Hello, this is Ari :).
It's been a while since I came back with a rainbow-themed tutorial!
I will be making Jell-O Roll Ups (Jell-O Pinwheels) which is one of really popular snacks for kids overseas!
The ingredients and steps are really simple, but they are really fun to make with colorful visuals.
Let's start making them then!
Let's start today's fun and creative cooking! Zoom!
Today's ingredients!
I tried to get Jell-O mixes in rainbow colors!! In total 6 colors - Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple~
Jell-O has a rich flavor and chewy. So I also prefer using Jell-O when I make jellies.
(Explaining about the purchase method as it's not officially sold in Korea)
For the viewers in overseas, please use Jell-O mix~
125g of water at room temperature to mix with Jell-O mix.
50g of marshmallows! It's also okay to use marshmallows with colors.
And you need to prepare a container or pan to set the jelly. It's good if you can get 20cm in length and width.
The pan needs to be coated so prepare a little bit of cooking oil too.
A whisk, spatula, mixing bowl
Then let's start!
Step 1 - Coating the pan First, coat the pan with cooking oil. Jelly may rip and hard to remove from glass pan.
Coat both pan and plastic wrap with cooking oil.
Step 2 - Making Jell-O roll ups Red Jell-O mix! I will try to make with the strawberry flavor first.
Pour water~ Stir with the whisk.
Now I will heat up in the microwave for 1 minute to completely dissolve the Jell-O mix.
Stir well so the mix completely dissolves.
Step 3 - Jelly + marshmallows Now add the marshmallows~
Wet the marshmallows in the jelly mixture and microwave for 40 seconds.
When you warm it up, the marshmallow will be little puffed up. Whisk until the marshmallows are dissolved as well.
When you see this, it just looks like a murky jelly mixture, right?
But when you pour into the pan and wait a while, jelly mixture will go down and the marshmallow layer will rise to the top.
Isn't this amazing? Is it not? lol
Step 4 - Chilling in the fridge Chill in the fridge for about 2 hours~
Step 6 - Rolling up the jelly It's been firmed up well. The bottom jelly layer is thick when firmed, but marshmallow will be little sticky.
When you roll them while removing the plastic wrap, it's done~!
It doesn't matter if you cut them right away, but if you would like to get the shape set, cover in a plastic wrap and set in the fridge for 1 hour.
Next is orange! I will make orange flavor. You need to coat the pan~ it's same as the steps for making strawberry one.
If you're going to use Korean jelly mix products, you may have to add more gelatin.
Honestly, I don't recommend Korean jelly mixes for making these jelly roll-ups.
As you have to roll up in the end, the jelly should be quite firm and thick.
But if it's hard to get the Jell-O mixes, then… I think melting Haribo Jelly is one other way. Hehe
Shall we watch again~
Add the mix and water in the mixing bowl. Stir well and microwave for 1 minute!
Mix until it's dissolved and put the marshmallows in!
Microwave again for 40 seconds~
Stir until marshmallow completely dissolve and pour in the pan. Put in the fridge for 2 hours! It's super easy, right?
I will roll each of them. Carefully remove the plastic wrap and roll as you are rolling Kimbap (Korean seaweed roll).
Be careful as you roll it up to tight, the sides may break.
Step 6 - Rainbow Jell-O Roll Ups! So the Jell-O Roll Ups are completed. I guess they are more of rolls than jellies, huh?
The jelly may be squashed if you cut with knife. Prepare a clean string and cover the jelly with it to make slices.
You cover the string like this and intersect each end to cut slices.
Tada~ aren't the shapes so pretty!
This is really fun to cut as well. It feels like cutting thick Muk (Korean buckwheat jelly).
Now I will try to cut all of them in order.
Tada~~ Rainbow Jell-O Roll Ups are completed!
It's really simple to make but aren't these fun even just to see?
As I made them in rainbow colors I remember going to Pinwheel Park in Paju. It's really pretty there. I feel like I'm a child again. Hehe
Moms make them when kids are at school and take them out from the fridge when the kids return home. Then kids will scream, "Yayyyyy~!". Hehe
So cute~ hehe
I will try eating the purple one~ Grape flavor!
Chewy chewy~
Gom PD: Soft and plumpy~
Try listening to the sound~♥
Chewy~ tangy~!
Chewy and tangy jelly with soft marshmallow layer.
The layers are attached so the textures don't go separately in mouth.
As it tastes fruity and has soft mouthfeel, no wonder kids love it.
I love how you can easily make these cute jelly roll ups.
