How to Track Text to Objects in Adobe After Effects CC! (3D Camera Tracker) - Duration: 8:32.What's going on everyone, Kellan Reck here. Today I want to show you a quick
tutorial on how to 3d camera track in Adobe After Effects we're just gonna do
a quick example with text so that you can see how this effect works and how
easy it is for you to do I'm pretty much any of your shots so let's dive into
After Effects and I'm gonna use a drone shot that I got here up in Maine and
we're just gonna track some text to this house and you can see how really easy it
is so let's drag this into a new composition just drag it over this
composition icon here and this will make a composition that is the same size as
your footage and is the same time as your footage so right at the beginning
of our clip here my drone flies just past this house and I want to track some
text right to the edge of the top of the house here so that we can see the text
sticking into the house as the drone flies right past so what do I do well
there's a couple ways you can do this the way that I like to do it is if you
go to your effects and presets and you look up the 3d camera tracker you'll see
the effect right there and you can just drop that red on your clip the other way
you can do it is go to window and track her and that'll pull up your various
tracker settings if you click on your clip you can track camera track motion
and then all of the warp stabiliser options as well track camera is the same
thing as the 3d camera tracker track motion is a different style of tracking
then I'm going to go over in a separate video so let's do the effect in preset
here I'm just gonna drag this on top of my clip and what it'll do is the 3d
camera tracker is going to analyze the entire clip so this could take a while
you see that up at the top you can see it's initializing and then it'll go
frame by frame as it analyzes your clip now the bigger the clip again and the
longer it is the more time it will take so what I'm actually gonna do here this
is 700 frames I'm gonna cancel this effect and all I need is the clip to go
to about here so I'm gonna actually get rid of the rest of it so that this goes
a little faster for you and we'll drag the 3d camera track right back on there
and again it's gonna analyze your clip and there are some advanced settings so
that you can change the solve method and you
to a detailed analysis those you might have to get into if you have a more
complex movement in your shot but for a simple drone movement that's very smooth
all you really need is your basic 3d camera tracker now as this runs just
want to talk a little bit about what the 3d camera tracker is it is a camera
tracker exactly what the name says so what it's doing is creating a virtual
camera the camera in this shot is the camera that's on my drone it's moving
through the shot a 3d camera tracker is basically building a virtual version of
that drone camera so that we are able to determine various points in our footage
and then attach either text or solids to those clips so once your tracker is done
analyzing you'll notice that your footage now has if you click on the
footage and click on your 3d camera tracker see there's all of these points
and when you go over the points colored points you get a target bull's eye
now what that is doing is these points are all tracks to your footage and when
you click on them it'll make a triangle and the bullseye is the plane at which
you're tracking to so you can see here we've got you know various planes on the
trees various plans on the house and the windows and the chimney here and you can
also select a whole bunch of them by clicking and drawing around them and
that'll create a plane of all of these points so what I want to do for this
footage is create a piece of text that is tracked right to this edge of the
house we fly right through it so what I want to do is track right on the this
edge plane here so what I'll do is I'll go in close to this edge and you can see
all of these points that make up the edge of the house and I'm just gonna
circle a bunch of them trying to make sure that it's all on the same plane and
I don't need to get them all but you can see that I've got basically all the
points or most of the points that are making up the edge of this house and you
can see there's some on the ladder here if you wanted to track to that I just
want to track to the same sort of Z distance that that house is on that edge
of the house so once I have them all selected I right click and I have a
whole bunch of options and create text in a camera solid in the camera know
a camera and all of these different things can be used in different ways if
I wanted to create a solid I could then add an image to the edge of the house or
I could add a video to the edge of the house but for this I just want to do a
simple text in camera so now you can see we've got our camera built that will
travel through the scene and we've got our text that right now is track to the
edge of the house so let me let this play out for a minute and you can see
our text fits perfectly on the edge of the house no problem
it's stuck right to it and obviously this is playing back a little slow
because it's a heavy project here cool but what I want to do is I want this to
swing out so that we fly through it so once you have an element tracked and
you'll see that this text if you look down here is is marked as a 3d object
that makes itself that way once I've created that once I right-click and do
text and camera it makes a 3d object and that's how it travels through 3d space
here so what I can do at this point is if I click and drop down to transform I
have the option to actually adjust and rotate my text here so let's say let's
move it in Y space so that it runs along the wall the opposite of the wall and
then I can move the position too and just move it out I could also just click
and move it out so that it pops off the wall a little and then you can change
your text so we'll change this to say motion track and we'll move it out a
little more
and you can still rotate as much as you want so that it lines up properly so you
can move all of these elements and the tracked object will still follow
wherever you were tracking from so it's still tracked to this edge of the wall
that I can move it in various places and rotate it any way that I need now you'll
see as I move we'll get closer and we'll just fly right through that object now
if I want it to fly directly through the middle I can just move it a little bit
more as much as you need you can scale it up if you want and that'll do for
what I'm trying to get here and we'll just fly right through and if you see
here once we get close to it I actually don't have enough so I can just drag
this out and we can finish the tracking but you can see that this is doing
exactly what I wanted to and it's really as easy as just letting the 3d camera
tracker play out right clicking and then determining whether you want a text or a
solid and then having it tracked to your scene and it's really easy you can
change the color of this you can change the texture you know anything you want
with it and obviously this needs to analyze again because I didn't make it
long enough easy enough it's just gonna analyze those extra
frames and we'll fly right through the text so basically what I want to do with
this video is just show you that it's not very hard to track things you'll see
people like Peter McKinnon and other youtubers who do these types of tracking
points and they just sneak them into their intros or their outros and they'll
do little titles with them and this is all they're doing they have a moving
clip toss your 3d camera tracker on top and then create your text or create your
solid or your know and attach the various objects to it and it'll tract
your scene it's super easy to do so I hope you guys enjoyed this I want to do
more videos on motion tracking because there's a few other ways to do it and
after effects for those tricky Clips that have a little bit of more difficult
motion this clip because it's the smooth drone is pretty easy to track but there
are other types of shots handheld shots that are a little bit more difficult so
I hope you enjoy it I hope you can use this in your videos I'm posting videos
every Wednesday at 10 a.m. the goal of helping you become a better photographer
better filmmaker and I think we can do this together
so come on back like the video if you enjoyed leave a comment if you have any
questions thanks for watching we'll check you back in the next one

Here's Why Everyone Loves the Ford Bronco - Duration: 4:34.welcome to wacky Wednesday's where everyone has a chance to show off their
car mods, and here's this week's winner,
hey Scotty thanks for the chance to let me show off my 1996 Ford Bronco, let me
show you around, so when this Bronco was new in 1996, it was a government vehicle
driven by an OSHA inspector and I'd say that OSHA inspector is probably the
coolest guy on the job site, the biggest modification I made to my truck is a
six-inch suspension lift and some 35 inch Mickey Thompson tires, I also
installed some worn locking hubs, so here's a picture of my Bronco when
I first got it, I've spent countless hours on it to get it to where I want it
to be, I did paint the top because of all the exposed fiberglass, but the body
paint is all original and as you can see it is pristine, the engine is a stock
Windsor 351 v8 and behind that is a e4od 4-speed automatic transmission, I design
and fabricated this rear bumper, it's got reverse lights, d-rings, trailer hitch and
a full-size 35 inch tire that is on a swivel, which I can open up and once you
open this up, locks right there, and then you can come over here and with the key
can roll down the rear window and reach in here grab the handle and the tailgate
is assisted as so it doesn't break the glass window that's on the inside and in
this cargo area you have two pockets, I added a light switch here and that turns
on some LEDs, that will light up this rear area for when I take the rear seat out
and put a bed back here for camping, so this Bronco is full of many modern
amenities, you have a am/fm radio, no cassette no CD, simpler I have AC blows
cold, you have crank windows, manual locks, wing windows
that's luxury, and if you and your friends are on the cigarettes hard
you have three ashtrays, and down here I put a switch which turns on some lights
and this being in 96, it's the only year of the Bronco with obd2 and of course
have the CB for talking on the trails
something I'm not too happy about is the center console, I had to add this divider
here because anything you put in here slides forward and doesn't allow you to
put your beverage into the cup holder, I also don't like this pocket because if
you put stuff in there and close it, just falls out, I wired up a switch and two
12-inch light bars they are phenomenal, future plans for this truck are to do a
solid axle and a manual swap, if you want updates on that you can follow my
instagram at ccc 4x4, thanks for watching,
well that was this week's video and to have your car mod shown on my channel
here, check this out, so if you never want to miss another one of my new car repair
videos, remember to ring that Bell!

Games & Comic Con - Interview Chimeral Cosplay - Duration: 4:39.So, we are with Chimeral Cosplay
One of the juries of the cosplay contest
Can you tell us a little about yourself?
So me it's Chimeral, I'm doing cosplay since 2013 in France
I'm jury with Gatz and Yukihina who are also invited for this first games & comic con
So the cosplay world cup was the first they did in 2017
I took advantage of the experience to challenge myself
A craft challenge but also a performance challenge
I was first selected in my area with this costume
After I had 7 months to craft a big costume for the final
So we were 20 finalists, each one selected in his region in France
I made a harpie from might on magic heroes
A cosplay that was very complicated to craft, there were big wings with big paws, a resin helmet etc.
It was very hard to meet deadlines, to do it in such a short time
I do not usually have a deadline because I work in parallel
I have a full time job besides cosplay
But it was a great experience
I took the name of the chimera because it has many meanings
It's a mythological beast and I love all the fantastic universes
Dragons, harpies, chimeras etc.
All these beasts that do not exist, the fantastic beasts
But also the chimera in the sense that I have a lot of cosplays half human half creature
Like Shyvana from League of Legends, or a blossom from Battlerite
And the other name is the chimera all that is imaginary in the creative sense
We did not know what to expect because it's not a country we know
And we were very curious to see how was the Algerian cosplay community
And we did not think it would be so warm, it feels like a big family
We can talk to everyone, those we saw on Friday we saw them on Saturday, it's like our friends it's really nice
And on the side of the cosplay competition, there is very good performances
Frankly, the scene dynamism was super cool, we had fun
Yesterday we had 25 participants in the competition and it was only happiness
They scared us sometimes during the fights performances, they throw themselves on the ground !
But it was super cool !
On the side of the craft we saw some very cool stuff too
And I hope that next year we will have other cosplayers a little more experienced
I was shown some pictures of Algerian cosplayers who are really very talented
it will be cool that they show a little what is the cosplay in Algeria to everyone
I wanna talk about a stall that we saw yesterday and before yesterday, it's the geek girls
an algerian group that promotes geek culture at a female level
And I encourage this group because, of what I saw, girls in the world of geek are not necessarily very well perceived
It was the case in France a decade ago
And in Algeria I think I was told that there are about 6 or 7 boys cosplayers for only one girl and it's a shame that it is not more developed
We talked with the geek girls and they really want to shre this passion
Video games should not be reserved for boys only
I'm sure there are lots of girls who love video games and I think they do not dare to put it forward in this area if it's badly perceived
In any case I encourage and I hope that it will develop a little and that girls will dare to talk more about their geek and cosplay passions
Have fun in any case, I know it's hard sometimes
There are many people who give negative opinions because they do not understand our passion
Focus on the positive
Live your passion thoroughly
And frankly we saw all those who went on stage they burst themselves and it's really fun to see so keep it up!
Thank you for everything Chimeral, I hope we can see you again in Algeria
Thank you for everything !

Neo Meets Morpheus / Blue Pill or Red Pill Scene | The Matrix (1999) Movie Clip - Duration: 4:31.At last.
Welcome, Neo.
As you no doubt have guessed...
...I am Morpheus.
It's an honor to meet you.
No...
...the honor is mine.
Please, come. Sit.
I imagine...
...that right now you're feeling a bit like Alice...
...tumbling down the rabbit hole?
You could say that.
I can see it in your eyes.
You have the look of a man who accepts what he sees...
...because he's expecting to wake up.
Ironically, this is not far from the truth.
Do you believe in fate, Neo?
No.
Why not?
I don't like the idea that I'm not in control of my life.
I know exactly what you mean.
Let me tell you why you're here.
You know something.
What you know, you can't explain.
But you feel it.
You felt it your entire life:
Something's wrong with the world. You don't know what, but it's there.
Like a splinter in your mind...
...driving you mad.
It is this feeling that has brought you to me.
Do you know what I'm talking about?
The Matrix?
Do you want to know...
...what it is?
The Matrix is everywhere.
It is all around us.
Even now, in this very room.
You can see it when you look out your window...
...or when you turn on your television.
You can feel it when you go to work...
...when you go to church...
...when you pay your taxes.
It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes...
...to blind you from the truth.
What truth?
That you are a slave.
Like everyone else, you were born into bondage...
...born into a prison that you cannot smell or taste or touch.
A prison...
...for your mind.
Unfortunately, no one can be...
...told what the Matrix is.
You have to see it for yourself.
This is your last chance.
After this, there is no turning back.
You take the blue pill...
...the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe...
...whatever you want to believe.
You take the red pill...
...you stay in Wonderland...
...and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.
Remember...
...all I'm offering is the truth. Nothing more.
Follow me.

How to evaluate learning - Duration: 9:17.I am so thrilled to announce our latest regular columnist. It's Will Thalheimer.
and Will is someone with 20 years of experience in his work learning blog.
He's the research guy. He surveys research, he does research, and he's the
research-to-practice person. And today I've asked Will if we can have a
discussion around evaluation and the importance of evaluation and how to get
it right. So, Will, welcome, thank you very much for joining us. And my first
question is, very simply: why bother evaluating?
Well, there's three reasons to
measure learning. One, we can try to prove the effectiveness of our learning
interventions or assess those. Number two, we can support our learners in learning.
And number three, and this one tends to be forgotten, we can get feedback on our
learning designs to make them better. I tend to focus on the third one because I
think it's the most valuable. Now why am I, a guy who's focused a lot of his time
in his career doing research to practice, looking at the scientific journals on
learning memory and instruction, and translating that research into practical
recommendations – why am I interested in learning evaluation? The reason is simple,
that our research gives us a really good starting point. It gives us our
hypotheses. We should design our learning based on research. But then, if we're not
getting feedback on a day-to-day basis, we're not sort of living up to our role
as a professional. We need to get that feedback to make what we're doing better.
It's very simple. Learning evaluation is critical if we're ... if we want to do our jobs.
We can't avoid talking about the Kirkpatrick method. But he didn't
actually invent it, did he? Can you explain why it still has resonance today?
That's right. Donald Kirkpatrick was not the originator of the four-level concept.
In fact, in 1956, it was Donald Kirkpatrick that wrote an article that
told us who the real creator was. And that person is Raymond Katzell. Raymond Katzell.
I've been now calling the model the Kirkpatrick Katzell model or
just the four-level model to give Raymond Katzell his due. But we ought
to realize that Donald Kirkpatrick owes a lot of credit as well. He's the one
that came up with the labels for the four levels: reaction, learning, behavior,
results, and he was fairly exhaustive throughout his life, starting a lot
actually in the 1990s in really pushing the four-level model. So both men deserve credit.
And yeah, interesting story. If people want to read more about that they
can go to my blog at worklearning.com. worklearning.com.
So has the Kirkpatrick model any residual life left in it?
Yeah, it's probably the most dominant model in the workplace learning field. Number one.
So there's certainly life in it. I think what you're asking is: Is it valid? Is it valuable? It is, in many ways.
It's resonated because it's simple. People can wrap their heads around it easily.
It sends, you know, has a lot of face validity, seems right.
Of course, there, you know, a lot of people love it, a lot of people hate it, a lot of people
like it for some things and not for others. It has some weaknesses as well.
Let's take level two: learning. So learning is a big thing, right?
Much more complicated than rocket science. Very complex.
Lumping learning into one bucket is problematic because learning can be, you know, demonstrated.
When we evaluate it can be demonstrated by simple tests of regurgitation of trivial
information. It can be demonstrated by people wrangling with complex decisions
to make, it can be having them actually make and perform real tasks.
So you can see the range of learning. And yet it's put in one bucket in the Kirkpatrick Katzell model.
And that's a problem because what happens is, we as learning
professionals, we tend to default to the lowest common denominator, the least
thing we can get away with. And we do knowledge checks on trivial information.
So that's a problem. The Kirkpartick Katzell model also is silent on remembering.
We know as learning professionals that one of our key responsibilities is to help
people remember what they've learned. And yet, the Kirkpatrick model is silent on that.
The Kirkpatrick model is also silent on what evaluation methods are
inadequate. We do a lot of bad things in terms of evaluation. We measure butts in seats.
We measure attendance, we measure low-level interactions, like on
e-learning: have people signed into the forum etc. These things are not that
relevant to overall success. So definitely, there's some real value on ...
Here's one thing the Kirkpatrick model did that was really valuable: It sent a message.
It sent a message that the endpoint should not be learning.
It should not be the classroom. The endpoint, the goal should be creating results,
creating behaviors that change, creating organizational results. That is a key
idea in the transformation of the whole workplace learning field.
Now, the Kirkpatrick Katzell model was not the only one pushing that message. But because
everybody was using it, it was very influential in that regard. But overall I
think the difficulties, the problems with the model outweigh the benefits.
Okay, I get all of those points. So is there something better that can do a better job for us?
I think there's something better. But let's start acknowledging that we have
to have a ton of humility in thinking about learning evaluation. It's a really
difficult thing to do. Human learning is complex. Very, you know,
difficult to wrap our heads around. And then you wrap learning evaluation on top
of that. It's even harder. So we should be humble and we should be open to learning
and like that. So, but I've been frustrated with the evaluation space for
a long time. When I look at some of the learning research and then think about
how we're measuring learning, things don't seem to add up.
So for the last year or so, I've tried to build a new model. And with the help of
many others, some of the top minds in our field, I put together a model called LTEM.
L - T - E - M, the learning transfer evaluation model. And what LTEM does is:
it tries to send messages that are more helpful rather than less helpful. So, for
example, it looks at remembering. It looks at not just knowledge but at
decision-making ability, at task confidence. It acknowledges the role, not
just looking at the effects of, on learners, in the organization, but the
effects on people that the learners know. On their community, on the environment etc.
It's certainly not a perfect model, but it's out there. If people are interested,
they can go take a look for themselves. In fact, to introduce the model, I wrote a
34-page report on how you can use the model in your work, and I guess I'll give
you a little introduction. So there's two ways to use it. One is, you can sort of
map out where you are on the model. Say "Oh look, here's some other opportunities,
some other things we can do to measure
differently, to measure better." But also, you can use the model in your project
planning. In your learning development efforts. So you start with the end in
mind and you work your way backwards. And the model is really good for thinking
about that as well.
Will, thank you so much. We'll be back again next month with
another Q&A session with you. Thank you for joining us.

Nir Felder - Guitar Power - Duration: 13:22.(light guitar music)
(laughing)
- Nice.
Ladies and gentleman, this is Nir Felder.
I'm Dweezil Zappa and this is Guitar Power.
First, what was the reason that you picked up the guitar,
like what's the main influence
straight out of the gate?
- Man, public school music education.
- Say that one more time
because that doesn't make sense.
(laughing)
- A guitar player came into my seventh grade keyboard class
and I was like, that, that's what I wanna do.
- That's what I wanna do.
- As soon as I heard someone do it in front of me live,
plug in a guitar, turn on the distortion pedal
or whatever it was and play,
that was it for me as soon as I heard that.
- So then you made a list of I wanna 65 Stratocaster.
- Well you know what's really funny?
This is pretty much my first guitar.
This is a Mexican Strat from 1995
that I got at Sam Ash in 1996
and I've been playing it ever since
and nothing's really changed.
It's pretty beat up, especially in the back here.
I put some extra springs in, but that's about it.
This is the ax.
- Or very first guitar.
- Yeah.
- What was the first thing that you tried to learn
that you said, okay, this sounds so good to me.
It's in my head.
I can't get it out.
I got to learn how to do this.
- The first thing that someone showed me,
I remember 'cause I took lessons with this guy.
It was.
(playing "Sweet Home Alabama" by Lynyrd Skynyrd)
- I've never heard that song.
(laughing)
Once you learned it, were you playing it all day long?
- That's the only thing I knew how to play, so yeah.
(laughing)
It probably sounded more like.
(slow guitar chords)
Yeah. - Yeah.
And then what was the thing that you wanted to learn
that you figured out on your own?
- Probably like a Jimmy Page solo or like
little Jimmy Page lyrics or you know,
my first big influences were Hendrix
and Clapton and Jimmy Page and then later,
Stevie Ray Vaughan become like everything
in my musical world.
He's still an influence.
- I noticed that and you use some slurring
or raking across strings which sort of seems like
Stevie Ray Vaughan hold over.
- Totally because when I tried, I was like,
okay, let me learn how to sweet pick
and I just cannot, I still can't really do that,
like play an arpeggio cleanly.
It just feels really weird but when I started
being okay with it being sloppy.
(fast guitar music)
Then it kind of started being a thing.
I was kind of hearing it like a saxophone player
where you like slur a bunch of notes
and it would be like, the rhythm of it
would be like a quintuplet or septuplet.
To me that was like, okay,
that's how I can figure out how to do that.
- You are very much an improvisational player.
Building a vocabulary where you can move around the neck
and do that requires a certain kind of concept.
- Yeah.
I think that was something I got early on
where I learned the pentatonic scale and I was like.
(fast guitar music)
And something about that (fast guitar music)
position just, it's kind of magic on the guitar.
You can really make music just with that and it works
but when I wanted to kind of expand beyond that
and people started showing me,
my teachers started showing me these major scale shapes,
that I cannot figure out for the life of me
how to make music with.
It always sounded like a scale and.
(playing guitar scales)
No matter what I did with it, it didn't sound good to me,
to my young ears so I was trying to figure out
how do I make this work?
I know I'm supposed to be able to do something with this
but it doesn't have that magic mojo,
that one pentatonic box as.
So I started to kind of learn scales like this.
(playing guitar scales)
All across the neck from like the lowest possible note
you have on your guitar to the highest possible note.
I'm kind of just seeing the guitar
as one unbroken thing instead of
these little slices of guitar.
- Without feeling like you're part of the scale
and you can connect up a line
more readily. - Yeah, instead of being
in any box, it's not really a visual approach at all.
It's more being aware of what note I'm playing,
always knowing that that's an F sharp
and that's an F sharp and that's a D
and that's C, B, F, A.
- So now you just disappointed a bunch of people
because they're like, oh, that sounds
like work, man. - It sounds hard.
You know, I think with guitar and with anything in music,
what matters the most is the big picture.
Like you can know all the scales in the world
and still not be able to play any music.
You just have to think of the one not that you're playing
and the notes that are close to it
and you kind of voice lead a melody,
create and melody and not have to worry about,
okay, back to this box, back to that box.
- So you say voice lead a melody
and there's people out there saying,
what's he talking about?
Can you give us an example?
- I'm happy to elaborate.
When I say voicing it, it just kind of means
how one note moves to another note,
so instead of one scale or box moving to
a whole other box or shape when you change chords,
if this chord I'm playing over is B flat minor
and I play this note, which is a C
and the next chord I'm playing is A minor.
I could just do something simple like.
(playing guitar chords)
I moved up a whole step so the note didn't jump down
to something like that.
It just kind of went up very close interval.
- I thought you were gonna go for Careless Whispers,
but you know,
you surprised me. - We can jam on that later.
- Yeah, so how do you try to give people
the best shortcuts that really will be an eye opener
for people.
- Sure, I'll try to break it into two parts
and the first is just gonna relate to that
big picture thing we were just talking about.
So I just try to encourage people who are
learning about music to think about what is music?
What are the elements of music?
And definitely notes and scales are one big part of it,
but dynamics and vibe changes and articulation and.
- Phrasing.
- Yeah, things like low versus high
or fast versus slow or short and long, so.
(funky guitar music)
So I'm interested in practicing stuff like that
so I can continue to find new things to play.
- And it's not predictable.
- That's what inspires me to keep playing music,
that it's not gonna be the same every night.
- As opposed to having pattern oriented,
pre-composed memorized licks.
- Yeah, and I think whenever your brain gets involved
while you're improvising, whenever you start thinking
about something other than just being 100% in the music,
when you start thinking about oh, what's the next
note in the scale or what lick should I play?
You lose the focus, you lose the feeling of
being inside the moment.
My favorite improvisers, people like when I was
telling Jess, Cindy Rollins or Herbie Hancock,
one of the things that I really love about their playing,
these guys are an example of people
who do it all in one solo.
So they'll play high and they'll play low
and they'll play rubato and they'll play in time.
It'll be groovy one second,
it'll be loose in another second
and it doesn't sound disjunct, it sounds complete,
and I think that's awesome.
They understand music on this big picture level
and that's something I aspire to,
I chip away at, I try to learn.
- Well and part of it is also reacting
to the music in that moment
and so that's another thing that's a real challenge
to sort of describe to people.
So speaking of big picture, when you get into
the area where you're composing
and you're saying, okay, I got to make a record
and you wanna do largely improvisational soloing and stuff,
how do you structure your music?
- Well usually it starts with,
I have a hard time just sitting down
at like a blank sheet of paper and being like,
now I will summon the muses and compose my masterpiece.
I like to kind of have an idea of what I wanna write.
Not like exactly, not like this is the melody
I'm singing in my head, more like okay,
I'm picturing like a bass playing something very high,
like top range of its instrument just kind of bode
and then that slowly descends and as it does that,
the drums come in with this kind of military march
kind of feel and then the guitar comes in
with kind of a soaring melody
or maybe it's a percussive thing.
So I'm kind of like thinking about
what all the instruments are doing before I
set off to writing it. - Like an arrangement
even before there's notes?
- A vibe, is pointed, does it have a strummy feel,
does it have this kind of feel?
Like when I say feel I mean like emotional feeling.
So what is it and then when I kind of have an idea
of what I might wanna write,
I then try to do it.
It never comes out exactly like I intended,
but I get kind of close.
- So how about some other examples of things
that helped you learn the positions as you see them.
- Going back to that concept of voice leading,
if I know I have a note here and I have a note here,
instead of just having those two notes.
(playing guitar)
I kind of get to those two notes,
but maybe I dance around them a little bit, so.
(playing guitar)
I'm still landing on those notes.
If I get away from them, I go back to them,
but it doesn't have to be right away
because your ear kind of remembers longer than
you might realize.
I trust my ear a lot but I think having
some jazz background, I learned a lot of this
by studying Charlie Parker and if you studied
Bach or something, it's that same kind of thing
where like notes have some kind of gravitational pull,
you know, like.
(playing guitar)
Where they, this note, it just wants to do that.
- Well going back to the gravitational pull,
can you give an example of something just theory wise
where you know of a certain resolution
that sounds great all the time?
- Let's do something super simple like if we were
kind of jamming on like.
(upbeat guitar music)
So it's just gonna be this note going to this note.
(upbeat guitar music)
Keep playing that same thing over and over again,
G going in F sharp.
(upbeat guitar music)
And no matter how far I get away from it,
how far out I go, I can always go back to this.
(slow guitar music)
'Case you hear this note wanting to do.
It just sounds natural.
It fits with the chords you're doing.
- Harmonically, rhythmically there's diversity
in all of that.
It's not just like lick number one,
lick number one fast, lick number one slow.
- Has to be.
- Yeah.
Let's take like a really simple thing,
like things you could superimpose over,
just like a major chord.
So I'll see if we can get like a little freeze on this.
- What if we started with.
(bright guitar music)
- Well I think what you're doing is great
and it's a pleasure to talk with you about everything.
- Hey man, thank you so much.
- Thank you.
Ladies and gentleman.
- In the blast.
- Nir Felder.
I'm Dweezil Zappa, this has been Guitar Power.

Picture Perfect Pies | That's Cool! With CC (Episode 2) - Duration: 7:11.(upbeat jazz music)
- Hey, I'm CC.
I'm the food stylist at Kitchn.
When people see what I do, they usually respond,
"That's cool."
Today, we're gonna do a cool thing,
which is dressing up a store bought pie, huh.
Oh, yeah.
Sometimes, you've cooked a bunch of s--
Stuff, and the last thing you wanna do is make a pie.
So, cut yourself a break and just buy one,
and then you can decorate it with the pie cutouts.
You can either buy a pie crust from the grocery store,
or you can make a crust at home.
Pick your poison.
Roll out your pie dough so that it's all
an even thickness, about a quarter inch.
And then get some cookie cutters.
I chose leaves.
So, you've prepared your cutouts,
and you've put them in the freezer,
because pie dough bakes better when it's frozen,
when it goes in the oven frozen.
It'll hold its shape better.
We're going to pull them out,
because we're about to bake them.
Look how crisp they are!
(upbeat music)
Perfect cut leaf shapes.
This is why you only see raw pie dough shapes
on Instagram, before people have baked a pie,
because the dough is going to expand,
it's going to lose its shape a little bit,
which isn't a big deal, that's just how it works.
So, don't feel bad about yourself if you put shapes
in the oven and they get a little bit wonky.
You did your job right, that's
exactly what's supposed to happen.
Before you bake your dough cutouts,
brush them with a little bit of egg wash,
which is just an egg.
(whisking)
So, you take your little brush and your egg wash.
You don't have to add water to it.
Some people are like, "Oh, I add water."
Whatever, do whatever you wanna do, and just brush 'em.
You don't have a super long time
between putting the pieces in the oven
and them coming out, so something
I like to do is just take a little moment
and do 10 pushups, usually with a friend.
Hey, Karis?
- [Karis] Yup!
- Hey pal!
- Hey, what's up?
- Wanna do some pushups?
- Heck yeah, I do.
One, two, three, four, nine, ten.
Oh, jeez.
(upbeat music)
(smack)
(laughing)
- That was sick.
So, here's our store bought pie.
It's from, probably Morton Williams,
but I think that's basically the same
as like Kroger, or King Soopers, Stop 'n Save,
Stop and Shop, Price Chopper, Aldi,
oh, Wiggly Piggly, Publix, Wegmans, Safeway.
Isn't there one with a Farmer Jack?
There used to be Farmer Jack in the Midwest.
What else is there?
Berkeley Bowl, probably isn't at Berkeley Bowl,
you're probably gonna get some hip (beep) at Berkeley Bowl.
Target, Target Superstore, Walmart, Walmart Superstore,
you know what, at this point, they
probably have pie at Home Depot.
(crashing)
(whooshing)
So now, the cutouts are probably ready.
They are!
See how I told you they wouldn't be perfect?
And they're not, and you know what,
I still love them and still love myself.
Luster dusts are a cute and easy way
to make the cutouts look a little bit more pizzazz-y.
We have a spot in New York called Cake and Bake,
where these were purchased, but you can
definitely get them on Amazon.
So, those are good to have.
You'll need some brushes.
You don't have to get super fancy with the brushes,
like, these are just dollar store paint brushes.
These, I think are a little bit nicer,
but I'm a professional, so.
And, the pie, it's easier to decorate
the pie out of the box.
Pro tip would be to get rid of the evidence.
(horn fanfares)
Ah, homemade pie.
Whatever you want to do to the cutouts,
you should do before you put them on the pie,
because if you just want certain shapes
to have certain colors, it's gonna be a lot easier
to do when it's on the sheet tray and not on the pie.
So, we're gonna go ahead and do that now,
and you can do some more luster dusting, you can
use your sifter, doesn't really matter,
you can do whatever you want.
Something that may have happened
when you baked off your cutouts
is they got a little puffy, so they're not gonna lay flat,
which isn't a big deal, but if it's important for you
that they lay flat, then you can use a microplane
to shave off the back, so they'll lay flat.
Okay, so now, I'm gonna do a little bit of decoration.
I'm of the opinion that asymmetry
is more attractive than symmetry, so I'm gonna go for that.
I like these teeny tiny guys.
I think they're super cute.
Also, they seem to have maintained the shape best.
And sometimes, I'm just gonna dust as I go
because I do want I want.
It's my pie.
There you go, I mean, you could put on
as little or as many as you want.
(upbeat music)
Store bought pie, styled pie, store bought pie, styled pie.
Okay, quick recap.
At some point in your near future,
when you have a block of time,
you're gonna get a pie crust from the store,
you're gonna bring it home, you're gonna
cut out some shapes, you're gonna shove it in the freezer.
Forget about it.
The holidays rolled around, some unexpected guests
come around, maybe you invite your neighbor
over for a cup of tea, you're having dessert.
Take the cutouts out of the freezer,
pop 'em in the oven, decorate them,
put them on top of the pie, instantly transformed.
Magically transformed.
Thanks for watching That's Cool.
Don't forget to subscribe, and if you
have suggestions or things you wanna see styled
in the future, then mention them in the comments, below.
Bye!

Top 10 FICTIONAL CHARACTERS That are Obsessed With Certain Foods! - Duration: 13:11.Everyone has their favorite foods – even fictional characters.
Fictional characters can enjoy food just as much as we do.
Whether it's established as a running joke or simply a character trait or, in some cases,
their whole reason for being, like the Cookie Monster and the Hamburglar.
Their whole character revolves around the foods that they enjoy.
So let's look at the top 10 fictional characters who are obsessed with a certain food.
Popeye and spinach
The Popeye character first appeared in the daily King Features comic strip and then went
on to be the perfect pitchman to sell spinach.
When spinach had been discovered, it was thought to be the healthiest thing in the world.
Back then, it was the equivalent of quinoa or a superfood.
So, all of the health organizations wanted people to start eating this stuff.
They created a character whose defining hallmark was his love of spinach, who gets huge muscles
and the ability to do anything whenever he eats a can of the green stuff.
So, Popeye was born and he became an iconic cultural staple.
And then they found out that spinach actually wasn't as healthy as they thought.
No one's life was going to be saved by spinach.
They had no idea.
It is still healthy.
It's green and it's natural and it's chock full of good vitamins and minerals.
But it's not as healthy as they had originally thought it was going to be.
By this point, Popeye had become iconic and his love of spinach had also become iconic,
so it was too late to retire the character.
Oh, well.
He's still a barrel of laughs.
We won't judge if you never finish your veggies, so take a second to hit that subscribe
button and notification bell so you'll always know when we put up a new video.
And now on to the next character!
Winnie the Pooh and honey
If you can't find Winnie the Pooh, then look no further than the nearest honeypot,
because he will undoubtedly have either his hand or his head stuck in it, trying to get
as much honey into his mouth as possible.
This cuddly, friendly, unthreatening, little bear is obsessed with the sweet, treacly goodness
of gloopy, delicious honey and will often treat himself to an entire beehive full of
the stuff.
Pooh's obsession with honey has links to bears' real-life affinity for honey.
However, according to science, when bears go digging around in beehives, they don't
just stop at the honey like our friend Pooh.
They'll eat all the bees and the larvae inside it, too.
Pooh has been voiced by Jim Cummings in all of the animated TV shows and movies for Disney.
Most recently, the character was featured in the live action movie Christopher Robin,
a movie that grossed almost $200 million worldwide on a budget of $75 million.
It told the story of a grown-up Christopher Robin who is confronted by his old creations.
Cummings voiced Pooh in this movie, too, because with his warm, soothing, friendly voice it's
hard to imagine anyone else as Winnie the Pooh.
Augustus Gloop and chocolate
This kid loves chocolate so much that he nearly killed himself trying to eat it.
He dived into a lake of melted chocolate, just so that he could drink the tasty, sugary
treat all around him.
Let's be a hundred percent honest with ourselves, though.
In the book and in the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie, Augustus Gloop is made out
to be some kind of out of control monster who sees a lake of melted chocolate and can't
help himself from wanting to get in there but come on, that's exactly what we would
all do.
Charlie Bucket stands there with his judging eyes, thinking that Augustus Gloop is a fat
slob who couldn't wait five minutes before tucking into all the chocolate on display
in Willy Wonka's factory, but how dare he?
If any of us got anywhere near a massive body of melted chocolate that ran through a controlled
industrial area, we would be right down there at the riverbank on our hands and knees, right
alongside Augustus Gloop, slurping that chocolate out of the lake.
It's a shame that he got sucked into that tube and got stuck, which is one of the scariest
scenarios imaginable to find yourself in because it will put a lot of people off of actually
doing that if they ever find themselves in a situation with a lake of melted chocolate.
Unless maybe that was the point.
Cookie Monster and cookies
This inhabitant of Sesame Street loves cookies so much that the word "cookie" is in his
name.
He's Cookie Monster!
Everyone loves this guy.
He is famed for his googly eyes and his shaggy blue fur, which combine to make him look both
cuddly and psychotic all at once.
Cookie Monster can be heard saying one of four catchphrases, and they all involve cookies.
He will either say, "Me want cookie," "Me eat cookie," or the simpler alternative,
"COOKIE!"
The only one of his four beloved catchphrases that doesn't contain the word "cookie"
is the one that goes, more or less, "Om nom nom nom nom!" which is what he says
when he is eating cookies and therefore his mouth is too full for him to speak full words.
He is arguably the third most memorable and iconic character from the long-running educational
PBS kids' show, after Elmo and Big Bird.
It could even be argued that he is better known than Bert and Ernie.
Bert and Ernie are known as a duo, not separately.
Cookie Monster is known as a solo character and it's hard to become iconic as just one
guy without a sidekick to bounce off of.
Scooby-Doo and Scooby Snacks
We all know what was going on with Shaggy and Scooby now.
When we were kids, we had no idea.
We thought they were just two guys who liked a certain food brand called Scooby Snacks
and liked to eat gigantic club sandwiches the size of a house and were too lazy to get
involved in the solving of any cases.
Scooby and Shaggy both maintain that being in a constant state of fear, thanks to their
work with Mystery, Inc. taking them into haunted houses and abandoned fairgrounds full of ghosts
and ghouls and mummies and zombies, which leaves them in a constant state of hunger.
But Fred, Daphne, and Velma never wanted any Scooby Snacks.
They would eat at meal times, but they would also stop eating sometimes and get the job
done.
What we now realize as adults is that Scooby and Shaggy must have been high all the time
and they wanted to eat boxes and boxes of Scooby Snacks to quench their bad cases of
the munchies.
That accounts for why they were so lazy, why they would often see wild things that the
others didn't, and why they would freak out more than any of the others at the slightest
hint of danger.
They were probably just a pair of lovable stoners.
Ron Swanson and any kind of meat
Ron Swanson from Parks and Rec loves bacon and eggs so much that he doesn't just want
you to bring him a lot of bacon and eggs – he wants you to bring him all the bacon and eggs
you have.
When he goes to a restaurant with some of his friends or co-workers, he doesn't just
order one big steak and be happy with it – he orders several steaks and only stops eating
steak if everyone wants to pay the check and leave.
Where does he put it all?
The guy never stops!
But he does go hunting a lot and he likes to toss the pigskin around in the parking
lot, so the calories do get burned off.
When Chris Traeger came along with his vegan diet and his organic whole foods, Ron was
flabbergasted.
He couldn't understand how a man could go through his life without the succulent beauty
of meat.
Homer Simpson and donuts
"Mmm, donuts."
That is the lesser known catchphrase of Homer Simpson.
Of course, the best-known one and the one that was entered into the dictionary when
the show became popular enough to be a cultural institution, is "D'oh!"
On the poster for the movie adaptation of the show that came out in 2007, the "O"
in "Movie" was a donut with Homer's face underneath it, and in some of the posters,
the "O" was just a greasy circle where a donut once was, because Homer had removed
the donut from the title of his own movie and started eating it.
When his head became a donut, he couldn't help eating that, even though it was the one
that was keeping him alive.
He really can't help himself!
In one of the "Treehouse of Horror" Halloween special episodes, Homer is sent to Hell where
the Devil punishes him by making him eat thousands of donuts.
The idea behind the punishment is the same as John Doe's – punish his sin by making
him commit it so many times that he never wants to do it again.
But it kind of backfires, because Homer never learns his lesson.
He never grows tired of eating donuts or becomes full.
The Devil runs out of donuts and Homer is no less full than when he began – he actually
wants to be provided with more!
Bugs Bunny and carrots
This character, who has his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, is synonymous with
carrots.
He hardly ever appears on screen without a carrot in his mouth.
The crunching of a carrot often complements his snarky comments.
He'll make some kind of smart-alecky remark to Elmer Fudd and the sarcasm and the condescension
will really come through because he's munching on a carrot.
It's the same effect as a cigar or a cigarette – he's got the thing in his mouth, ready
to punctuate his statements in a powerful and dramatic way, but the carrot is more wholesome
and family friendly and fun.
It's also a more appropriate thing for a rabbit to have in his mouth.
Picture it now: Elmer Fudd is trying to sneak through the woods and be "vewy, vewy quiet,"
as he hunts "wabbits" during "wabbit season," and then Bugs Bunny appears behind
him, takes a bite from his carrot, and totally nonchalantly says, "Eh, what's up, doc?",
without a care in the world.
That is the attitude and the personality of this iconic cartoon character summed up in
one memorable image, and it requires the carrot to really make it work and hammer it home.
The voice performance of Mel Blanc is a huge part of the reasoning behind why this character
became a pop culture icon, but his love of carrots is one of the most significant parts
of his iconography.
Hannibal Lecter and human flesh
It's a good thing that this character's name is Hannibal because the only word in
the English language that rhymes with it and vice versa is "cannibal," and conveniently
enough, he is a cannibal.
He eats people.
That's his thing.
He's not "Stan the Man" or "Rob the Slob" or something cool that rhymes like
that.
He is "Hannibal the Cannibal."
That's how he became known in the papers and among the public following his capture.
Dr. Lecter from Silence of the Lambs was once a brilliant psychiatrist who happened to enjoy
eating people in his downtime before he was found out and arrested.
After that, he became a good friend of an FBI agent named Clarice Starling and helped
her to find the new serial killer that she was trying to track down as her first big
case, "Buffalo Bill."
Don't try to take down any information from Hannibal for the census, because he will kill
you and then eat your liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti.
Don't try to keep him in prison either, because he will break out in a very gruesome
way and you will almost certainly regret trying to keep him behind bars when you've got
no face left.
Deadpool and chimichangas
The Merc with a Mouth is not as obsessed with chimichangas in his movie form as he is in
the comic books.
The movies, starring Ryan Reynolds, are more focused on telling a love story and delivering
epic action sequences and making you laugh with hilarious fourth wall breaks.
But in the comic books, Deadpool is a huge fan of chimichangas.
It's such a huge part of the character's genetic makeup that they simply couldn't
adapt him for the screen without incorporating his love of chimichangas in one way or another.
You can't keep the guy away from them.
And yet, he once claimed to hate them.
That would be so Deadpool.
He makes an entire community of comic book readers think that chimichangas are his favorite
food and they remember it, because that's what comic book readers do when they find
out a new fact about one of their favorite characters, and then chimichangas become famous
for their association to Deadpool.
And then it turns out he doesn't even like them and he made the whole thing up.
That's exactly the kind of thing that the Merc with a Mouth would do.
