Throughout all of the past pokemon games there has always been 1 thing that has stayed the
same.
And that is that the ultimate end goal of every game is to become the Pokemon League
Champion.
And from opponents like Blue, alder, steven, to yes even cynthia these Pokemon champions
have proven to be quite the strong pokemon trainers.
But out of all of the past champions we've had to face, which one is actually the most
difficult?
Well today I think I've come up with what I believe to be the correct answer to who
is the hardest pokemon champion.
What I'll be factoring into this video is how good the champion's pokemon are, how
tough the battles were relative to the pokemon generation there in (For example since cynthia
is the gen 4 champion 1 of her pokemon being spiritomb at that point in time has no weaknesses
since fairy doesn't exist) and how many counters there are to their pokemon.
And as a side note I will not be including Red in this champions video, because when
you battle him, he does not classify as a champion moreso a boss battle like Giovanni
or steven in emerald.
I mean his trainer tag even says pokemon trainer so yeah.
And since there are now 10 different champions if you count kukui and hau talking about all
of them would just take up too much time in the video.
So with that in mind I decided to narrow down the contestants to just the top 3.
Plus we all know champions like lance wallace and diantha have no business being in this
video.
If you guys enjoy the video be sure to leave a like subscribe and share this video with
a friend and with that being said let's get started.
Now I think we all know by now, that when it comes to the newest instalments in the
pokemon franchise pokemon sun and moon, there were a lot of things added that made the game
pretty difficult.
And for sure one of those things has to be the addition of the final challenge to become
pokemon league champion, Professor Kukui!
I mean if you take a look at all of his teams, from top to bottom all of them are very strong
with great moves to go along side it.
To start off kukui will always lead with lycanroc which is amazing simply due to the fact that
it carries the move stealth rock.
And if you've seen any of my previous type videos you'll know how important and powerful
of a move that is.
From there you'll also have to deal with some VERY strong pokemon like Magnezone for
example.
Not only is this pokemon equipped with very strong electric and steel moves, but magnezone
can also paralyze your entire team.
And with sturdy as its ability there's no way you can avoid taking at least 1 attack.
And believe it or not this pokemon is actually one of the easier ones to takeout.
You'll also have to deal with the likes of alolan ninetails and its fairy & ice moves,
braviary with tailwind and brave bird, and the overall monster and thicc boi itself snorlax.
Combine all of these extremely threatening pokemon with the fact that you also take chip
damage everytime you switch out and well let's just say your not gonna have that great of
a time.
Oh and let's not forget to mention that kukui also carries the other starter that's
strong against you.
I personally think the toughest one out of all of them has to be primarina just because
of the fact you'll get less weaknesses.
And funny enough litten was in fact the starter I chose.
But speaking of weaknesses Kukui's team is a very interesting one to look into considering
the fact that his team varies depending on the starter you chose.
If you went with Rowlet the battle would be a whole lot easier because of the fact that
half of his team is weak to rock and ground types and 4 of his pokemon are weak to fighting.
But like I said before if you went with litten like me it would add another strong fairy
type, and a lot less weaknesses to exploit.
Speaking of which even with those weaknesses this team has counters to just about everyone
of them.
You got a fighting problem throw in primarina or braviary, you got a fire problem, lycanroc
or primarina, you got a steel problem snorlax has high horsepower.
And it's not just about the weaknesses another reason why I still think the primarina team
is the strongest is because of the immunities and resistances they have.
Having now 2 pokemon immune to the all powerful dragons, a resistance to fighting which saves
this team, plus the already current immunities to types like ground makes this team comp
really well rounded.
Sure you can expect the ai to always realize this and constantly switch but its good to
know that they still have those counters.
And with that being said, there are things that do hinder kukui's team.
Like I said before half of this team is weak to fighting, and if you can take out primarina
and have a counter for braviary it's pretty much smooth sailing the entire way.
Which leads me to my other point, this team relies way too much on the presence of primarina
to the point where if it's taken out the team pretty much falls apart.
But primarina is pretty bulky and if it can stay alive this team can be very formidable.
Kukui may not be labeled as the conventional champion because he technically isn't one,
but he is the last opponent that will determine whether or not you will be the champion of
the region, so I think that's close enough to count it as one.
Now when it comes to talking about who is the most difficult pokemon champion a contender
who is unquestionably brought into the conversation has to be the champion of sinnoh Cynthia.
Though know as kind of a dragon type trainer considering her strongest pokemon, when you
actually take a look at her team she has probably the most diverse group of pokemon I have ever
seen.
Now for the sake of time i'm only going to be focusing on cynthia's diamond and
pearl team because to be honest I think her platinum team is substantially worse than
her diamond and pearl team.
Sure Togekiss is great gen 6 and on but in generation 4, it isn't that good considering
fairies don't exist plus cynthia's togekiss doesn't have serene grace so it's not
nearly as annoying.
Combine that with the fact that gastrodon only has 1 weakness and cynthia in diamond
and pearl was a higher level I think there's no question her diamond and pearl team was
better.
To start off you'll have to deal with spiritomb which as you guys know from my strongest dual
types video, is one of the best type combos in the game.
Especially if you consider the fact that pre gen 6 this typing had absolutely no weaknesses.
Combine that with the fact that it has strong moves like dark pulse and psychic and well…
yeah.
Oh and another fun point to mention is that cynthia's spiritomb also carries the move
embargo which in any other circumstance would be useless but since you can use items in
the battle can sometimes cost you a pokemon.
Very situational but it is something to mention.
And if you think it gets any easier after spiritomb, well then your gravely mistaken.
You got roserade with a base 125 special attack, gastrodon with overall pretty decent stats,
milotic with marvel scale and amazing bulk, and of course one of the strongest non legendary
pokemon in generation 4 lucario.
Oh and i guess she's also got that one other pokemon, I think it's the strongest non
legendary pokemon period?
Oh it's garchomp.
And what I love so much about cynthia's team besides the fact that it's strong as
hell, is the amount of coverage moves she has.
Ice beam, shadow ball, silver wind, stone edge, her lucario has frickin dragon pulse.
I think with all of the coverage moves that cynthia has, I think she has a counter for
literally every pokemon type.
Which is a perfect segway into talking about the types this team is weak to.
And unlike professor kukui's team cynthia doesn't really have any major weaknesses.
Sure there are a couple of her pokemon weak to fire, grass, and ice but there isn't 1
typing that can take out most of her team.
Plus with all of the weaknesses her team has, there is a counter to all of them.
Fire gets bodied garchomp gastrodon and milotic, lucario can destroy ice, and roserade can
easily take care of grass.
And with all of the coverage moves in cynthia's arsenal she's got a counter for everything.
And as far as immunities and resistances go just look at the carfax there is a lot of
great things to work with here,(show all the resistances and immunities) the highlight
of them being 2 pokemon with immunities to electric types, a strong resistance to fire
types, and half of her pokemon resisting one of the strongest types in the entire game
steel.
To be honest I don't really see anything wrong with cynthia's team she's got great
team synergy, amazing type coverage, no alarming weaknesses to a single type, and she's got
one of the strongest pokemon in the game as her ace.
Sure there are counters to her team, you'll need several different types of pokemon to
take her down, there is no perfect team.
But with all the positives in mind I think there's no doubt here that game freak has
made one of the most formidable champions of all time.
But is it enough?
I gotta say one pokemon generation that has given me the most nostalgia has to be the
third generation.
Sure I technically started in generation 2 but growing up some of my fondest memories
of my childhood were from bringing my sp to school and loading up my save file of pokemon
sapphire.
And even though if I were to include Red in this video this next champion would miss the
cut, Steven is still an incredibly strong and powerful pokemon champion.
Though I normally say type themed teams come with a strong disadvantage having a majority
steel team plus some rock and ground types isn't as bad as you would think.
I mean if there was any type you had to use for a type themed team, you can't really
do much better than the steel typing considering it's got a bevy of resistances.
Plus none of his pokemon are actually purely steel and have good to great complimentary
dual types.
And when you take a look at steven's pokemon he actually has some of very very strong pokemon.
Metagross, aggron, skarmory all of these steel types can be very effective in battle in a
multitude of ways.
His other pokemon as well claydol cradily armaldo all have role to play and can fit
his team comp pretty well.
Now as far as differences in teams go there isn't much of one between stevens team in
omega ruby, and his team in the original games.
The only differences I see are better moves that fit each pokemons stats like giga impact
and zen headbutt on metagross and x-scissor on armaldo.
Oh and let's not forget to mention that steven in ORAS now has a Freaking mega evolution
in mega metagross so yeah we're gonna focus on oras here.
To start off steven will always send out his skarmory first.
Like kukui his first pokemon is mainly sent out first to throw up hazards only skarmory
doesn't have the all powerful stealth rocks but the not as good spikes.
What sucks about this hazard move is that it doesn't affect every pokemon if you have
a flying type it will take no damage.
Plus you also have to set up multiple spikes in order to get any real damage per switch
in.
BUT luckily for steven Skarmory just so happens to be one of the best physically defensive
walls in the game so with that in mind plus the ability sturdy, you're practically guaranteed
to at least get on spikes up.
But spikes isn't the only moves skarmory carries because you'll also have to deal with the
likes of aerial ace, steel wing, and everyone's favorite toxic.
From there you'll have to deal with other very strong pokemon like Aggron, armaldo,
and of course Mega metagross.
But even the less powerful pokemon on his team like claydol and cradily both have a
role to play.
Claydol is useful not only for its slight type differentiation, but also for the fact
that it can set up both a reflect and light screen to lessen the power of your moves.
Claydol in that aspect functions great as a support mon.
As for cradily she functions more as counter to one of this teams biggest threats being
the water types.
Speaking of which when it comes to the weaknesses department this team comp does have a fair
bit of weaknesses with the highlight of them being that water is strong against half of
his team.
Now this can be a problem but like I said before that's what cradily is on the team
for.
And if you take a look at the teams immunities and resistances this team actually has the
most amount in total comparatively to the other 2 teams.
Like i've stated in the past steel really is the ultimate defense.
But unfortunately this is where I think pros end for steven.
While yes there is a counter to a giant weakness on his team, cradily does not fully resist
water type moves and that's just 1 pokemon.
If cradily were to be taken out by lets say a fighting type Steven would be toast.
And unlike someone like cynthia steven doesn't have the luxury of having those versatile
coverage moves.
Steven suffers from the same problem as Kukui where he becomes heavily reliant on 1 pokemon.
But on the other side of the spectrum cradily is pretty bulky and he's got a mega metagross
which can't be ignored.
Overall what I love about stevens team is that even though not all of his pokemon are
amazingly strong offensively they all have roles to play that can make them useful.
It just goes to show that strength comes in all shapes and sizes.
I think steven is a good champion, but is good enough to crown him as the hardest pokemon
champion?
Let's find out!
Now with all of these points in mind out of these 3 accomplished pokemon trainers, which
one is the hardest/most difficult pokemon champion?
And after extensive research for this video I have determined that undoubtedly the strongest
pokemon champion has to be... (drumroll) Cynthia.
I mean was it really any surprise here who was going to win?
Cynthia since her introduction to the series was religiously accepted by the masses as
the toughest pokemon champion.
Sure the other champions are strong and great, but you can those teams with 3 of the right
pokemon, with cynthia, you need a whole squad because not only does she have the diverse
types, but cynthia also has the coverage moves to cover her tracks.
Plus garchomp is just a beast.
You know there is saying nowadays that goes, "behind every great man is an even greater
woman."
And especially in this case it reins to be true.
The Hardest Pokemon
Champion is Cynthia.
