Hi I could train him right here. So today I want to talk about the topic of
Feeling too fat to make videos right now
So maybe you are feeling this or maybe you've had this experience. I
Totally hear you I had this experience myself
so it was about a couple years ago and
I was I had had my fourth child and I put on a little too much weight
So I think I might have gone up to about a hundred and eighty pounds
and I waited for about
five months six months
maybe seven months to lose some of that weight and it wasn't really coming off so
when I came down to my studio to finally start filming videos again, I
Got behind the camera
And I think we did a photo shoot and then we also tried doing videos and I realized I could not just stand in front
Of the camera and look like I had looked before
so when I watched the replay back, I was like just horrified I
Remember looking at myself and thinking wow. I look like I'm still seven months pregnant and
That's not a big deal and many people make videos that way
But this is really about how you feel when you look at yourself. So if you were in a situation that was similar
you know and you looked at yourself and you thought oh
Wow, that's just not how I want to present myself
Then you might have been feeling the same way
Maybe even now maybe you watch videos and you're just like, oh, I just I can't do this. I just don't feel right
I just I feel too fat
I mean that's really what it comes down to so it's funny because I think actually in this picture here on my roadmap
I was five months pregnant and you couldn't tell
So I think you know as a mom having a lot of kids
we kind of pride ourselves and
staying a little bit smaller and trying to keep that weight off and when you get to the point where
You can't keep the wait off
You kind of start to think like what's wrong with me and why can't get this off
But it's just it's a problem that we have to deal with and we have to move past
so
my way of moving past this really came down to a little bit of waiting and
patience to lose a little bit more weight
but also
Learning how to dress so that I could hide some of that weight
So that when I watched the videos
I didn't see what I didn't want to see so I ended up having extra on my arms and
That was one of my places that I was always like
Kind of, you know, you know you've ever heard, you know, if you like make fun of somebody it comes back to you
Well, I remember always thinking oh my arms are so thin like up around my bicep not because I had no muscle
I mean, I really don't have muscle. I'm not you know, I don't work out like that, but
They were always like, you know small like 11 inches or something
And so when I had that extra weight and I don't know what size they were
I think I stopped measuring but I could see it I could see like, you know
like cellulite on my arms and I was just like oh
This is just not this is not me. I don't feel comfortable on video showing that
so I had to actually go through and and
Create a wardrobe
That was now for the new me
so this might be what you need to do -
there's of course more complex ways of trying to address it like go into the gym and eat and healthy and
Trying to lose the weight
But that's not going to give you an immediate fix if you know that you need to get on video right away
for your business and
You have to do it in the next week or so. You're not going to lose that weight in a week
That's like a long-term thing of six months to a year or longer. So
Changing your diet and stuff. So that's not what this video is about
It's really about kind of, you know covering it up
Masking it so that you can move forward
So what I'm going to share with you today are just some tips that I have found
That work for clothing and camera angles
And they sort of hide those parts that make me feel uncomfortable when I'm watching myself on video
so
Anyway, let's dive into these tips
And before I start just so you know, I was a fashion designer for years and years
And so that's why fashion styling is just kind of that comfortable step for me to take in
Addressing a problem so it's not really because this is materialistic, you know, we can address
This with mindset as well
but I think that even with mindset you're gonna go on the camera and still see what you're gonna see and you're still gonna say
I just looked you fat. So that's why I think wardrobe can really help with us
All right. So my first tip is number one do not wear clothing. That is too tight or
uncomfortable, so
I've lost some more weight. So I am wearing some things that are tight. This is a little tight and
Honestly, I still have a belly I'll show it I'll show you I'll turn sideways and you can see since we're talking about
Partly camera angles and stuff. I'm just going to mention it right now
I have I'm straight on and so straight on you can kind of see that I have a waist and
the stripes are kind of taking away from there kind of giving some interest but
if I turn
sideways and anytime I turn sideways and my video is now and I walk off I
Can see my belly and so I don't do that
I actually just always do straight standing forward now, so it might vary depending on your
size
But then also another trick is having my hair come down
So we'll talk about this in a minute, and I'll try to remember so let me turn sideways
So if I turn sideways you can see I still have a tummy. It's not huge tummy
My baby's almost two years old. It should be smaller by now, but I just don't really
Don't like that. So I don't like to side stand sideways. I like to just stand straight on so that you don't really see that
but there's also
things
like
Having tables in front of you. So another thing is I don't like to stand back real far
See if I stand back now you're seeing everything if I was wearing leggings, I'd rather wear a skirt that kind of covers
So I don't like showing all this but you know
I'm I'm trying to make a point here. So I would put a table in front of me
I find that this now now you're seeing here and
When I had even more extra weight and I looked like I was still seven months pregnant
Then what I did was I sat on a stool so it's more here. So it's cutting me about at my bellybutton
But you might find that even going
Further like zooming in more like up here
Could be better. So if you've got a lot of extra weight down here and on your arms
your arms are still something that has to be dealt with but
You might try just up here
so everything gets cropped like okay so I can crop it right now and you if you have nice boobs and you know
You can show those and your face and then they don't see the rest of your body
the next thing is
don't
Try try to wear like loose flowing styles
So like a sheer drape over a dark top
so I started doing that a lot like just beautiful draping clothing works really well and
Usually darker so not like a light pink top but maybe something a darker because then it'll make you look smaller in that area
So number three would be to find
Some tops with some sort of mid sleeve so you can see this sleeve is coming to here
or
Where a jacket so I wear a lot of jackets now little cropped jackets
They go to the mid of mid of my arm. They might come down to here
So above the elbow or to your mid arm that works really well, and maybe they curve
You can do longer jackets, too. So something to cover your arms. So if you have a problem with your arms
For me now, it's mostly just my tummy
But I still like wearing long-sleeved things. I do wear tank tops once in a while
Because they're just cute and if I put a jacket on it kind of takes away from it
so now that my hair is grown again, I actually
wear it
So it's down right here and it comes into that little crease where your arm is
and so when you do that
It kind of takes away from the size of your arm so I can literally wear something that is sleeveless
But you're not seeing my whole entire arm. You're just seeing part of it
So number four is to draw attention up and away from the problem areas
So this is not a perfect example
Right now I'm kind of drawing attention down right to you my belly
But in a way, sometimes it works. It depends on your size
Since I don't have a lot of extra it's just like that extra 20 pounds right there
When this comes down it kind of you know, it just it feels okay to me like I don't watch it and think
Anything this is about how you feel
So, you know you have to watch it back so you can always put on an outfit turn on the camera and watch and then
Decide so maybe on this I would want to bring this up higher
with this top
So if I brought it up there even higher
So the whole thing and that's what you do is you kind of bring up your jewelry. So maybe you have earrings
Maybe have a choker. Maybe you have a necklace and it's all above your bust
So you're drawing the focus to your face and around your bust in your face
I'm gonna put it back down cuz I just love long flowy things being a Pisces
So, you know you have to just find what works for you
so now number five is
Like I've already talked about filming above
your bust with a table or the dusk in front of you, so
Now this is above my bust but I did mention it already
So this is just in front of my belly or kind of over on my hips. So
Where is your problem area, you know if you if you're bigger on bottom and you want to cover that up
Maybe you can stand here and you're just fine having a desk at your hip level
Because that's gonna cover your hips, but if you don't want to stand and you want to sit then of course
It's gonna be a little bit lower. So this always to me feels like it's kind of intruding on me
I don't like to actually sit in a chair. So I sit on a stool so I'm a little bit higher
It just makes me feel a little more active, you know
You can also just film the videos
Where you don't have a desk or anything and you just crop them or there see an upper part of you?
Maybe you are sitting at a desk, but then you can still crop
All right. Now number six is choose clothing
that is the right color for your
Skin and hair color if you choose stuff that works with your skin then again
It's going to look more natural and it's going to kind of take away from some of that extra weight
So it's not going to be like a double whammy where?
Everything your color is wrong, and the style is wrong
You know when you have both of those and you've got the extra weight
Nothing is really blending. Nothing is looking good. So you want to find things that look good?
So you want to find tops that fit and fill drapey?
But find the right color too because now that's gonna be one more thing in your favor
It's going to blend nicely with you and then things aren't going to look so out of place
And then number seven is always wear clothing that makes you look and feel your best
So you should
start looking for
Styles that look good on you. So whether you had and this might have to change, you know
like if you were thinner at some point which we all were probably
Then you were wearing something a little bit different
Maybe you could get away with wearing a lot of tank tops
But now maybe you don't want to show your arms so much. And so you have to find different styles of tops, maybe
Raglan sleeves, this would be a Raglan where it just kind of is more drapey
So maybe you still have something that is fitted underneath and it's a tank top
But you're just throwing a little shawl or something on it can still be sheer
But you have to play around with clothing
Try it on and decide
Does this look good and doesn't make me feel good?
so every single thing that I buy I try on I don't buy it unless I try it on I
Don't guess that it's going to look good on me. I
Actually put it on and I always ask myself that question
Does this look good on me?
or
Actually more importantly do I feel good in this?
So I try it on I look in the mirror and I just say that you know
I kind of look and I'm like does it look does it look right? Does it look natural?
Do I feel good in it?
or do I feel kind of frumpy or do I feel fat or do I feel like I'm pretending
So it always has to be the does it feel right. Does it feel good?
so you can usually just fall back on that but again and you might want to try it on and
Turn on the video camera and see what it does because the camera also adds weight and that could be a problem
Maybe it looks great when you were looking at it in the mirror
And then you get in front of the camera and you're just like oh wait
Why are my arms looking so big?
So you never know and it's just kind of a trial and error thing
All right. So basically
those are my seven tips for
Dressing so that you can kind of look a little bit thinner feel better about yourself on camera
Hide some of those areas that you don't want to show so much hide those areas that make you feel uncomfortable
Because it's really about how you feel if you feel uncomfortable
If you feel like you're too fat to make videos, then you have to somehow
fix that
even if you feel too fat
but then you watch the video and you're able to cover it up if you can then watch the video and be like
Yeah, that works that I'll let that go all
that passes, you know, cuz I might feel too fat but at least I don't look as fat as I feel and
I know it's it's I've had that same problem so
Even today I woke up this morning. My tummy was so big
Sometimes my pants are cutting into me. I
lit all the time and
Sometimes I still don't quite choose the right outfit
I'm like trying to put together 24 different outfits or tops for something and
One or two of them gets thrown in and it's not quite right, but I have to wear it anyway
And then I watched that video back and I think oh man, why did I choose that top?
But honestly, I let it go now because I produce enough videos that I'm like, oh well, okay some days
I'm gonna look off some days. I'm not gonna be I can't always make myself look thinner than I am. Sometimes I
End up looking a little bit bigger than I am sometimes
I just look the size that I am so hopefully these tips can help you if
You have ever felt like you were too fat to make videos. I would love to hear from you. What was it that you did?
to
You know fix that problem did you?
Did you choose clothing that made you feel better?
Or did you actually go to the gym and lose the weight or did you completely?
Procrastinate on making your videos and just say and I'm just not going to do videos
I just I don't feel comfortable on video because of my weight and I'm just not going to do it
So, how did you get past it? I'd love to hear from you
