A lot of people when they start their marketing agency they have trouble
landing clients and that's why in today's video I wanted to talk to all of
you new guys or even guys who've been in it for a little bit and still haven't
gotten their client how you guys need to go about getting your first clients so

a marketing agency, starting a personal brand, really just building a business

of this video because another big issue that marketing agency owners have really
just online business owners have is budgeting and figuring out how to budget
for their business so if you stay tuned to the end I'll teach you how you can
get access to our budgeting templates so guys one of the biggest questions that I
get from a lot of you is how do I get my first client if I don't have any
experience if I've never run marketing campaigns before how do I actually go
out to a business in my local area and get them to pay me thousands of dollars
well that's really really hard to do and so what you actually have to understand
is the importance of testimonials and people actually referring you based on
past work that you've done so how do we go about doing that if I've never done
it before it's actually a lot easier than you think most people will do one
of a few things they'll either go find a friend or family member and run their
campaigns for them that's a method I suggest why because it's a friend or
family member and you don't necessarily have to make money off of them and
they're going to give you a decent review as long as you do a decent job
for them the second thing that you can try to do is go out to a business owner
and try to work for them for free I personally don't recommend that because
I feel like it's a waste of time and this third option I'm gonna tell you
it's basically the same thing except you're gonna get paid to do it right you
would rather make some money than no money okay and a lot of you that's why
you're doing this to have that financial freedom right so why work for free let's
so let's go into how I suggest you start off in the strategy
I suggests that a lot of you take when you start off so I hadn't taken my blue
blockers off really quick just so you guys could see my seriousness because
this is how important this is if you guys are brand new to the industry if
you don't have any testimonials or past experience that you can use to you know
boost your trustworthiness with your potential clients this is what you need
to do I recommend again you can go out and find a friend or family member or
even work for a business owner for free to get them to write you a testimonial
my preferred method and this is what I teach my students this is what I tell
everyone who's getting started in the industry is you need to go to the
following websites Upwork, Fiverr, freelancer and free up that's free with
three e's up.com and we'll leave all the links below
because we actually give like little benefits if you work with like free up I
don't have a deal with up work but if you go with three up you get benefits
but anyways guys what I wanted to say is you need to get on one of those
platforms and you need to start performing jobs there it can be anything
it could be you building a Wix website for someone even though I don't like
Wix, you could still do that for a business and you can still build a good
website on Wix. You could also do social media management and starting
there you can also do email content you could write social media posts you could
do blog writing there's so much that you could do video editing there's so much
that you could do if you know graphic design I'm sorry I keep stopping but I
mean there's literally endless amounts of jobs that you can go there and get
someone to pay you to do that job and then you actually get to get that person
to write to a testimonial or a review when you're done and you can send those
to customers and upload them to your agency site this is the best method that
I can give you guys to take if you're brand new to the industry outside of
that I don't recommend making up you know reviews or making up case studies
that aren't yours and using them as yours like that people don't trust that
but it's just as easy to go out there work at a lower rate for a little bit to
build up some testimonials and reviews and then use that on your agency site to
sell thousand-dollar packages later right or five thousand ten thousand
dollar packages now let me give you some quick tips for those of you wanting to
get on one of those freelancer platforms you're gonna need to know some of these
strategies so first and foremost don't go on there as a new freelancer because
people like myself who are hiring we can tell if you're new or not because you
won't have a portfolio you won't have all the stuff in the reviews
right if you're going on brand new go on and do some you know some research on
the competition in the market so basically create a buyer account
somebody who would be hiring someone go on there and look at what people are
charging for specific services and set your right to be super competitive at
first you're gonna have to undercut the price on a lot of those higher paying
people and take that cut it's okay it's not gonna like it's not gonna kill you
okay make a little less now to make a lot more later next is the portfolio and
the actual description that you put your the the bio of yourself I'll put it to
you like this when I go on to hire someone so let's say copywriting right
if I go into that person's bio and it's four sentence four sentences long
telling me to hire them they're a copywriter I should expect that their
bio should be in full-length and be you know very very detailed if you'd be very
well-written so that way I know what the writing style is like not just their
portfolio but that they actually take time to sell themselves to me and that
they do it well because if they can't sell themself to me how are they gonna
sell other products and services to other people right so think about that
when you go in to build your profile put on a really good picture put on a clean
profile update it put as much information it should be as big or you
know really as big as a resume and make sure that it is complete and that
everybody understands exactly what services you're able to provide and one
of the next things that we're gonna talk about here in just a second is all about
networking so if you guys are wanting to see a little bit or another training
that I put together on networking and some tips that you're gonna want to be
aware of when you go to meet other people check out this video on the top
right hand corner I promise you're gonna want to watch that video now like I just
mentioned the next strategy that I recommend is networking and there's
actually a really easy way to do this process in the very beginning especially
if you haven't already done this before it's gonna help you a ton I promise you
and you'll probably find a customer just from doing this first thing too many
people like to go straight into the cold calling into the cold emailing when they
don't even take advantage of the network they have in front of them right now so
here's the strategy essentially what you want to do is a
couple of things you're gonna want to number one start going to events and
what these events are you can go to somewhere like Eventbrite or meetup.com
you can go to your Chamber of Commerce there's BNI events B the letter B the
letter N and the letter I okay all of those events are going on all
around your local area if you're in the US I'm sure that's how it that those are
happening if you're in other countries I'm not 100% sure but I'm guaranteeing
you there are other networking or business initiatives out there that are
meant to help business owners find new leads new customers and really just
network with other like-minded people so the first thing I recommend is going and
looking for marketing related events or entrepreneurship related events
business-related events networking related events where you can go and meet
other business owners and put yourself in front of them and start trying to
find the ones where you can actually go on stage in front of a group of people
put together a presentation that's killer
and go out there and start lighting people that way those are one of the
best ways to get clients because of the fact that you can actually exemplify
your marketing expertise to a group of people the second thing and it's the
strategy that's most underutilized is your immediate network that you already
have and you're their extended network so what is that how does that work what
I essentially like to do or recommend is this make a list of your top 100 people
100 people that you know everybody knows at least a hundred people 100 people
that you know that you can at least reach out to and mention that you run a
marketing agency and that you're looking for new clients and that you're willing
to work out deals with everybody who joins now in the early days of your
agency okay and now what you're gonna make a list
you're gonna go through that entire list and prioritize it mom, dad, brother, sister,
aun,t uncle, grandmother, grandfather, friend, friend, you guys get what I'm
saying find the top 100 people that you can possibly reach out to and then what
you want to do is take that top 100 that's your immediate network the right
that is the network that you know directly and then they have what I call
the extended network so this could be your dad's friends, your mom's friends.
your cousin's friends, right or people that they know and have you know a
relationship with that they can go to and suggest you as a marketer for them
people hear things all the time oh yeah I need this I need that they're looking
for this or that right that is one of the best ways you put your fillers out
you tell everybody out there that you're doing it and then they if they are a
good friend of yours or someone close to you will usually help you get your name
out as well and share your and make sure that everybody knows that
you're marketing now this is super important but too many people don't do
this like that was the very first thing I did was went out and that's how I
landed three customers in less than two months was because I went out and I
found my list of 100 people I started contacting all of them I asked them
directly if they knew anybody that might be a business owner or might be trying
to you know up their marketing game or increase sales blah blah blah that they
could just make an introduction with right that they could say "Hey this is
Jordan, he does marketing. If you're ever interested he'd love to help you out." And
that's it that is the the easiest most basic way to do it yet too many people
skip that option altogether and go straight to cold calling and cold
emailing so I have a quick question how did you find your first social media
