have dinner first, with a flower, a bit romantic
and not immediately destroy her in a Van Der Valk hotel, right?
Because and I repeat, she would not survive. [Laughter]
Bye! What is happening with mankind.
I don't really think the reactions are all that shocking
Because I know many guys think that way.
But I do find it shocking that people can be so disrespectful and say these things to a camera.
Really, if your mom sees this or if I was your mom,
then you would get, you know what I mean? For me it doesn't matter, I can see the fun of it
I think its funny, especially when I am face-to-face with them and can interrogate them
about how they think about it.
But yeah, it is crazy. What do you think about Nochtlii?
I think it is very cool she was able to make a career switch.
Yes, and what do you think is most cool about that?
Mainly the fact that she was a police agent first
Which is a position where you need some kind of status which requires loads of training.
and subsequently received so many positive reactions
That she thought
That she made the decision to being something completely different than a police agent.
That deserves my respect.
What do you think about her looks? That's what you want to hear, right?
A really beautiful woman. She looks good right? Yes, she is very good looking.
What is the most beautiful asset of her? She has beautiful blue eyes.
Really beautiful eyes. Right? Or am I completely wrong?
Aren't they a little bit green? Sir you cannot film here.
Oh, I cannot film here. And who are you if I may ask?
Hi, I am Nochtlii. He was very positive.
Oh really? Haha joke. I am helping you man.
Yes, I was very positive about you.
I am not sure what you said, but... You really liked her career switch right? From police agent to this.
I think it is very cool you did that. Thank you, I love hearing that.
Just as I said to you, I think it is very
cool and I don't know you, but
you went viral or something because you were a police agent
of course, and then you decided yolo I become a model and see ya later
and that I think that is very cool. I really like hearing that, thank you.
Awkward. Just give each other a hug.
I don't look good today, but forgive me.
Jeroen is going to adjust my make-up, because we do not have a make-up artist with us
Exactly, and I studied for that. Swipe Jeroen, otherwise it will not work.
He just put lipgloss on my nose!
My god. Alright I just do it myself then.
Security guard is ready to go.
What do you think of Nochtlii? She looks good right? What do you think looks good? A hot women.
What do you think about the Instagram
phenomenon of fit girls and fit models?
I think it's a bit exaggerated. What do you think is exaggerated?
That everything is so tight, pants for example.
That's a bit exaggerated in my opinion.
Is that also the case with Nochtlii? Those tight pants?
Could you please stop filming? What are you saying? Could you stop filming?
Then you have to show yourself first.
This is Nochtlii. [Nervous Laughter]
He did not say many bad things, hot woman.

Catchlights: Two Minute Tips with David Bergman - Duration: 2:19.
Hey there.
I'm photographer David Bergman,
and this is Two Minute Tips for
AdoramaTV.
Today we're going to talk about
catch lights. Why they're important, and
how to create them. What is a catchlight
you say? Well I'll tell you. Our
eyes are very reflective, almost like a
mirror. Catchlights are simply the
reflection of the light source and your
subjects eyes. Often it's a small
specular highlight that gives your
subject just a little glint in their eye.
They say that the eyes are the window to
the soul, and catchlights are important
because they give your subject life.
Catchlights can come from any light
source, with the most common being the
Sun. We're used to seeing that tiny speck
of light in the top corner of our
subjects eyes, because that's usually
where the Sun is.
When using a flash we often put it
higher than our subject. Not only is it
generally more pleasing, but the catchlight
mimics the look of the Sun since
you can't see it, once it's below the
horizon. Now to get a good catchlight,
your subject needs to be facing the
light source, whether that's the Sun, a
window, a reflector, or even a flash. Catch-
lights come in all shapes and sizes, and
if we're controlling the light with
flash, the size and shape will change
depending on which light modifier you're
using, and how close it is. As a
photographer you can look at other
people's images and try to figure out
how they lit the photo, just by checking
out the catchlights. In this photo you
can see that I used a photo umbrella
because there's a round shape reflected
in violets eyes. If I was using a softbox
you'd see a rectangular shape, and when I
use a ring-light you see that funky
round donut right in the middle of her
eyes. Catchlights are a small detail, but
don't underestimate their importance to
your portraits, even if you're not
shooting close-ups of the eyes. Control
the size and shape so that you can see
them and bring life to your subjects
through that extra little twinkle in
their eyes. Thanks for joining me today
