hello this is great Michael and today we are learning how to change strings on
acoustic guitar this is a lesson for complete beginners who have no
confidence and experience in changing strings on guitar changing strings on
the guitar is something I don't look forward to but it has to happen so I do
it whenever it's necessary I like it a lot so I attempt to change you once a
month I wish to do it Morton because of the morphed and you change the better yo
guitar sounds so so it's up to you obviously I mean the good thing is that
if you if you change strings often then you gain more experience in changing
strings and probably you develop better process so why not to practice changing
strings often so that's it so unknown the change strings of guitar you know on
the on the floor you know just just put the guitar on the flow and you know just
just just try it that way and you know it's kind of uncomfortable so today I'm
trying to imitate their the kind of environment of their professionals where
they have work benches and they put the get down the table and and they work
with with all those tools that I have available so what I'm going to do I'm
going to professors show you what what tools so we need to make the process
easier I bought this guitar neck guitar neck
support and any what you do with it you just kind of put it under the neck to -
to - to make it easier you know for the guitar gets to stay in one place and to
have to keep it a safe and and don't put an extra stress on on the guitar neck so
this is where the guitar neck would be and I also bought this notice the
bathroom but you know the the thing you put in your bathtub and what does it all
it's made of rubber so it's it will hold the guitar in one place so they get sour
won't be sliding when I'm when I'm changing strings this is something I
really hate when I put to get on the carpet because the carpet obviously
mexic it'll move around and I just hate when I just can't keep the guitar in one
place so hopefully this thing were to make things easy now by the way this
the product is called it's called cradle tube and the company's called music
nomads and you know what it was like 2021
wait it was like 21 pounds and it's just a piece of plastic and a bit of a gel
around it but but you know what is this well designed so so we'll see actually
if it's any good by the way and I'm gonna replace the link to this product
on Amazon so if you're interested you might you might get it what else do we
need we need obviously strings we need the
tuner and we need a string winder I have two different ones just in case well
that's the third one but this one has actually a wire cutter and emergency
kind of tool if I need it my pliers and you know I can cut the wire with it as
well I mean strange basically I also have a bit of furniture polish or
whatever just to tidy up the work just to clean the guitar cuz I have also
things like I had she's my wife you know I didn't buy it but she had this first
aid kit for guitar and got some useful things like lemon oil and then some
cloths that I'm gonna use to tidy well clean the neck when I take off the
strings okay so I'm gonna change the angle of this of this of this camera so
you're gonna see my guitar you won't see my face and then I have another camera
and the camera number two would be pointing at the neck of the guitar okay
so I'm back I'm going to change strings on the guitar right now so they get eyes
sitting on this on Jay smart it was like honestly seven eight pounds on Hamson
that cradle cube neck guitar neck support those who expensive as I said
but it's it looks so right it's probably worth it and so now it's time to change
the strings so first things first I'm using the string winder to relax those
change the pitch I'm not gonna unwind it all the way
because very soon opposite Oh soon I'll be just cutting those strings in the
middle and some people say that this is wrong some people say that it's right
I'll just do it because I don't think it really affects the big guitar trust
wrote that much so here we are just cut it the only strings okay it's just to
make to save a bit of time so now at the end of this of this string winder
there's this cut out and it's a it should allow you to pull the pins of the
bridge of your guitar you see so that's that's that's the tricky part or
something that people are not confident about because they don't want to break
the guitar so look yeah you just point at dirt and the pin and try to pull it
out and it's it's not bad there's not that difficult and it's not going to
damage the guitar see one do one let's get rid of those
strengths okay tap on this bit stubborn so we might ask biased or help oh that's
not good look what happened I broke the string winder that's kind of that's life
so we can all we're not going to pretend it's something that everything is okay
it just happened so I have another one and this one managed to pull their the
pin out so what can I say maybe maybe not the best thing in the end
or maybe just used by is okay but this one it's made by the
same company or I don't know this is this seems to be some kind of no-name
thing I don't know maybe just ones better
Jim download so it's a good company now I'm gonna get rid of those strings from
this size okay one by one hope you can see it okay so you don't want to you
don't want those strings to be lying around your floor such as not to
McDuff's and just get rid of them this is what I'm planning to do okay now I
think this gift I would benefit from having some cleaning what to do which
one okay I'm just using this for this Fanny said Polly's you know it's safe
you know I I don't use well are you sometimes lemon oil but this time I'm
just gonna clean it with with this product you know you want to clean your

okay now we are ready to put new strings
I'm going to use the twelve for this guitar and they just come from kind of
box like that obviously different car I forgot which color here they are
dad dad I are your strings they're propel and and what is cool about them
is that they're color-coded which means that every string has its own color so
there's the instructions with string is which so you have string hook the first
string string E is actually this one is assisted thin string and E six is there
as there as the last string they all come in different colors one of not
strings themselves but at the end of its strength you have different color like
that see they call it to the instruction the
string E and B are swell silver and purple so what I'm going to do I am
going to first put them inside the bridge okay
like in those holes there just drop the one okay so the silver the sail that
comes first now this is pretty cool you see those this is this pin here it
has this cutout or groove whatever so the way to to insert the string inside
the bridge now is to well you obviously play the string this
inside the hole and then put the pin facing the string and ant over the pin
it's pushing their death ball at the end of the string so you kind of push it
down facing the facing the string now let's try to do it the wrong way what
doesn't work it won't wet you see so there's you can't do it the wrong way
the only way to do with this face is do to put inside the string and the end and
then face the pin will this cuts out so there's no way to do it wrong so that's
good now pull the string and and and for now look I'm gonna I'm gonna this is how
I do it so just do it my way I am I am fast inserting the strings to tape to
the right hole so just another string
well this is just my way you know keeps our heroes you might think that this is
not the best way but look I mean it's just anyway so you know justjust you can
always develop your style later okay so the next string is string G so that's
the third hole the next one is string D and it says that this is black that says
it's black so
the next one is reps and it's drink a I really like to sit the Terry's they
sound great what kind of saying the price is okay
okay so you to push it down push the pin down face and face facing the cutout
final one is their strength e6 same way hopefully down was good enough say kind
of pull it all the way up and then one doesn't want to go up while at the penis
pressing against the string pressing down the hole then they you you are to
say what about so which well I just do it you know one by one I know that there
are many ways of doing this you know some people wants to do change one
string at a time but it's it's something I don't do now probably the second
camera would would grab that's a better let me just make sure you know how I
kind of pre cut the string you know before wanting it so how much how much
strength to cut maybe maybe about two lands you know the distance which this
is between two tuning pegs like doubt you know so maybe that much right
I don't know how much it is you know whatever looks like maybe even the
length of this of this string wonder something like that okay so I'll just
I'll just cut it tomorrow here okay you can see it now what I'm going to do
I am going to fit the the strength through the hole and hopefully you can
see it now it's time to grab the winder look this is just my way
just grab the winder and Intendant so you want to make sure when you when you
turn it that the string is fed fro from from insides because this is like free
and free setup of the guitar hat which means that the key that you has will
have to do will Tanner did those fries is tuners will turn one way and and
those free tuners will have to turn the D on the opposite way so this is what
anti-clockwise okay so yeah that's does that - clockwise something you can't
o'clock wise can you see what I'm doing there
with a string I'm kind of following it with my first finger and kind of pulling
it at the same time so I want to want the string on the the bigger the
sticking arms so just just pull hold the string with the finger here and at the
same time pull it with your with your hands
okay that'll do I'm gonna push down this this pin as well that's just fine I mean
you can attach the tuner to there to the headstock and see what to notice you
after II but I'm gonna relax it for now because I want to make another lesson
about tuning the guitar from where you basically restrung your guitar and and
you just have to tune it all the way up which for complete beginners is quite a
nerve-wracking because you don't know how far you want to have I want to go
okay so time to another string let's see how much this drink has to go that's
should to use your discretion I must say that that the sixth string is probably
too long I'm not 100% happy with what I've done which means I need to practice
more so I'm going to the same thing hopefully you can hopefully you can say
it so I fed this string to the hole let the bits of the string stick out and
then I'm kind of pressing the string down and then I'm pulling at the same
time I'm pulling the string this way you know so I'm pulling towards the bridge
let's just do it once it you want to maintain that tension so this string
won't whine nicely I did the debate this junk is sticking out so I keep whining
you keep whining then obviously you have to put the string through that groove
and then under now the feet are but this actually is very obvious okay
sometimes those pins pop out but you just push them back in so as I said I'm
not going to fully I'm not going to fully chin the guitar some I'm again
giving I'm cutting about this much what six seven centimeters man
fitting its through the hole again rubbing my winder obviously today I'm
shooting this video standing out but I think that's what I'm gonna change in
the process I'm actually going to say because I can see I can feel that my
baggage is not doing well at the moment some kind of feeling discomfort I
wouldn't be able to put it to work as an as a barber okay okay stop pushing into
the pin okay I'll pick the blues now time for string number three
now I'm feeling it from inside of the from the center of the headstock and
I'll be turning in opposite direction some you see as you could see hopefully
you can say don't undecided camera I'm giving this I'm letting that did a bit
of the strength to stick out and then I'm gonna turn it in opposite direction
to put a gun cannot aside so winding quickly as you can see I'm maintaining
the tension of the string to allow the strength to want to dip it's the string
that is sticking up I'm pulling it towards the end part of guitar okay done
excellent next string string number two
how give it lip is long I'll keep it a little longer this time
so it's just the best way to change strings on the guitar I don't know I
mean it's just my way and there might be better ways

saddles well but it's just it's happened by itself you don't have to worry about

so I'm pulling this string towards the bottle it up just easier to want much
easier with the string winder probably one of the most essential tools or kiss

changing what about tuning the guitar from nowhere from from completely not

at the moment it's loose but in though it will be tighten and then it will stay

process I went through the same process I
removed strings exactly the same way I removed a cup the string in the middle I
removed a string from one side and from the other side I pulled the pins out but
now that strings already inside this keeps a last bit stubborn because those
super pins they tend to pop out so we are trying to keep them in place
so what I do because it's gonna happen to you it might happen to you doesn't
mean that the guitar is bad maybe it needs new pinch but but I can tell you
one thing as soon as it if the guitar has as soon as they see the string has
the right attention that the pain won't pop out any NL and longer I promise so
let's see
okay good it can happen to any beginner so this is
why I'm not editing that video because what's the possible help you might
happen to you know okay so let's want the string let's
tender bitch you know can you see I'm feeding the fed the string through the
hole and then winding from inside from the middle of the of the head stop and
then I try to keep all one's just one after another under the plate of the
string that stick it out let it be quick
the pin is popping out but I'll push it in no more I think at this stage I can
do that I'm pushing a Dean can you see what I'm doing I'm maintaining the
tension of the string here so that I can write properly here on this side see it
still wants to pop out but not for longer hope
now we'll stay it will stay I know it sounds dramatic it's just that the whole
end up the pain and that they had to when the string is tied it kind of it
kind of locks the pain inside so when the string is loose it doesn't look
sometimes so for that reason it's this is why it's popping out like out the pin
but as soon as we have more tension it's all gone it's all gonna be the case and
we say it look let's cut string
so doing something is actually something that this is happening to this guitar
because it happened to you seats popping out I'm gonna push it just keep pressing
this down and then it will it's quite possible that what happens is that's the
the ball of the of the strength is is here and then it needs to probably come
off the tip of the pin and that's why it looks I mean that's when it looks so
again I'm gonna push it in see this is fine instrument and those things happen
in it it's just normal it just happens maybe is a matter of
changing pinch to smaller but other thing is essential
okay let's cut it that's why I did some fitting it from inside my vest with my
second finger is done on pressing the string down some winding edge is
clockwise time to push this thing in see it doesn't pop out anymore it's stays in
place it's it's okay okay time for the string a bit too if you're not sure how
much string you should Travis cutter little more slack you know it's okay
it's this better to have more string than less okay that's good
my second finger is kind of pushing the string down actually away from the peg
thank you winder string under this bit of string
that's sticking out so string changes are good for your muscles because as you
can see I'm exercising groups of muscles that I never used normally all right
I have to push it back a bit it's fine time for the last one I set you up
fitting it from inside of the head stop
okay okay practice makes perfect so you're gonna do it a few times and it'll
be easier this no need to pay someone this to do it you can do it on your own
unless you have many guitars and you don't mind this one takes forever
because it's thinner okay so they're all sitting in the proper position here on
the bridge so the guitar is done so here we are

later I'm gonna polished at the back as well okay so so we restrung two guitars
