May I please introduce to you, Christine Jorgensen, Yorgensen??

She's American, but there's a Jorgsen/Yorgsen thing going on.

And I'm not sure, and I probably butchered it already.

Back to wonderful people Christine Jorgensen, who was the first person to become widely known in the US

For having sex reassignment surgery.

Born in May 1929, in the Bronx, New York.

Shortly after graduating high school she was drafted into the Army for World War 2.

While she was visiting family in Denmark, she came across Dr. Christine Hamburger.

Through this doctor, she underwent hormone therapy and a series of surgeries, to become Christine.

Naming herself after the lovely Dr. Hamburger.

The New York Post ran a front-page story on Christine in 1950. The headline being,

'Ex- GI becomes Blonde Beauty'

Literally she got off the plane looking like Marilyn Monroe. This woman was a stunner.

She got off the plane wrapped in fur. She went full on, 'Hello Gorgeous'.

Because of the way she looked, she became an instant celebrity.

Giving her a platform, which she used to advocate for transgender rights.

She obviously had to overcome a lot of prejudice, and sometimes just downright evil, and very rude media.

During the 70s and the 80s. She toured different universities.

To speak about her experiences, She was known for her directness and wit.

As a transgender spokeswoman, and public figure. Christine influenced, and helped others,

to change the names on their birth certificates, and in their lives.

Her life, and her case. Were significant on leading the debate in gender being seen as permanent.

Christine's life questioned this stability. Doctors were forced to redefine with terms such as,

'Physical sex' and 'Psychological sex'

All of this happened because of Christine's popularity and the media coverage of her.

The fact that she brought transgender into everybody's homes.

She went from being a GI, to this amazing blonde bombshell.

Exactly what America likes, the 2 massive stereotypes, slammed them together and redefined everything.

I knew nothing about Christine when I started reading up on her.

She's freaking amazing, she fought and she fought, and she fought, and she didn't shut up.

I love her for that!

The fact that she went to universities, and talked to students.

It's so important to talk to the next generation down, and to help people understand.

I'm slightly in love with Christine just, just a smidge. I'm so glad that I have learnt about her.
