Hi guys, I'm Shelly and welcome to another episode of, The Hormone Diaries.
What are we talk about this month? Ovulation! Oh Goody.
This topic puzzles the bejesus, out of me! because I'm still learning about it. so anything I get wrong I apologize in advance.
Who knew ovulation actually affected your body...
So ovulation, is when 1, of your 2 ovaries, either side of your pelvis.....
EeeOoooo (I don't know)
But 1 of the, particular ovaries, chucks out an egg. It goes....... lands in your uterus, and kind of sits there for a week.
Until you either, have a period, or you get knocked up.
They say that, the week of ovulation, is the best time to get knocked up. if you so wish to do that.
But what I didn't know..... is that ovulation, has other effects besides chucking out an egg, and getting you pregnant.
Yeah.... things we weren't taught in school people! Ovulation hurts!
So I've been having periods for.... Oh God how many years? I can't be bothered to do the maths... cos you know. I'm old!
Anyway, I've been having periods for a very, very long time and I was taught in school that...
Once a month, you get pain, blood comes out. That's the end of it.
There may be a couple of days beforehand, you'll get a bit of PMS, you get a bit grumpy, you get a bit bloated, you'll get a bit pre cramping.
What I wasn't taught about, was ovulation. Completely unaware of this, until I downloaded one of those, period tracker apps.
I personally use Clue, because it is free and I ain't got no money.
If any of the lovely tracker companies would like to sponsor me....
More than happy to do that, thanks, please, yes, bring it on.
But for now, I use Clue, as they are free and easy to use.
I downloaded Clue, and started tracking my period.
This big blue section came up. Your ovulation is 6 o'clock, it's straight down. About halfway through your period cycle.
I didn't know about this, I just saw this big blue line down the bottom, that said ovulation..
I'm just like, what? What, what, what is that?
It wasn't till then, that I started tracking the random pain I had been getting since I was 12,13 mid-month..
I was completely unaware that ovulation causes some sort of pain in some women
I don't want to scare people right now, if you're not having periods yet.
If you're just starting, don't freak out! Not all women get ovulation pain,
In fact, most people don't. They're maybe get a little bit of a backache.
But for me, because I have an Endometrioma, and because I have Endometriosis.
I have been getting pain, halfway through my cycle, pretty much the whole time I've been having periods.
I just assumed it was digestion problems, I just assumed it was part of having M.E and EDS, things like that.
I never ever, thought for a second. That it might have something to do with a cycle.
Until I downloaded Clue and my friend was talking to me.
She goes, "Oh yeah, there is such a thing as ovulation pain you know"
News to me!
Why wouldn't we taught this in school? It is ridiculous!
So, ovulation as I said, is the time that your ovary, sticks out an egg.
The symptoms, if you get them. Are pain in the lower back, and either side of your pelvis.
Depending on which ovary is chucking out an egg at a time.
So it can be the left side, or it can be the right side. Depending on which ovary is in play, at the time..
I've been getting a little pain on the right-hand side, nothing major.
But the left-hand side, every other month................. Ladies and Gentlemen, my endometrioma kicks in.
So an Endometrioma, is basically a blood clot. That sits around the ovaries, and I have one on my left ovary.
So every other month, pain people!
For about 3 or 4 days, mid month.
Now obviously, I know it's coming. So I can prepare for it. I know I'm going to be crotchety over those few days.
Because it gets you a bit mad, and I get you a bit angry when you're in that amount of pain.
The truth is, at this point. My period, or my period symptoms.
Sort of last about 3 weeks out of the 4. It is ridiculous!
You'll get the kind of sweet week. The week after the period.
Is the week i can get things done, because that's the only week I'm not in pain, or some kind of hormone mess.
You get a week of intense ovulation pain, followed by a week of PMS....
Don't even get me started on that week.
Followed by the week of the period!
Then we start all over again, Sweet Week, Ovulation, PMS, Period.
If you want to know more about your particular period. When you're gonna get your ovulation week, and so on and so forth.
I would suggest downloading an app like Clue. Or any other app on the market.
There is also another side effect of ovulating....
I don't know if you want to know this. But obviously, when you are ovulating
You are getting ready to have a baby. So the female brain, and the female hormones.
Decide that's the week you'd really like to have sex please!
You just, pretty much want to jump on anybody you see. You just think everybody is pretty.
There is such a thing, they say, as drunk goggles.
So that, if you drunk, you just go home with anybody and in the morning you wake up. You're just like "whoa what happened?"
I think, there's Ovulation goggles!
Everybody I see, when I'm Ovulating. I'm just like, yeah......no! You're pretty. I wanna sleep with them.
My hormones are not my own, at that time in a month. It's, it's ridiculous!
I mean, I don't know if I should be sharing this with you guys. But, but I am, at least once a month...
I want to jump on everybody. It's a bit annoying.
I was taught none of this school. They would never tell you, that once a month you would get exceedingly horny.
And just want to jump on everybody. For some reason, they don't tell you about ovulation.
Even though most sex education in school, is about pregnancy and having a kid.
You think you would warn women, that you know. If you're gonna have sex (which you shouldn't because you're a child)
But if you're going to, you should kind of not have it when you're ovulating.
Or the week after ovulation, if you don't want to get pregnant.
If you're gonna teach people about periods. Do it properly!
Tell them about the whole month, not just the week where you bleeding.
The Ovulation, the PMS, the Sweet Week. All of it. Just educate people properly!
I get very ansy though, that wasn't educated properly. And that other people aren't.
I did not know about Ovulation, till I was 28.
So if you currently in a position, where you have periods. I would suggest, as I said.
Downloading some kind of tracking device, so that you can learn more about your body.
And learn how it reacts, and learn how to treat it better.
Look after yourself, all I can say is when you're Ovulating, when you have PMSing, when you have a period.
Look after yourself! I'm sending you all a very big hug!
I hope you nice and snugged up and warm.
I will see you guys next month, for more TMI about me in my period.
Yeah I think my womb is just having a dance right now, and I'm not invited.
Byeeeee
