I remember I used to be angry with the Church - with the sinful, miserable, weak side of the Church.
And particularly the miserable part related to clergy.
There was a period in my life when I was really angry with this, I wrote articles about it, talked about it in retreats.
And I had the feeling that I was brave and not afraid to condemn it.
I was not afraid to see and stress the sins of my own community.
Reading the Gospel from today, it turns out there was nothing new in my approach.
Jesus, like no one before him and no one after him, unequivocally pointed out the poverty, spiritual misery of religious leaders.
But at the same time, He was able to do so in such a way that His criticism was to serve the conversion.
He did not want to break the bonds with these who were religious leaders.
Jesus´ criticism did not serve to discredit them and to tell them how hopeless and not needed they were.
On the contrary, Jesus says these words - People, listen to what the religious leaders say, do not go away from the Church,
Church with leaders full of shortcomings.
Do not deprive yourselves of what God wants you to give you through these sinful, weak people.
And this is a strong message from Jesus. You have the right to be critical of clergy.
Keep this right but do not deprive yourself of what God gives you through these people. Do not deprive yourself of the Eucharist, coming through their sinful hands.
Do not deprive yourself of the learnings they transmit in the name of Christ if they do it on His behalf.
Do not deprive yourself of the mercy they convey through the sacrament of penance.
