I said something ridiculous the other day.
I was giving a presentation
to a classroom of high school sophomores.
I was talking about a taboo subject,
about pornography.
And as the kids looked a little bit awkwardly
back at me,
I asked them this crazy question:
What if you just loved each other?
What if you could struggle with
all kinds of things?
With depression and anxiety
and doubt and pornography
and alcohol?
And what if you could confess that
in this class?
And you would just love each other?
Now, if you've ever been in high school,
you realize that, that is crazy.
In high school, we talk and we whisper.
And we compare and we judge
and we condemn.
But God has an idea
of community that is so much better.
I love what the Apostle Paul said
to the Ephesians in chapter 4.
He said,
When you stood up and
confessed that taboo
secret and sin to God,
do you know how he felt?
Compassionate.
He was right there with you.
And do you know he said?
I forgive you.
In Jesus Christ at his cross
and by his blood, I forgive you.
And so now God calls us
to be a community of people
just like our Heavenly Father.
No matter what the sin,
no matter how dark the struggle,
a marriage that's on the rocks,
someone who, who can't feel
to be generous
because they don't trust God just yet.
Someone who's hooked on a substance,
hooked on a feeling,
pursuing a destructive path that
we know is going to destroy them.
Whatever the struggle,
we could be kind,
compassionate, speak the truth.
But always speak it in love.
Remember where we started this week?
Whoever hides it,
conceals it –
they're not gonna prosper,
they won't be blessed. But,
whoever confesses their struggle,
as taboo as it might be,
they will find mercy.
We have heard so many incredible stories
from those of you who have been touched
by this ministry
and the grace that we try to share
in each of these videos.
And we're so grateful for your support.
If your life has been changed,
we would love for you to let those stories continue.
Could you consider sharing one of these videos
with a family member
who needs a bit of God's grace?
Or if you would consider giving a financial gift
to support the production of these videos,
we would be incredibly grateful.
