[Tourist SIM Thailand] How to buy a prepaid Thai SIM card in Bangkok? - Duration: 9:20.Welcome to the twenty-forth video of Bangkok Unmasked!
The YouTube channel that helps you get the most out of your visit to Bangkok city!
If you're new here, please consider subscribing!
In this video I'm going to look at how to buy a prepaid Thai SIM card, also known as
a tourist SIM, in Bangkok.
Let's get started!
If you're going to be in the city for any length of time you'll need to buy a prepaid
Thai SIM card.
I'm an internet addict, so being offline is quite out of the question.
Email, Line, WhatsApp, and Skype aren't just nice to have.
They're a must have!
I think for most Bangkok visitors it's worth buying a SIM card simply to have access to
Google maps!
So, before you arrive...
Before you arrive in Thailand you need to find out if your phone is locked or unlocked.
If your phone is locked you won't be able to use a Thai SIM card in your phone.
Did you pay more than $500 for your smartphone?
If so it's almost certain that it's unlocked, and you'll be fine.
So what to do if my phone is locked?
One option is to buy a cheap unlocked phone before you arrive in Thailand.
The other option is a pocket WiFi [also known as MiFi] device.
This gives your smartphone an internet connection to use all features except voice and SMS.
The first option to buy a SIM card in Bangkok!
In Suvarnabhumi Airport, there are several places to buy a Thai SIM card.
The best spot is the operator's kiosks after you exit customs.
This is right outside of the International gates where people hold up signs.
There are kiosks for all of Thailand's main mobile operators. Which are; DTAC [which has a blue logo], AIS [which has a green logo]
and TrueMove [which has a red logo].
An important note:
The Thai NBTC [which is the Office of The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications]
is now enforcing that all SIMs are registered to a user.
To do this the staff will take a photo of your passport and upload it to the NBTC servers
from inside their smartphone app.
So...Tourist SIM Thailand
The base option is an unlimited internet for 8 Days and THB100 worth of calls, and SMSs.
There are also other options like 15 and 30 day packages.
The SIM card will be tri-cut.
This means that it'll fit in all cell phone SIM card slots i.e. nano, micro and standard.
What follows are the current options to buy a Thai SIM card.
This information is good as of February 2018.
The first option is TrueMove.
They have an 8 Day Pass which costs 299 Baht. It's called the Thailand 4G+ Tourist SIM.
You get
- 4G Non-Stop Internet [You get a Max Speed up until 3GB of data usage]. - Free Social Messaging.
- Free WiFi. - and 100 Baht credit worth of calls and text.
They also have a 15 Day Pass. This is 599 Baht and also called the Thailand 4G+ Tourist SIM. You get:
- Non-Stop Internet. - 4G Speeds [up until 8GB of data usage].
- Free WiFi. - and 50 Baht credit for calls and text.
Next we'll move to AIS.
AIS have a Purple package which is 299 Baht. It's called the Traveller SIM. You get: - 8 days of Unlimited Internet [You get Max speeds up until
3GB of data usage]. - 100 Baht credit for calls [with a 30 day validity].
- And calls home start from 1 Baht/minute.
They also have a Blue package. This is 599 Baht and also called a Traveller SIM. - It's good for 15 days of Unlimited Internet. [You get Max speeds
up until 6GB of data usage]. - 100 Baht worth of call credit [with a 30 day validity]
- And again calls home start from 1 Baht/minute.
Finally we have DTAC.
They have a Purple package which is 199 Baht. It's called the Happy Tourist. It's good for 7 days. You get Unlimited Internet. [Which is 500 MB of data usage at max
speed, then it's throttled]. - Free calls in a group on their network.
- And special international call rates via 004.
They also have a Yellow package which is 299 Baht, called the Happy Tourist. This is good for 8 days. You get:
- Unlimited Internet [For 3GB of data at max speed, then it's throttled again].
- You get 100 Baht worth of call credit.
- Unlimited calls among Happy Tourist SIM card 299 users.
- And special international call rates via 004.
Finally they have the Green package. This is 599 Baht and also called the Happy Tourist. - It's good for 15 days. You get Unlimited Internet. [Which is 6GB of data usage at max
speeds]. - 100 Baht worth of credit for calls and SMSs.
- And special international call rate via 004 again.
Now the second option is to buy a SIM card in Bangkok!
If you're not able to get a SIM card in the airport, no problem.
Every 7-11 in the city carries TrueMove SIM cards and Top Up Credit.
And 7-11's are on literally every street corner!
Like in the airport you'll be asked for ID in order to register the telephone number.
A note; 7-11 is owned by the CP Group who also own True Corporation - that's behind the company
TrueMove.
You can also go to FamilyMart to buy an AIS Traveller SIM.
While FamilyMart is not as common in Bangkok as 7-11, they do have a solid presence in most
of the tourist areas outside Bangkok.
Another important note:
You can either recharge your phone's credit in either 7-11/FamilyMart, or online.
DTAC and TrueMove allow you to add extra credit to your SIM card through their websites.
I'll include the URLs in this video's description below.
So which is the best Thai SIM card to buy?
The short answer is that there isn't really a 'best option'.
All three operators have pros and cons.
With that said, if you're in Bangkok, their signal and 4G coverage is pretty much the
same everywhere in the city.
With this said, the latest OpenSignal.com report stated the following.
And I quote.
TrueMove dominates our 4G speed and availability award.
Winning three of our six awards outright, TrueMove was definitely the operator to beat
in our speed and availability categories.
It provided our users with an LTE signal more than 90% of the time, and it had the fastest 4G
download speeds in our user tests.
They also noted; Excellent LTE availability for all
While TrueMove won our 4G availability award a clear 8 percentage points ahead of its nearest
rival, all three major operators excelled in the category.
AIS users were able to access a 4G signal 82% of the time and even third-placed DTAC
provided our testers with LTE signal access 75% of the time, according to our results.
And finally they noted; DTAC rates highest in network responsiveness.
Our two latency metrics showed DTAC as a clear winner in both 4G and 3G responsiveness.
Our users experienced delays of only 33.6 milliseconds on DTAC's 4G network and 70.4
ms on its 3G networks. End quote.
The awards table in the OpenSignal.com report clearly shows TrueMove has the advantage!
They win awards in the following categories; Download Speed: 4G, Download Speed: 3G, Download
Speed: Overall and Availability. And 4G.
Check out the link under this video to geek out on the 'State of Mobile Networks in Thailand'!
Also if you're heading to a specific area outside of Bangkok, go to OpenSignal.com and
zoom in on your destination to find the best provider.
It might be that either DTAC or AIS is better choice on certain islands for example.
Anyway...That's it for this video.
I hope that helps answer all your questions on; 'How to buy a prepaid Thai SIM card in
Bangkok?'
Expect a new video shortly.
It should be posted in about a week, or so.

Introducing famous Inns and spots among foreign tourists in Fukuoka.Japan in Motion S14#06 - Duration: 10:18.Hello everyone, I'm Chiharu Higa.
Today I want to introduce a hotel which is popular among foreigners.
Let's find out why it is famous.
I will also introduce some of the surrounding tourist attractions as well.
So here I go.
Around here is a hotel famous among foreigners
The name is Kashima Honkan.
This must be it.
The atmosphere changes suddenly.
This place is right in the middle of Fukuoka,
but it feels like I have time traveled.
Hello.
What a nice building here!
Thank you very much
I heard it's very popular among foreign tourists
Yes, there are quite a lot of foreign guests.
This is the first national heritage building in Fukuoka
The Japanese style inn Kashima-Honkan.
The Taisho era roman style lobby and Sukiya style built room.
And the calm Japanese style garden
All of them built to enjoy the traditional Japanese style.
This is the indoor garden.
This is so wonderful. So beautiful.
Very traditional.
There hasn't been so much changes added
-It seems to be better that way -I can see that it's not so artificial.
That's right.
Nice scent of the Tatami mat.
This is nice.
The scent of Tatami is well appreciated.
I can see that.
I really want to relax here.
This is nice
This spot is excellent.
Our guests love it when the room faces the garden.
It's like a place where the essence of Japan is combined into one.
The guests from the western world are more from Europe than USA
France, Germany, Belgium.
And Netherlands. Quite a lot of Dutch people.
They seem to understand the magnificence of this place.
So the repeating guest abroad tells us to reserve this room
Or other specific room. They seem to know their preference.
So people who love the Japanese culture as a whole comes?
Yes, I feel people from Europe tend to be that way.
That is so enlightening.
The price for stay at this inn changes a bit by the season,
but the price starts from 8000 yen for two people.
Five minutes walk from that inn
This area has a spot where you can enjoy the culture of Hakata/Fukuoka.
That is Kushida Shrine.
This is the shrine where the Hakata Yamakasa, the festival to tell the arrival of summer is held
As it is written here, the mountain starts from here.
From the 1st to the 15th of July, the traditional festival of Hakata Gion Yamakasa is held.
The festival goes back nearly 700 years.
What catches the eyes first is this.
It is the twelve signs of Chinese zodiac.
Right now it is the year of the bird,
but it is pointing to the wild bore now.
It is said that it is pointing to the lucky zodiac of the year on this graph.
This Kushida shrine is quite popular among foreign guests.
There were a lot of tourists paying a visit this day
Where are you from?
The Netherlands.
-Holland -Holland!
Yesterday we arrived.
-Today? -By plane.
Came by plane!
-Welcome -Thank you.
Welcome
Let's enjoy.
Thank you very much.
Bye bye!
In this shrine where there are a lot of guests from abroad,
there are a lot of fortune telling draws which are written in different languages.
When you go out from here, you'll find something amazing.
I'm sure you will be surprised
The Yamasaka.
The mountain.
This is called the Kazariyama and goes 10 meters high.
It is made by Hakata doll designers.
The Kazariyama which you can only see in the festival season
can be seen only here.
So big! 10 meters!
Chiharu now visits where you can enjoy the culture and history of Fukuoka
The Furusato-kan.
Here you can enjoy one experience of Yamakasa.
It says " Do you want to carry this log?"
-I can carry this? -Yes
Here you can carry the log which is used for the Yamakasa
So Chiharu tries it for the first time.
-Here I go. Ohhh -Yes yes
Amazing. I guess you cannot put a cushion here or anything?
It's so hard that it hurts so much.
This is quite an experience.
On the second floor, you can see the artifacts made close by.
What are you making here?
That one.
Oh this one!Amazing
Hakata Hariko which is decorated inside home to bring in good luck.
Since the decoration is flashy, and the colors to be bright,
it is quite famous among tourists.
Hello
What are you making?
We have guest here today for the coloring session.
-Is it difficult? -Quite difficult.
-I don't have the skills so it's hard -You need drawing skills?
No skills needed.
-Where are you decorating it? -The entrance.
Hoping it will bring in good luck to the house
That's wonderful.
You can also buy Hakata traditional artifacts and Hakata goods in the souvenir shop right next door
This is a name card. When I open it up...
So cute.
Get the nice souvenir while enjoying the tradition and culture of Hakata.
Going around made me hungry.
Hakata is said to be where Udon started.
This Hakata Akachokobe seems to be a place to serve Hataka Udon in a different way
Let's try it out.
Udon is quite famous in Japan.
What does it mean by a strange shaped Udon?
I actually have heard about it.
A very strange Udon
But I have never eaten it. It's my first time to try it.
I'm looking very forward to this.
I wonder what it looks like
Ok, here it is.
-Oh my, it comes out like this? -Yes
Can you see this? It's in a pot.
Udon is actually in a pot.
The name for this is, Zubora Udon.
-What a name -Yes, the impact of this look is quite.
What do people react when they see this?
They sound pretty surprised when it comes out.
It's quite boring when it comes out in a bowl,
so I went to get a pot and added it in.
-It's like an entertainment Udon -Yes yes!
This is basically a steamed Udon to dip in a Natto sauce.
So I should dip it in,
and just eat it?
That's the right way to eat it?
The noodle is quite unique as well.
It has the wheat germ in it. - I can see that.
-Not white -No, it's brown
Let's try
So good.
It's quite strong texture.
The texture is quite smooth, and like a rice cake,
-but it's quite a mouthful -Yes.
And the stickiness of the Natto gives additional smoothness.
There is some Natto inside.
That's why the texture is quite different
Do people abroad eat this as well?
Quite a lot. We have around 4 guests from abroad per day
They either choose this Zubora Udon or the Kema Curry Udon
The two is the main.
The top 2. Wait, I feel people abroad do not like Natto that well.
True. We ask before we serve it, but most people has no problem.
Taking photos of this and uploading on Instagram
When people come, they would usual take pictures before eating it.
This would be famous among girls, so hopefully they would share it globally.
